TPM update issue on Carbon X1 5th - Windows keeps telling to update TPM firmware

Q: TPM update issue on Carbon X1 5th - Windows keeps telling to update TPM firmware

Hello, I have Carbon X1 5th (20HR) running Windows 10 pro (updated). Altought I followed the instructions here - https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cy/en/downloads/ds120390 (This is the page for Lenovo users who wish to update TPM firmware) - and installed the "BIOS Update Utility for Windows 10" version 1.33, Windows still keeps telling me to update the TPM firmware driver. In BIOS it shows that I have TPM ver 2.0, enabled. Since Windows kept telling me to update the TPM driver, thanks to Google I found out that there is a tool created by Lenovo called "TPM Firmware Update Utility -ThinkPad" (It is worth noting that this tool is not mentioned on the instruction page). I downloaded the tool, but can't understnad how to use it (assuming that I should use it at all, because this tool is not mentioned on the TPM instructions page). Could you please help me to solve the TPM issue described above? Is there a way to check what version do I have? Thanks in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi there,  I would really appreciate help in relation to this ongoing error. I am prompted by Vantage on regular basis to update the SSD firmware from 6L7Q to 7L7Q. Using Lenovo Storage firmware update tool 1.103. Fails every time, has been like this for months so I am not expecting an auto update fix.  Tries to do it, gets to reboot, and then the error below appears.  "software condition is not ready to update due to some condition" I have also downloaded from Lenovo website manually, and have run the zipped version, with same result. I have looked up Samsung SSD drivers directly and there is no options for this drive. Has anyone had similar issue? Please let me know if you have a fix.  Many thanks.

Hello all, So it looks like this "issue" has been resolved. The 7th Gen X1's need to have the ECP upgraded to at least 1.05, as the documentation states. This however doesn't make sense to me. How could Lenovo ship, from the factory, a 7th Gen X1 Carbon with Firmware version 1.13 and ECP version 1.02? According to the table below this should not even be possible. In the "resolved" threads I see the comments (and I'm paraphrasing) say "This is not actually an issue - the devices need version x.xx of the ECP to run the Firmware Updater with the silent parameter".  We are in a bind trying to deploy Windows 10 to thousands of end users and the only available device right now for us is the 7th Gen X1. We have had to put our order on hold to work through these issues. Our rep was unaware that this was an issue. An escalated phone call brought in two other resources; a manager of an engineering team, and some type of manager of enterprise solutions of Windows 10 deployments. None of these employees have any idea (as of this week) that this is an issue or was an issue. So Lenovo is shipping out devices with Firmware versions that do not match the ECP version as stated in the table below? How is this even possible? And there is no automated solutions? Does this mean my technicians will manually need to update the firmware to get the ECP to 1.05+ on THOUSANDS of devices? This has a massive cost associated with it. The aforemationed "...manager of enterprise solution... Read more

A:Unable to Update Firmware Silently - 7th Gen X1 Carbon

I have the same issue as well.   You need to update the ECP to 1.05 first and then you can silently update using the 1.20 UEFI.   Unfortunatly there is no silent ECP update to 1.05 available at the moment.  My understanding is that the silent update has been disabled because suspending a machine after the silent update on some versions will result in the machine being bricked.

I'm setting up a new X1 Carbon with machine type 20FB. It came with a Samsung MZNTY256HDHP SSD. I noted there was a recent SSD firmware update package for this laptop model, so I downloaded and ran the updater. It reported there were no updates. However, after digging a bit deeper, I discovered that the SSD firmware updater for the X1 Carbon 20A7/20A8/etc. DOES have an update for the SSD in this machine. What is going on here? Does this firmware update somehow only apply when the SSD is installed in a 20A7? Or did this particular model of SSD just get missed when Lenovo was putting together the firmware update package for the 20FB?

Hi guys, I recently got hold of my new X1 carbon and decided to do a thorough firmware update with vantage. When the trackpoint utility firmware was installed, my laptop flashed with an installation failure notice and rebooted. After that, the trackpoint as well as the mouse above the touchpad no longer worked. I tried the advanced setting in control panel, but the entire trackpoint configuration option was blacked out. Does anybody experience similar issues with this update and have any suggestions on how to do a home fix for this? I have been making do with the touchpad and a bluetooth mouse, but it does not feel very "thinkpad" this way.....

The linux version of the latest BIOS/ECP firmware (1.44/1.18) for the X1 Carbon 4th gen (type 20FB and 20FC) and X1 Yoga 1st gen (types 20FQ, 20FR) was released Aug 2 (n1ful37w.zip) https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/de/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-... Direct link: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1ful37w.zip That .zip file contains two .cab files, N1FET70W.cab and N1FHT35W.cab, for the BIOS and ECP respectively. Updating the BIOS in linux for my X1 Carbon 20FB worked fine for me with fwupdmgr, but failed for the ECP. This was because the metadata for the ECP update has a typo. Inside the N1FHT35W.cab file is a firmware.metainfo.xml, with a GUID of: 4c2e5b5c-6467-43af-afeb7bc72d96b9c3 This is incorrect. It's missing a dash, and should read: 4c2e5b5c-6467-43af-afeb-7bc72d96b9c3 Modifying this file within the .cab (or extracting it and generating a new .cab) and then flashing that with fwupdmgr fixed the problem. I've attached the modified .cab file (nested in a .zip file for upload). You can check yourself that the only thing that's changed is the GUID line in the .xml file. This typo should be fixed in the source by Lenovo and reuploaded as perhaps a rev 2 for n1ful37w.zip . Hopefully this hasn't happened for any other firmware update files.

