E5540 LCD issue with Intel HD Graphics Family

Q: E5540 LCD issue with Intel HD Graphics Family

I've been having some issues with my Intel HD Graphics Family, I have a Latitude E5540 with switchable dedicated nvidia GT 720M. Every time I enable the Intel graphics the screen of the built in monitor turns the back light off, making it impossible to use. It recognises the external monitor by VGA. When connected to VGA, the built in monitor doesn't appear as available, as if only the connected one exists, but if I disable the Intel graphics, then the built in monitor works. Does anyone else have this problem? I really need some help on this issue since I've searched the entire internet and couldn't find anything.
Anyone have a solution?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey everyone, while using the Intel Driver Update Utility I get a message saying I am unable to update my driver because I have a customized computer manufacturer driver. The utility also lists my graphics driver as an Intel (R) Processor Graphics 3000 but when I go to my control panel it says my graphics driver is an Intel (R) HD Graphics Family. What does this mean exactly?

This is what my computer tells me I have:

So is it possible for me to uninstall my current graphics driver and then install the latest Intel version? I'm not really sure where to go from here. Thanks in advance guys, I hope you all have a great holiday!

A:Issue Updating Intel (R) HD Graphics Family

Hello TSSG and welcome to Seven Forums.

Intel has many different series of graphics: 2500, 3000, 4000, etc. Some utilities will simply use the generic designation of "Intel Graphics Family" whenever they detect an Intel driver rather than name a specific version.

When a company like Intel issues a driver, each computer manufacturer is free to customize that driver for their own line of computers. I suspect that Dell did exactly that for its line of Inspiron computers. Because the Intel driver has been customized by Dell, if you try to install the latest and greatest directly from Intel, it could seriously hose your computer. Quick short story:

About a year ago Intel and Windows Update said a new driver was available for my Intel HD 3000 Graphics. I installed it and immediately my Sony Vaio began crashing, hanging, and doing all kinds of weird stuff. Intel and Sony both told me the same thing: never use a non-customized driver if the computer manufacturer had done any modifications to the driver. It took Sony about 6 months to offer their own customized version of the driver. I installed it and haven't had any problems.

So my advice is to wait until Dell does its customizing and then, if you really, REALLY have to get the latest and greatest, get it from Dell. When it comes to drivers, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Is Intel HD Graphics Family better than Intel G41 express chipset?

The name is only Intel HD Graphics Family there isnt a number after it in dxdiag

A:Is Intel HD Graphics Family better than Intel G41 express chipset?

Intel G41 express is the very old, Core 2 equivalent on-motherboard-gpu aka Eaglelake. It only supports up to dx10, it has awful and old drivers, and incomplete opengl support (less apps can run on it). It can idle in recent games like Dota 2 with up to 30fps with everything on low. Key word: idle. Don't even think about playing under more than 15-20fps.

Intel HD Graphics Family is on-cpu-die-gpu aka Sandy Bridge, it's still old now, but does have support for dx11 and opengl, and it has a lot more raw power than x4500(g41), depending on the cpu. It even supports overclocking with sizeable improvements.

Really there is no contest between the two families.

My computer is a Gateway One and like it has an Intel HD Family graphics card.
I update the drivers but it causes minecraft to not work (it says bad graphics card)
It also doesnt allow me to use Photoshop CS6 (i can load it but as soon as i open a photo it wont show photo)
Right now my driver is currently on but when i update it goes to and changes the name from Intel HD Graphics Family to Intel HD Graphics Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.2)
Is there any way to have it fully updated and allow it to have minecraft and photoshop working?

Hello everybody. So I have a Gateway ZX6971 Running windows 8 RP Build 8400
I am having this problem where i cant get minecraft to work. It turns on and starts up, but then the game states that i have a bad graphics driver or openGL. My driver is actually up to date and same for openGL so what can I do to fix this? The driver is actually on what i believe is made for windows 8 because it is now titled Intel(R) HD Graphics Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.2). Now i did a clean instal onto here so my old driver is gone. I recently downloaded it again through softpedia (gateway for some reason only has Nvidia drivers on the page for my computer) and as soon as i load it, it states that it doesnt meet the min. system req..... Basically how can i make minecraft work?

