Solved: Dell Latitude D620 not connecting to wifi, but connecting at home

Q: Solved: Dell Latitude D620 not connecting to wifi, but connecting at home

Hi, I have a Dell Latitude D620 with a Dell Wireless WLAN. I connect to my wireless connection at home fine, but any time I take my computer to a wifi hotpsot, it cannot connect. I SEE that there is a network there, I click "connect" to that network, and my computer doesn't do anything. My Wireless is set to obtain IP addresses automatically, so that is not the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might try to fix this??

Preferred Solution: Solved: Dell Latitude D620 not connecting to wifi, but connecting at home

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

can we see a screen shot of device manager
{Device Manager}
Post back the results in device manager
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 (1490 WLAN mini-card) running Windows XP SP2 that refuses to connect to my Westell (Verizon DSL/Wireless router combo) router.

Some details:
1. My network is secured by WEP 128bit and both SSID hide and MAC address filtering is turned ON. HOWEVER, when I did turn off all filtering and WEP, the Dell found the network and listed it in Wireless connections but still did not connect when I tried connecting to the unsecured network. (The HP connects in the unsecured case as well).
2. I have another HP Pavilion laptop that I am able to connect to this network. I compared all wireless network settings and couldn't find any differences between them (other than the network cards are different between the two laptops).
3. I did uninstall and reinstall the 1490 from device manager - no effect.
4. I did update the driver for the 1490 router - no effect.
5. I tried turning Windows firewall off - no effect.
6. I do know that the wireless card on the Dell works since it connects to my network at work.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Has this laptop ever connected at home?

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL and press enter.

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

Someone I work with has a Dell Latitude D620 and the screen blanks while booting in normal mode when in the dock. Laptop boots normally when not docked.

When I try and boot (in normal mode) when docked, I see the black "XP Pro" screen loading (but don't see where I can press F2 to get into setup or F12 for boot menu) and then the screen goes blank.

I thought it may be a screen resolution issue and I backed off the resolution from 1440X900 to 1280X800 but still no luck. Refresh rate is 60hz I do get video when I boot into Safe mode, but not normal mode. Any ideas here?

I have a Latitude E6530 running Windows 7 with updated with all drivers just a few days ago and this problem still persists:
When I connect a USB device to any of the super speed ports, the CPU usage goes up. Looking in the task manager, I can see that the items Interrupts and System are both consuming ~10 CPU. As this is a multi core machine, this essentially means that 100% of 2 threads are completely blocked.
This problem started a few years back when I did a complete driver update (I had a replacement BT card that didn't work and I thought that updating the drivers would help, unfortunately the BT card was broken and the update gave me broken USB drivers instead :(
If I hibernate the computer, the problem goes away after it wakes up again, but as soon as I connect a USB device to any of the USB3 ports, the problem comes back.
Any thoughts on what this is and what I can do to fix it?
Best regards,
Stefan Burstrom

I have the same problem on a Dell Latitude E6530 from this post : en.community.dell.com/.../20013042
(I cannot answer in the original post, the forum gives me an error).
I use Windows 10 Pro 64 bits (1703).The BIOS is up to date : version A20 (05/08/2017).
When I plug ou unplug a device on the USB 3.0 ports (right or left port), the System process goes up to ~15% CPU usage. I have to sleep/resume or reboot to have a normal CPU usage. The CPU usage is taken by the ACPI.sys (found with Windows Performance Recorder).
This problem does not happen with USB 2.0 (rear port) or E-SATA port on right.
What can I do ?

Try power cycling your modem, and router. if the modem and router are a all in one unit, unplug the power cord from it, wait about one minute then plug power back in, wait for the lights to stabilize, then try to connect.

If your Modem / Router are separate, then remove power from both, power up the modem, wait for lights to stabilize, then power up the router, and wait for the lights to stabilize. If this doesn't work, then follow these instructions, and post the results - Pre-posting Requirements - for both Wired and Wireless Connectivity Issues

I have 5 computers (2 windows, 1 mac laptop, 1ipad, 1 kindle fire) connected to belkin wifi router / MOdel: F5D8235-4, V3 in basement where modem is in my office; with a belkin range extender upstairs in living room to send signal to kitchen.