Windows Update pops up a UAC style notification every time I log in to my stand-alon Lenovo X230T laptop running Windows 8.1 Pro x64 saying that something "needs to restart to install a firmware update".  I am sure that the notification comes
from Windows Update:

If I kill the Windows Update process in Task Manager, the notifications go away.If I disable the Windows Update service in services.msc, the notifications never appear.
However, I have read that Windows Update can be compromised, and I have not found any confirmation that Windows Update makes unsolicited firmware updates on stand-alone computers.  Here are some screenshots of the notifications:

The first notification appears as soon as I log in. It stays in the foreground and blocks all action until I click "Close" or kill the Windows Update process in Task Manager.  Afterwards the notification is visible (in the task switcher) in
the background, but I cannot give it focus or bring it to the foreground.  It pops up again at the 5-minute mark, and again stays in the foreground and blocks everything until I click "Close" or kill the Windows Update process in Task Manager.
How can I be sure that this is legitimate?  If it is, why doesn't it show up in the Windows Update GUI? What firmware is being updated?

I've installed the updates upon request. It's been two days now and the pop up keeps on coming saying the same two updates available. I checked the update history and the updates were all installed successfully. These updates are actually a few years old and it's odd how they just popped up. The updates were for MS Framerwork KB2600217 and KB2656351

Any suggestions on clearing this up?

Dear all, having just updated my the firmware of my Ultra Dock (40AJ0135EU) via Lenovo Vantage to V5.0.6.1, there is now something truly wrong with the power supply; on startup, I am greeted by the famous "low wattage" screen and when using windows, the battery is slowly drained (Lenovo Vantage claims that a 25 W USB-C adapter would be connected instead of the 135 W one). The issue never occurred prior to the firmware update and consistently shows up for any other power cable (trying several ones, including 90 W). So while the "low wattage" screen is annoying, the more severe issue is the constantly drained battery which makes using the dock basically impossible over time. Any ideas? I did not find a way to undo the firmware update - or is the recommendation to wait and hope for yet-another firmware update that (may) solve the issue? Maybe someone has a similar issue and a better / working solution Thx!

Howdy,I've got a t460p thinkpad, running win10.  It has the dock, and 2 monitors are usually attached to the dock.My lenovo system update wanted me to install the critical security [urgent] update to my intel management engine, the update is to version  I followed all the instructions, closing nearly everything and the update proceeded normally and quickly, until it froze. The system updater says "installing: Intel Management Engine 11.8 Firmware - 7 [32/64]/8.1/10 [64]"  and"Overall Progress:  91%"The cmd window that's showing the actual install says "FW Update:  [ 99% (-)] Do Not Interrupt"  but the little progress spinning thing has not spun in a long time. (40+ minutes)Every so often (every 5mins?), it the upper progress bar in the "system update" will backup a little bit...then it will move forward again a minute or so later. Umm...I need to use my computer.  It's been about 45 minutes that I've been looking at this screen with no change (other than the backup-forward cha-cha in the gui progress bar).(image to help) (the progress bar is in it's full position, this is what it looks like after the top progress bar moves forward again after backing up a wee bit, when it backs up, it just doubles that gray area at the end, it doesn't move back a whole lot).I am guessing I cannot restart at this point. Can I abort the install and try again?

A week ago at regular system update request I installed the offered "Lenovo SSD & HDD Firmware Update Tool"  10.3010 on P50 running Windows 7/64. Message appeared that I needed to remove password on (only) the factory 500GB HDD. Passwords also exist on the two SSD's but no action requested re them. I presumed the SSD updates were installed and I would have to later temporarily remove HDD PW and run the update again. So I removed the HDD PW just now and went to System Update online but message then was that there was nothing for my machine. How do I force installing the update again, if that is the right way to do it. Is there any way to see if it somehow took care of the problem automatically as soon as soon as I removed the PW? Thanks.

Can a Firmware Update and/or drivers on printers be reversed?I am new to BleepingComputer, so I do not know which Forum to post this to, as this issue involves multiple forums: Hardware (HP Printers), Software (Firmware & Drivers), Operating Systems running Windows 2000 and Windows XP.At my workplace, we have many HP Printers on the network. A:Can A Printer Firmware Update And/or Driver Update Be Reversed?

