I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The computer's a year old, running XP, and my boyfriend and I have no idea what's wrong with it (it's his). I'd put in hardware support but I don't know which piece of hardware may be corrupted, exploding as we speak, or what.

It began last night. He's done this before -- he has two monitors, one meant for a TV (I believe) and another old computer screen. Normally it runs on the TV one because it's bigger. He switched to the older one to show me how he can adjust the settings so that it's all vertical. That was great and dandy and we didn't expect any issues. He's done it before and it really isn't doing much to the computer.

Later, after midnight, he goes to switch everything back to normal. First, the computer acts like the monitor is there but that it can't do anything -- it tries to go into sleep mode or something. Then I suggest he unplug, shut down, plug things back in normally, and power back up. This appears to work.

I was a bit happy then, until we got to the XP loading screen. It's going... and then after, it flashes, then goes black. Nothing comes up, nothing does anything.

And so the three hour saga of last night begins. We restart, we spam F8, we get into safe mode, he disables Nvidia but can't open the application. Nor does his mouse function in safe mode (I know some don't, but it really doesn't help the situation). I've used my laptop to bring up shortcut keys and we're functioning through everything that way. He restarts after disabling Nvidia, an... Read more

Hello forum,
So I just updated my Nvidea graphics card, and for some reason after restarting my laptop, in order to install these files to the system, the "System Thread Exception Not Handled" Blue screen error flashed on my screen, and later redirected me to an automatic repair screen, which attempted to fix this issue.
I ended up restarting the laptop on safe mode, uninstall my Nvidea graphics card and completely reinstall it from scratch.
But for some reason it keeps giving me the same error each time I restart my laptop.
After some research online, apparently there's an issue with Avast and Nvidea?
You will find attached the SF Diagnostic Tool grab all option files needed to view the issue at hand.
Any help would greatly be helpful.
Many are saying that I've not been installing the corrent drivers, but that's not possible, as it's directly from the MSI website (GT70 0NE) linked to the official Nvidea website, saying that the driver includes my graphics card (680M).
While other people are saying that maybe Avast is causing some issue towards the graphics card?
I have the Avast 2014 Professional Antivirus.
Laptop Specs:
Windows 8.1
MSI Dragon Edition 2, GT70 0NE, Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz 64 bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTX680M
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Any help would greatly be appreciated, I'm currently running my laptop without the nVidea Graphics Card Drivers, and seems to be fine so far.

Hi guys i've got a problem with my toshiba qosmio g20. I've had it running sweet on xp and i recently upgraded it to vista ultimate lite. It for some reason won't read my graphics card geforce 6600. it says the best driver is already installed for you called standard graphics adapter but thats wrong so i can't play games so im gonna put it back to xp but to do that is a mission. this laptop has raid harddrives so I need to install a driver. so i press f8 or whatever it is(can't remember) to enter the menu thing (this is at the blue screen before you enter the partition menu) it comes up with something like "please enter you manufactuers disk into the A:" but i don't have a floppydrive built in to be able. i've tryed usb floppydrivebut it doesn't read as A: so can use on of them. I've heard about useing nlite to put the drivers in a cd with the rebootstuff but i can't getit to read the drivers too. it was easy enough going to vista as you could insert a flash drive with drivers on it.

Please help me fix this or ill have to take it into a shop and pay them.

Well I just found this forum today, so I decided to ask this question.

About a year ago, I had to system restore, because my computer just kept FSODing on me. When I went through the system restore process with Dell, at the end of the process I got an error. I don't quite remember what it was, as it was so long ago.

Ever since then, my computer has been completely without sound. I have tried everything from installing/reinstalling/uninstalling drivers, to the most simplistic, such as checking if my speakers work, or are connected.

So far, nothing has brought me any closer to figuring out what this problem could be. I am pretty sure that somehow, my sound card (its an integrated one) has just fried or something, but I really dont know.

So... is my sound card busted? Or are my drivers just not working for some reason?

Thanks for your help in advance.

A:Sound Card issue, or driver issue?

System restore . . .

System restore or system recovery? Did wipe the old operating system out and reinstall everything from scratch (system recovery) or did you use Windows' system restore to backdate the configuration. (Frankly, I think the choice these of terms by the industry are very confusing.)

Assuming system recovery and assuming the sound worked before and quit after system recovery, I'm for a misconfiguration. But, the simpler fix might be a cheap add-in sound card.