Everything was working fine till 2 days ago, when the mac laptop started having problems with timing out when going for email and web. Only the mac laptop his having problems, and only at home network both upstairs, and also when placed immediately adjacent router i basement; works fine (went to apple store to check airport card, and settings; works fine there) everywhere but on home network.

Spent time with Belkin, router seems fine, as all other devices work fine on wireless network both upstairs and downstairs.

Appreciate any suggestions how to check/delete/reinstall mac laptop on home network; as I figure the problem is with mac laptop's connection to router - so am wondering how to delete/reinstall mac laptop via router's control panel

Okay, so this is semi continuation/different issue from one posted on the virus forum. I finally got fed up up with home WIFI not working on my fiance's laptop so I restored the laptop to it's factory settings. I am installing the windows updates buttit still will not connect to the home WIFI. Initially the laptop would connect but when I unistalled the pre-installed Norton and installed Symantec Endpoint protection it quit having internet access. This actually occured upon uninstalling Norton, before I had finalized the Symantec installation. It states that is identifying the network and that I have no internet access. Any thoughts and help will be greatly appreciated.

ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post the results in a reply here.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and paste here.

We would like to see the results from an ipconfig /all - post back the results in a reply here.

This should also work for windows 8
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box
(A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results into notepad and then automatically open the notepad and display on your screen.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results into a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will now be highlighted
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy

Now go back to the forum - goto the reply and then right click in the reply box and paste the results.
The results from the notepad should now appear in the forum reply.

Or could there be another reason why the new dell laptop won't connect to wifi. I have followed all troubleshooting instructions but nothing is working.

I am having trouble getting an HP laptop to automatically connect to our home wifi. It won't connect either on start up nor after it has woken from sleep mode. Both times it has to be manually connected.
I have checked the 'automatically connect' in the wireless networks properties box but it seems to uncheck itself after it shuts down.
This is the 2nd router that it won't connect to whereas all the other wireless computers etc we have have no problem connecting to the router
If someone would be kind enough to suggest a fix I would be much appreciative.

My Dell Latitude D620 latop has had problems with the touchpad/blue nobby (not sure what they call that). The click buttons don't work either. I used to be able to just restart my laptop, but the problem seems to continue.

I had this problem at one point, and I reformatted with success. But it just started again.

The only settings I have changed were the settings for power (turning off monitor/hdd etc). I have tried installing fresh drivers from dell, old drivers, enabling/disabling the touchpad in the BIOS, and I've given up and now just using a USB wireless mouse.

When I put in the little Dell Resource CD, it doesn't even say that I have the hardware. Also, when I navigate to the Device Manager, there isn't a 'Mice and other pointing devices' tree. Finally, when I startup the laptop, go to Control Panel>Mouse>Hardware, it shows all the information as blank.

Any ideas? I would appreciate it.

A:dell latitude d620

No. Only a version from Dell will work with his product key. And the one found by Jelly Bean is the wrong one - it is used on all Dell machines of that model and won't reinstall from the Dell disk. You need to use the number on the sticker on the machine. If his recovery partition is still there, restore using that.

I'm here to bother you guys about a laptop I've got it's a dell latitude d620. I've been through 2 lcds and 3 ribbons nothing seems to help. the computer boots just fine the problem is with the screen the computer starts but there is a... I dont wanna call it lines but i think its what they are, you can only tell the difference in small areas like the outline of the mouse, or the letters in the menu, overall it looks like it has a bad resolution. but i know that's not it. I've run w7 and multiple linux distros to make sure it isn't it. The bios as updated and I'm sure is not a driver issue it also happens when I'm in the boos menu. I have a dell d630 so every time I've gotten a bad lcd I cross check it with the 630 and so far i've gotten 3 bad lcds from people on ebay. Not to my surprised I've gotten my money back and now the guy even offered to test one and ship me one that works. I received it, but I'm still experiencing the same problem. I've tried 3 different lcd ribbons and nothing what should i do next? I've tried the image in an external monitor and it's just fine. the only problem is with an lcd. My parents have a Dell Latitude D620 and it's about 5 or 6 years old. We use Windows XP on it. The other day my younger brother downloaded a Lego Software that turned out to be some sort of virus. So I disinstalled the Lego software for control panel hoping it would solve the problem. But my mother has McAfee and she tried to install AVG and it said she had to unistall the McAfee but she needs the password from her administrator first.

