I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi ozp ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Can you try FN + ESC (toggle function lock), then FN + Spacebar (toggle off-dim-full).

The specification does include a full-size keyboard, backlight, 6-row, multimedia Fn keys.

Update us how it goes.

I got a notice on my laptop saying there was a critical update, so I clicked ok go ahead with it. Now that this problem has occurred and I've been hunting for a solution I see that people generally warn against doing BIOS updates. Unfortunately I didn't know about that and was just naively letting the laptop go ahead with whatever updates it wanted. Too late now. My laptop shut itself down like it was going to restart, when I looked back over ten minutes later it was still sitting with a black screen and LED light on. Unresponsive to anything. It's been two hours now.  To make matter worse, I'm trying to contact Lenovo customer support and keep getting a "document not found" page error when I try to get to the contact information on Lenovo's website. This forum is apparently the only thing I can access. So.. any advice? I'm in a complete panic here as I heavily depend on that laptop for a number of things and having it not work puts me in a really bad situation.

I just recently bought the YOGA 710-15IKB and after I got it which was on 1/27/17, I went to the product support page and downloaded all of the updated drivers and the BIOS update. I did everything as it was supposed to be done and now out of nowhere the Screen will not turn on, I can turn it on, the keyboard lights up, it seems to charge just fine but the screen just stays black, anybody have any ideas on how to possibly troubleshoot this, or what could have caused this?

A:Bios update bow computer wont turn on

Hi Brrlrcr97, and welcome to TSG.

Exactly what do you mean by "won't turn on"? Do you press the power button, it makes some sounds, and then completely shuts off?

Are we safe to assume it is an H-P/Compaq brand computer? If so, please give us the full model number of it (not just the model series).

My x240 won't boot at all. The backlight for the keyboard and all the other indication lights (power, caps lock, etc) blink about every second. I've tried: * removing the battery and working from mains power* inserting a pin into the emergency-reset* pressing power button for 30 seconds* frequent pressing of the power button, with battery, without, on mains power, and no power at all. None fix the problem. I suspect that either the SSD, or a memory module, is either damaged or just been shifted in its slot (years back I had an old Sony that wouldn't boot. Re-seating the HDD solved it in that case). Any help appreciated.

Synopsis: PSU died, replaced PSU with different model, system boots to bios successfully but does not recognize any devices in SATA ports, nor do those devices appear to be getting power. Now can't even get to BIOS, entire PC flicks on and off repeatedly as soon as I turn the PSU on regardless of whether I hit the power button on the front of the computer.

System Specifications

Original PSU that died: SeaSonic M12II 750 SS-750AM 750w PSU
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
GPUs: ASUS 670 non-top version, SLI (2x)
MOBO: ASRock Z77 extreme 6
RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) SDRAM DDR3 2133
Optical drive: Sony AD-7280S-0B 24x SATA Internal DVD+/-RW Drive
SSD: SanDisk Extreme 240GB SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch (OS is installed here)
Storage drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB SATA III (This was not connected when power supply died)

Detailed explanation:About a week ago my PSU (Seasonic 750w) died randomly while the computer was left running in sleep . I RMA'd the dead seasonic. In the mean time I happened to come accross an extremely good deal on a new PSU, so I bought it (Thermaltake smart m850w PSU) to have a backup and to get my machine working again.

I hooked up the new PSU to GPUs, CPU, fans, ATX power connector, and to all of the SATA devices, (the SSD, the HDD, and the Optical drive). I made sure to connect the data cables to the SATA devices in the same configuration they were in when working properly. The computer boots suc... Read more

A:PSU died, new PSU, bios wont recognize SATA devices, now wont turn on

I had a similar problem when I had an Antec PSU die on me. After I replaced it, my Biostar mobo's BIOS would no longer retain settings, and both my Pioneer DVD burners were completely dead. Not recognized in the BIOS, they would not acknowledge any discs inserted, nothing worked. I also started getting BSODs pointing to a corrupt BIOS. Replacing the burners didn't help. Putting the Pioneer burners in a new machine didn't work.

It turned out that the dying Antec PSU had wrecked the Biostar's BIOS chip and both Pioneer DVD burners. Replacing the BIOS chip was more expensive than buying a new motherboard, and reflashing the chip wasn't possible because the flash utility told me I already had the latest BIOS version. I ended up trashing the board and buying an ASRock board and Samsung burners.

If you get a new motherboard (or try another known-good working PC), and you connect your present SATA devices and they don't work, then the dying Seasonic may have burnt them out, too.

- I have ThinkPad Yoga 260 (20FES0LQ00).- Power button does nothing.- Plugging the charger does nothing..- Hit the reset button on bottom. No change. Any ideas on how to best troubleshoot this? My guess is 1) bad power switch (not sure how likely that is), 2) shorted battery (seems highly unlikely) and 3) bad motherboard. Additional questions: 1) If I buy a used motherboard, will I need a new copy of Windows 10? Isn't the windows key stored on the motherboard so I would that key still work? 2) Can I upgrade to an I7? The currents system has a I5-6200U. Is it worth it? It appears that both use the same heat sink. 3) There is an listing on EBay for the same sytem I have (same type, different version) without a hard drive. Can I just install my drive in the new system without buying and installing a new copy of windows?  Help!

