How do I Lenovo BIOS Upgrade for Thinkpad E540 for Windows 7 from ISO CD?

Q: How do I Lenovo BIOS Upgrade for Thinkpad E540 for Windows 7 from ISO CD?

Please Help! I ran the Lenovo BIOS Upgrade for Thinkpad E540 for Windows 7; it didn?t work. (?Failure to Read BIOS?) So I downloaded the ISO version, and burned it to a CD. My laptop boots up ONLY from the CD. Now exactly what do I do now, in simple instructions, to upgrade from the ISO CD to the new updated BIOS so that it would be on my laptop (instead of having to boot from the CD every time)? Thanks!

Preferred Solution: How do I Lenovo BIOS Upgrade for Thinkpad E540 for Windows 7 from ISO CD?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How do I Lenovo BIOS Upgrade for Thinkpad E540 for Windows 7 from ISO CD?

Welcome to the forum!

If you boot from the CD (and the ISO was correctly burned on the CD), you only need to follow the instructions on the screen. If I remember correctly you need to press Enter once, (eventually confirm by pressing the "Y" key) and then the BIOS will be updated. After that you can remove the CD and boot normally.

You need to be connected to the AC and have a full charged battery before the update.

Hope this helps...

Hello,I have a laptop of Lenovo ThinkPad E540 (20C600JAMC) for Windows 10 64bit.Graphics card Intel HD Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 4600 740M.In the BIOS I have set the Intel card, the device manager then NVIDIA card and laptop works fine. After the switch in the BIOS on the NVIDIA Windows Optim, already booted after switching off the machine.I think it is related to the version of the BIOS, because the older version wasn't until after updating the BIOS, the problem appeared. When the set's BIOS graphics NVIDIA does not remember the time. Other values remain set.Can you handle it?Thank you.

I have tried resetting bios, moving ram sticks, messing with BIOS, running hardware checks and software, startup repair says that the laptop boots up, and find no problems, but it doesnt let me do a windows memory diagnostic, i may provide extra information if needed, and i do not know if any more is required, and please do help me, i cannot do anything on my pc until it is fixed

I just got an E540 and upon a Windows install, after updating the AHCI driver, the screen glitches out (crazy colors, lines, etc) and the system locks up. After a reboot, during Windows startup, the screen glitches out again and it completely powers off. System restore removes the driver and restores the ability to boot.
I've installed the driver from both Lenovo and a newer one from Intel and get the same result.
Windows has the driver already and I'm not opposed to leaving it the way it is, I'm just really wondering about this issue and would like to eventually update.
This happens on both Windows 7 and Windows 10, by the way.

Thanks in advance!

I am having problems with a Lenovo ThinkPad E540 and the Synaptic Touchpad driver in Windows 10 64 Bit. What is happening is the cursor is showing with a vertical scroll rather than just the standard windows arrorw and I am unable to remove it. I have tried a number of different drivers 19.0.17.2, but this just auto updates to 19.0.17.27. I have also downloaded the recommended driver from the Lenovo Support website which is version, 19.0.10.0 and again it updates to 19.0.17.27. I have managed to leave the laptop with just 19.0.17.2 installed and stop the 19.0.17.27 from downloading via windows update, but this only lasted a few weeks and I had the same issue. I have also uninstalled Synaptic software and remove it from device manager, however after rebooting it installs again. Can anyone help and supply solution to this annoying mouse issue?

Hello. I'm having a substandard issue with my Lenovo Yoga Laptop that I will try to explain in complete detail. First I'll summarize what's going on, then I'll list all  the details that could be related to this problem, no matter how small, in order of most likely related to least likely related. I'm an IT technician so I have some grasp of computer troubleshooting, just keep in mind. Alright, so the issue is that my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga (can't find exact model, label only days Yoga and its dated in 2013) will not boot into Windows 10 after I have done an upgrade from Windows 8.1 using Microsoft's media creation tool. More specifically, I was able to do the firat time setup and boot on once but after searching for Windows updates and restarting, the computer will not boot on. The most likely reason for this I believe is that the laptop doesn't recognize the SSD with Windows 10 on it. It can detect it in some ways but not others. In Lenovo diagnostics I'm not able to run a storage test, which is an option I know is usually there because I've troubleshooted these before, which leads me to believe it doesn't recognize it. However, boot menu and BIOS recognize the drive. Attempting to boot to it from boot menu gives a long black screen and then it takes me back to boot menu. Letting my computer boot up normally also gives a long black screen after the ThinkPad logo and the automatically goes to boot menu. The other diagnostics for Lenovo hardware all pass. So some... I bought an E540 for my wife many years ago. She didn't really get the hang of it so it was put into a cupboard and has collected dust for many years. My kids are getting to the age where they can start to use a computer so I want to get it going again. I have found the cable and powered it up, but the password is locked and my wife cannot remember it! I have tried re-booting from the partition at start-up using F11, but it does not work. This machine is running Windows 8 and was only used for a very brief period before it was abandoned. No one has ever re-installed anything or otherwise fiddled with the operating system.  As far as I can see, we have none of the original software or accessories that came with it, other than the power cord  Any thoughts on how I might be able to get it going would be greatly appreciated.

I did the bios upgrade to version 2.23, now I cannot sleep, hibernate or shutdown my laptop. All these actions just result in it rebooting. I tried to rollback, disabled the rollback protection and flashed the old bios firmware but it doesn't seem to be sticking. It still shows 2.23 as the version despite the bios firmware flash completing successfully. Suffice to say this is very very inconvenient.

