MS Outlook 2002, extend.dat error

Q: MS Outlook 2002, extend.dat error

I receive an extend.dat error msg. "an extend failed to initialize. Can't open extend, dat

I have seen some solutions, one being change extend.dat to extend.old by searching through C:\documents&Settings\...

but Vista no longer has documents and settings. I went ot folder options and check show hidden folder and files, and even though vista can't display documents and settings this will show C\users\...

All of this still means I can't locate that extend.dat file.

One another note, I have found that my Outlook version continually crashes and I think its my usage of Word as email editor.

Would a fresh uninstall/install lose all the email content or do I use to do a pst file backup?

I recommend downloading and running Outlook PST Repair. It's a PST repair tool that I've used it in the past to recover emails, contacts, tasks and notes from corrupt Outlook files that are damaged or inaccessible. Supports Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/1bjhSi. (This link will automatically start a download of Outlook PST Repair that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I am running Outlook 2002 (SP-1) with 2 mail addresses on different ISPs. I loaded the 2003 update to Norton Anti-Virus last night and now I cannot access either of my e-mail accounts. I get the following error message when I try to send/receive mail:

"Task 'Mail.<account name>' reported error (0x800CC0f): 'The connection to the server was interrupted. If the problem continues contact your server administrator of ISP'

As I get the same message for both accounts - on different ISP's but accessed simultaneously - I guess it is not an ISP problem. I have tried the usual reboot, to no effect and have cast an inexpert eye over the settings, but I couldn't see anything obvious that had changed.

Any ideas please? The Norton AV link could be coincidental, but I have not consciously made any other changes to set up.

Thanks

Ovingite

A:Error Outlook 2002

Hi Alex.
The security updates added with SP3 no longer see COM add-ins, VBA and published forms as trusted.
In most cases it's due to an incompatable outlook add-in you have installed.
With the exception of adobe's acrobat, the solution is to either click "yes", disable the add-in or install an updated version. To see what COM add-in's you have, open Outlook and select Tools>Options>Other tab> Advanced Options> COM Add-ins button. Remove the checkmark next to the offending add-in.
To prevent the Acrobat PDFMaker COM Addin from loading, open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\PDFMOutlook.PDFMOutlook. Double click the "LoadBehavior" entry on the right and change the value from 3 to 2. Exit the reg. The PDF functions will still be available in Word and the other Office programs.

Hi Good Peoples,

Hoping one of you bright sparks can help please. I am running XP Pro and Outlook 2002.

If I type in say "Smith" in the "Look for" box and do a "Search" it will come up with all the emails etc that include the word "Smith." The problem is that when I try and open any of the emails, they refuse to open and I get a pop up box with an error msg that says "Cant open item - try again."

That error message is about an useful as air brakes on a turtle.

I tried doing a "detect and repair" and whilst it fixed it, the fix lasted about 20 minutes.

Any ideas please?

Apparently my Outlook has become corrupted. If I attempt to send an e-Mail with Word (or RTF or plain text or HTML), I receive a pop-up which states - unable to locate this file. Unfortunately, it often appears behind something and you have to shut down Outlook from Control-Alt-Del to get past it.

Is there a way to repair as I have many tools installed to use with Outlook and don't want to loose my config files as well. I have tried a repair to no avail.

Have a user that has a prob with Outlook 2002. This was a new computer so all of the people she had in her Personal Address Book in Outlook 97 (or 2000, can't remember) were imported into Contacts in Outlook 2002. ONLY those contacts are causing her problems - new ones added in Outlook 2002 are fine. The problem is that she will receive the error: 'Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine.' If she click OK, she gets a question about debugging. If she no to debugging, the contact will eventually open. If she said yes, she receives a series of invalid page faults (vs7jit [???]), blah blah (sorry, not there and don't have the rest of the messages) but the contact will open if she closes all of the boxes that have appeared.

Now, accoding to Microsoft:
CAUSE
There is a reference to an ActiveX control in the item's form, and you do not have the appropriate library files for that control registered and installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior use either of these two methods.

