T470s unable to detect M.2 SSD 2242 in WWAN (second ssd slot)

Q: T470s unable to detect M.2 SSD 2242 in WWAN (second ssd slot)

T470 had this issue when bios was 1.30; however, after upgrade to 1.39, the issue was fixed.Unfortunately, my T470s is still unable to detect M.2 SSD 2242 with current bios 1.33.Is any possible to fix it? My M.2 2242 is Transcend 512GB SATA III 6Gb/s MTS430S.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I would like to install a 1TB SSD into the unused WWAN slot of my P52. Is that possible? This would, BTW, be in addition to three other intalled SSD drives (one in the 2.5 bay and two in the M.2 NVMe 2280 slots.) I purchased a Dogfish SSD M.2 2242 1TB, and it fits into the WWAN slot (and lights up). But so far, after a high dozen reboots, I cannot get the laptop to recognize it. It does not show up in ?disk management? or ?Samsung Magician?. Is this installation possible, or simply incompatible? Can the P52 recognize four drives? Does it require a BIOS reconfiguration? And, if so, what would I need to do? Thanks, in advance, for any advice that you can provide. -FRANK (Baertracks)

Hello  At work my colleagues and I use a Think T470S , Model-No 20HF-003NMZ. There is a SIM card slot at the side of these notebooks, so I put in a SIM card from a Swiss provider. However, with or without a SIM, I don't see any LTE/WWAN devices in Windows listet on at least two f our T470s. So my question is, does the T470S support LTE/WWAN access? I mean, there is the SIM card slot, but as I can see from the Lenovo's shop configurator, some models do have a WWAN ready option. Does this mean I have to buy an accessory to get the WWAN working? Or is it a configuration / driver problem? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Radiofloyd

A:T470S No LTE / WWAN adapter in Windows although SIM card slot exists.

Hi Radiofloyd,Warm Greetings & welcome to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.

Looking at your system configuration this model is WWAN ready but in order to use this feature, you need to add WWAN card to it.

My T480 came with the standard 512GB NVMe SSD in-a-caddy. I'd need some more storage so am attempting to tweak the laptop, putting in 2 SSD into the 2.5" space. Here's my plan: M.2 2280 NVMe/SATA
-> Proprietary connector (F) on the motherboard
-> Proprietary connector (M) 00UR495
-> SATA-600 (F) 00UR495
-> M.2(NGFF) SATA KEY B+M SSD to SATA Adapter card

M.2 2242 NVMe slot

-> Lenovo SSD M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe 512GB OPAL 2.0 SSD M.2 2280 Samsung (FRU 00UP490)I thought of extending the M.2 2242 NVMe slot with an extender card but turns out it doesn't fit. These are the two pieces I'd like to connect by an extender card: Motherboard: Lenovo T480 M.2 B-key (NVMe only x4 slot, x2 physically wired)https://imgur.com/rutbx72--> The 6 pins on the bottom (only 5 physically wired) suggest to me that this is a B key M.2 slot.NVMe SSD:Lenovo NVMe SSD M-key (PCIe GEN3 x4 NVMe)https://imgur.com/dI1AyRq The extender card I had attempted early, but that doesn't fit the M.2 2242 NVMe slot:http://eshop.sintech.cn/storage-adapter-ngff-m2-pcie-c-130_137.html Am I correct to conclude that the M.2 2242 NVMe slot is B key? Or am I missing some key setup step? I have all the latest drivers installed and it is Verizon SIM. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello All, I'm looking under the hood of my 1st gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon, and I'm trying to identify the PCIe slots.  In particular, the following page states that I should have 2 PCI Express Mini slots:  https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/pd027202 Now I see the WLAN card and the WWAN card, and my natural assumption is that these are both in PCIe ports, but on closer inspection I see that the WLAN card's slot is only 19mm wide, whereas the WWAN card is the standard 26mm width of normal PCIe Mini ports. This raises some questions:  1. Is the WLAN connected to a proprietary slot, or is this just a different type of PCIe standard?  2. If the WLAN is connected to a proprietary slot, where is my second PCIe slot? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az

A:Why is my WLAN card slot narrower than my WWAN card slot (PCIe mini)?