So. I had a 64gb micro SD with music in for my mp3. Acquired some more music on a usb from my brother (legitimately bought) and though hey! I'll sort all my music out to folders and delete duplicates. You know how it gets. So after this. Thought I'd get a 256gb micro SD and put all my music on this (we're talking 59gb). So started the transfer. Said 10 hours. Yh yh fine. Then at the end. All the folders were there. But we're empty. So formatted it. Moved the folders bit by bit alphabetically. At the end as i safely eject it. It says corrupted and the same folders there with no content. So thought Instead of transferring from my laptop to my micro SD. I'll bypass the laptop and go from my external HDD to the micro SD. Transferred my music to the HDD then over the the micro SD. No problem first stage. And a faster transfer to the micro SD. And yet again when i eject it and insert into my mp3. Only 800 odd songs there instead of 12000 and the folders are again present but empty. Please help. I've wasted hours of my life on this!

ok i just recently have been having problems with any thing graphics related. Ok first off, the other day i was playing need for speed : hot pursuit 2 and it all of a sudden froze, the music was still goin, but then that stoped, and then nothing was doing ne thing, but all of a sudden it started going again, and i kept playing. So that happened a few times and it pissed me off so i stoped playing. So now today i went to play wartcraft III - Throne of darkness and on the main screen as i was selecting an option it just froze up like need for speed did. Now i thought this was really bad and i started to get angry. So i quit and then restarted, but that didn't fix any thing it just froze a little while into the game.

So now i decided to re install war3 and the expansion but nope still nothing. Then i tried using differnet drivers fo my vid card and still no. So I started to try out other games, such as cs and still that game froze up once i was actually playin in the game. Then i quit, did restore thing to an earlier point and still same thing happened.

Now tonight after all my struggles i reinstalled windows, totally new(format and everything). With no luck it still froze up

Now i have been talking to other ppl and they say this has to be a graphics card problem, now i have a geforce TI 4200 and have enjoyed it performance, untill now. IT is only one year old so it shouldn't be dying of age yet.

Is this a hardware issue you think and the card is just dying of old... Read more

I have a computer with ASUS A7V333 MB. The monitor went dead one day and found that I'd neglected to keep the dust cleaned out and found the vid card fan in pretty bad condition. I cleaned everything out inside, then rebooted, but the monitor was not working again, getting "no Signal" on the screen or such. I looked at the vid card fan and noticed it was not moving, so used my finger to nudge it and it started up and the monitor worked. Had to do this every day upon starting up. I found a tech article on how to take apart the fan to clean it and relube the shaft, but was unable to do this. I shopped around for a reasonably cheap card and got a GeForce 6200 LE 512mb AGP 8x card. When I put it in, nothing happened. I've checked the monitor and its plug/pins, as it works in my other computer. I read some other articles about changing something related to the vid card in bios, but I can't get to the screen to do that.

I'm wondering if there are any other ideas of what might be the problem without taking it into the shop, as I am unemployed and very tight on money. I've got sensitive data and projects on my computer that I have not backed up and am not wanting to take into the tech shop. My fault for not backing up the last month's work. Can't get to the internet. I think my internal onboard one is bad do I bought another one. These are the things I have tried. I tried switching out the cable for a new one, I tried putting the cable from my computer from my PC to the modem directly and no go. I reset both my modem and router waiting minute or 2 in between. I tried a new card. I had linksys on the phone trying multiple things like disabling my NIC card, doing a repair, install drivers from their site over internet. I tried pinging my router to no avail.

I am at a loss. That is why I am wondering if I put in my XP cd and try and do a system restore? I don't know if that comes set up to run by default or is that something I manually would of had to of done because I didn't. If so, would re-installing the OS do the trick? I just did an image copy of my OS this past sunday with Acronis true image 2009. Should I try that? what do you think?

Hello- just got a new Radeon 3870. When I installed, I just downloaded the latest ATI drivers instead of using the bundled CDs, as they are usually out of date. Everything works fine, except in my device manager I get an unknown PCI device that I can only assume is the new card. I guess it isn't too big a deal, but I would like to make windows recognize the drivers if possible. Thanks!

Oh and it also claims to have an unknown multimedia controller, but my sound works fine (audigy 4). Maybe its the onboard sound controller?

A:New ATI card issue

Multimedia controllers are usually sound or TV adapters or similar.
Check the display adapters in device manager to see if it is listed.
It may be that the secondary display on the card doesn't have the driver
installed, but I would guess it is something else.
Right click on the uknown device and click properties.
Click the driver tab and click update driver.
Let windows search for a driver.
If it's the video card,it should find it.