I tried to turn on my computer today and nothing happened, only the keyboard backlight flashes every 3 seconds. I tried holding down the power button for various amounts of time (30s, 60s, 90s) and the keyboard stops flashing, that's it. I'm running Windows 10 and there was an update a couple days back. I'm not sure if that's relevant at all. Any help on getting my notebook up and running again would be great. Thanks!

Hi all, I just purchased a new yoga 710 15 inch laptop. Is there any other way to turn off the backlit keyboard other than Fn+spacebar? Anytime I turn on the laptop, the backlight turns on and will not turn off with those keystrokes. It is only a minor nuisance to have the backlight always on, but I would of course love to be able to turn it off in order to save battery. Is there anything else I can do, or is this just a defective machine? If it is defective, do you all think it's worth sending it in to fix the defect? I can't decide so I'd appreciate opinions, but hopefully there is some way that the keyboard can be turned off.

A:New Yoga 710 -- backlit keyboard won't turn off?

Hi amarquardt ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Would the other function keys work using its hotkeys (page 4-5 as example)?
Will FN + spacebar work if you set in safe mode as it suppose to go on on- dim of modes ?

You can try turning on the machine using the Novo button and set BIOS setup to defaults , check on version of BIOS if you have latest from the support site.

If you need further guide best that you call in technical support and they would be able to recommend you ways to proceed depending on the scenario and how the process of repair works so you can decide on your options too.

Update us how things go.

I purchased a Lenovo Yoga 3.14 laptop from Best Buy about a year and a half ago. Unfortunately I have had to send it out twice so far because the keyboard stopped working. It was within warranty, so this cost me $0. Now, the computer won?t turn on at all (just 4 months after my warranty expired). I went to best buy to have the computer looked at and was told it may be a big problem. The computer has no physical or water damage of any kind. Sending it out for testing and repair it will likely cost me over $500. The computer was originally $800 and with its record of needing repairs I don?t think it would be wise to repair it just to have it break again (as it does once every six months.) I am finding it very difficult to get any support information from lenovo itself. I have never heard of a computer breaking so quickly and so often. I sent them feedback, but I dont actually know if they will contact me about it. Has anyone else had success using 'feedback' or over the phone? I love this computer and I would buy it again if I knew it wouldnt have these issues or they would give me some guarantee or discount. Thanks for any help!

Problem: It seems as though my brand new Thinkpad Yoga 12 doesn't know that it's in laptop mode and turns the keyboard and trackpad off as soon as the log in screen (Windows 8.1) comes up.   But if I lightly press the screen back, both come back to life. I let go and they switch off immediately. I also found out that if I put something under either one of the front corners of the laptop, the keyboard and trackpad work and stay on for longer ... with 90% success rate.   What's weird is that when I go directly to the BIOS, then the keyboard works perfectly, which gives me the impression that it's a sensor problem.   Touchscreen works always and perfectly.      Previously troubleshooting attempts without success: Re-install all drivers. (Keyboard, sensor, etc.)Update all drivers.2x 8.1 Windows reinstall. All (non-Microsoft) services off.Sensors and HID keyboard off / uninstall.Safe Mode      System Details: Windows 8.1, BIOS Version 1.03, i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Wacom Digitizer etc.

No matter what I try I cannot turn off my keyboard backlights. I'm more annoyed by the fact that I can't figure out how to turn it off at this point than the fact that its constantly on. I would like to be able to toggle this feature like everyone else. Does anyone have any ideas? Hello, I have a Lenovo Yoga 900 and it recently wont turn on.  The issue is being caused by the computer not recieving power.  I tried charging it the last time that I was able to use it, and it didnt recieve power.  I tried restarting a few times and now it is stuck and wont turn on. I have researched the issue a bit, and I think the difference with mine is that it doesnt light up the light near the power button, the computer is totally dead.  I have tested the power brick, and I was able to charge my phone with it, so that worked.  I inspected the cable, and that appears to be in excellent shape.  I have never dropped the computer and it has no water damage. Another issue that may or may not be related is that one of the speakers has been on the fritz for the last few months.  Most the time only one speaker works... the left one, and the right one has only worked for about a week over the last year or so.  I have also tested with headphones and only the left ear phone works.   I bring this up because it appears that there is a board in the computer that appears to have audio and power on the same part, and I am wondering if this is what is failing.  I would appreciate any advice because I really like this computer and would like to work with it again. Lenovo Yoga 900 i7 512gb Thank you

Windows key + R > services.msc > "Touch screen keyboard and handwriting panel" > double-click and change it from "Automatic" startup to "Manual".This will mean that when in tablet mode, you will need to click the keyboard icon on the taskbar, when you want it. You can also make a startup script that uses the sensor to stop and enable the service when in laptop/tablet mode. Look into ahk.
