Dell XPS 15 9550 Videos online do not play after computer is turned off, also video stuttering

Q: Dell XPS 15 9550 Videos online do not play after computer is turned off, also video stuttering

Hi Everyone! please help!
Every time I turn my computer on (after it was completely off) again which I do a lot as this laptop is so fast to turn off and on, the video streaming does not work.
So after I turn on I go to the bbc, Facebook, youtube, or other streaming sites the video loads and I can click play though it does not actually play, just a still image. same on every website. so to fix this I have to restart the computer, then it works. So for some reason turning the computer off causes this and restarting it fixes it - seems strange to me though more irritating
Second issue is that again online streaming videos stutter all websites all browsers (chrome internet explorer etc.). I have fixed this though by setting Nvidia to be used for the browsers instead of intel. Though this solution uses more power and might be related to the other problem.
This problem has been here since I got the laptop in December 2015, have updated to all the latest drivers bios, applications etc. What else can I do ???

Any help with the videos not playing would be greatly appreciated it is so annoying to turn on the computer go to websites then find you can't play the videos, then remembering you have to restart.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Dell XPS 15 9550 Videos online do not play after computer is turned off, also video stuttering

How are you shutting it down? If you use the standard "Start Menu" > "Power" > "Shutdown", it does not completely shut it down. It saves part of memory in a hibernation file which allows it to quickly restart. This could cause issues when you start up again. If you have not tried this, set up a desktop shortcut (right-click on an empty spot on the desktop, select "New" > "Shortcut" and enter "shutdown /s /t 0" in the box (that's "shutdown" + space + forward slash+"s" + space + forward slash+"t" + space + "0" [the number zero]) without the quotes. Click "Next" and give the shortcut a name, then "OK". This will shut the computer down completely.
The other option is to disable "Fast Startup". That should accomplish the same thing. See if either of these help.

Hi there, I am new here, I have searched the net for an answer to my problem but have been unsuccessful so have decided to post here...

My computer starts stuttering (audio and video) for about 20 seconds every 2-3minutes when I play microsoft flight simulator 2004 which is highly frustrating. It runs fine on 24frames/sec (which I have locked it at) then it goes to 1-3frames for about 20seconds then returns and is fine for 2-3mins. This is a recent problem, I run it on a reasonably capable laptop, it worked perfectly fine for 9months, and it has been like this for the past few weeks.

I've opened the task manager during the stuttering fit and the CPU was running at 98%-100% then after dropped to around 30%.

Specs: Laptop, AMD Turion x2 2.2Ghz, ATI Radeon HD3200, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD

Hope that is comprehensive enough info, I'm not great with computers, but I can't think it is a hardware problem as it worked fine for a good 9months.

Thank you all in advance

I had windows 7 earlier... then I re installed it, due to some reason.
In my new os, whenever I play any online video or even youtube videos, my pc starts lagging and eventually gets hanged for a long time(like 4-5 min).
The videos plays quiet well, but even when I move the mouse cursor, it starts lagging.

I have installed my display card driver (Intel chipset g41). What else do I need to do?
Other basic operations are also taking time.. like opening browser, minimizing browser, opening folders etc.
Though my OS is completely new and no sign of virus infecting it coz I havent downloaded anything yet from net.

What should I do?

Hi,
Is your windows updated yet ?
Use Resource monitor to see if svchost.exe is acting up,

If so
When manually installing updates you need to switch your update settings to Never check for updates and restart the machine first.
Windows Update Settings - Change

Make sure KB3020369 is installed if not manually install it this is the main article page with all versions,
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3020369
These other links do prompt you to download as soon as you click on them just to give you a heads up

Win-7 64 bit
https://download.microsoft.com/downl...020369-x64.msu

Then manually install KB3172605 main article page with all versions,

Need Help
My old laptop has been having a stuttering problem with games for a couple of years now. It?ll stutter for around five seconds, run smooth for around ten seconds, stutter again for five, run smooth for ten. It?ll keep doing that until I stop playing and close the game. It doesn?t start doing the stutter the second I start the game, it?ll start maybe around five minutes into the game and not quit its pattern. It doesn?t matter what game, how old it is, it does this to all.

