Q: Thunderbolt 3 Dock with T470s Bios options

HiI just would like a description and confirmation on what the following options do under the Thunderbolt 3 dock in the Bios for this series laptop I tested the option "No security" and this seems to bypass the authentication pop up when logged into Windows when plugging in the Thunderbolt 3 dock. So essentially it enables network ethernet connection to work straight away Can someone tell me what the other options do?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all, Before I blow $500 on this dock can anyone tell me if my t470s will work with it? I want to output 4k at 60hz to two monitors. https://www.alogic.co/alogic-thunderbolt-3-dual-display-docking-station-w-4k-power-delivery-black.ht... It uses HDMI for one of the outputs, and my monitors are thinkvision p27u-10's which have HDMI 2, so that shouldn't be a issue.

It appears that the only way to report a BIOS bug to Lenovo is to post in the Forum (at least that is what hardware support told me), so here goes! Base system:20HF-CT01WW (T470s)BIOS: 1.11 (issue also showed up under 1.10)Windows 10 Pro Edition, Creators Edition, fully patched. The Thunderbolt port only shows up in Device Manager when the Thunderbolt firmware utility is run - it appears that Thunderbolt ports dynamically attach to the PCI bus only when necessary (i.e. firmware utility asks it to turn on or a device is plugged into the port).Booting with battery from a cold boot (machine powered off for at least 15 seconds) results in a hang with the windows boot time circle of dots cycling endlessly. Am running a T470s with a Gigabyte eGPU. Been working fine until I upgraded to the latest BIOS 1.31 the other day, and now it no longer works. The small fain of the eGPU will spin up but the main unit itself (main fan, lights, etc.) will not spin up at all. Thus far I have...1. Checked BIOS settings (No Security)2. Installed/reinstalled Thunderbolt software & firmware3. Downgraded BIOS to the last two versions and back4. Tested eGPU with work laptop & it functions as expectedI'm running Windows 10 but I believe that the issue is unrelated to Windows 10. The reason is, is that beforehand, when the laptop first boots and is still in the BIOS phase, the eGPU used to fire up immediately (lights & main fan). But I cannot even get that, which tells me the issue is not Windows 10 related.Any other suggestions before I go open a support ticket with Lenovo? I'm still under warranty at least.

I used the Lenovo System Update (v5.07.0074) and was prompted to download and install (was listed as Critical Update) the Firmware to my Dock.  As always, I closed all applications and sat as the Firmware downloaded. I got the expected prompt to ensure I was plugged in. I then watched as the upgraded prompted me to install. Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I then noticed that none of the pass-through power was working on the dock.  So, I unplugged it again.  Unplugged everything connected to it, and held the power button down for 15 seconds in an effort. All of this at the recommendation of Lenovo Support. Who, by the way, was very nice and well spoken. Nothing we did worked. I happened to have another Thunderbolt 3 cable in my bag, and no change. I powered up my new X1 Yoga, and connected the cable. No power. This wasn't passing power at all. I confirmed the Intel Thunderbolt app was running, and confirmed that Windows was not even detecting the Dock.  Lenovo is sending me a replacement. Hello everyone, I recently bought a Thinkpad X1 Extreme and I am now locking for a suitable Thunderbolt 3 dock. Although I've read a lot of posts about various docks I am still a little consfused about which one to choose. It seems like the following ones would all work with the X1 Extreme:1. Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W:https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...2. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (170W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...3. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (230W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/top-tech/Thunderbolt-WS-230W-dock-US/p/40AN023... Please correct me if I am wrong but to me it seems as if the only difference between these docks is that the workstation ones come with two AC adapters each and a special Thunderbolt/Power cable to avoid using two different cables. Or are there any other technical differences? So if I am okay with a two cable solution couldn't I just use the Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W and connect it via Thunderbolt while at the same time use my 135W AC adapter to charge the laptop? Thanks a lot in advance.

I have done for many months and all was fine. I recently ran system update and found multiple drivers needed updating, I ran this and since I cannot use my external monitors.  Thunderbolt software is up to date, as per screenshot it doesnt show the controller version or details in lower half. Device Manager doesnt show the controller at all (even hidden devices). I have tried:uninstall/reinstall of TB SWrunning the firmware update tool but that just says 'No Active Controller' in the system.I have tried reinstalling every Intel driver availablethe BIOS was updated by System Update previouslyI have checked the BIOS settings and everything is enabled I found a system restore point from a few days ago which I think is before this started, rolling back to that allows the TB3 SW to show the controller version and a device showing in Device Manager but my monitors still dont work. A further reboot without changing anything takes me back to 'None' controller version and nothing in Device Manager. Open to the idea it could be my adaptor has died, I understand you sometimes need a TB3 device connected to update the FW (?) but I do not have any other devices, hoping to try my adaptor on another machine at head office next week to ... Is there any reason I wouldn't be able to use a T470s with a Dell USB-C dock (specifically a WD15)? I know the power adapter would be different, but I can't think of any reason the USB-C wouldn't be compatible. I prefer the peripheral connections on the Dell dock to the Lenovo 40A9 (which only has DP and VGA, and is recommended for only two external monitors, whereas I'd like to be able to connect three). Also, sorry if this has been discussed before; I searched around but couldn't find the right topic.