Nope, you didn't install intel video drivers. Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.2 says it's default microsoft driver, not intel's.

Hi there, I upgraded my Aspire S7-392 to Windows 10 a few weeks ago, and while most things seem to be working fine, the driver for the Intel (R) HD Graphics Family display adapter has had the yellow exclamation mark of 'something's wrong' next to it ever since. I'm now unable to plug my laptop into the external monitor I use for work (as nothing happens when I do so), and graphics performance is visibly slowed down (to the point of unusability) when playing even fairly low-demand games. All of which would seem to indicate that there's a pretty major problem with the drivers. I spent literally 10 hours on the phone to Microsoft customer service trying to figure out the issue, but all they could tell me after a fairly intensive investigation was that they didn't know what the issue was, and to wait for driver updates from Acer or Intel. I have the latest driver from the Acer support website installed (although there doesn't seem to be one specifically for Windows 10), and I've rolled back and updated and tried several versions of the drivers from there, but all seem to have the same issue. I also downloaded the Windows 10 drivers from Intel that are supposedly specifically for my processor and graphics setup, but when I try to install them, it says that my computer doesn't meet the requirements (which is pretty confusing when I have the exact hardware the driver is designed for).I've searched these support forums for other Aspire S7 users having similar... 1. Download the "Intel Driver Update Utilty" 2. Go to device manage and uninstall/delete your Intel graphics driver3.  Run the Intel driver update utility.  Your current graphics driver is a custom Acer/Intel  OEM graphics driver.  Thats why it won't let you install it.  If the generic graphics driver that the update Utilty installs doesn't work quite right, then you'll have to go back to the driver that's on Acers website.  If don't want to use the Intel driver update Utilty, then you'll have to download the zip driver file instead of the .exe driver......and then use the "have disk method" to install it. It's probably easier to just use the Intel driver update Utilty.

Hello I have a hp pavilion dv7 with amd 6770m and intel 3000 hd on hp's site i can't find the newest drivers and the most suitable ones can someone help me out to find the right drivers for this

A:Drivers for amd 6700m/intel hd graphics family

The most suitable ones would be those from the HP. Alternatively you can also get the drivers from Intel and AMD's website although they may not be certified for use for your specific laptop.

To get the right drivers you'll need to post the complete HP model number; ie. DV7-1234us. It's probably on the bottom of the machine or underneath the battery.

See, i've just got this HP ProBook and it had Windows7 Enterprise 64 bit.
When i looked to the system information and the dxdiag i saw that it had a 1.7GB VRAM.
When i Installed a game today, it said that it doesn't support the minimum requirements of it , which it was 128mb VRam.

What should i do, I mean is it the fault at the windows 7 64 bit or, enterprise can not recognize it.

Do anyone know this, or had encountered this problem and fixed it.

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 660-4858. Service tag-number JPYXD5J. It originally came with W7, but I installed Vista Ultimate x64 on it. Now there are several drivers not working (when looking in device manager). I managed to solve most of them but there are still two I can not solve:

1. Network Controller. On Dell's website there are only drivers for W7 when looking up this device. According to the UKD ("UnknownDevices") software, the details for this device are:
Atheros Communications Inc
Dell Computer Corp
However, on Dell's website it appears to call the WLAN adapter (which I assume this 'network controller' is?) Dell DW1506 WLAN 802.11 b/g/n . Version of that driver is, A01, but it's only for Windows 7.
Any suggestions how I should find the latest driver for this device, for Vista??

