Access -Checkbox to make an Option Group visible (need no option checked)

Q: Access -Checkbox to make an Option Group visible (need no option checked)

I have a checkbox that when checked it makes an Option Group visible. When the Option Group opens (I've tried both check boxes and Option Buttons) but they both have NO checked off when the Option Group opens. I have tried playing with the default for the Option Group Frame. I have tried setting it up to reset to null when the Option Group opens.

From everything that i am reading there is only a yes or no option, there is no null option. How do I make neither button or checkmark checked? I want both boxes or circles left blank until chosen.

Preferred Solution: Access -Checkbox to make an Option Group visible (need no option checked)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, All!

I have an Access 95 database with numerous option groups to capture ratings (using 1 to 5) on various customer-service questions. My problem is getting the reporting function to tell me how many 1s, how many 2s, etc., for each of the approximately 20 questions. So far I can only get it to return which number was marked, but not a total of each rating.

I tried doing a query with the totals and then making another query based on
that but using the Count Total function, but that didn't work either. I'm not
sure how to get these totals of each rating for each of the option groups. Is
it even possible with an option group to set up such reporting? Would the
option groups need to be changed to individual checkboxes (ugh!)?

Please note that while I am comfortable with Access' design interface, I am
not a programmer, so your answers may need to be "dumbed down" for me.

Many thanks for your help!!!

I have a little database Iím trying to set up. Hereís the scenario: We want to keep track of people who call our office anonymously and ask for services we donít provide. The only things I want to track is gender of caller, county of residence, date of call, where that caller was referred and the reason for the referral. I want to make this as easy as possible for the receptionists so they will accurately track these calls.

I currently have 4 tables: the Main Table contains fields for date, gender of caller (lookup), county of origin (lookup), where referred (lookup) and reason. (I have an additional table for gender so I can create a combo box on my form as a lookup. Same goes for county and referral source. I want control over what is entered specifically and in what format.)

On my form I have created an option group for the referral sources. Itís possible one caller could be referred to one or several sources. Iíd like the receptionist to simply check a box for each referral source but with the Option Group I can only select one of the group, not several. How can I allow the selection of more than one value if necessary?

Thanks in advance. Maybe Iím trying to make this harder than it should be.

A:Access 2000 - Option Group on Form

Yes, I know this scenario. It's a fairly common one, actually. You can't do it with an option group, though. If you can use code, you can do it with a multi-select list box (I think there's an example or two in the Access Developer's Handbook). But it's not the easiest code writing out there; I can give you some stuff, but if you're not familiar with VBA, I'm not sure how much sense it will make.

Which leads to the next possibility, which is clunky, but works: You use a datasheet subform, which contains a combo box from which the user can pick the various referral source(s). Each time a source is selected, the user must add a new record, but that's fairly easy to see and understand. And you can do it without code, or almost--just something on the Before Update property which sets the Caller_ID field to match the parent form.

Let us know what you think.

I searched the forum, but did not quite find what I need.

I created a database in Access 2007 that had an "Active" checkbox. I thought I knew what it meant. As it turns out, I was wrong. Now, I found that there are three categories to that one checkbox (Active, Retention, and Inactive). I created one more checkbox for Retention, and I thought my problem was fixed. However, upon further reflection, I realized that, as it is currently set up, both Retention and Active can be selected, and that will not work. So, my thought was to use an option group.

Problem: Database is already in use by staff, and I'm not sure how best to proceed without over-complicating things. Also, I know little to nothing about option groups. I have a feeling that I may have some trouble with the -1 option value, but I don't know what it means. Does anybody have some helpful hints or ideas?

A:How to alter 2 Checkboxes to an Option Group in Access

I have a form in Access '03 which contains an option group with 3 options (radio buttons). I would like the option selected to determine whether it is possible or not to enter data in 2 text boxes, eg the selection will control which particular box is locked.

