I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Oh the agony of hunting down drivers for a manual re-image!!
Okay I'm a sys admin and I need to reimage a Dell Optiplex 3020. For various reasons I don't want to go into, the PC needs to never ever go onto the internet or even onto the company's domain. I've managed to hunt down all of the drivers and install them, but Device Manager still shows these two items needing drivers:
pci simple communications controllersm bus controller driver
Will any of these graphics cards run on a Dell Optiplex 3020 desktop tower
GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
GeForce GTX 1080
GeForce GTX 1070
GeForce GTX 1060
GeForce GTX 1050
Thanks for reaching out to us.
We see this model of optiplex are only shipped with AMD Radeon card .
And they are not tested with GeForce GTX cards .
But if you have one you can always check .

I'm scratching my head with this one. I'm new to analyzing crash dumps and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. This PC receives a BSOD with the message "Critical Process Died". Here's the text from the analyzed dump.

I have a Dell Optiplex 3020 with Windows 7 and i wonder if i can install any PCIe 10Gbit Ethernet card.
I found the Thecus C10GTR adapter but i cannot understand if can be installed to a PCIe x16 slot
I would think so, it just wouldn't use the full capabilities of the x16 slot. Does your computer not have a free x1 slot?Read other 1 answers
I currently have a optiplex 3020 SFF which has an intel i3-4160T processor in it. I would like to upgrade the processor to and i5 or i7, but cannot find any chart which shows what other processors work in this machine and on the DIH81R motherboard. I would assume that I could at least upgrade to the i5-4590T as Dell advertises that as an option in other 3020's. But interested if there are other options.
Thanks for writing to us.

First.. let me take this opportunity to tell you just how bad Dell support <profane>. I got in to chat. Told them I have updated 6 Optiplex 3020's to Windows 10 and all 6 are locking up. Dell's response? "Sorry we can't help you. Not our problem". What a great company with great support!
So that is the problem. There is obviously a problem with Windows 10 and the Optiplex 3010. Anyone else having this problem?

I want to add a graphics card to my Optiplex 3020. The "small form factor" means I need a half-height card. I was told by tech support that only two cards work: Radeon HD 8490 and HD 8570. The 8490 gets mediocre reviews, and today I was told the 8570 is no longer available (haven't been able to find it online anywhere). I reached sales support and was given other Radeon models that would work, but it turned out all of those are full-height adapters. Can anyone provide the models that will work in my computer? Thanks for any help.
all the HD 7000 and HD 8000 cards from AMD are discontinued and have been replaced by the R7 series card ... you need to find a low profile r7 240 that comes with low profile brackets ... he is the new equivalent of the 8570 ... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150677&ignorebbr=1
it's also important that the graphics card fan does not stick out past the width of the silver part of the card as you have almost zero room between the expansion slot the card goes in and the computer's power supply.
Hello, I am a system administrator and I am going through the painful process of hunting down drivers for a manual reimage of a Dell Optiplex 3020. To be brief, the machine needs bare minimum of just about everything, can never go onto the Internet or even the corporate LAN. Can't seem to find the drivers for the following:
PCI Simple Communications Controller
SM Bus Controller
We have a few OptiPlex 3020 small form desktops that need video cards to support three monitors under Windows 7. Just looking for some help connecting Bluetooth speakers to the Optiplex 3020.
Hitting a few roadblocks.
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Optiplex 3020 doesn't come with any Bluetooth card pre-installed on the computer. May I know if you have installed any add-on Bluetooth card and installed the drivers? If yes, please provide us the model/manufacturer of the Bluetooth card to check the further options.
This kind of surprises me. Early in the Windows 10 game it was obvious there was (and still is) a big problem with the Intel Video Driver for Windows 10 32-bit. Dell has ignored the problem. The computer locks up tighter than a drum. Powering off is the only solution.
The fix is to install an older video driver but every time Microsoft comes out with an update the video drivers gets updated and puts it right back to where it starts locking up again.
This was a year ago and the problem still exists. I am kind of curious why this problem hasn't shown up here. Can anyone say they are running Windows 10 32-bit on a Optiplex 3020 and not locking up?

I'm of course looking for a inexpensive endoscopic camera possibly under $20. E-bay has a few listed but their system requirements read:
"System Requirement: Pentium Computer with 700MHz & Above, 20M HD Space CD ROM Driver, 128MB RAM, Direct X VGA Card"
Will that work on a OptiPlex 3020, Windows 10?
Or what should I be looking for in an endoscopic camera? I'm wanting it to use for coin collecting. Thanks
Some help please as I want to install an SSD in my PC and use it in place of the existing HDD
Where and how should it be mechanically installed?
Besides the SSD what else will I need?
Do I need a caddy if so which one ?
Will the data cable be from the motherboard or the existing HDD?
Will the power be looped from the HDD power - if so which cable will I need?
Are slave and master settings needed?
I've been given a computer in the following state:
- Hard drive was reformatted with a clean install of Windows 7 Pro (same as shipped) which is now showing as not activated.
- I was told that an OEM disc was used to reinstall Windows but it looks like a retail version might have been used instead along with what appears to be a generic key.
- I do not have recovery media and I don't see a COA label on this model.
The computer all original parts and it's my understanding that the activation key is BIOS based. Is there way to activate Windows on the spot without tracking down recovery media, backing everything up, and then reinstalling?
I apologize if I've missed any critical information. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
You can reactivate with OEM SLP usng the ABR program and Dell cert files. Personally however I would perform a complete clean install because it looks like the person who clean installed Windows 7 Pro didn't know what they were doing... See here:
This OptiPlex 3020 is encountering strange problem getting the Windows 10 v1607 or Anniversary update installed. It looks fine in Update and Security as it finished initial install and prompt to "Restart". The subsequent installation process after it's 1st reboot never get pass ...0%. It is suggested that the latest OptiPlex drivers should be installed. So I went to Support.Dell.com and allowed it to auto detect and install latest drivers and software. Several Chipset update seems to have came down and installed without issue. I didn't see any device drivers came down. But the Windows 10 update still failed at "....0%" during the initial reboot. According to Dell, OptiPlex 3020 is tested for Windows 10 v1607 Anniversary update.
1. Does anybody in this Forum know about this issue?
2. How else do I know if required drivers are installed?
Thank you and much appreciate your help.