It also does this while watching online videos. I can?t watch anything on, for example, Hulu, or Gametrailers, without it doing the same stutter pattern.

I didn?t always have this annoyance. It started little over a year after I bought my laptop. During all this time, while putting up with the problem, I?ve done several clean installs. I?ve tried to solve this myself, but never could find anyone with the same exact problem.

I?ve uploaded several videos that show the stutter problem:
MrTatakichi's Channel - YouTube

Also, here's my hardware & processes:

Any help will definitely be appreciated, thank you.

Well, 761 MHz processor speed is way too slow for any modern games. You can check go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. The command prompt box appears, press Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk Utility will check the integrity of the drive. You can also click on the PC Running Slow? link in my signature and try those things. Other then that, you need a faster computer.

hi,

I'm not really sure if this is the right forum for this kind of issue but I don't know where else to post it. okay, so right off the bat I have to warn you - I do not AT ALL understand computers as well as I do not understand technology but my notebook has been acting out and I need to repair it somehow.
it's asus X553MA and I've had it maybe for like a year and a half now. and as I previously said I don't understand computers so if you need some more details you might have to tell me exactly where I can find the information, sorry. the issue is that it freezes when I'm watching a movie or a TV show online, sometimes even when I stop the video and leave the computer like so, it freezes. when the audio is operating, the computer freezes and makes this really scary unrestrainable sound and no matter what I do, I always have to force the shutdown because there is no other way for me to stop it.
it has been happening since I got the notebook and hasn't stopped. it maybe calmed down a little after half a year but it started again last week. I actually even counted and it froze 11 times just today.
can somebody please help me? otherwise I might lose it.

thank you for all your suggestion

Hi All:

have searches this forum for above topics but have not seen this problem posted b4. Any time I click on a video on any site (or if it autoplays) the screen freezes, there is one beep, then it closes to a black screen. This was not happening until recently - videos ran OK. Also I can play video games so guess it is not the video card. No error message.
Have updated FF to current version and also have downloaded the current version of Flash. Also the same problem occurs with Chrome.
Any ideas?

Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. You could try a different media player although the Windows one shouldn't have problems on a website, only with certain pre-made videos (codex situation).

Would you like my Hjk log or do you know what's going on.

Hi. Yesterday, I got 2 Blue Screens in my Windows 7 Home Premium. I have an HP Envy laptop. I had updated my video driver (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850) earlier in the day (although I experienced similar Blue Screens with my old video driver version too...the old one was also the Mobility Radeon HD 5850, just an earlier version). I was trying to watch an online video in Internet Explorer 8, and I got a Blue Screen. So I had to do a manual shutdown. When it started up again, I chose for Windows to check online for a solution to the problem (but Windows never got back to me with one, if it found it). Later on, when trying to watch a YouTube video, the same Blue Screen appeared, and once again I had to do a manual shutdown. It may be related to my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850, maybe even other things which I can't be sure of...also, I mentioned that I got similar BSODs with my old video driver version too. At that time, I'm pretty sure I was using Firefox instead of IE when trying to watch the online videos. By the way, I was able to watch several Youtube videos normally yesterday, but on one occassion I did get that BSOD. Also, here is what at least part of the BSOD said (on both occassions yesterday): "Attempt to reset the display driver and recover from timeout failed." Please help..thanks.

Good Day.

I installed Windows 10 a couple of weeks ago without any incident. However, this week I have noticed that I am unable to play any videos in my hard drive (regardless of format or video player... tried Windows Media Player, VLC, the photos app) or online (like in youtube or facebook). When playing videos on my hard drive, the video player is blank and doesn't play (although VLC shows the filename and the track length just fine). When playing videos through a browser (I use Chrome) the page simply crashes without playing the video.
I have also encountered a browser error where Shockwave Flash isn't responding. I have only one flash player installed so it's likely not a conflict issue on my browser.