2. Intel(R) HD Graphics Family (Dell's driver site calls it "Intel Graphics Controller" and "Intel UMA driver"). I actually did download drivers for this, supposedly for Vista. However, not thru Dell's site (they only have the driver for W7 and W8). But still there is an exclamation mark next to it in device manager, and every time I turn the computer on, this message is displayed on the icon tray:
Incompatible display adapter has been disabled.
At least one display adapter on the system has been disabled because its driver is not compatible with the driver for the VGA adapter.
What exactly does this mean? Does it mean the actual mo... Read more

After clean installing Windows 10 version 1607 build 14393  I got the following in the updates history :
Intel - Other hardware - Intel(R) 8 Series SMBus Controller - 9C22
Intel Corporation driver update for Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
both failed to install nevertheless other updates and cumulative software were installed successfully .
In the Device Manager I find those drivers installed in their places but for the first there is no way I can know whether I have the latest version or not.
Plus there are some more pci bridges which when they get updated from the Device Manager they change name and move upwards .
How do I handle this? Shall I force update all those drivers in the System Devices category or just leave everything as it is now in the screenshot?

Hi alphabetagaga,
Using the nvidia control panel - select manage 3d settings - on global settings - select preferred graphics processor as high performance NVIDIA processor and choose apply - see the pic for reference only - http://bit.ly/1ImbYvi
Also. select the option set physx configuration - select the GeForce card applicable and apply - see pic for reference only - http://bit.ly/1eT87ul
This should render the any applications to use high performance / video memory from the nvidia card. However, this is software controlled. As advised by ejn63 - Intel card will physically still be the primary card. After you make these changes, the nvidia will be logically primary.

Is this the first time are you trying the VGA port?
You have tried almost everything we would suggest (updating video drivers, bios, different monitor and cables etc). But as the issue is still the same the only thing we can think of is hardware failure.

Hi there -

I am having an issue with my laptop shutting down without warning. The screen will flicker and flash to black several times; a box appears to say there is an issue with Intel graphics, though it doesn't stay up long enough for me to make note of it. The computer then momentarily flashes to a blue screen that gives details about how the computer is shutting down to protect itself (again, not enough time to make note), and then it restarts. This has been occurring 3-4 times daily.

I have done a full system virus scan, and nothing has been detected.

I am using an Acer Aspire 5315 with Windows 7.

I don't know which driver you have tried to update, Intel family usually denotes chipsets, the one you want is a graphics driver.

Sounds like you have a proprietary system, probably built by dell or hp.
They sometimes change stuff in the chipsets to save costs.
It's likely the update will not apply for you because only the one provided by the manufacturer of your system will.

The mouse and stuff still works and I can close the program. Here is the message I recieve.I get it everytime I start a call in Skype, or run something a bit demanding... I never got this message in Windows 8, probably because it was the right driver, but I don't recall updating any Intel graphics drivers after I got to W10. The strange part, is that Intel Driver Update Utility tells me that installing their software update for this GPU won't work becuase I have a custom driver from Lenovo. Is that correct? Any ideas? Heard of any updates anywhere? Thanks in advance

I have downloaded the drivers for the graphics card and for the chipset directly from Dell by entering the service tag and have rebooted my computer several times with no success. I have even had Windows search for the latest update and It says I have the latest driver installed. I also have a warning triangle on Intel (R) Management Engine Interface. Welcome to Seven Forums.
Go into device manager and see if your monitor is listed.
If it is listed as pnp. I would suggest going to Dell to see if their is a.inf file (driver) for it and install it.

Installing the .inf file should get your monitor recognized and this will allow it to run it's native resolution.

Hello, I am having a screen flickering issue for some time now and I have narrowed down the issue to my graphics cards and settings.

I have an Asus x73s Laptop with both Intel HD* Graphics 3000 and an Nvidia 610m GPU.

The screen flickering I experience is when I am on my windows 7 desktop. It doesnt matter if I have any programs open or none at all my screen usually flickers. Sometimes it can go hours without doing this. I have no external display available to connect it to through HDMI to check if it happens on an external display.