Method 1
Click OK to the error message. The item will open without displaying the problem control.
Method 2
Contact the author of the form to determine how to install and register the control on your computer. This method may involve installing an additional program, which provides the control. Click to expand...

That really doesn't help since the only program in question here is Outlook.

Any ideas?

Hello.

I recently had some problems with my pc getting infected with system check - which was succesfully removed with assistance from this site and the fabulous Gringo.

However, when starting Outlook, it calls for disc to be inserted. I can cancel the process, but a new window pops up with Error 1706. I can cancel this each time, but if I have emails in my outbox and forget them, they are always returned as undeliverable. It's a hassle basically. I guess I can live with it but if there is a fix or advice, I'd be glad to hear about it.

Tks for any advice/assistance

I am continually getting the following problem in Outlook 2002:

Every few minutes or so, a screen pops up telling me to "Enter Network Password"

When I click OK or close on the "Enter Network Password" box, the following error message appears: 'Task 'pop.alltel.net - Sending and Receiving' reported error

I have three e-mail accouonts, two through the same ISP. The ISP tech says my connections are ok at their end and that this is a microsoft problem, she added that she has the same problelm periodically but she doesn't have an answer for it, I could not find a solution in the microsoft help files.

I have closed out and redone my e-mail accounts configuration several times. Always in testing the setting, everything works OK. I still can send and receive email. But that pesky popup "Enter Network Password" keeps cropping up and I have to stop everything to clear it and the followup error message.

How can I correct this?

I am using XP Home S2 on a four year old Dell Dimension 8300

I have upgraded a PC from Windows 98 to Windows XP Pro. Prior to the upgrade, Office XP was installed. I also installed AVG freeware anti-virus software which created a plugin for Outlook 2002 to handle the scanning of incoming and outgoing mail.

When I ran a software/hardware compatability check prior to upgrading to XP, it advised that AVG would not work with XP. So I uninstalled the software. I then upgraded to XP which went pretty well except now I get an error when launching Outlook. It says that it cannot find the AVG plugin called by the software. It seems the AVG uninstall did not do the full job. I can still use Outlook, but this error message is just annoying.

I tried re-installing AVG, but it did not fix the problem as it did not reload the plugins into Oultook. I have since uninstalled the software again (and installed Norton Systemworks).

Can anyone advise how I can clear the reference to the AVG plugin when starting Outlook ? Does Outlook have an .INI file which specifies to load the plugin ? By the way, I have tried using Outlook Detect and Repair, and Symantec CleanSweep to try and get rid of the plugin reference, but neither measure was successful.

A:Error when opening Outlook 2002

Try running the detect and repair under Help in Outlook.

It just sunk in you tried the detect and repair. Then I would uninstall Outlook, reboot and then try a reinstall.

IF that doesn't work try deleting out AVG out of the registry, then run the detect and repair.

Several months ago my HD crashed and I moved my backup Outlook files to my sons PC. He had installed a free Grisoft AVG7 anti-virus program on there. When I was able to get a new HD, I removed the Outlook files (pst) and put them on the new HD. Now every time I go to start Outlook I receive this error message:

The add-in "C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG&\avgxch32.dll" could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the Help Menu. Unable to load "C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG&\avgxch32.dll". You may be out of memory, out of system resources, or missing a .dll file.

I have tried using the Detect and Repair program but it does not find the add-in. I have also used Norton's Win Doctor to search the HD for any related errors in my registry. It has not found anything related to this problem. Since I never had that program installed on my HD or used it with my Outlook file until it was on his PC, I do not know how to remove it. If there is anyone that can help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you are comfortable editing the registry, this usually works. Back up your registry first!
1. START | RUN | regedt
2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider
3. Highlight above key and click SECURITY | PERMISSIONS | ADVANCED
4. In the Access Control Settings for Protected Storage System Provider window, under the Permissions tab, click to select the Reset Permissions for all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions check box, and then click OK .
5. Click OK to close all windows and get back to the Registry Editor
6. Double click the Protected Storage System Provider folder, and delete the subkey folder, usually starts with an "S" and after that many numbers.
7. Exit and reboot
8. Then click START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL | MAIL ACCOUNTS| View or change existing e-mail accounts | NEXT | Mark your personal default EMail Account and press CHANGE
9. On this Tab, type your password, click to select Remember Password | APPLY | OK
10. Start Outlook and try to send/receive

I used to have 2 email accounts inside my outlook2002 and it works fine.