We recently started using Bitlocker with a PIN at startup. On all our laptops using the "old"-type dock, that you click your laptop into everything is working fine, the users put the laptops into the dock, turn it on, type in the Bitlocker PIN using the external monitor and keyboard, and then processed into Windows. Our problem is with everyone using the new Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock. When the users connect the laptops to the dock using the cable and then power on from the dock, the laptop will power on (the LED in the ThinkPad logo lights up) but the monitors and keyboard connected to the dock is not working, and then after some time the laptop will power off again. We currently use a workaround where the users power on, type in the Bitlocker PIN and login to Windows before connecting the laptop to the dock, but this not a proper solution. We have Enabled both "Thunderbolt(TM) device" and "USB device" under "Support in Pre Boot Environment" in the "Thunderbolt 3"-menu in BIOS, but it still doesn't work. Have anyone else experienced this problem? Or does anyone know of a proper solution.

The last most annoying problem is that there is no charging through the thunderbolt connector, the dock is in SELF POWER status. Screenshots attached.

As the only docking solution available and moving from a more traditional dock, its less than suitable.  HP needs to make a longer cable and the end that connects to the laptop should be at a right angle.  The cable is so stiff and thick it takes nearly 4" to make the turn.  HP makes it impossible to find this out how long the cable is with out purchasing and at that point your stuck with it.  Hardly a customer satisfaction issue they should want to propigate!

Hello all,I bought a Yoga X1 2018 and during the shop they suggest the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Dock. Since I thought that having to disconnect only one cable when bringin the laptop from the desk to the meeting room would have been useful, I bought it.With my disappointment I setup everything and I did some tests on the laptop just to discover that the performance of the laptop when powered through the docking station are 1/3 with respect to when it's powered by the 65W power supply and 1/2 of when the laptop is on battery... (234pt vs 640pt vs 563pt | dock/65W/battery)Now since the docking station has a 135W power supply, I really can't think that this is an issue with the supply from the docking. Also since the laptop is even faster on battery I really don't understand how it could be related to the power supply... anyway I've connected both the 65W power supply and the docking and the performance are back to normal. Is there anyone who can suggest me what's going on or how to report this to Lenovo?

My company has issue me a Lenovo T470s and an Ultra Dock to replace my existing equipment. I have two external monitors connected to the docking station with display port cables. The problem that I am experiencing is that if the laptop is docked and the cover is open, I get video on the laptop display and one external monitor. The other external monitor gets no signal and goes to sleep. If I close the laptop cover, I get video on both external monitors. A co-worker told me that this was working as designed and that the solution for getting video on all three monitors was to connect one external monitor to one of the display ports and the other to the DVI port. (He hadn't tested this configuration and is using two display ports with the laptop cover closed.) I tried my coworker's suggestion and got the same result but prior to switching to DVI, I downloaded and installed the latest(?) driver for the HD Graphics 620 adapter from this website (lenovo.com) and that seemed to solve the problem (when using two display ports) but after shutting the laptop down, I had the same issue the next day. What I want, is to have the laptop cover open and still be able to use two external monitors and get optimal resolution on all three monitors. What's the best configuration for achieving this? (Don't guess, like my co-worker. Give me something you've tested and that you can confirm that it works.)

I am trying to connect two Sceptre U27 4k monitors via display port to the Thinkpad Ultra Dock 40A2 and i'm not having any luck. With a Thinkpad T470s) I can get 1 working but the other monitor just doesn't see a signal. The only setup i've gotten to work is one monitor at 4k @ 30hz on a Display Port and the other at 1920x1080 via DVI I have tried:both display port, 4k @ 30hz (<--- what i'd like to get working since both at 60hz isn't an option with this dock I don't believe)one display port, 4k @ 30hz, one hdmi 4k @ 30hz (via hdmi on the back of the dock)one display port, 4k @ 30hz, one hdmi via hdmi port on the side of the laptop Is anyone familiar with what magic combination of cables and ports would allow me to run both 4k monitors at 30hz, via the two display ports at the back of this dock? I would think updating the docks firmware may help ( https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/ThinkPad-Pro-Dock-ThinkPad-Ultra-Dock-or-Thin... ) but there inlies another issue.  Our corporate image on these laptops is RHEL 7.5 and I do not see an option to flash any firmware available from linux unfortunately. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:T470s and Ultra Dock 40a2 dual 4k display port monitors not functioning

I'm thinking my best bet may be to use a Display Port to USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 cable for one monitor and the docking stations display port for the other.

hello, we have a brand new spectre. first the device is amazing, i love it. but we have the following problem with the  HP Elite Thunderbold 3 65W Dock, if the Spectre is connected over Thunderbold Cable and on the Dock with Thunderbolt/Power combination cable connector, One 4.5mm power input every Device is working, Network is working, USB, both Display Ports are working, but the Spectre does not charge. i have installed the newest FIrmware Update  for the Thunderbold Dock Driver and i have updated BIOS, Intel Thunderbold Drivers on the Spectre. We have changed also the Thunderbolt 3 Dock with an new one, same problem.  one thing, on the front the light is off and i cannot turn on the spectre with the button.  any ideas, hints??? and yes i have connected the spectre over one of the 2 thunderbold ports, because the spectre has only 3 usb-c ports but 2 of them have thunderbold technology. i see also that the tb3 dock is recognized in windows at the thunderbold software.  kind regards, sebastian

The thunderbolt dock was working.  I was gone for a week.  Came back and plugged laptop into dock.  No longer works.   The dock will charge the laptop, but none of the devices are recognized. Drivers are up to date.