I have sent my laptop in for repair under warrenty for this before and they said it was not an issue with my screen after a comprehensive hardware test and is a graphics or driver issue. But because the repair depot also sucks balls their solution was to backup my files, wipe and restore my laptop... That fixed it for a few months but the flickering is back.

I have gone through my Nvidia Control Panel and made sure my Nvidia 610m is set to be the priority GPU my laptop uses and have turned off the power saveing settings on the Intel Graphics control panel as i almost always have my laptop plugged in anyways.

The strangest thing I have only just noticed today is there is no screen flicker when playing games or when a game is alt+tabbed in the background.

Currently as I am writing this post I have launched Company Of Heros via Steam and then Alt + Tabbed back to my desktop. When I tab back and exit the game my screen will st... Read more

A:Screen Flicker issue with Intel HD Graphics 3000

Hi would be nice to see if it happens on an external monitor. can you bring your laptop to a friends or relatives to test it out? sounds to me it could be the cable from the motherboard to the screen.

Since I installed the Intel Video Driver set Lenovo released on 4/19/2017, I've had an annoying flicker appear for other windows when moving the mouse across certain regions of a Google Chrome window (wierd, right?). This only seemed to appear after I switched out my 2 Dell 24" 1920x1280 displays for a single Lenovo X1 27" 4K display. I've tried a number of configuration changes in an attempt to eliminate it, but it seems the only thing that  has improved matters is an upgrade to the latest Intel HD Graphics 530 driver, version The version of the driver provided by Lenovo was I've only been running the updated driver for a couple of hours, but the issue hasn't shown up since. I'll report back if it crops up again.

I've been getting this issue since I updated my motherboard BIOS from it's initial version, which I'm going to assume was F4 as it's been a while but I truly don't remember, to F7 and an F8a BIOS Gigabyte support gave me to try and resolve issues with graphics card compatibility.

It seems that whenever the intel graphics accelerator on my Core i5 4670K is disabled, set to a power saving mode, or has intel HD graphics drivers installed, I'll get these freezing crashes, usually within 30 minutes of either booting into Windows or installing intel HD graphics, that require a force reboot. When this happens, and I press my hard reset button, my computer will shut down for a few seconds before starting up again, much like when updating a BIOS or maybe overclocking the CPU.

Now, I've been safe from this issue if I just leave the IGP enabled constantly and don't install drivers, but I guess I finally got off my butt and decided to ask around about this issue, as this seems to be subject to me and my setup. This issue has persisted through a PSU upgrade, and through Windows 8.1 to 10.

I bought this laptop for my mother around 2 months ago, and up until she moved house recently, she always had it plugged in to an external monitor via VGA. When she moved house and the laptop was unplugged, I'm not sure if display settings were changed and the laptop had been turned off, and whether this is the cause of my problem, but now the laptop doesn't recognise it's own screen, and says that a monitor is the primary display when plugged in via HDMI. I think that the issue is that I need to re-install the graphics driver, but I am not sure which one to download and install. There are 4 options on the HP support website: - AMD/Intel Switchable High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver (American, International)  - Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver (American, International)- Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver - Broadwell/Skylake (American, International)  - Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver - Bay Trail-M (American, International) I am pretty sure it is not the first one, as this laptop is Intel rather than AMD, but from there I am not sure which of the other 3 is the correct one. I have downloaded the second one, but I don't want to try and install it in case I lose all function from the laptop. Any help would be appreciated, cheers!

A:HP 250 G4 Windows 10 Intel i5 Laptop Graphics Driver Issue

Hi: You should be able to press the F4 key to toggle the display you want to see. Just keep pressing it until you get the notebook display to show up. The graphics driver depends on what processor your notebook has. Bay Trail is for the notebooks with Pentium/Celeron processors and the Broadwell/Skylake is for the notebooks with Intel 5th and 6th generation Core processors.