Yesterday I added in 4 more email accounts and started to have this error : 0x800CCC0F

So I do some testing myself and here are the result:

If I click send/receive (which is all 6 accounts) I will get the error.

If I remove 2 accounts and only have 4 email accounts, I will not error any error with the send/receive all function, the problem seems to come as long as I have 5 email accounts and above.

If I click one by one account under send/receive, I will not get any error with all 6 email accounts. (which means the account setting is correct).

Please advice.

Thanks.

A:Outlook 2002 Send And Receive Error

I tried changing server timeouts to a longer interval (max to 10 mins).

I also tried changing MTU to 1500.

All above doesn't work.....

The funny thing is, if I setup all 6 accounts with a machine that has outlook 2003... it is working fine...no error.

There is something I found out after running inbetween 2 machines....

I realised that outlook 2002 has 6 tasks running when I click send/receive

example... mamister - sending and receiving in a task

But outlook 2003 has 12 tasks running when I click send/receive

example... mamister - sending in a task
- receiving in a task

Could this be the reason outlook 2003 can run without error?

Just tried upgrading from Outlook 98 to Outlook 2002, but now have a few problems. After Outlook opens, we get a message that it "cannot start reminder service. Unable to show reminders." Also, the inbox displays previous email messages, but we cannot open them. It says "can't open this item. The operation failed." Same with deleted items, etc. If I try adding an appointment to the calendar, we get "this item could not be saved to this folder. The folder has been deleted or moved or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in the default folder for the item?"

This installation was done on a Windows 2000 workstation. We use Exchange Service on our server. I have checked the Microsoft knowledge base, but haven't been able to locate any info. regarding these errors.

This was followed by two other error screens and than OutLook would restart. (I have attached some screen shots) I would loss any mail that I was working on at the time.

I did find on the MS support knowledge base something similar that had me can the properties associated with the Mipmapi.dll. This did not help. Unfortunately.... 1) I only have the 2002 outlook on my disks. So now I cannot use my PST file as it is not compatible. What method should I be using to revert my 2003 PST file to be able to be used by 2002 Outlook without the presence of Outlook 2003?

Restarted, but still no change. It still had "inherited" some settings like POP3 mailbox settings etc. The "Test Account Settings" all worked and was able to sent to my ISP mail account.

Mumble "grunt"!...went "Startup".."Settings".."Control Panel".. "Mail".."Show Profiles" and removed the current profile. When I started Outlook 2002 again it asked for a new profile and away she went.

sounds like your pst file is corrupt.

Follow the steps below (take your time) to help re-create your pst file.

The instructions can be found here also (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319128)

Re-create Your Personal Folder File
1. Quit Outlook, and then start Windows Explorer.
2. Make a backup copy of your personal folder file (Outlook.pst).

Outlook.pst is usually located in the following folder:
Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Window 2000, and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0:
drive:\Documents and Settings\UserID\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition (SE) and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me):
drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\LocaleID
Drive is the drive letter of your boot drive, UserID is your user I.D., and LocaleID is the locale identifier (LCID) for your installation of Microsoft Office. For example, the LCID for English (United States) is 1033.
3. Rename Outlook.pst as "OLD.pst". To do so, follow these steps: a. Click Outlook.pst.
b. On the File menu, click Rename.
c. Type OLD.pst, and then press ENTER.

4. Use the Inbox Repair Tool to repair the OLD.pst personal folder file.

For additional information about the Inbox Repair Tool, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Am running Win XP Pro along with Office XP SP2. Just went to the Office XP update site and installed the Excel and Word 2002 Update Oct.16 2002, and the Outlook 2002 Update Jan 22 2002.

Word and Excel still work fine, but Outlook will only start in safe mode, hanging at the splash screen if started normally. I tried the trick of renaming the *.dat files noted in some of the bulletin boards, but tis did not help.