Hi, recently my laptop's sound card has been making a really strange crackling noise and I don't know what to do. It is a Conexant AC-Link Audio card. I've updated the drivers with Windows new update for it and it didn't help, thus I speculate what could be causing it. These are the two things which I think could be causing the card to make the noise (I know it isn't the speaker as I plugged in other speakers and they also had the noise). I've also disabled and re-enabled the card and Device Manager isn't coming up with any issues.

- When I went through airport security last week, when the laptop had to go through the bag check thing, it caused it as the laptop was on standby (the lid closed)

Hello TSG.

First off, I think I should start by saying my PC specs:
OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2, .Net Framework 1.1 and 2.0, 32 bit
Processor: AMD Sempron, 2600+, 1.6GB GHZ
RAM: 512mb + 1GB tablet
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon x550, 256MB (I know, old)
Hard Drives: C: Total - 30GB, Free - 8GB; D: Total - 45GB, Free - 44GB;
I've been having some trouble since last friday.

I thought of adding all what I did, but it'd be long and unnecesesary. I'll just post what I did after formating.
I was getting some blue screens saying that ati2dvag.dll was stanked on a infinite loop. After a lot of unsuccessful fixes, I formatted my Hard Drives (which explains why I have so much free space).

Now after I installed the ATI latest driver, my computer keeps crashing. It doesn't crash on secure mode though. I don't see any blue screen now though, the computer just freezes, screen goes black for a second, and when the image comes back, the graphic card is not working right anymore (I know this because the image refreshes much slower). Or it just freezes permanently.

I tried older display drivers, like 8.1 and 9.1, HECK, even 5.2. None of them made a difference.

I'm so tired... I've spent hours and hours on this... I also lost everything I had when I formatted...

Please, help me...

Hi all. I'm having issues with my graphics card. Everything on my computer runs fine unless I try to play a game. So in an attempt to find out what was wrong, I ran DXDIAG and found that under the display tab it shows no device, all the specifications say "n/a," and it says my device isn't compatible with Direct3D (which I know it is, or was anyway). Why won't it show my graphics card? I'm pretty sure I have an nVidia GeForce, but I'm not sure. I think if I can solve this problem and update the graphics driver I can get Direct3D working again. Hi
I have a problem with what I think is my graphics card. It started yesterday when I tried to play GTA San andreas, however the menu was completely black with grey boxes where the buttons usually are.
So this morning I tried restarting, to no avail.
After the restart I tried to play Rainbow six vegas. The game started up fine, but the menu buttons shows boxes instead of writing and all objects simply had a white texture. I also tried ghost recon advanced warfighter and killing floor after rainbow six, and these worked
I then tried a system restore (I recently had my computer reformatted and so restored to the earliest date), however this did not fix the problem, and now no games work. Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, although working before, now runs fine, however everything is dark and the textures are messed up.
I have also tried updating directX to 9.0c however it seems as though it is already up to date.
My graphics card is an Radeon Mobility HD 3450
Im not sure what do do, so any help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I get a time out when trying to access your link.

Windows will get drivers (on line) for many devices and this sounds like what it did for your sound device.

If you are going to use this rather than the existing sound you have and it's integrated (on the motherboard) you should disable the integrated sound in the BIOS to avoid conflicts.

The configuation for my machine is:

I know this doesn't make sense. But trust me, it does happen to me. Would it be a conflict between the motherboard and the video card? How come the video card works fine with other applications but games?

I had recently bought a ATi Radeon 9000 64MB DDR PCI Video Card online to play a game on my computer. First when I put it in a slot the resolution was low and everything was huge and when I tried to change the resolution in the control panel it didn't change anything. Then I installed the software that came with it thinking that might solve the problem and once it got done it asked me to restart. So I restarted and then it went past the computer loading screen then got stuck on a black screen and it wouldn't get passed it. So I opened up my computer and put it in a different slot, this time it started up.. got to my desktop and everything was still huge but my start bar was gone. Restarted again.. same deal. The card came with a cord, one end hooks up to the card and the other has a yellow head (Looks like those cords you would plug into your TV: Red, Yellow, and White). But I have no idea where that would plug into inside my computer.. maybe thats the problem? Any suggestions?