As a follow up to my previous post In reviewing other sites, it appears that the start of this problem for me occurred around the same time that Microsoft did their major upgrade to Windows 10 in the middle of November. To big of a coincidence! Apparently with this new upgrade, all prior updates to Windows 10 were cleared and no longer are listed, to explain my earlier comment regarding update history. For the record, my Windows 10 now reports as     Edition:                Windows 10 Home    Version:               1511    OS Build:             10586.29    System Type:    64-bit operating system, x-64-based processor

Hi, I recently got new "gaming" laptop - HP Pavilion 15-bc200nc. Having issues with GPUs - mostly when my external monitor is plugged in via HDMI cable ( most of the time I am using external monitor). The most annoying for me is that I can`t fullscreen videos in windows 10 when I`am working on my external monitor.  I can do full screen only when I lower the resolution on my external from 1920 x 1080 to 1768 x 992. Then sometimes when I am running a program or game and try to watch videos the video freezes. Device manager is showing that my external monitor is using only NVIDIA GPU and my original laptop display is using Intel - I feel like GPUs are somehow glitching between each other. My external monitor - asus vx228h Did a lot of research about it all over the internet and couldn`t find the solution. Installed new drivers for both NVIDIA and Intel, downgraded drivers.Tried to downgrade to win7 with no success due to no drivers for OS win7 ( very dissapointing btw but thats another of my forum posts  - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/HP-Pavilion-Gaming-15-bc200nc-do... ). Any suggestions how to solve this problem?  Is there a way to completely disable Intel GPU and let laptop using ONLY Nvidia on both original laptop display and external monitor? - I found here on forums that one guy managed to do it but didn`t provide the guide. Thank you!

You have to sometimes take what people say they do here with a grain of salt. No it is switchable graphics and you cannot completely disable the integrated Intel video. You might try a different HDMI cable if you have one.

Pretty tired of having outdated graphics cards that can run only basic specs of old games etc, so wondering if it's possible to upgrade or replace an Intel G33/G31 Chipset graphics card?

Running a..
Zoostorm Intel Celeron E3500 2.7Ghz CPU
Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family
64bit System

And not entirely sure about the PSU... Haven't mustered up the stones to open it up and take a peak under the hood yet... I'm not very tech savy with the hardware unless it's relatively basic...

Any help would be really appreciated! And if anyones had any experience with this model at all that would be a big help as well as I've found it suprisingly hard to find a good detailed description about this exact model.

A:Upgrading Intel G33/G31 Chipset Family

I had one of those some years ago ... Got it from Argos it did not have any expansion slots .. Your Model could be different the only way to find out is open it up .. Take some pics and Post them ... Your PSU should be 300w ..

Good evening! Is this a video card? I have a problem with my laptop, my laptop screen goes weird after 2hours. I already brought my laptop to the computer shop, they said that the memory is not working or bad. Then, i bought a new ram. but the screen goes crazy even though i bought a Ram. is my video card bad? when i go to display adapters under device manager it says Intel (R) 945 Express Chipset Family. I've attached some pictures, on how my laptop screen looks like. I need your reply. Godbless!

A:Intel (R) 945 Express Chipset Family

Welcome to seven forums: Looks like an overheating problem. I would first try some canned compressed air and blow out the exhaust and intakes. Of course after the system has been shut down to cool down. But as bad as it is it could be a bad card, make sure yo have all the latest drivers. But since this appears after a couple of hours i would hedge a bet it is overheating, which may have caused your card to go bad as well. My opinion. fabe

if you have this graphic just throw it into recycle because:
1-this is a list of games from (Intel) that the graphic support but what support you fill that you play Play station in 1997 not modern computer game

Mobile Intel? 965 Express Chipset Family - Game playability on Microsoft Windows Vista*

2-and you can check your computer abilities to run specific game
it will your check your computer hardware (cpu-ram-graphic) to tell you that your computer can run this game (donot worry this site does not contain any virus)
I used it many times

Can You Run It?