Hello. I would like to resolve my problem with my E540 with OneLink Dock Pro.  When dock is connected to my notebook and I press power button, backlight of display lights up, but display stays black, no lenovo logo, nothing... Sometimes it shows logo but it freezes on this logo too. When I disconnect dock, notebook boots up normally. I tryed to disconnect monitor, keyboard and mouse from dock too, but it has no effect. This "freezing" seems to be happening only when dock is connected. On charger notebook boots up normally. And last note, this is happening only on "cold" start, restart works normaly. Problems started just after flashing new firmware to dock (v. 2.30) and BIOS update (v. 2.23). I do not know what made this problems, because I was doing these updates together. Thanks for any answer...

A:Thinkpad e540 is it possible to ad a m2.2242 ssd and boot from it

I don't have one to try, but there is a slot for a WWAN card or a 2242 M.2 SSD that is easy to access.  Remove the big cover and it is visible.  If you lay the machine down with the memory slots and the HDD toward you, it is above the HDD, to the left of the CPU.  The other thinkpads of that generation (T440, T540, W540) will all boot fine from the drive.

Hi,I am shopping for a new laptop and am looking at the E440, E540, T440, and T440s. I would like to know the maximum RAM that can be installed in the E440 and E540. I can't find this information anywhere. Also, this is called the "E Series" on the website, but here it says "Edge". I assume this is the same thing?  I also went to Crucial.com to look at memory and see how much the maximum was, but they do not show the E Series, only the Edge. Thanks,Kkb

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The maximum memory that can be installed in a Lenovo ThinkPad E440 and E540 is 16GB.
The E stands for Edge series.

Best regards,

About three weeks ago I upgraded BIOS on my laptop (as suggested by Lenovo Vantage) to latest version (N14ET45W (1.24), 3/01/2018). I am running Windows 10 64 bit. Shortly after that I started suffering quite frequent momentary freezing events where I had to wait between 10 to 40 seconds for the machine to continue working. During this period many of the running apps were closed and then reopened and I could not type or do any other thing. As you can imagine, this turned to be quite frustrating. I started searching at several forums, mainly Windows 10 related forums for a solution. U tried every possible solution, from updating all drivers to editing Registry etc. with no positive results at all. I was finally considering a full reimage of my machine when my latest resource turned to be rolling back my BIOS, as after checking on dates it seemed my suffering started shortly after my latest Lenovo Vantage drivers and BIOS update. Accordingly, I rolled Back from indicated BIOS to N14ET45W (1.23), 2/28/2018.Voila! This was the required solution. After that, my machine has been running smoothly, with no freezing events.Hope I had found a solution at any forum, and that?s why I am sharing this information here, as I really spent almost three weeks of frustration and unsuccessful searching/testing. I think Lenovo should test better and BIOS release. Hope my post may help other X1 Carbon 3rd Gen with a similar issue. DO NOT UPGRADE BIOS TO version (N14ET45W (1.24), 3/01/2018!!... Read more

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

Hi guys, I have no idea what's happening with my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga S1 (it's about 3.5 years old, its warranty just expired). Every time I reboot, I get this weird message saying "Configuration changed, please reboot the machine...". I then proceed to reboot the machine and everything works but the bios options are always resetted! This makes the laptop extremely unusable for me as I always swap the fn/ctrl keys so that I don't have to learn a new keyboard every time I switch computers. If I go back and change the option, it works fine, but the next reboot it does the same message again and I have to reconfigure the bios at EVERY boot. I'm lucky this option is the only one I changed, otherwise someone that would have changed the boot order/graphics settings/passwords etc. would be in a much worst situation than me...At first this seemed like a typical bios battery being out of juice so that the config can't stay saved, but I've now changed the bios battery twice with new ones and this doesn't change anything... It's been working perfectly for 3 years but now it just suddenly stopped working for that reason (by not working I mean the bios that keeps resetting itself, I can still boot to my main OS just fine after). If anybody has any suggestion that would be greatly appreciated. I thought about flashing the bios but afaik it's the latest one, and anyway as I'm only running GNU/Linux I can't run the .exe tool to update it (off-topic but please lenovo have another way to u... Welcome to the forum!

There's no hard drive size limit on your machine - so if you want to put in 500GB, go ahead. The same holds true for the drive speed - your choice.

Any 9.5 mm laptop SATA drive - including SATA II - will work fine, but you'd need a modded BIOS to utilize the SATA II speeds on your machine.

T9600 will not work. T7700 should.

Your machine can handle 4GB of RAM for sure. And yes, if both slots are populated, it works in dual channel mode.

You could upgrade the screen to SXGA+ (1400x1050) or UXGA (1600x1200) that were used on T60/p generation.

Enjoy the upgrade process.

A:How to upgrade lenovo thinkpad R500 CPU

Welcome to the forum!

The easiest is to download the HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual, which you can get from here: click me!) and follow the instructions from page 107 onwards. Take a look at the printed page # of the document, not the one your PDF viewer says.

RELEVANCY SCORE 60.4

I am a "techno-phobe"- and a "Have No Clue" when it comes to computers.

On another site- someone told me that I could upgrade my laptop by changing out the CPU and hard drive. I went to the Lenovo site to try to get prices, etc- but there is NOTHING of the sort on the site. Only a warning about VOIDING your WARRANTEE.... but I'm already "out of warranty".

Is this possible ? Is this practical ? THANKS