I then un-installed Office XP and reinstalled it to SP2 level without the three patches noted above. Outlook still refuses to start normally.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that there is a "patch to patch the patch" for this problem, but can't seem to find the article again. Have also unsuccessfully searched the web and am now truly stuck!

Since Office seems to have reinstalled itself with all it's old defaults, I assume that the un-install programme does not remove registry entries? Any idea if there is a manual un-install instruction set anywhere - I can't find it at Microsoft.....!

XP Sp1, Office XP, Outlook 2002 Sp3, up to date.

This issue is in an additional mailbox the user (2 in this case) opens when Outlook starts up.
When trying to open an email in the folder, there's a good chance they get "Can't open this item. You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation." Here's the kicker, if they keep trying, or try others, eventually they can open it. Once they are able to open the email once, they can open it over and over. Then they can go back and open some of the previously un-openable emails.
I've seen a reference in the KB articles, and it mentions a post Sp3 hotfix, but all updates have been applied. There are probably about 20 people that access this box, and so far only 2 have said anything. Maybe the others are more patient.
Another thing that stumps me is that one user says it only happens in the morning, before anyone else comes in. In the afternoon, everything's hunky-dorey.
I set up this users mail on a spare box, and cannot recreate the problem. I guess it's something on the local PC, but figured I'd ask. The mailbox currently has about 47mb in it, with a 60mb limit, and a 300mb cutoff.
My next course of action is to recreate the user's profile on his box, but he won't be available until Monday, plus I want to do it in the morning.
Anyone else have an idea?

I recently re-installed my entire computer, incl. MS Office 2002.
When restoring the .pst files, something went wrong. Maybe I needed to re-install more than just .pst files, maybe it screwed up because I renamed the back-up files?

Either way, the problem is that the Contact folder is not displayed in the Outlook Address Book, and I cannot manage to make it so.
I tried the following:
- Right-clicking the Contacts folder, Properties, Outlook Address Book tab. The checkbox "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book" is greyed out, so I cannot check it.
- Tools, E-mail accounts, View or change existing directories or address books. Outlook Address Book - MAPI is listed (as only one). When pressing Change..., I get an error message: "This E-mail account cannot be configured. Please run Outlook and choose this profile before attempting to make changes to it." There is only one profile (I had 2 before re-installation, but no longer needed the second).
If I try to Add... an Additional Outlook Address Book, or a Personal Address Book, I get the error message "The account you have added is not fully configured. It might not work properly until re-configured correctly."

Nice, but how to re-configure it correctly??? I prefer not having to re-install the program...

I tried to Remove the listed Outlook Address Book, but then could still not Add... one (same error message), so the originally listed one re-appeared.

What can I do?

Did anyone respond to this 2.5 year old problem with a solution? I have exactly the same problem now and hope there is a solution out there. I'm puzzled and cannot find the solution on the net. Thanks.

I have tried to import my .WAB file from Microsoft Office Outlook 2002 to Outlook Express. I used File, Import from within Outlook Express. I select the .wab file to import, and I get a message in about 1/2 a second saying it has been done but no addresses are imported.
Do you have to have both programs open? Is there another way to import addresses into OE?

I happened to check my processes in the task manager and I find 10 incidents of outlook.exe running although I have closed out my outlook program (which is my primary email, NOT Outlook Express). All total they are using about 125,000K of memory. ( I have 1 gig in RAM)

Anyone know why this is?

TIA for any answers.

Terry

A:10 outlook.exe processes, outlook 2002 on XP home edition with SP1.

Not sure how it got that way without more information but what happens if you simply end those processes.

Then you can open it up again and see if it starts replicating itself. There may be more going on behind the scenes that you are not aware of yet. This might be a good initial test to try.

I'm trying to read the e-mails from my old Windows 98 computer on my current Windows XP computer but I haven't been able to figure out how to successfully do this. The e-mail client on the Windows 98 machine was Outlook Express 6 and the one on my current XP computer is Outlook 2002.

