Switch User - run a script/command

Q: Switch User - run a script/command

I have a mate who has very poor eyesight and I've just been helping him and his wife set up their new laptop (Windows 7). We found the best way for him to use it is to set the screen resolution to 800x600 but his wife doesn't need/like this setting and I was dismayed to realise that this is not a 'per user' setting.

However, I found a little utility (multires) that I can call via a .bat file stored in the respective Startup folder to set the resolution when they log on but now i am looking for a way of re-setting when they switch users as opposed to logging on but can't find a way to do this.

..anyone know of a way? is there a script that runs on a user switch event? I've done a bit of vbscripting in the past so am happy delving into that sort of stuff!!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Preferred Solution: Switch User - run a script/command

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Switch User - run a script/command

You can run the .bat from the registry (in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run key)

Create a New String value and point it at the location of the batch file.

Earlier today I turned on my Toshiba laptop (Satellite P855-S5200) and got some sort of error screen, and then it brought me to a screen asking if I wanted to do a system repair or start windows normally. I chose system repair, but then it seemed to get stuck in that process (It was taking forever and nothing was happening), so I turned off the laptop (I know, big no no), booted in safe mode, and did a system restore to a restore point from about a week ago. The "starting Windows" screen came and went, no problem. Everything seemed fine till I got to the User Selection screen (the default blue one with the little hummingbird or whatever). Then it just sat there on that screen. I could see the hummingbird and the little squiggly lines, but there were no buttons to click my user. I just let it sit there, and after about 5 minutes, the user names popped up, and I was able to continue using the computer without any problems, no other speed issues whatsoever. It now makes me wait every time, always about 5 minutes, before the user names pop up. It does this when I restart the machine and when I try to switch users.

It is a Pentium Core i7
2.3 Ghz
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Let me know if you need any other specs.

Any ideas?

A:Windows 7 takes forever to load the select user/switch user screen

Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start.

The steps begin with disinfection from Safe Mode or boot disk, since if Win7 is badly infected it may not repair until cleaned up. Then everything possible to start it is sequenced.

I would also do the hardware tests provided before rescuiing the data to run Recovery or get the superior Clean Reinstall.

On windows 7 professional 64-bit sp1,
if a current user is screen locked, the lock screen indicates the current user name and account is logged on and the computer is locked. I am using Classic Logon in group policy,
and under local policy-security options-interactive logon i have it set to display username and account info (the option with most information).

the problem i have is say a user is logged in and then I need to use the computer,
at that point the lock screen says so and so is logged in and locked,
I do a switch user, log in and do my thing, then log out.
Now the screen goes back to the base login screen saying 'ctrl-alt-del' not saying any user is currently logged in.
Now if that original user does log back in, all his stuff is still here and everything acted like a basic screen lock happened so no problem there... but what i want to happen is after a switch user logs out the screen goes back to the lock screen displaying who has the computer locked. is there a way to do that?

A:Switch User then logoff, back to ctrl-alt-del login not previous user

At a guess, I'd say Classic Logon is the culprit here, as I do not have this issue with Windows 7 64-bit SP1 with the default login screen. Changing this is likely impractical next to the simple solution of ditching Classic Logon (It's an ancient artifact by now)

A:iTunes & sounds keep playing even when user logs off using Switch user

Could be because of Fast User Switching. That really doesn't Log Out the other user. It just Switches users, as in both are still logged in.

Try Logging out the other user.

Hi everybody
My computer has just started this one in the last week or so. Not sure of the exact trigger or exactly when.

I can be logged on as any valid user on the system. When I try to switch user using the standard methods, after selecting a user account it says that there is already a user logged in and that I can only have one user logged in.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and have been running it successfully (and being able to switch users) for several years now.

Is there anybody that can point me in the right direction as to where to look for this one?
Many Thanks

I have a computer in the breakroom at work, which is running Windows 8. We normally don't use W8, so I am new to it. Apparently an employee logged into the computer with their personal account, then left the company. The screen shows her account logged in, with a blank password box, and no option to switch user. A reboot of the machine comes back to the same screen.

I was able to get into the Advanced Boot Manager and go into Safe Mode, but the same user login screen comes up in Safe Mode also.

I just need to get this user logged out and get back to the main login screen so that anyone can login to the machine. This is a simple step in W7, just can't seem to get it done in W8.

I was trying to find what's happening in registry via sysinternals Process Monitor, but did not see anything interesting. Then I found that a value HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse\MouseSpeed switches between 0 an 1 when I check/uncheck this in control panel, but it is probably not the only thing! I use a program called "Texmod" for a number of games to modify their textures. Texmod doesn't support command line switching through it's own, so the game client refuses to work. A file called aaw7boot, which is a windows command script type file, appeared in my C drive. I am not sure what this is, or how to remove it, and neither Spyware Doctor or Adaware is locating this. I found it when I got home at about 4:00 or 4:30. Adaware was already on my computer, fully updated to their Anniversary edition. I recently installed the free version of Spyware Doctor to try to get rid of that virus. The internet has been running at a slower speed than usual. This computer also wirelessly connects to two other computers, one a desktop, and one a laptop. It used to also connect to my sister's laptop, until she was affected with a virus that will not let her go on the internet; she is blocked off by an ad for antivirus 360, and we know it's a rogue antivirus program. We plan to have that fixed later.
This may have something to do with my updating Adaware, though that doesn't explain why the internet is working so slowly.
Of course, this may be me being paranoid. If so, I am very sorry for wasting your time. My sister can't even use her computer anymore, and with my computer slowing down, and the problem where google said that the / key was related to malware...
Thanks for your time, whatever the results are.