My Computer Specs are:
Windows XP - Home Edition
1984 RAM
~2.2 GHz Processor

Hi,

Any half-demanding game (which previously my gfx card had no problem with) is now getting lots of errors. The best way for me to describe them is as mono-colour shapes, often protruding from moving objects in the game. For example, I play a lot of Civ and the workers will often develop long spikes out of their arms, stretching right across the screen.

Or sometimes, there are blocks of large pixels of different colours. These issues are annoying but sometimes the issue will make the game unplayable, for example sometimes most of the screen will go black or there will be a huge shape emerging from the scenery. Below is an example from the Medieval II - Total War Demo.

I ran 'HWmonitor' and the max temp for my gfx card was mid-70s which apparently isn't that high.

Someone else mentioned it might be the GPU, and I think that wouldn't be worthwile fixing (?). I've only had the card eighteen months.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to get a new one, because I want to get one in time anyway. I'm already struggling to run some of the newest games (Crysis and the Call of Honour expansion, at least).

I'm rather lazy so if its looking like its not fixable then I might just go ahead and get a new one rather than attempting a series of fixes and/or tests.

Thanks for reading and for all the good advice I know I'll receive.

A:Issue with graphics card

it should solve u're problem to get a better video card, as the 7900 GT is getting to be an old video card and will not run newer games well.

Hi Guys,

I am more confirming the probable here rather than an out and out question but...

Half a pint of Bulmer's Pear Cider met my laptop earlier today. We had sound this morning and after the incident we did not have sound.

To be more specific, the sound out of the speakers worked this morning - they no longer do. Headphone sound still works all fine and dandy.

Obviously the task is to get the speakers working again.

My suspicions are that the circuit between the speakers and the sound card has become shorted by the Cider. Solution? Is there one or am I doomed?

It should be noted that this happened when the laptop was on and using Windows 7. I normally use Ubuntu 10.4 - went to that and the same problem so definitely a hardware issue.

Thanks for any suggestions in advanced.

ok so i have a GeForce4 MX 440, and i am trying to get it to run on a 500mHz P3 Hewlett Packard 8565c. but i cannot find a driver set that will actually run anything besides a desktop app. every game a run freezes at the loading screen or just freezes up during the ad screens. i have tried the 56.72, 56.64, 44.03.....can someone point me in a better direction?

A:Video Card Issue

Might not be the video drivers. You may need to update the AGP controller drivers for your HP computer. They are typically GART drivers.

Surprise surprise, HP doesn't offer any updated drivers on their site (that I could find...) They do tell us that it is a Via Pro chipset, so we can probably just use the VIA 4 in 1 drivers; however, other sites claim that it has an ASUS P2B-VT with an Intel BX440 chipset.

Please verify which chipset is on your motherboard. Then I can suggest updating the chipset drivers and possibly the BIOS on the board.

Hello i have been searching the web for a couple months to try to find a way to solve this problem. My system specs are as follows
Pentium 4 2Gigahurtz
512 Ram
Nvidia Geforce 4 440se gfx card

I just recently reformatted and put in a new motherboard...
The occurs whenever i am playing any steam based games ie counter-strike or Day of Defeat and also at random times when im using my computer such as opening windows explorer and going to google or when typing in my password when logging onto my computer. I have tried a different gfx card and the problem still persists and i dont want to put down another 200$ for a new monitor unless i really have to. My monitor is a P92 6557 03n 19" Ibm monitor. I run it at 60 hz in 1280/1024 resolution so my refresh rate shouldnt be a problem i do overclock it when playing cs but to a managable rate... (at 800/600 it can run at 144 hz without trouble) and i only run it at 100. I have seen many people complaining about this same problem and no real answers and id like to know first if anyone has experienced this before and second if they have any fixes that might actually work. Ive heard it might be a power issue or a chord issue and ive checked all of my chords running from the computer to the wall monitor to wall and computer to monitor making me think that thats not the problem. Ive also just reset all my bios settings and then double checked to make sure all power saving features on my computer have been turned off please ... Read more

So the other day i was on my computer and i went to open Minecraft, i logged in and then when it went to open and all the sudden different colored pixelated lines came across the screen so i shut my computer off and waited a bit then when i turned it back on it was fine untill i tried to open Minecaft again, then the lines got thicker and changed from horizontal to vertical. I shut my compter off again, waited and this time the lines were there as soon as i turned it on, so i started it up in safe mode and tryed to run a virus scan but it only ran for a second and said there was no threats found. So i tried to start it normally and everytime i did it would bluescreen after it logged in. Then i tried to reinstall windows with my windows 7 disc and it got about half way through then bluescreened and then when i turned my computer back on everything was bigger and i could only see about 1 3rd of the screen and i cant see the things that i can do (all i could see was safe mode). So im wondering if its my video card and if it is i have a spare one i can try but i dont know if it will screw up the spare, and since its half way through installing windows will that affect the card at all? By the way my computer is a Gateway DX series with a ATI Radeon Premium HD 4600 series graphics card

A couple of days ago my neighbors computer just stopped being able to go on the Internet.
They have a DSL connection and 2 nic cards, one onboard and one PCI.