I followed the instructions listed on the Microsoft support site (Article ID: 270670) for backing up the data from Outlook Express which left me with a folder of .dbx files (Inbox.dbx, Drafts.dbx etc) which I then burned onto a CD and transferred over to my XP computer. My problem is that now that I've done that I'm not sure how to get Outlook 2002 to import that folder of .dbx files or recognize it. I googled it but didn't find any helpful results other than links to expensive conversion programs. So could anyone here offer any help on the matter? Thanks in advance.

A:How do I import messages from Outlook Express 6 into Outlook 2002?

Update: I realized that Outlook can't open the .dbx files and that Outlook Express has to export them to Outlook. However, when I tried this it only exported the messages in my "Sent" folder and none of the messages in any of the other folders, including Inbox.dbx which is about 500MB in size so I know the messages are in there. Any advice on what to do next?

I have just installed office 2013 and I see in outlook 2013 the todo list on the right sode of the screen will only show the next 7 days, is there anyway I can extend this to 14 days please

A:Outlook 2013 can i extend the 7 days todo list

Apparently when Outlook 2013 first came out you could only see one day ahead in the to do list. This generated a huge backlash so MS eventually increased it to 7 days & as far as I know that's it.
You may be able to find some 3rd party software that will increase it but that always has a risk of causing other problems.

Source:
Windows XP Pro SP2
Outlook 2002 SP3

Destination
Vista, Home Premium, 32 bit
Office Standard 2007, which was installed as an upgrade.
I did not install Office 2002. During Office 2007 installation, I put the Office 2002 CD into the other optical drive. Office 2002 was NOT installed.

I made the mistake of configuring the email account on the Outlook 2007 account while the computer was connected to the internet. Now, I have many new messages on the Vista computer, which I would like to retain. These messages have been removed from the server.

1. How do I transfer the messages & calendar from the source to the destination?

2. How do I merge the messages in the Outlook 2007 inbox with the messages [ to include those in the inbox of Outlook 2002?

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,
RF123

A:Solved: Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2007

In outlook 2007, use File - Impor and Export - Import from another program or file - Personal Folder file (.pst).

Then you point it at a copy of the PST from your old 2002 version of Outlook, copy it over on a CD or DVD or via a network if connected (it will be a large file usually).

You can tell it to not create duplicates etc as you want.

I seem to recall that there is a major difference in how MS Outlook 2003 stores email versus earlier versions, is that true? And that the databases are not interchangeable? So if I install OL 2003 and want to revert back to 2002, will I be able to convert the data back?

A:Outlook 2003 vs Outlook 2002

I tried that, but was happy to have my Outlook 2002 backup, because I did not succeed. Still, I am not THAT experienced, so maybe it's possible...
Then again, it would be typically MicroSoft to have big brother refuse to recognise little brother.

I'm having a problem switching from Outlook Express version 6.00.2900.2180 to Outlook 2002. I have installed Outlook 2002 but when I try to open it I get the following error message:

"Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe from the IE5 folder located on your CD or through the Windows Update website."

I have tried doing this but when I try it I get an error message telling me that my computer already has a more recent version so the download is not possible. I am using Windows XP and I have the most recent windows updates.

Can anyone please help with this problem?

My original problem with Outlook 2002 doesn't seem to be going away so I think I will just install Outlook 2003. Is there a way to transfer all of the emails, contacts and calendar items from Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2003 on the same machine? Thanx

A:Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2003

I do not have an answer to your question, just wondering if Outlook 2003 is the lastest version of that. Seems old to be the latest version, but since I have never used it, I really do not know.

If it is not, you might want to consider going to the most recent version instead.

Hi guys,

I've got a windows partition set-up like below:

39MB (healthy EISA config) -> 14.65 GB Recovery (D) -> 43 GB (C) -> 1.95GB (no name) ->91.39GB unallocated

The partitions are set-up in that order. When I click on the 1.95 to extend it / add it to the 91.39GB, I get an error: the operation failed to complete because the disk management console view is not up to date. I've attempted to update it and restart the computer to no avail. Any ideas how I can get my 43GB combined with the 1.95GB and 91.39GB partitions located to the right of it?

A:Extend my Partition, getting error

If you fill out your system specs, then somebody might be able to help you.

Regards....Mike Connor