There are 3 options:

Option 1
Option 2
Option 3
There are the following outcomes based on selection:

Option 1 locks TextBoxAVG but keeps TextBoxHist unlocked
Option 2 Locks TextBoxHist but keeps TextBoxAvg unlocked
Option 3 Locks TextBoxHist but keeps TextBoxAvg unlocked
I realise that options 2 and 3 are the same - this is not a typo and is unavoidable in this case as I really need the 3 options.

I have seen how a check box can be used in similar circumstances but it isn't suitable when there are 3 options as in this case, see http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/30536106/check-box-to-control-edit.aspx

Any ideas or even solutions would be appreciated big time!

I have never been able to solve this, and it is really annoying. Anytime I open a folder with many file types, I'd like it to be grouped by "Type." However, "Type" is never displayed as an option in explorer, and I then have to select the "More" scroll down and choose "Type" then go through the "group by" process again. It's a lot of extra clicks, especially when I have to do this with lots of folders. How do I get "Type" to display in the "Group by" right click in explorer? Or better yet, how can I get folders to automatically display files grouped by type?

Lately I haven't been able to log onto certain websites when the 'Remember Me' option is enabled. Whenever I click it and then attempt to log it, it just brings me back to the log in page, and I was not logged in (or sometimes, in Gmail's case, it tells me that cookies are not enabled - which they are.) However, if I don't click it, it logs me in fine.

I've tried using the Microsoft site, and the only thing that worked was "adjusting" the date on my calendar - which was already correct - but it only worked for about fifteen minutes. I've cleared my cache many times. I've googling for hours on end, as well, but I cannot find anything to help.

I'm using IE6, Windows XP, and Panda Anti-Virus + Firewall. I do not have the disc for Windows XP. If it can be avoided, I do not want to upgrade to IE7 because I don't like it - the same goes for Firefox.

Does anyone know what could be causing this and how I can fix it? Thank you very much.

When I put my computer into standby mode and then shake the mouse, my computer resumes from standby. I checked off the option to not allow the mouse to wake the computer but it doesn't work.

I tried to see what was causing this and I tried the elevated command tip posted in another forum. powercfg -lastwake

What showed was this:

This is telling me that a usb root hub is causing the problem, but the only thing connected to my computer via usb is my monitor. My monitor has two additional usb ports, one of which I use to connect a unifying receiver for my mouse and keyboard. I have a logitech m700 keyboard and an m705 mouse.

Is there any way to solve this problem? I did look over the checklist that was posted, power options and sleep mode problem, but that did not work.

I have installed adwcleaner to get rid of ad-ware on my pc . It then tells me that I have look up an option in the tools which will stop the ad-ware coming back again (which it has every time its cleaned it) however the only option available is quarrentine which as far as I can tell is not the right thing I need. Do you know how/where to find it?

A:AdwCleaner Anti PUP option not visible in tools.

>> It then tells me that I have look up an option in the tools which will stop the ad-ware coming back again <<
You need to Empty the quarantine area to  fully remove the items.
Open AdwCleaner and hit the Uninstall button. This will remove the program And all items in quarantine.
I have found that a "fresh copy" should be used every 2 or 3 runs, maximum.
AdwCleaner[S0].txt should not be allowed above [S3] or it is full of Adware.
At the moment you are only saving quarantined items so they can be reinstalled if required.
Note the final lines in my reply on How to use AdwCleaner .
• Items that are deleted are moved to the Quarantine Folder: C:\AdwCleaner\Quarantine
• To restore an item that has been deleted (if necessary):
• Go to Tools > Quarantine Manager > check what you want restored > now click on Restore.
• To remove all items Re-open AdwCleaner and hit Uninstall to remove quarantined Adware.