Seems like in Windows Seven there's no way to add a command line switch when setting up default programs?

What I'm trying to do is ensure that Chromium is always opened with this command line switch: -allow-outdated-plugins

I have it in the shortcut pinned to taskbar. All is fine until I open a page via association when the browser isn't open. Chromium has Flash built in. I have it disabled. So without the switch I'm going to keep seeing "your plugin is outdated" blah blah.

I don't understand why command line params when setting up file types has been removed.

A:use command line switch when browser opened via association?

hmmmmm, this seems to be working. I went to HKCR key for .html and got the value. Searched on that to get the command string. It was
"c:\path\Chromium\chrome.exe" -- "%1"

I changed it to
"c:\path\Chromium\chrome.exe" " --allow-outdated-plugins " "%1"

Note the empty space at the start and end of the allow param.
If you just stick the allow part after a space after the exe it won't work. It needs these 3 quoted groupings. At least by trial and error it works for me.

(Use ERUNT or restore point to back up registry before these edits in case browsing gets broken from messing with it.)

Our objective is to disable "IPv4 Checksum Offload" property from all network adapters via command.
We searched a bit on the internet and found such a command for Powershell, compatible starting with Windows 8 libraries:
Set-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty (Get-NetAdapter | where status -eq 'Up' | select -ExpandProperty name) -DisplayName "IPv4 Checksum Offload"
-DisplayValue "Disabled" ?NoRestart
On Windows 7 we upgraded to Powershell 4.0 and tried the commands again but Windows 7 does not seem to have the needed libraries.
The only way we found in Windows 7, is to disable the property via registry but it does not seem to work properly:
new-ItemProperty -force -Path HKLM:\\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters -Name IPChecksumOffloadIPv4  -Value

Is there a way to add specific libraries in Windows 7 to use those commands: Get-NetAdapter, Set-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty etc. or another way to disable the "IPv4 Checksum Offload" from command?

Thank you very much,

A forum moderator of Microsoft Community has suggested that I repost my question here.
What I need to do is to find a way to switch users automatically right
after the main user account has logged in (when Windows 8 start-up process is over). The sequence should be like this: booting the OS -> logging into the main user account -> logging it off -> logging into another user account.

Since the edition of the OS is non-pro I cannot use scripts involving Group Policies Editor nor can I resort to the commands provided by 'quser' which is missing. From my understanding,
'Tscon' allows to switch to a user who's already logged in, and 'tsdiscon' just gets me to the Logon Screen.
If there's no other way to switch users via the Command Prompt what 3rd party software would you recommend that's capable of switching users and has a CLI so that I could use
it with Windows Task Scheduler?

(Have been looking into the problem for three hours.. to no avail)

Hi everyone,
In our organisation we are using wireless displaying technology to mirror devices onto our TV's. At present we are having troubles because of a Cisco VPN client we use on our machines. I have narrowed the problem down to the 'Deterministic Network Enhancer'
which is installed with the Cisco VPN which is linked to each network adapter.
I was wondering if there was a way to create a batch file which disables the deterministic network enhancer on each network adapter, I will also need one to turn it back on.
If you need further info please let me know
Thanks in advance

A:Disable Deterministic Network Enhancer for wireless adapters via command line script

Hi Mark
since I have limitation knowledge regarding related product which caused this issue, I suggest you contact Intel for WiDI and Cisco regarding this VPN client
There supposed to be workaround that will fix this issue, I suspect this is maybe caused by version only, try to contact Cisco regarding which version that not conflict with WiDi, if still persist I suggest contact Intel why this certain version caused WiDi
What im suggest:
1. From the hardware site, make sure you have the latest update for processor, graphic card, and network related driver. PC manufactured site supposed to be have this files
2. From the Cisco side, other than update the DNE, ask Cisco regarding which version that might be work with WiDi
3. From the Intel side (WiDi), ask them how to configure this thing so it will not conflict with your Cisco VPN client
I also think this issue will be solved by upgrade driver (related to network), I cant make sure if certain version of Cisco VPN Client will be conflict with WiDi, that's why I suggest you to contact both Cisco and Intel
Please let us know the update, you reply might be help for the others
good luck

I have been using this script for some time now, and occasionally I get duplicate users, mostly because communication is to late. So I wanted to add 2 message windows (llnexists and llnexistsyes) I wanted to run llnexists right after the username check(line