Hardware:
Processor: Intel Celeron CPU N2840 @ 2.16GHz
RAM: 2.00 GB
System Type: 64-Bit

Any help on this issue will be much appreciated. Thanks!

A:Videos (online and offline) won't play

barnyard:

Personally I would suspect a video driver incompatibility, or missing codec.  From your description of your system, I am GUESSING that the computer does not have a discreet graphics card.  You should go to the computer manufacturer's website and see if you can locate, download, and install a newer video driver.  That might resolve the problem.

Even so, with a Celeron processor and only 2 GB of RAM for a 64-bit OS, that computer is going to struggle with any serious graphics editing and playback.

Just my guess.  Hope that it helps.  Let us know how you make out.  If that doesn't solve the issue, providing us with more computer specs (make, model, etc.) might help the really knowledgeable folks here to provide you with a definitive answer.  Have a great day.

No embedded WMP videos will play on my computer for some reason. Not on IE and not on firefox. Firefox pops up and says "cannot start directshow player." I didn't have this problem a while ago. Examples of places I cant play videos: gamespot.com and yahoo music. When detecting my settings it says it knows I have windows media, but cant authorize, find the actual program?

What do you think could be the cause of this? A codec problem? Spyware? Firewall of something?

Hi chuchubunny

A few quick-fix things to try:

1) Check the setting in Internet Explorer to "Play videos in webpages" [a checkmark in the select box = enabled .... Go to Start/Control Panel/Internet Options/Advanced ... Multimedia..."Play videos in webpages".
1a) Check that Parental Controls aren't blocking videos (whether or not you are a minor using an adult's computer .. if you are a youngster, make sure it's OK)
2) Try a System Restore. If the videos used to play just fine until recently, you can try using System Restore to recover system settings to a restore point from before the trouble started [Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore ... If you have any questions about the details of how System Restore works, visit the "Help and Support" articles built into Windows -- Go to Start/Help and Support]

See if either of those help

Every time i try and play a flash game or watch a video online it will play for 4 or 5 seconds then my computer will crash or freeze up, and there is this horrible electronic grating sound. The only way to stop it is to do a hard shutdown. I am running Windows 7 home premium 64bit if that helps.

Also it does not crash when playing games like Oblivion and A.V.A just games on websites.

I am at a loss to what the cause of this is.

I will will be playing team fortress 2 and for about half an hour the game is fine then all of a sudden it starts stuttering madly every time it has to access the HD. It will not cease once it has started and the game becomes unplayable.

Also if I am playing streaming videos online the video will pause while the audio continues and then jump to the correct point again after a few seconds. This will happen a cpl times every minute.

Also when typing in boxes like this the words will freeze for a few seconds before spewing out in a big chunk. Also when scrolling a webpage the same thing happens. I will scroll and it locks up then I keep scrolling and the computer beep noise sounds from the mobo then it unclogs again.

I have now tried reinstallling windows several different times with two different windows versions and also on two different hard drives and still no change.

I didn't have this problem before but I had to reinstall windows cos it was screwing up for other reasons. Now that is fixed (fingers crossed) this thing has cropped up.

I require some new input as I've tried all the variables I can think of at the moment.

Another problem which is stopping me from trying the graphics card is that I tried updating the drivers but when I pick the new drivers they lockup youtube videos and cause a reset. I've tried it with several different versions of catalyst and each time the same problem .

Hi, my daughter's pc didn't have a fantastic spec. Half a gig of RAM, & onboard video. She was using a wifi dongle to go online. The playback of videos online is awful. Very choppy in anything higher than 480p.

I wired the pc directly to the router, to hopefully increase her download speed, added an extra 2Gb of RAM, and fitted a 1Gb graphics card, but video is still choppy. On YouTube, having the resolution set at 480p isn't too bad, but anything higher than that keeps stopping & starting, even when the video isn't full screen.