The computer is a Dell Diminesion 4500, running Windows XP SP2.
The problem was that when you plugged the cat5 (from DSL) into either or ethernet port. The status of the connection was "aquiring network address" and it just hangs there.

I checked the DSL (with customer service as well) and thats working fine, the nic cards are both working properly.

However , NO INTERNET.

when i attempt to repair, it states that it can not repair the connection due to NOT being able to obtain an IP addy.

I ran a Ipconfig/renew and recieve the following error: "RPC Server unavailable"

I uninstall/reinstall both ethernet connections with the new drivers. Still no working.....

Then i notice my nieghbor say for a good month or so he has had no anti-virus or runs cleansing programs. Could this be why this has happened?
Restores have been done, and no success. I am trying to save it before going into a reform (assuming that will even work).
Any ideas? Please help.

Hi There,

I'm trying to figure out if my sound card has gone bad. I have the red X of death on my speaker icon and the message "no audio output device is installed".

I have no option in the Device Manager for sound, video, and gaming devices.

I have no drivers on the machine and when I try to install the appropriate one, I'm told I have no device to install it on.

I'm assuming that the sound card has just finally died, however due to the frequent problem with Windows updates and the red X of death on the speaker icon, I figured I'd ask one of you more seasoned IT peeps.

Machine is an IBM thinkcentre A70z

Thanks.

Appreciate some assistance.

Nephew has a Creative Labs Sound Blaster CT 4810 Sound card installed on a PC running W98SE.

When the PC starts, after the Windows logo, but before the desktop comes up, a message comes up saying:

"Creative SB PCI
The SB PCI interrupt has been routed incorrectly by the system. Audio PCI inactive. Use automatic settings in Device Manager. Press any key..."
When he brings the PC to my house, it runs like a charm. When he takes it home, the message keeps coming up. All else remains the same.

Any ideas of why the interrupt is routed incorrectly by the system?

A:Sound Card Issue

sounds like a device conflict. When he is at your house something is not connected that is when it's at home.

Try the sound card in a different pci slot, that should force a different irq for the sound card.

Hello everyone!I am desprate and have done so manny stuff to fix this problem, but with no success.I have Lenovo Z50-70 notebook with intel i5 4210 processor, 8GB of RAM, NVIDIA geforce 840M(which seems to be the problem), Samsung evo 850 250GB SSD... The problem is that whenever i try to run some games, windows crash down and i get a famous blue screen... Sometimes, and recently very often this happens even in normal use of laptop when surfing etc. It started to really botherd me and i don't know what to do... I had no other choice so i had to in my device manager disable nvidia graphic card. Since i did that laptop works great, but i cant use my nvidia graphics card - can't play any games because my integrated intel graphics card is to weak...I'll write here one of the error messeges i have had on blue screen:Video Scheduler Internal Erroris the most common and i get that in 90% of errorr cases. I have all the newest drivers, tryed doing disk scan and disk check like i read on some forums it might help, i installed even new clean windows, but nothing helps... If someone knows solution please help!and yes, i use windows 10 64 bit and sorry for my english.Cheers!

I bought an Ultra ATA/133 PCI controller card to unlock the full capacity of my Maxtor 250 GB HD, and after I installed the controller card, I turned the computer on and got an error at the boot-screen that says the controller card isn't being initialized. I bypassed the error at first to install the driver for the card anyway, but everytime I reboot it's still there. I've tried downloading & installing Windows XP SP1 to address this problem, but it didn't fix it either. I've tried switching the controller card to a different PCI slot as well, but same error.

A:Ultra ATA/133 PCI card issue

Does the computer work? If yes, just let it be - it's not a real error. If not, then you have to look in BIOS setup to enable booting from off chip IDE controller. I think HPs have an option for that under "Boot" settings. Disabling the onboard IDE controller altogether wouldn't hurt either.