Check your model name--there is no Inspiron mini tower 3020--but there is an Optiplex microtower, minitower or a small form factor 3020. See the specs for the power supply--
It is not cost effective to upgrade the video these business computers. The psu is small and doesn't have the extra connectors for the card you mention.
We just replaced the office computers with Dell 3020s except for mine which was going to be a 9020. After loading and network connection one of the 3020s sparked up and quit.
To keep the office going I swapped the 3020 HD with my uninstalled 9020 which went well. I contacted Dell and they sent a guy to replace the MB on the dead 3020 which now has the Win 7 (with Win 8 upgrade) HD.
I was going to restore the 3020 with the Win 8 restore cd which shipped with the 3020 so they all would be running Win 8 and call it a spare.
It wants a product key to load from the restore cd that shipped with the computer. Is that because the Win 8 key was in the BIOS of the old board or does it have something to do with the HD now having Win 7 from the other computer.
Would a complete format help or would I then have no OS?
Windows 8 keys are embedded into the Bios - the replacement board does not have an embedded key and you need to contact Dell, again
Or you need to type in your upgrade key - if you have it..
Hi, I might be able to buy a second hand Optiplex mini tower and I would like to install the motherboard etc. of my Optiplex 755 SFF.

I'm running my dell optiplex 3020 with 2 monitors: one connected on the DVI port (with a DVi-HDMI transformer), the other with the VGA port.
Whenever i strat up or restart my PC, the PC is only detecting 1 monitor (the one connected through the VGA port). To have the PC detect the 2nd monitor i always need to unplug the cable and replug it: then it automatically is being detected and works perfect. Both monitors are always in stand-by modus (so should switch on automatically when the PC driving them is being started).
Howcome the system does not detect the 2nd monitor automatically and what do do about it ?

I was planning on buying either a Dell Optiplex 780 SFF or an Dell Optiplex 980 SFF but I would like to know which one will work with Windows XP 64 Bit.
For Windows XP 64 Bit its best to use the somewhat hidden (old ftp website):
This has the old drivers listed of multiple versions including the XP x64 drivers not mentioned on Drivers and Downloads. The new ftp website is slightly broken at present.
I found the Dell System Owner's Manuals on this page. Is that mean the 7040 micro can support max 32GB memory?
Thanks for writing to us.
The system supports max of 16gb (Dell tested).
The link you provided is taking us to Dell 16gb memory and the compatible system list doesn't list optiplex 7040.
Does anyone know the answer to the following for the optiplex 7040 micro?
I have been unable to find this in the documentation so far.
(1) can you have BOTH a 80mm M.2 device and a 2.5" hard drive at the same time?
(2) Can the 80mm M.2 device be a PCIe NVMe device?
Thank you very much...
Just so you know...
I have a 7040M with a 2.5" hard drive in it, and also an M.2 NVMe drive.
It's fast. Stupidly fast...
I bought the NVMe drive third party, for what it was worth (and had to reinstall due to the stupid secure boot stuff going on!).
But it's screaming away on Windows 10...
(Think I took some pics of the interior if it's of any interest!)
Anyone else have a noise issue with the new 7040 micro form factors?
I got a new Micro 7040 last week and it came with a m2 pci-e boot drive, 8GB of DDR4 & I put a 2.5" evo 850 SSD in there too. It's a super fast micro desktop ( gets a passmark score of 3000), but man is it noisy!!!! I've had to hide the desktop on the floor behind my desk to try and muffle the noise.
2 issues combine to make working with this device a very unpleasant audible experience.
1 - The FAN is so very quick to respond to any workload on the system. For example it whines much louder as soon as you do anything...like watch a video or even open a media heavy webpage. As soon as you close the webpage, it gets noticeable quieter.
2 - The pitch of the FAN noise itself is noticeably unstable. More than any other PC fan I have heard. It has 'Whaaaaaa aaa' type noise..and the pitch is all over the place. it's very distracting.
The noise combined with the FAN spinning up and down faster and slower with almost every mouse click combines for a problem I think Dell should address. I may even open a support ticket.
I was hoping other 7040 micro users would respond with their experiences.
Hello all, we have some Optiplex 3040 Micros and have installed the Intel AC 8260 wireless card the same one listed on Dells build page. I have installed the drivers from the Dell downloads page and the OS Win10 64bit sees the hardware just fine. The problem is the wireless card although active does not see ANY wireless networks around it. I have the same issue on 3 new 3040's using 3 different cards. BIOS is updated to the latest 1.4.11.
Has any one used WLAN in the 3040 micro and if so what did it take to get it to work.
We are trying to get a video conferencing solution working on the OptiPlex 3040 Micro, but always get echo on the audio. We have tried updating to the latest audio drivers for the 3040, but that has made no difference.
We have tried the system on a 9020 and with the RealTek drivers (R2.79) for that you get the option for echo cancellation. When it is switched on it works really well. If we try those drivers, both machines are using the ALC3234) the microphone is disabled completely on the 3040.
And help/suggestions would be really appreciated