Surely the spec of her pc should now be able to play YouTube videos in HD smoothly?

Win 7 Ultimate (32 bit)
AMD Sempron 3400+ 1.8GHz
2.5Gb of RAM

I did a broadband speed test, & that's coming back as 87.93Mb/s download, & 24.38Mb/s upload.

I was thinking of upgrading the processor to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.6GHz, dual core, as it's supposed to be a direct swap, but I don't know if that would solve the video choppiness problem.

Any ideas how I can resolve this problem, please?

Cheers, P.

I have been having a problem viewing videos on some websites, for example videos from wwe.com and nbcolympics. I have sound but no picture, the ads usually play before the video but then when the actual video starts there is still sound but no picture. This only happens on certain sites, I think it has to do with what type of video it is. Sites like youtube work fine.

Before to correct this problem I used to just run Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D and the video viewing would come back. I have tried those again as well as all the other programs I had to run to get rid of a previous virus, but I am still not able to view video on some sites.

Has anyone else had any other problems such as this and found what was causing it or have any ideas how to fix it? Thanks.

A:No Video But Sound On Some Online Videos

I believe both of those services use Windows Media. I know the WWE does for sure and I'm in Canada so I can't access NBC. So what version Windows Media Player do you have? The latest is WMP 11.

Hello,
I have bought this laptop about 2 months ago. Since i bought it, I have noticed that it's performance is not what i should expect.
I mean, i can be in Google Chrome viewing a page, and in the moment i scroll using my mouse, the laptop like freezes for a milisecond and then continues. Same happens when playing videogames, i can be playing at low/ultra details, 60+ frames per second, but every now and then i get a frame drop and then it goes back to where it was before, it's super annoying and shouldn't be happening.
I always thought it was something with the game, that it was not well optimised but it seems to be the computer.
Things i have done:
1. I reinstalled Windows 10 using the software provided by Microsoft.
2. All my drivers are up to date
What could it be? my laptop specs are:
6th Generation Intel Core i7-6700HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz)]NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR58GB Single Channel DDR3L 1600MHz (8GBx1)1TB (5400rpm) Hybrid HDD with 8GB Flash
All these things occur with the laptop plugged or not, it doesn't matter. Gaming, i have used Balanced and High Performance battery mode but i don't see any difference. This has happened to me for example in CS:GO, LoL, World of Warships, etc.

This is a benchmark i did with HDTune: http://imgur.com/a/wf68f

A:Dell Inspiron 7559 video stuttering

When you are saying that it is stuttering, does it do this all the time or is it something that will be working and then you get a quick stutter and then things return to normal?  If this is happening, it's most likely just a point in time where the files that the processor needs to access files haven't been loaded into RAM yet.  Your processor then has to wait for the HDD to load the file and continue on from there.  Does Google Chrome do this all the time?  Again, when it first boots or if there is something that computer has to load on the webpage such as Flash or anything like that, it can cause a temporary delay in the time that it is loading.  If it's doing it constantly then it might be something to look at, but once in awhile, it's not uncommon for this to happen during loading.  5400RPM is slowest speeds for HDD and it can cause your computer to have to wait for loading here and there.

I run Windows XP with P4 2.0 GHz and 256 of RAM, but when ever i play games online for a short time, my computer freezes. Also, when i play songs for say an hour or even less, the computer freezes. I don't know what is the problem. This happens at least twince in a day.

The other disgusting problem is that, at times, the computer goes off unceremonously whiles working. This also happens at least once in a day.

Buddies, i really need help to solve this problem.

A:My Computer Freezes when i play game online or play music

Sounds like a build up of heat, the most common cause of 'freezing' try running with the case side off and see if there is improvement, if there is you need to add more cooling, making sure your current fans are working properly and are clear of fluff and muck can improve cooling performance dramatically especially the CPU fan and heatsink.