I have 3 computers connected in the home network, PC1, PC2 and a Laptop = PC3. In addition, I have a NAS that is used for Backups, various files and videos.
All three PCs run Ver. 1803 build 17134.48
It is PC1 there are problems with. It is the one I used for administration.
I need, from PC1, to transfer and put files into place on PC2, PC3 and NAS - as well as download and move files in those locations.
This was unproblematic before the Windows update.
On all 3, network and sharing center are turned on
PC2 and PC3 can still retrieve and add files to the NAS
On PC2 and PC3 are assigned "Full Control" to ALL on multiple shared discs.
On PC1, a disk is shared with permission Read to ALL.
On PC2 and PC3, you receive the message: "Unable to access ..." when clicking on the shared disk drive, but folders that are subsequently shared with a sharen name are accessed. It seems inconvenient that you can not override the entire drive.
It's bitter that I can not create a folder under the root from another PC, and that all folders should be shared separately (pretty much unnecessary administration).
On all PCs, Password-protected sharing is disabled.
On both PC2 and PC3, NAS and all the PCs on display are visible in the left side of Explorer. But not on PC1.
PC1 can not even see itself, neither right nor left Explorer panel?
Hope I can get a qualified bid on how to access PC1 on my PC and NAS

So I found a thread by "Brink" that suggests removing the option to upgrade your OS (therefore remove the pesky win10 prompts) from the group policy editor. This is only available on win 7 pro. I work with many small networks literally over 1500 individual machines sub divided into hundreds of networks. I want to keep all these machines on win7 pro. So I'm wondering since this group policy editor change is so simple and effective can I script a .bat file deploy it out to all my machines and have the users run it once to make the change then its done. Otherwise I'm going to have to remote into each machine and do it manually or send out a word based doc. with screen shots on how to do it to my users. Much appreciate any help in advance.. Gordo

A:Remove win10 upgrade option through group policy with .bat script

Hi Gordo, I don't know if there is any way of creating a batch file to change Group policies, somebody may be able to correct me on that though.
However, you could create a batch file using the below entries to remove all Windows 10 related updates and use that on each system. Then keep those updates hidden perhaps?
Here are the updates I would consider Windows 10 related, but you may want to google each one and see which ones you think are worth removing/keeping? The Windows update client updates seem to be updated every month though, so you may need to keep an eye on that each month.

Hello again,

What I have is a option group on a form. Now, I want to have it to where each individual option pulls from a table, so that the option is checked if the value in the table is true.

I'm not sure how to set this up however. I am assuming that I would need to have a table field set up for each individual option in the option group. Correct?

Now, what type of fields should these be, so that I can link the option group items to those individual fields? And how would I set it up to where on the form, it would show each ones status, as it is in the table.

A:Solved: Group Option Buttons, linking them to table data

Hey, I figured out how to do it. I had to change the ActiveStatus into a number, and set up my checkboxes in the radio group's numbers to correspond.

Greetings all,

I have been doing alot of research on this forum the last couple of months and it has come in very handy as i get used to Windows 8 - which i might add, it's beginning to 'grow' on me.

My first installation on my 2009 Compaq Presario Duo-Core rig went beautifully - no problems whatsoever.

So, i thought, what the heck, let's see what happens when i run the Upgrade Assistant on my 2005 Dell Latitude D510. Assistant didn't seem to give any impression that my system was incompatible with Win8, so i went ahead and bought another copy to install.

Problem is, it went through the download, then the verification of the download and gave me an 'access denied' error. I tried it again with the same result. Next i tried the link from the invoice that said if you need to download Windows 8, click here. So i did. Long story short, it downloaded, verified OK then left me two options: Install Now or Install Later from Desktop. Hmmm...where's the option to created the DVD??? This was last night, it was late so i left it to today to install. Everything went well and my laptop, which was running WinXP Pro is now running Win8.

But...i'm still left in the dark as to how to get the .iso file to create a disk should i ever need it again. I need you gent/ladies to help me find it either on my hard drive somewhere (not in download file) The installer did not ask me for my key and there was a Windows.old file which i tried to delete, most of which i was successful but th... Hi, guys,

My mother called me and said that she's trying to print coupons from this website:

But that she gets a pop-up message saying that her printer is not configured correctly. So, I go to the website and try to print a coupon and I see that on the next page displayed, it tells me that I have to install a software that will allow the coupon website to imprint a barcode onto the coupon at the time of printing to allow it to be scanned at the store.

So, I download and install that. Then I choose my coupons and tell it to print the coupons again. It does so with no further problems. My mother installs that on hers, too, and gets the "install successful" notice.

