[SOLVED] Computer freezes after boot and keyboard doesnt work.. help!

Q: [SOLVED] Computer freezes after boot and keyboard doesnt work.. help!

Hey, just added some more memory and a new gfx card to my computer and reinstalled windows xp, first of all heres my pc specs..

Intel C2D E8400 CPU @ Stock (3.00Ghz)
Asus P5K Motherboard
4GB OCZ Platinum (4x1GB)
8800GTS 512MB (Using 80.84 Beta drivers)
500W PSU

So after i formatted my hdd and reinstalled drivers and all my software rebooted, then i put my xbox 360 controller ran a benchmark on gta iv and then installed some new beta nvidia drivers and restarted, the pc didnt load any of the startup programs exept nvidia manager, i clicked the start menu and the pc froze i coulnt move the mouse, access task manager or anything else...

I rebooted and it kept doing the same thing, i thought it might be something todo with my 360 controller as i had used that in gta iv and i forgot to install the drivers, i removed it and tried again, same thing.

So this was last night and i reinstalled windows and all drivers over night, today i turn on my computer and after about 20 minutes, i was on the internet and clicked on some link and the computer froze jsut like last night, now its back to doing the same thing again (not loading startup programs, freezing when i right click and the keyboard doesnt work!

This is really pissing me off as the comp was fine before i upgraded it.

P.S: im thinking it could be something to do with the Beta nvidia drivers im using (there supposed to make gta iv run better, but who knows)

Thanks in advance, tech.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Ok i seem to have sorted it now, i simply entered safemode uninstalled the beta drivers and reinstalled the offical ones, seems to be working fine now.

Whenever I boot my PC in the morning the keyboard does not work. I have to reboot and then the keyboard works perfectly. After that even if I reboot any number of times...the keyboard works perfectly.
Its only in the morning when the machine is cold when this problem occurs.
The Keyboard is showing in Device Manager. I even tried removing it and adding it back.

I have a logitech wireless elite keyboard and mouse (keyboard is PS/2 mouse is USB)
AMD athlon 64 1.8ghz
Abit KN8 V1.1 mobo
OS: Windows XP pro

Any ideas ????

A:Keyboard doesnt work on cold boot

I'd say you may as well just hit restart as soon as you hear the post beep when you cold boot. Just out of curiosity though. You say your keyboard is a logitech wireless elite. How have you got a wireless device on PS/2? I didn't know you could. I was under the impression you had to use a USB dongle. If this isn't so please post a reply correcting me as it's random and I like random stuff.

Hello, some days ago my computer got blocked by this GEMA thingy, so each time I started it, it would be blocked with this GEMA message saying I downloaded music illegaly or something, and when i go into safe mode the keyboard doesnt work. A:Solved: windows 7 ( MOUSE and KEYBOARD doesnt WORK... ) upperfilrters have been dele

*The fix* Manual

1. Plug in a usb keyboard and mouse. (They almost always load up just fine)

2. Load into windows. (doesnt matter if its safe mode, or just regular boot)

3. Make sure you load into the administrator account. Go to the start menu (in vista and windows 7 just start typing regedit) (for xp, go to the start menu and click run, then type regedit). Once you load up regedit find these keys and edit them.

4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Look for a value titled UpperFilters, its type is REG_MULTI_SZ. If it doesn’t exist, create it. Edit the value UpperFilters to read kbdclass. If there are any other line items in UpperFilters, delete them.

5. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Look for a value titled UpperFilters, its type is REG_MULTI_SZ. If it doesn’t exist, create it. Edit the value UpperFilters to read mouclass. If there are any other line items in UpperFilters, delete them.

6. Reboot the machine and you should now have a working keyboard and mouse.

*If you notice HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ has registry keys that all relate to the hardware. Key that in mind…..

**Adding to the post yet again. If you cant get the keyboard to work and you have tried plugging another keyboard in with no luck, use the on screen keyboard (vista and 7) .