So, last week i jumped online to watch a clip on the BBC website, and as i clicked play, my screen froze for about 5 seconds, the screen then proceeded to turn black - displaying "entering power save".

The PC still runs, i can hear it, and see the power lights on, etc.

I thought it had something to do with the video card, but reading through several of you threads i deduced that if this were the case, then the issue would apply to all video clips/games played? I know very little about PC's, i may be wrong.

But this issue does not occur when i play games, nor does it occur when i play movies on vlc/media player or on sopcast or any other external video application. Only when i am in a browser does this happen. I have tried reinstalling my browsers (i mainly use chrome and firefox) as well as explorer. I downloaded Safari just to see whether it would somehow avoid the problem. But it doesn't.

I would really appreciate some thoughts. Its frustrating not being able to stream/watch online.

Cheers

Try turning off your power saver mode:
(o/s XP this is mine yours may be similar)
-> right click your mouse button when the mouse is on open desk top space
-> navigate to "Properties"
-> select "Screen Saver"
-> in the lower portion of the window there is the "Monitor Power" section and select "Power" button
-> at the heading "Turn Monitor Off" from the drop down menu select "Never"
-> click "Apply"
-> click "Ok"
Hope this helps

Everytime I play video with HD..Any of video players I use can't play it well. It always stopped everytime, the sound doesn't syncron in the video. It also happened like this one, just play the music well but the video can't play well and stop everytime (just static picture) (I play it with Windows Media Player). I installed all the drivers from embedded windows 8 and downloaded and installed the AMD Graphic  and sound drivers as well.  What is this issue?I don't enjoy any videos now , i decided to install  different Windows and use 64 bit instead?? My RAM is only 2 GB anyway. But when I was using windows 10 64 bit (previous window that I use), it didn't have any issue regarding playing any HD videos. What should I do? This is all the drivers and devices I installed

Using XPS 15 (UHD, i7) 9550 with a Monoprice USB-C to Displayport cable hooked up to a Dell U2713HM monitor.  Performance is great, except every now and again, the signal drops for a few seconds, turning the screen black. After a few seconds, it returns.  Not sure if this is an issue anyone else has seen.  Graphics drivers and BIOS are updated to the latest versions.

A:Dell XPS 15 9550 video signal drops using USB-C to DisplayPort cable

I have the same problem with the XPS13 9350 using a usb-c to hdmi cable. External monitor turns on and off randomly which becomes more pronounced when I close the lid (sleep on close lid is OFF). Funnily enough I tried a longer HDMI cable with Ethernet and I was getting no image at all with lid closed. I also have bios and drivers updated.

The present file format of these personal videos is: .3gp. When I try to play them in Xbox video I get this error message: Can't play because the item's file format isn't supported. Check the store to see if this item is available there. 40 apps open when I did check. Does anybody know which app will play this .3gp format? I can visually play them in Windows Media Player but for some reason there's no sound & it's turned up to full volume. Thanks for any help.

A:Personal videos won't play in Win. Xbox video.

VLC Player on the Desktop is by far the best way to go for video files, hands down.

In about a couple of months however, the VLC development team will have an actual Windows 8 app in the Windows Store that should function in the same fashion as the Desktop app, but modern metro style.

I have this issue where sometimes when playing a game, whenever it's about to load a new audio asset, the game briefly freezes. Like for instance, I'm playing the Brutal Doom mod, and it will go fine for a little while but whenever I"m about to for example fire a new weapon, it will freeze itself for a second to seemingly load the new audio file for the gun being shot. There are other games that do this as well. Also, sometimes when watching a video on YouTube, I get audio stutter for a few seconds.

I've done scans with Avast!, Malware Bytes, and Spybot and so far nothing conclusive has come up. I ran the Intel Driver Update program and updated several drivers, but that hasn't fixed it. I also tried disabling Andrea ST but that didn't fix it neither. I've had this laptop for several years now, and it never did this until recently.
