I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running two comps, not networked, into a switch then into an adsl dynalink router modem. I installed an internal cable (5e) between floors ( about 4 yards long) with a modular wallplate at each end which just does not work. Both comps work fine when connected to the switch only, and both do not work via the internal cable. Have tested both wallplates using a short 12" cable and back to the switch and all ok. Have replaced cable from a different supplier and still the same. When I ping the the gateway address most of the time all is timed out, but some times I can get 4 ,3,2 or one reply back using both comps from both ends. FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any ideas?

Thank you

I have two pc's networked in the same room right now. I want to move one of the pc's upstairs. The house I've just moved into have been wired for networking. I'm using two ethernet cards joined by a cross over cable. My question is this, when I move the other pc upstairs do I need a crossover cable in both rooms? My guess is yes, but thought I'd ask before I bought another cable.

I have a 2nd old computer that is the following. I have been really wanting to sell it, even as parts at a time and get $ for it since right now its only used for a TV as im running a TV tuner off it. Well its becoming a waste of time, so Ive been contemplating if I should move it to the guest room and make it a spare computer for when we have guests over, parties etc, they can check their email off that computer - because I have a laptop and dont exactly feel comfortable with just anyone touching it you know? Im sure you lappie owners know what I mean. So run it upstairs and run internet access off it, reformat etc. My parents also won a flat tv this week, and I dont think thats gonna be worth selling. Its 20inch flat tv, but its a cheap brand - and I know people are gonna want it for like under $100 so I figure might as well just keep the tv and use it down here and move the old desktop upstairs. What you think? Im also running a wireless router so I could just get a super long cable maybe? I dont wanna buy a wireless NIC for that old comp haha.

P2 - 350,(if i reformat it runs internet/email fine) 128MB RAM, 10gig HD, onboard sound, 32 MB video card (no onboard video otherwise id use that), NIC, decent 2.1 speakers with sub (could probably sell this off too, but never know when you may want to play music off it upstairs with guests over, they put out pretty impressive sound for in a small bedroom).

So Im basically thinking if its even worth selling off all theparts for di... Read more

I seem to be in the "dire straits" in regard to the amount of room I have on my PC. I use a Dell Optiplex 760 tower, with Win 7 Pro OS, 64-bit, dual partition. Yes, I'm familiar with many various software programs which show HOW the space is being used on my PC; however, not being extremely tech savvy, these do me little good, as I'm usually always left in a quandary about eliminating "this or that" from the system without full knowledge about it.

So, I really don't know what to do at this point (????). I have scrutinized my installed programs, and it seems that I need everyone of them.

Attached is a screenshot of both C and E. Any suggestions would be extremely appreciated. Thanks so much.

A:Out of Room - Now What?

You can make E smaller and assign that saved space to C.

Most likely you'd need Partition Wizard to do it. A free download.

Post a screen shot of Windows Disk Management so we can get a better look at your partitions.

well its kind of a stupid problem really and maybe in the wrong section of this thread but here goes.

The mobo i have has these slots in this order.

Master PCIe X16
PCIe
PCIe
Slave PCI X16
PCI
PCI

now the crap i have to put in them is
2 x Radeon 1GB 2900XTs
Razer sound Card
Asus Physix accelerator
(an i need a way of connecting this computer with another one)

anyway the problem is these GPUs take up two brackets so they partialy cover the ports lower of them making it impossible to fit my other cards unless i remove the Fan/heatsink and go fo a watercooling block however this is expensive and the only other option i could find (External PCI box) is 600 upwards for just 2 slots which is rediculous.

firstly if anybody could help me with a solution to the space problem it would be great
and secondly this is the first time i have tried to set up two pc's on lan an run them off the same net connection so what will i need? They are both XP.
will i need a seperate ethernet card or do some mobos have imbedded lan support?

any help would be extreamly appreciated.

A:Not enough room :(

The answer to your first question is perhaps using a card/bus extender. It's like a small PCI card with bus lines that allow you to extend the location of a device card farther out so it doesn't interfere with adjacent cards. Just a thought, may not solve your problem without actually looking at your system.