Go into the BIOS and there will be a setting for USB keyboards on start up, make sure it is disabled other wise you can get problems, also make your BIOS is up to date.

I understand that your new OMEN's backlit keyboard is not working.  I did a little research, and apparently, after a BIOS update, the keyboard backlighting turns off.  I don't know if you did a BIOS update, but pressing F5 will turn it back on. If F5 does not resolve the issue, then make sure your OMEN is up to date using the HP Support document Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 8). If neither of these suggestions resolve the issue, you might contact HP for service. Since your OMEN is new it should still be under warranty. Check your warranty status by browsing to Check your warranty status . Good luck #hpexpertday

I'll start from scratch on what I did.

I installed a program to irecovery.exe (I think this is what killed usb drives). Once i restarted my computer my mouse and keyboard wasn;t recognizing on my machine. Windows would load up but I couldnt move my mouse or type in my password.

I read online that my usb drives were uninstalled and I would need to use a ps/2 mouse/keyboard to access my computer. After trying different usb slots and then getting a ps/2 to USB converter. Nothing works.

Then i read online that the next best way to go about this issue is into bios, either hitting F8 or delete. Now my problem is always i've never seen the bios screen. It would just stay dark until the window screen would load. If i press delete or F8 it will just stay blank the screen, if i dont touch anything then it loads to windwos but i cant move my mouse.

What do i do next?

Windows 7

A:KeyBoard & Mouse doesnt work

If you have managed to remove the USB drivers I would imagine the easiest way forward would be to do a repair install from your Windows 7 install disk.

Should try the laptop manufacturer's website to see if you can find the drivers for this. Does look like there missing.

You can right click and select update driver software, either search automatically or browse your computer, select signed driver from the list is shows you.

first of all I'm from Holland and not a wizzkid, much of the things I read I don't really understand what its about, also because of the english versus dutch terminology for things..
Hopefully somebody can help me out (i have a friend who understands computerstuff a lot better, seeing him tomorow to trie to fix the problem)
I bought a hp pavillion dv 7 with 'free' upgrade for windows 7. Ordered it and tried to install but compatibility report stated to update driver keyboardfilter first and that I had to remove certain software, (games, skype and ATI catalist install manager/control center), removed games and skype but couln't find the ATI thing to remove. I also could not find keyboardfilter and updated anything to do with keyboards. Then started upgrade but it got stuck on finalising.. so had to quit.. eversince the keyboard doesn't work. Got depressed about it and left it for a while .. Yesterday full hope tried again and found out that I could put keyboard on the screen, so I could at least type again and finally get into my laptop, tried again to update all possible, reinstalled the upgrade manager cd and this time it worked! So according to my computer windows 7 is perfectly installed with all recent driver updates etc, me happy thought to be smart but keyboard still doesn't work. I found 2 problems (triangle with exclamationmark) which computer itself cannot solve; 1: driverprogram 'synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad' - problem with starting (code10)
2:standard 101/102 - k... Read more

You didn't say whether you are using a PS2 or USB keyboard. If it's PS2, you may have a bad port, otherwise you may have a USB problem. Have you tried your keyboard on another computer? You should be able to plug it in to your laptop and try it...

The whole story sounds unbelievable. Brand new notebook and keyboard is not working???
Install recovery image again and check if the situation is the same. If the problem persists contact your local dealer, explain the situation and ask for exchange.

Don't have the proper terminology to relate the problem I'm having, but I hope I can improvise some language terms and get my point across.

At the top of my screen is about an inch of background color--I picked this color when I set up my desktop theme. This area is also the area where the IE tabs open up, the address bar is, the home history and settings icons are, and the forward and backward icons are.

Every 5-6 seconds this colored area flashes to a white color and when the white appears the keyboard no longer works.

This is what a sentence looksllike wen Itype while the white area is flashing, and don't make any kinof repairs to the typed words. The plac where the words aren't rrect are when the white secon flashes anthe keyboard isn't working.

