Boot issue 3rd Gen X1 carbon

Q: Boot issue 3rd Gen X1 carbon

I just had the service team replace the screen on my laptop and were amazing. The screen flicker was cleared up with the replacement, but I am having issues with laptop booting even though it is turned on. I ran some tests and the motherboard passed everyting. I think it might be a memory issue. What do you guys think?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, Just one year and having so many issues. I put it to sleep, wasn't turning back on so turned off via power button. But now when I press power button, keyboard backlight comes on and goes off. The power button light stays on though. No fan or any other noise.. just power button light stays on. Hole reset didn't do anything nor did AC plug. Guessing have to send in for motherboard fix? Unless any of you great folks can advise further. ( My concern is I have an encrypted 512gb pci e SSD. I don't want to send it away. Will I be able to keep it and will it get replaced if board change is required? TPM chip will change with board change, right? Many many thanks.

A:X1 Carbon 3rd gen won't boot. Motherboard issue?

Easy question first - TPM chip is part of the motherboard.  How is it encrypted?  Hardware?  Bitlocker?  ATA password?

Sounds like you need servicce. You can pull out the drive before sending it in for service or you can check the box not to re-image.

[X1 Carbon, 3443-A51 type] Hi All, I used BitLocker on Win 8.1 64b without any problems for almost 2 years now. A month ago, when I booted my computer it asked for a recovery key and since that time it was asking every boot. I also noticed that the TPM module wasn't discovered any more (so that's probably the reason). I reainstalled Windows (clean install) to Windows 10 64b and I was surprised to see that the TPM is still not present. Also checked in BIOS - in Security section - there are no TPM settings. I've also made an upgarde of BIOS - didn't help. Does this mean that my TPM somehow got broken? How can I:- Make sure that I had one (although I'm 99% sure I had one since it has never been asking for a password while booting the computer)?- Maybe there's a separate boot menu for TPM? - Can I diagnose it somehow? I'm so lucky with this computer - the guarantee expired 2 months ago....

Hi,It is my first post as a member of this community and I am having some issues with my laptop. It is a first generation X1 Carbon Touch model and the machine type is 3443-CTO. Based on the serial number, it is no longer under warranty.PROBLEM:The problem is that the computer is not booting. The computer just died on me. When I press the power button, nothing is showing on the screen. No BIOS or anything. The screen remains blank and no sound is emitted from the laptop. There are 3 lights on top and these are the power LED, the mute LED and the hard drive LED (which is weird because I removed the hard drive from the computer). Sometimes the hard drive LED stays off. The fan comes on after a couple of minutes.ATTEMPT:1. I tried resetting the battery by inserting a paperclip at the bottom and pressing the tiny button for a couple of seconds.2. I also used a minidisplay port to VGA adapter and plugging it to an external monitor. Nothing shows up on the monitor.3. I removed the battery and used the power cable directly and switched on the machine. Nothing changed, that is the power led and the mute led are on without any display.4. In a desperate attempt, I unplugged all the connections from the motherboard; USB on the left, piggyback display/usb PCB on the left, battery, BIOS backup cell, speaker connector, fan connector, and power connector. I am thinking that the motherboard is shot and was wondering if there is anything that can be done to ensure that? Also, in the even... Read more

Reaching out to find out if anyone else has experienced latency issues when connecting to a VDI on the X1 Carbon gen 5. Love my new X1 Carbon but I was suprised to experience latency issues when connecting to my work VDI using Horizon View Client. I also own a Thinkpad T510 that runs just fine on the same home network. The Carbon x1 runs the VDI perfectly at work but at home I see latency as high as 160 ms leading to freezing and dropping connection all together.Anyone have any advice or experience? x1 Carbon Gen 5i5 7200U CPU @ 2.50 GHzRunning Windows 10

Hello, first time poster, long time Lenovoite here. I was wondering if someone could advice me on the following issue. I recently bought what was claimed to be a 3rd gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon. I say claimed, because something about this PC is off, and I'm wondering if I've been scammed. The PC works perfectly, the specs match a typical 3rd gen X1 Carbon, it looks completely like a 3rd gen X1 Carbon. The issue is this: The screen resolution maxes out at 1600x900. This is weird, not only because it was advertised as having a 2560x1400 max resolution, but also because the lowest available resolution on a 3rd gen X1 Carbon is 1920x1080. I did boot up the PC and checked the specs before I purchased it, but sheepishly I did not check the screen resolution. I asked the seller about it after I came home and noticed it, and he claimed it must be a driver problem. I've installed all fresh drivers, installed all windows updates, and instlaled Lenovo service bridge, but the resolution stays the same. Did I miss something? Is there a hidden way to supercharge the display to show me almost twice my current resolution? Or have the seller swapped the display (possibly after being broken) for an inferior one? I'm lost for answers at this point, and would appreciate any feedback. Let me know if there's any info I can give you to further clarify things. Thanks!