In the second, all you need is a router. Windows XP has the networking software and setup you need.

I currently have XP Pro 32-bit(40gb partition), Vista HP 64-bit(30gb partition) and Win7HP 64-bit(50gb partition) installed on the same 500gb, along with another 350gb partition for data. I don't really use the XP anymore and would really like to have more room for Win7. I have attached a snippet of "Computer Management" snap-in. What I would like to do is create more room for Windows 7 and Vista, and just get rid of XP. What is the best way to do this, based on the logical order in the snippet. And will I need to edit the boot menu (System Start up )?

Thanks,
Scott

A company I do work for has located their HP NetServer server in a tiny room which also houses 3 large breaker boxes, and a metal trunk that houses the wires and meters for the building runs through this room. Also the server and hub are within 1 foot of the trunk, and 3 or 4 feet of the breakers. I understand this is probably not good...is there an easy way to determine if there is indeed a field of interference that is affecting the server? A meter or something to use that is inexpensive and available on the market? Also, would EMI cause issues such as the server needing a reboot daily, because print jobs are hung in the queue or only print the first page over and over (and rebooting seems to clear it up for a short time)? The Application Log fills up with errors, such as IGMPv2 41012 events.

Thanks for any help or pointers,
Johnny5

A:EMI in Server Room?

The transmission errors are probably due to a faulty network card somewhere in the system. Replacing the hub with a router may provide some relief. I believe Radio shack sells some cheap EMI field detectors, but I'm not sure what can be done about shielding the cables short of wrapping them with aluminum foil. Not sure if that would help or not. Having to reboot is probably an issue with a driver, or a lack of memory in the server. Since the case is most likely shielded, the server is not likely to have a problem with the breaker box being close by.

I am adding a second computer in the same room as my current computer. I wish to share the internet connection/printer/drives. As I see it, I have 3 options:
Bring the router/firewall and cable modem up into the room that both pc's are in, and connect both pc's to the router.
Buy a new switch, and connect both pc's to it, leaving the router/firewall and cable modem downstairs.
Use the second ethernet port on my motherboard to connect the second pc, again, leaving the router/firewall and cable modem downstairs.

Not sure if this is the right section to post this but I need some help here. I'm running Windows 7 and have two internal hdd in my computer. One is a 40gb that came with the computer and the second is a 120gb I installed myself later on down the road.

Now when I installed Windows 7 I just moved all my music/pictures/videos to my 120gb hdd and disconnected it. My problem here is my 40gb hdd is almost full at roughly 4gb left over and I think it's slowing my computer down.

My problem is I have no idea how to clean up the 40gb hdd? I can't even figure out what in the world is on it that's taking up so much room?... All my music/videos/pictures are on my second hdd. The OS and some Program Files from installed programs are on the C:\. That shouldn't take up 40gb though right?....

I don't even know where to start here because the first thought I had was "well only thing that should be on C:\ that I can remove is program files" and under add/remove programs it's quite obvious none of the programs take up a large amount of space to add up to 40gb at all.

Anybody point me in the direction I need to start cleaning up my C:\?

A:Making Room On HDD

Approx 35GB used for just the OS & a few applications does sound a lot. My Windows 7 plus applications takes up just 21GB, and that includes a few large applications like Photoshop CS3 which weighs in at 2GB.

System Restore points will also use some space, but I have SR disabled on my PC.
It may be enabled on yours.

I wouldn't even try to make more room on a paltry 40GB drive. It's woefully inadequate by todays standards. Back up your system drive as a disk-image, change the drive for a larger capacity one, then write the backup image to the new drive, making sure you select the option to "resize the image to fill the drive".

Windows 7 includes a backup tool which can create a disk-image of the system drive, but I don't know if it can resize to restore it to a larger drive because I use a third-party disk-imaging application.

I want to soundproof my roof without buying any soundproof panels, bass traps etc. I just want to mount or place or displace any objects so that there will be no reverberation in my room.
I also heard that soundproofing acoustical foam will be a good idea to minimize it but I don't want to buy. Can I place or mount a simple thick foam on the walls? Or, What are the stuff that I need to remove inside my room?