HOWEVER, on my mother's printer (Brother MFC 420cn) they won't print, and on the page she gets displayed, it says that her printer settings are set to "keep printed documents" and that she must uncheck that option. So, I tell her how to go into the printer properties, which she does, in the advanced tab where that option is and she says, yes, it IS checked. So I tell her to uncheck it, click "apply" and then "okay." She does so. She goes back to try to print the coupons, and it gives her the same error message as before.....that she has to uncheck the "keep printed documents." Hello everyone. I have been having an ongoing problem with my computer and I have asked for advice many times, and haven't really gotten any answers. Basically the problem is simple. When I click on a link in firefox, firefox opens it in a new window. This isn't right, it should open in the same tab. This also happens just by pressing the back button. This problem also effects the desktop. When I will select a single program, a cluster of programs around it get selected as well. Today this problem happened again, but I noticed something different about it. When I went to restart my computer (it generally works normally after that) I saw that my usual options of "Standby" "Turn Off" and "Restart" were replaced with "Hibernate" "Turn Off" and "Restart." I'm not sure what it means or if the problem is serious, but it is quite frustrating so if anyone can help shed some light on the issue, please do!

Oh and I was told before that my problem could be that my control key is stuck, but I have cleaned the key and it has been unstuck.

Hello ragavendrang.

I would suggest that after you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media you use Step One of this tutorial at the link below to do a wipe (secure erase) to the entire Hard Disk Drive, running this then using the outline in Step Two #2 to create and format a single 100GB partition using diskpart will get you a clean all and a chkdsk /r for the best possible space to install Windows to.

After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "clean all" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old Windows drivers, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.

Ps. Don't mention the shift key as I hate all keyboards!

A:I want to make a send to option that will MOVE to specified library

This may be of use:

Context Menu - Add Copy To Folder and Move To Folder

Just to be clear, the Libraries are basically a 'shortcut' to the specified folder. I.E., My Pictures, so you will never have a file only in the Pictures Library, it will also be (by necessity) in the My Pictures folder.

I have just installed a new Dell XPS8900, and reinstalled my Canon MX922. Everything works well except when I want to print, the fax function shows first instead of printer. I just have to remember each time to change to printer. It's a frustrating clitch in my work flow. Can't find how to make the printer function the default choice when I want to print. Any suggestions, please?

Hello everyone,

I created a login password for my XP computer. There are no other accounts on the computer. When creating the password I selected the option to "make files private".

1. If something were to happen to the OS or hard drive and I needed to used a bootable CD/DVD to get the files off the hard drive, would the fact that I selected the make files private option prevent me from doing this ?

2. If I login and back up the files to a disk or external hard drive, would I have access to them on another computer and would I be able to modify them if needed ?

3. How can I change the "make files private" option back to un-private ? I tried going to "my computer" then right click on the user account documents folder, select properties, then "sharing" but I cannot un-check the "make files private" box because it is greyed out. If I remove the login password, will this remvove the "make files private option as well ? I can then just re-select the password and not choose the option to make the files private again.

If there are not other accounts on the computer are there any advantages to making the files private ? Does this make the computer more secure if somone tried to bypass the OS and obtain files with a bootable disk ? What are the pros and cons of making the files private ?

A:XP Login password & make files private option

Making files "private" changes the NTFS permissions on the files. They are still easily accessible from any Linux-based boot CD and from a Windows one once the permissions are changed.

The option is used primarily to prevent other accounts on the same machine from accessing the files. With a single account, the result is null, either way.

I know of no way to change it back short of changing the permissions. That could be risky if done incorrectly (and any files in use could be excluded, leading to more complications), so since there is really no effect, I'd leave it alone, if I were you.

Over the past couple weeks every time I fire up Firefox it opens alongside its error console. Browsing isn't hampered by all of the errors that it is reporting, but it is getting annoying to have to close it every time I open my browser.

Try as I might I can't find a way to disable it from popping up when Firefox opens. Is there a way to make that happen?

A:Solved: Firefox error console won't go away. Is there an option to make it go away?