I've been over at the virus/malware forum, and got a clean bill of health, so this shouldn't be an infection problem.....

Do you have the system fully updated from MS? Do you have all the latest hardware drivers installed? Is this a 3rd party software for customization?

Hi, Does f5 key have a "light" symbol similar to the following image (middle one):       If yes, just hit f5 only (do not use Fn key). Regards.

Series of bizarre problems, hoping someone could help
When I try to boot my computer reaches the windows screen then restarts, and keeps repeating this. Sometimes it throws up a bad pool caller error and a bsod.
It gives me a Stop code: 0xc2 (0x43, 0xc3af4000, 0x0, 0x0)

Additionally my keyboard no longer works, at least during startup which is all I can access. True for both USB and ps2 keyboard. The numlock light can be turned on but that's about it. So I know the connection is working but the boards still don't work, which means I've been unable to get to safe mode or into bios settings.

Help greatly appreciated

A:computer won't boot: bad pool call error, ps2 keyboard won't work

So I got the keyboard to work by updating the bios, but I still have the bsod with the bad_pool_caller error as described before. Safe mode and booting with last working settings does not work. And I still can't actually boot the thing. I've run a diagnostic on the ram and that returned no errors, and I'm currently running an advanced diagnostic on the HDD but I ran a quick test before and that returned no problems. I've tried disconnecting keyboard, mouse, ethernet, speakers, cd/dvd drive to see if any of those devices are throwing the error and so far nothing. Everything is displaying fine, so I don't think it's being thrown by my video card.

I've seen people suggest running a windows repair for this problem but I haven't found anyone who has tried it and gotten it to help.

Any thoughts or help appreciated.

When I start up my computer, I hit any key and the whole pc freezes up. No activity at all. Someone said my keyboard is messed up, I tried a new one and the same thing happens. I am now stuck using my on-screen keyboard and it works just fine. I uninstalled my keyboard and reinstalled it and there was no difference. This following message appears in the keyboard device status: Windows cannot start this device because it's configuration information (in the registy) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19). I recently installed a webcam and figured that was the problem, but I am very much stuck. Anyone....please!

A:Solved: Computer freezes after I hit keyboard key

put your windows disk in and see if you can repair the windows registry then.I havn't done that in ages, but i believe theres an option on the cd for it.

I'm having some problems and would appreciate any help. I got an old computer for free a few days ago. Let me start by mentioning the specs:
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
AMD Duron 850Mzh
ATI AWI 128 Pro
The computer has rather obviously been modified and now has XP as mentioned and 3 separate hard drives for well over 50GB.
Every time I ran the computer the message ''cpu is unworkable or has changed'' came up, but pressing F1 allowed the computer to run without any issues. I did some reading online how to remove this problem and there was a post where someone mentioned that something as simple as saving and exiting (in the startup (BIOS) setup after pressing 'del') could remove the issue. I didn't change any settings at all myself since I got the computer and then resumed to do so, save and exit. My computer made the default restart automatically after doing so but after restart nothing at all happend, no 'beep' sound, monitor: 'no signal', just the power was on. After some tweeking I found out that my keyboard with a PS/2 port is causing the problem at every startup, my mouse in it's PS/2 port works fine. If I restart without the keyboard XP runs without problems. To get a new Windows startup to work if I plug in the keyboard I need to remove my power cord (turning off isn't enough). Also if I plug in the keyboard after XP is up and running and my mouse works everything freezes and ... Read more

A:Old xp computer keyboard works fine but when on boot menue it dont work

I think you will probably need to temporarily connect whichever alternative keyboard (PS/2 or AT) the system has input for, enter the BIOS setup as indicated on the boot screen, and enable an option which is commonly called Legacy USB. The system should then respond to the USB keyboard prior to Windows starting.

This often occurs on older systems when the CMOS data has been reset back to BIOS default values. Make sure the CMOS backup battery hasn't gone flat, or it is likely to happen again.