The things that are placed in my room:

Single Bed
Computer with sound system
Mirror facing just opposite to Computer with sound system.
Cupboard made of Furniture.

There are books kept nearby on the table but no Bookshelf and my CPU and sub-woofer placed under the table and above 1 LCD screen with 2 speakers.
The room has a measurement of ( 4.26 m * 3.35 m* 3 m ) ( l. b. h)

So please suggest me ways to improve sound insulation by soundproofing the room.

A:How do I soundproof my room? ( D. I. Y )

Reverberation can have many causes but if the problem is due to echo off the walls then a layer of foam will cut it down. I would also consider something like a curtain of failry heavy fabric over the mirror. Other things to look at are the way your speakers are mounted, these need to be on firm supports for best results. Acoustic lab type anechoic foam is not suitable for your needs - that stuff is bulky !

Other things to bear in mind. If this isn't your own room then I would speak to either your parents or your landlord before sticking foam panels up all over it !  And a final thought, a high quality pair of comfortable headphones might be a cheaper and simpler solution.

So is there a way to force the upgrade to download to Drive C?

The six inches of free space should be more than ample.
Minimum clearances >  Leave 4 inches minimum clearance on all vented sides of the computer to permit the airflow required for proper ventilation.
Do not install your computer in an enclosed space that does not allow airflow. Restricting the airflow impacts your computer’s performance, possibly causing it to overheat.

I have an Acer desktop (will update with specs)
Just a quick question.. I have room for 2 SATA HDD's.

1. Was my main HDD (was 1TB but corrupted so been replaced)
2. Goes into my disc drive

I don't have a 3rd, so was wondering is they some kind of splitter I could use to split one of the SATA cables?

So it goes from my PC to a splitter, then the splitter has 2 connections for the SATA?

Thanks.

Hi sorry if this is in the wrong section or anything, I'm completely new to this forum. I really need some help getting the internet into a bedroom.
The bedroom is situated over the top of a garage and has thick insulation, so much so that you can't get a wireless signal into the room.

There is a phone socket by the computer above the garage, and there is a phone socket by the computer in the house. I have already tried connecting another router to the computer above the garage but that didn't work as I don't think you can run two routers off one phone cable. And I have tried wireless obviously but it couldn't get a signal in the room above the garage.

Basically, does any one have any ideas of how I could get the internet in the room above the garage and in the house, without using wireless?

Thanks for your help and I'm sorry if that didn't make any sense

I noticed that my PC can pick up the Router's signal from the Server a lot easier and double the Mbps if I keep my Room open. You could try keeping your door open or try getting a Modem from a Copany such as Virgin Media and AOL.

I have copper wiring outside my house so that I can get DSL with a certain outlet that the internet provider has made in my wall (it has a Ethernet port). I was wondering if I can use a modem in another room to get internet.

Hello everyone,

I am not that great with networking and I was wondering how easy it would be to get cabled broadband into every room in my new house. It is going to be wired in as the house is being built.

I have a BT home hub that has 2 ethernet ports on the back and my thought was to use one for upstairs and one for downstairs. Is it possible to have a Double port wall socket and then connect both of the Ethernet wires from the HomeHub into the wall socket which will then split each ethernet into 4 rooms?

E.g. Ethernet Port 1 will be used to supply 4 ethernet plugs in the upstairs and Ethernet Port 2 will be used to supply 4 Ethernet ports downstairs.

Any advice on this would be great.

Thanks, Jack-O-Bytes

I have a miniscule 4gig internal hard drive and a massive 250G external drive attached..
I have moved everything I think i can to the external drive and still only have 400mb free on my internal drive.. as a result windows is constantly telling me Im running low on disc space.. especially when using Photoshop..
any way of safely checking and removing/transferring stuff to the other drive?

A:Clearing Room

A 4GB drive is getting kind of long in the tooth....especially with today's OS' taking up so much room. With an old drive like that, you risk a major crash/failure. Honestly, I would recommend ditching the 4GB drive for one with a higher capacity; still keeping the external for data only.