I recently bought and Y5070 notebook with and SSHD, but it doesnt seem to be enabled, and i cant make it work. I got the Intel Rapid program installed, but there's no option to enable SSHD to improve system performance. I read that you need to set the SATA controller settings to RAID in the BIOS, but there's no such option for that either.Any ideas?

I've got used to reading English on my computer, to the point where I prefer it over my native language in most situations. So it's annoying how many websites and programs detect my country and set language accordingly. While with programs it's not really that much of a concern, considering I just need to pay some attention during installation, the websites are more annoying.

So my question is rather simple, solution might not be. Is it possible to force me to be identified as an English computer?

Exactly how is this detected by the websites in general?

My OS language is English, as is my browser language on both IE and Opera, are many of these sites using IP to detect languages? I suppose in that case it would be hard to fix without using proxies which doesn't really sound worthwhile...

Just wondering in case there is some simple solution I have yet to discover, possibly browser setting? Or different browser all together.

Thanks in advance.

A:Can I make default langauge option for sites not my native language?

Not sure whether this would help, but if you navigate to Internet Explorer>Internet Options>General Tab>Appearance Section>Languages, you can add a website language from there.

A:Robocopy's /MT option disables /NP option

Hi Is_mstn, Yes, we can repro this issue on my side. And we have added it into our bug database. Thank you for reporting it. I think it should be fixed soon. :)Thanks again.

On December 13, 2009 a user reported an issue where Robocopy when using /MT, disabled the /NP option.

The original question:

On December 21, 2009 this was confirmed to be a bug and it was added to the "bug database", and a promise was made to fix this soon.

Today, 2646 days later, I can still reproduce this issue.
When you require me to pay licenses for for your products, would it be okay i do this soon?

When could we expect this issue to be solved?

I have a HP Pavilion notebook. A bit older I think. It had built in windows Vista Home Premium. Somehow my hard disk crashed and I bought a new one. I installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and updated to service pack 1. I made a system image using windows default recovery console. Everything was fine. But today I needed to restore my computer to a previous restore point. Every time I press F8 to get to the advanced boot option I see everything is okay except the "repair your computer" option. Somehow the "repair your computer" option disappeared. I tried ctrl+F11 button and the F11 button too. F11 button worked for my previous vista home premium but for Win-7 it's the F8 key. Can anyone help me with this please? How may I get the "repair your computer" option back? Is there any way to edit advanced to boot option to get that option back? I would be needing it in case of system image recovery. Please I don't want to reinstall the O/S once again. Please somebody help me.

A:Advanced boot option doesn't show the option "repair your computer"!

On my clean OS install, the "repair your computer" option also does not appear in the F8 Advanced Boot Options list.
The option does appear on my ACER PC.

You can access this option by booting from a System Repair CD/DVD. A system repair CD is a must have.

Hi, I am trying to reduce the noise of my Yoga C930 laptop especially when it is plugged in to an AC adapter. Most of the time the fans get turned on even at CPU load 1-5% at Task Manager. I went to "power source and sleep" but I cannot find System Cooling Policy option. Could you please let me know where it is? I read that one could also change the cooling method setting in the BIOS. I cannot find it. Where is it? Thanks

Hi, new to this forum.
Windows live mail in windows 7 home preminum 64 bit has left the option of creating a new contact group from its drop down list. Here is what I have done to correct problem. Going to c:\users\uername\contacts and than right clicking on blank white space and selecting customize folder\customize and clicking drop down arrow. On the drop down list there is no "contacts" option. This procedure came from a several forums that I have visited. So the next step I did was to make sure that windows live mail was my default, and it was. I than tried and made windows contact my default. The results did not help. Been working on this off and on for four days. Sure could use some help.
thank you

It was there until today. I tried system restore to no avail.

"Group by" appears when I swap to details view but I don't want that setting.

I always use the "list" setting for files in a folder.

It is greyed out in the View dropdown menu and also in the right click context menu.

What do you reckon?

Can't find a solution here or on google.

Hello Willm, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What are your current "Arrange by" (in library), "View by", "Sort by", and "Group by" set as?

Are you able to use "View by" -> "List" using another option below instead?