Right now the computer will work, but after you've been on the internet for about five minutes or gone to about 3 or 4 different pages it will stop working.
Is there a way we can fix this problem without downloading AVG (and how?) or do we have to wait for the administrator's password to come in?

Hi all, great forum you have here...
I have an old(ish) Dell Latitude D620 and I'd like to upgrade the CPU.  The specs are as follows:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 (1.66GHz) CPU
2GB DDR2-800 RAM
60GB OCZ Vertex 2 SSD
Windows 7 Professional

Am I correct in thinking I can upgrade to any 667Mhz-FSB processor?  SO what would be the fastest processor I can fit (I'm thinking Core 2 Duo 7400 or 7600)?
Looking at the compatible products for the Intel 845GM chipset (http://ark.intel.com/products/chipsets/22816) they do, but I thought I'd better check here first before buying.  Would the change from 2MB L2 cache to 4MB affect anything?
Many thanks!

A:Dell Latitude D620 CPU upgrade...

Either of those will work -- just don't pay an excessive amount for one, since the speed boost will be incremental - not dramatic.

That unit has been refurbished by a Dell-authorized shop (as all with the 595B are) so the restore discs cannot be used.
All of the suggestions your tried, are known not to work in that model... The D600 and D620 are the most difficult of all Dells to fix. You will likely need to replace the motherboard with one known to work. Most of the boards on eBay have the same problems you have.

I have an old Dell Latitude D620 with 1.83 GHz CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and 80 GB HDD, and is a 32-bit system. It currently has Windows XP preinstalled on it.I want to upgrade it to a more recent version of Windows, so I have two options, one is the latest Windows 10 (Build 1607) 32-bit and the other is Windows 7 (32-bit).So, can you help me in deciding which is better for the D620? Which version should I install on it for best possible performance?

Probably windows 7 as windows 10 is not supported.  It may work just fine but who knows.

Hello !
I got some troubles with my Dell Latitude D620. WLAN and LAN never worked on this laptop. It's kinda old, about 4-5 years old. It runs Windows XP Professional and I can't connect to my router. My company IT department gave me this laptop with some kind of special software for connecting to Wi-Fi (some Intel program; not driver). All my drivers are installed.
Windows does not recognize any Wi-Fi network. The program detects networks, but it won't let me introduce the passwords. I wrote the password in Notepad and copy-pasted it but it didn't wanted to connect.
Please help me, tell me which drivers should I install or what should I do.
Sorry for bad english.

Hello, good folks,

I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop that I notice freezes up when it gets really hot. Tonight I held it in front of my window air conditioner unit to cool it down and suddenly it worked like a charm. So I wonder if anyone's got any suggestions as to what to do about this. I've seen these laptop desks at stores like Target that have fans in them and I was wondering if they are worth looking into. Do they work? Does anybody have one and have a critique of it, good or bad?

I'm not so sure that the CPU fan is working if I have to hold the computer up to the window AC unit to cool it down enough to get it to work. There's got to be a better way to keep this thing running at optimal temperatures so that it doesn't keep freezing up on me.

I'm all ears for suggestions here. Thanks, folks, you all are most sincerely appreciated!

A:My Dell Latitude D620 laptop gets hot and freezes up

My first guess would be theres a problem with the fan and its going to need replaced.obviously its not supposed to get that hot where you have to put it near an a/c to cool it off.it would be easier and cheaper just to replace the fan then get a desk with a fan.

My Dell Latitude D620 laptop decided to blue screen on me while I was doing some work in Excel. However when I reboot it makes it to the Black screen showing Windows XP loading and I get the following blue screen:

Technical Information:

***STOP: 0X000000ED (0X86B83E30, 0X0000006, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

I try booting into safe mode and all other configurations and get this same message.

I Google the issue and see I probably just need to the chkdsk /r thing. I change the boot order to my CD in setup and put in my Windows XP cd. I click to boot from cd and it begins to enter Windows setup.

Windows setup takes about a minute to go through all of the files it normally loads. However, as soon as it gets to "Setup is Starting Windows" I get a new blue screen that has the following information on it:

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XF76130BF, 0XF7A5F208, 0XF7A5EF08)

*** pci.sys - Address F76130BF base at F760C000, DateStamp 3b7d855c

So I can't get into the repair function which means I can't do anything at this point. Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