On closer inspection, it looks like my SSD connects to a similar-looking slot as my WLAN card.  I guess this means my WLAN card uses a SATA connection or something? I normally work with desktop PCs, so I'm unfamiliar with a lot of these laptop hardware standards. Regards,Adam Zebrowski-az-

I have a T470. I took out the main sata ssd drive from the main drive bay. There is nothing in there. That is the way I want it. I put a Lexar NM520 M.2 2242 512GB NVMe Solid-State Drive in the WWAN port. I imaged that drive. I can boot to it. I don't know exactly how as it is not listed in the bios as a boot device, but it does boot to it. I assume it has something to do with it being NVMe and not SATA in the WWAN port. My problem is that before it boots to the WWAN m.2 NVMe drive it produces a boot error for the main drive missing. The error states MAIN DRIVE not found, esc to continue. Which requires me to push the escape button to continue booting. That is a problem for me. Is there any way to disable this main drive check? I know there is no main drive in that bay, obviously. I called lenovo consumer support and it was like talking to someone who had never heard of a computer before. Very frustrating.

A:T470 m.2 2242 Nvme WWAN as primary OS boot drive - error from missing main drive

That slot is specified as SATA with no mention of NVMe support.  It's surprising (to me...) that it boots.  I'd be concerned that some future BIOS update would remove the ability to boot.

My _guess_ is that a SATA drive would solve the error - but that's just a guess.  I have a bootable SATA m.2 drive in my T25 - which shares  the internals with the T470.  It's in the shop at the moment.  I may need to open it and will try to run a test when I can - but can't say when that might be.

My TPY 260 hasn't arrived yet I am just wondering if anyone here has tried this?The WWAN card uses the same M.2 connector as the regular SSD except it is B-keyed which means it would only fit a SATA SSD. Since WWAN (LTE) is not even an option at the moment I would like to be able to make use of this slot if I can. It looks as if there is space for a 42mm length M.2 SSD which would be great for dual booting windows and linux.

As far as I know, the WWAN slot does not support SATA. So if there will be SSD 2242 with PCIE interface such as "Toshiba RC100". Will it work?2. Is it possible to change boot in BIOS from the main m.2 slot to the WWAN slot?  My goal is to have 2 SSDs with differen OS in each one of them (don't want dual booot on one SSD).  Really appreciate for any insigts about this! PS

One of the reasons I ended up choosing the P51s over other comperable laptops was its unparalleled expandability in a portable, quite thin package. I can't think of any other laptops, outside of the T470s, that are 15.6" or smaller, allow for more than one internal hard drive, and aren't meant to be teathered to a desk. I was informed by multiple Lenovo customer represenatives before I bought my laptop that the P51s not only had a 2.5" SATA bay, but also an open WWAN slot that could be used to house an m.2 SATA SSD. I just got around to buying an m.2 SATA SSD for the slot, but my laptop is rejecting it. It won't even boot unless I disable the WWAN slot (from the BIOS) entirely. What gives? I thought I could put an SSD in the slot--that was one of the reasons I bought the laptop!

I would like to add an SSD to the WWAN slot in my x270. I have read around that the format is M.2 NGFF 22*42mm. This KingSpan seems to be the cheapest option I can find. A similar KingSpec on Amazon. Trust worthy? Is there a better / faster option that isn't going to break the bank? As much advice as you have is appreciated.

Hi,Would appreciate any thoughts on whether it's possible to install an M2 SSD instead of the 4G module on the 2018 X1 (i.e. installing a second ssd to expand storage). Would I have to have a particular model (e.g. with the WWAN antennas) or is that irrelevant?Any thoughts on which M2 SSD's might be compatible (https://www.laptopmain.com/laptop-m-2-ngff-ssd-compatibility-list not up to date)  Many thanks,Rehan

I've got a 4276-37U W520 and have read that the WWAN slot can be either 9.5mm or 7mm.  How can I tell which one I have? Thanks.

I have searched and so far found nothing conclusive on this, other than a couple random posts claiming that it is an option to have a 128Gb SSD as an option in the WWAN slot.  I have also seen a couple posts of people testing out several different pci nvme ssd's in the slot with no success.  I personally tested a 1TB pcie SSD and the laptop will not even power on with it in the slot - so obviously it doesn't work.  As soon as I remove the SSD from the WWAN slot, it will power on just fine as if nothing happened.  I also tried a m.2 SATA drive but absolutely nothing happens there - power on and no device recognized. I'm seeking the answer here -- is there a definitive yes/no on this question?  Can the X1C7 take a pcie nvme SSD in the WWAN slot?  If so is there a BIOS white list on which models can be used?

Hello, I'm new here! I have a T470 which I purchased with no WWAN card, and a 512gb M.2 SSD installed ... I also have a secondary M.2 SSD which I would like to install into the T470 as well. Is it possible to use an adapter to put the second M.2 drive in either the HDD or WWAN slot? I can provide more info if needed. If not, what would I need to equip myself with the install a HDD into the device alongside the currently installed M.2? Thank you very much,Ben

Per this thread, SSD is not supported in the T460 WWAN slot.  It is in some (many) other models but not the T460.