You can go to Device Manager and find the printer and in properties it gives you the option to "roll back" the driver to a previous version. A firmware update and driver update mean 2 different things, to me anyways. My understanding is a firmware update offers "improved" instructions to the onboard chip of the device. I have a problem related to TPB firmware update in my Portege Z30-B-191 laptop.
Firsly I was noticed by the OS (Windows 10) about an update for the TPM firmware.
When I follow the steps I found this link in Toshiba site where I could find a downloable file and the instructions:
I downloaded the file but when I tried to follow the installation instructions (https://support.toshiba.com/support/...tentId=4015880) I found a problem: instructions are incomplete.
The point 8 of the section "Updating TPM via Windows 10" says: "Provide the Owner Password if requested. In case does not appears, skip to 14." but, there are only 9 points!!!

I haven't updated the firmware because the instructions are not clear and I'm afraid that the equipment could be damaged.

Could anyone help me?

I'm thinking maybe the problem was that the HLDS GT33N DVD drive did not have the latest firmware; it looks like its firmware version is LT20. On the Lenovo Drivers and Software page for the T520, there is a DVD Firmware Update Utility for Windows XP, Vista, 7 (fwsb10.zip). A:DVD Firmware Update Utility for Windows 8?

If you do try it I would run it in Windows 7 Compatibility mode. The chances are higher that it will work. I have the same 4239 but a different DVD drive, Sony model and never release new firmware for it. I don't see why that would prevent you from reading a DVD it burned or OEM pressed DVD.

I am testing October 2016 Win7X64 Updates in our network. We install Critical and Important updates. In testing, the updates install fine, then the machines restart and gets stuck at the Configuring Updates - Do Not Power Off your machine screen.
I can see that the machines disk activity stop after a few minutes. Keyboard responds so pc has not frozen but nothing happens. I have to power off the pc manually and next boot is fine. I can install the updates one at a time withour problems. My question
is how can I identify which update is causing the problem ? Which logs should I check and where should I look ?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Is this going to start a boot loop like last time it happened?

A:Windows 10 Update downloaded X1E firmware when 1.24 is already installed

If 1.24 is already installed, Windows Update will show that the 1.23 firmware (aka BIOS) was successfully installed. The real question is who thought that pushing Thinkpad BIOS updates through Windows Update services was a good idea? The recent track record on the P1/X1 Extreme BIOS updates of which several "bricked" the systems when applied does not lend itself to unattended installation.

Hi. I ran the Samsung 840 EVO Firmware update that was provided because of the degrading problem said to be with the product.

It went all the way through and said complete. There were no problems or interruptions there. I closed the application and rebooted my machine.

The computer will get to the windows screen but right when it is supposed to go to the login it goes black and the monitors stop detecting a signal. It just sits at a black screen.

The scary thing is that when i try to run a recovery all executables associated with a given recovery error out. I.E. StartRep.exe fails to run. Trying to load previous working fails to run to. They get memory exception type errors!

I put in the windows 7 disc and have had it come up with "hit key to boot from cd or dvd". all repair attempts are the same as above. They fail the same way.

The only thing I have not figured out is how to get the machine to load into safe mode. i have been hitting F8 and doing what I can but I get no such options. My options are only the repair dialogs or boot normally. I do not understand why this machine has never given me a choice to boot to safe mode. How can I get that to work?

Please help! Is there anything I can do? I can't find any samsung forums or info.

What degrading problem ? Samsungs are the best IMO, what did you think upgrading the firmware would help ? Or what did Samsung say it was for ?

How old is the drive, how often is it used ?

My USB-C to HDMI connection doesn't really work - almost always it doesn't see the external display, so I am trying to install the PD Firmware (Type C Firmware) update, version 1.3.  It goes through the steps but then I get an error message: Update ProgressBootloader is active. Proceeding to update firmware image #1Reading Silicon ID..Silicon ID of file (1F0011AF) doesn't match the device(0). Stopping update there is a similar post here where it was suggested to run msconfig with Diagnostic Startup, reboot, anf then try to run the PD Firmware Update utility.  I tried that but got exactly the same error message. Any ideas would be very welcome! thanks.

Hi, I have recently just got done building my computer. Did the hardware, pretty much all the software till all I had to do was install 231 important windows updates. So I aloud it and it took a good hr to install it all.. than the computer shuts down and I turn it back on, than it goes into configure the updates mode.. 20 minutes later it says failed windows updates and is now reverting back.. and not in those exact words.

When I was finally able to get out of the revert update screen which took about 30-40 minutes everything seemed normal, till I opened the update history screen and showed about 95% of the updates failed. I also noticed that it had installed the updates on my HDD which is my D: storage but should have installed it on my C: SSD storage. Now I need to figure out how to get rid of that locked folder on my HDD and place all the windows updates on my SSD.

i7 4790k cpu

gtx 750 ti gpu

ddr5 2400 memory

evga 850 g2 psu

Z97 gaming 5 mobo

Samsung 500gb SSD

1.5tb HDD (seagate I think)

windows 7 64bit home

I've been searching around to see if there was a fix but a lot of people have had a really hard time with this issue and seems to be so many people unable to fix it.. I'll be turning off windows update till I figure this out.

Thanks guys