Is your lcd panel rotated slightly?  I figured out why and it's a design flaw I am the it tech at my company and I am testing out the x1 5th gen as our next set of work comps. As I am the guy who's going to service and repair them all. (that's if I recommend it)  What I found is that the lcd panel is held in by nothing. No screw or double sided tape  The slim front bezel which is stuck on using double sided tape is the only thing stopping it popping out The lcd is aligned with 6 soft foam tabs and 2 hard tabs 2 on top, 2 left side, 2 right side and the 2 hard tabs on the bottom  So you can see why screens have alignment issues  That's not all. The cable that connects to the lcd is relatively thick for the bottom of the bezel  so it pushes the screen up from the left bottom corner.  Your screen might be rotated clockwise by a degree or so It drove me nuts. 2 lenovo tech can't fix it. Made it worse.   But I have a solution.I chopped up some high density foam and placed it on the top left or right corner of the frame to punsh the lcd corner down so it's level again   And you don't need to remove the whole front bezel. If you do you will need to reapply the double sided tape. So just heat the corner you need to peel off and insert the extra foam.   Lenovo I like the speed of the laptop but 2 screws would have easily fixed the problem. Plenty of room on the ... Read more

I have to report that issue here because apparently people in Lenovo are no-brained monkeys and apart my HW + SW issue they also have broken system for reporting issues so basically noone can report problems to these idi*ts directly - website is broken and im not able to subbmit any issue there: https://www.managedtechnicalsupportaccess.com/incident I think its hard to be not a vulgar here, because this is the most strictly speaking idiotic issue i have ever seen in my life and its more then sauce what a broken hardware plus software you are selling to your customers. I have Win7 professional; audio driver 6.0.1.822 x64. The issue is that once pc boot up after some random time period i am not able to get any sound once i plug in my headphones, all the sound is outputed by internal speakers. Once i reset machine all works fine for some limited random time period.  Are you really not ABLE TO PROVIDE WORKING DRIVERS, how can business professional work with this junk/broken machine? Are you aware of that this issue was reported multiple times by XY people over internet and you are not able to react to it? You are selling broken masterpiece of HW + SW for roughly 1.5k dollars and its not working?!? Are you aware of that?  The text above is meant to lenovo but because their systems are sophisticated and build with intense to disable customers to use them ... it ended up here.

Hello anybody, I got the brand new Carbon X1 with i7-5600U and OneLink Pro couple days ago and I have issues ever since.I have 2 main issues. 1. Laptop alone works like a charm, but when I connect the laptop to oneLink I can't get an image on my second exterior display via dvi nor via vga. The computer finds the screen and name etc, but when I want double or extend or only screen 2 projection nothing happens on the external screen. It keeps saying no input. I have tried to reinstall dock driver, change resolution, updated even bios, still nothing happens. 2. This problem is even more disturbing. If my computer is turned off or restarted while connected to OneLink dock pro, it won't start and freezes at lenovo logo. If I pust laptop to sleep while conected it boots normaly, if i turn it off not connected, then connect it and start it also boots normaly. But when it is shut down while conected it doesn't. Not even if i turn it off while connected, unplug it and turn it on. I have to do reset in this case. Guys I really need help, since those issues make my dock almost completly useless.HELP! Tilen_T

I just recently noticed that when my cursor goes into a certain area of my screen (about half and inch long and 2 inches wide) it highlights links and what not on a different part of the screen. When the links are highlighted and i click it won't do anything, but in file explorer i was able to select a folder and copy it while not even near it. This happens in browsers, word, file explorer, etc. When i'm on the desktop and i click in this certain area, the box that comes up when you click and drag on the desktop starts in a different area and then instantly moves to where the cursor actually is. So if i click and hold in this area i have a big highlighted box on my desktop but i haven't moved my mouse at all.  http://imgur.com/c7tMV0JIn this picture you can see my cursor is highlighting the twitter link when the cursor is down by the youtube link. Thanks for the help in advance!

My screen got vertical lines and dead last week. I sent the laptop to the service center to get a replacement. I got it back yesterday and found there are light bleeding out from the four cornors. And i feel the screen quality is not as good as the original one in terms of black level, viewing angle. Should I call back and let them redo it?  Another issue is that they reset or reinstalled the system (even though I removed my password). Not it looks different when the computer boots up. It was showing a white Lenovo logo in a pure black background. Not it starts with a thinkpad sign and then comes with the four ugly microsoft square logo. Is there anyway to let it go back to what it looked like before? ??

I think most users know that TrackPoint has an auto-correction mechanism to avoid permanent physical tilt. That is, when TrackPoint is pushed towards a direction with constant force for several seconds, that direction will be corrected as "zero-point". Therefore you'll observe a counter-movement when releasing TrackPoint. What I want to mention is that, back on X220, if you press middle-button when pushing TrackPoint, the above mechanism will never be triggered regardless of how long or how hard you push. This is a correct and thoughtful design, because when middle-button is pressed, such tilt should be user-generated rather than permanent physical. However, on X1 Carbon (3rd gen), the auto-correction mechanism will be triggered even when middle-button is pressed. This is NOT a correct behaviour.I guess such behaviour is coded in Synaptics driver.  If so, please kindly contact them to correct this behaviour. Thanks.

A:X1 Carbon audio jack issue

Hi Drteeter,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

Did you verify the Audio driver version is correct from Lenovo support site?

If the current Audio driver version is not matching with our support site then it is incorrect version and needs to uninstall and then download the driver from support site.

Hope this helps.

Recently my trusted X1 Carbon, which had a normal battery life after about 5 years of use, of about an hour or so.  Recently this suddenly changed to 15 mins so I thought it was time to change the battery.  After buying a "new" battery off of eBay, giving it a full charge and pulling the power cable to test it something strange happened... It first said that there was approximately 2+ hours of normal operation, so I continued to use it.  It seemed to operate normal but after about 50 mins or so when the battery was apparenly at 68%, it just jumped to 15% and went into low power mode. Does anyone know if this is a problem with the battery or is there an underlying issue? Any drivers or firmware I should be upgrading. Thanks in advanceKW

Since the arrival of my 2017 x1 carbon, the touchpad has had what appears to be some sort of driver issue. The pad works fine for a few minutes after restart, then randomly it starts to have some sort of issue where it starts freezing up each time you lift your finger and put it down again. The tap to click feature no longer functions, and the cursor jumps around randomly as well. These problems go away after a restart, but will start again after ~5-10 minutes of use. It makes the computer pretty much unusable and is extremely frustrating. The only thing I've found to help is disabling the trackpoint in the synaptics settings, which brings back the tap to click, but doesn't help with the freezing issue. This also disables the physical buttons above the touchpad, which is a big part of what I love about thinkpad hardware! The problem happens on both the lenovo supplied windows 10 pro install, as well as a fresh install of windows 10 pro, both using the drivers supplied on Lenovos website. The specs for my machine are below. If anyone else is experiencing this or has any info please respond with which x1 specs youre running and anything you may have tried. Im also curious if anyone is NOT experiencing this issue, which could indicate it might not be entirely software related. X1 Carbon 2017I5-7300U512 nVME PCIe SSDWindows 10 Pro x64... Read more

Since yesterday, my laptop does not connect to my external monitor!! I have already uninstalled/installed the graphic drivers, uninstalled latest windows updates, installed latest Lenovo latest updates, changed the cable/monitor/adapter but nothing seem to work. It is a very annoying experience. Everything was working perfectly fine last week and now suddenly my laptop does not connect to any external displays!! Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? I suspect some new updates might have caused the problem (probably new intel updates) Please let me know if you have any suggestions (I have already tried almost all solutions in other blogs/websites)...

Hey everyone! I'm probably going to come off as super petty but I just want to check to see if the noises I get from different keys is normal. The backspace and down arrow keys are quite a bit noiser when clicked than any other buttons on the keyboard. I first noticed how loud the down arrow key was versus the other arrow keys. Are these normal differences that you all are experiencing or are these issues I should try to warranty? Like I said, I'm sure I'm coming off as petty but it's a brand new laptop for me and one I spent quite a bit of money on so I want to make sure everything's okay. Thanks for the feedback!

Hello everyone Was any update pushed in the last two weeks which affected the wake up from sleep mode? I"m certain that in the last two weeks atleast once or twice I saw the shutdown screen saying installing an update. Ever since when I open the lid to resume from sleep state it takes a good 3-4 minutes for the screen/system to wake up...what gives? I haven't installed any major in my comp in the last month or so I'm not able to figure out why this is happening. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.
