I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys,I brought the above laptop on Friday 12th August from Argos, I used it for the first time and noticed that the power cable / charger wasn't working, I tried it on several different power points through out the the house. i went on Argos live chat who advised me to take it back to store, so I did - expecting no fuss and for them to simply swap it over. Instead, they advised me to contact HP helpline or even buy a new charger!! I was extremely annoyed so walked out. I have been in touch with HP and received the following message: 'This product is no longer serviced by HP' ..Really helpful!! Any advice? Thanks

Hi
I am Viren Kumar Gupta from New Delhi, I purchased Dell Inspiron 15R 5559 on 1/11/2016 and posted a complaint about faulty speakers at 6/11/2016 ( Crackling sound from one side of the speakers ). After doing a good back and forth with the customer support in diagnosing the fault and trying to fix it, Dell decided and supported me with the replacement of the product. They gave me a quotation for Dell Inspiron 15 5567 which is a notch better than the previous one. The only difference (Upgrades) were in the graphic card and the processor. I received the replacement laptop today ( 3/12/2016 ) around 1 PM and i was working on it for almost 2 or 3 hours, trying to figure out why my screen (FHD - Full high definition) is whitish and bright, like white cover on the screen, less of colors and more of whiteness when brightness is increased which wasn't the case with my previous (to be replaced) laptop (FHD), there is also a yellowish tint when looked from an angle. I compared another Dell product (FHD) laptop with the replacement laptop and i could clearly see the difference. I am attaching the screenshots of the difference. Left one is a Dell product with FHD Screen and the right one is the Inspiron 15 5567.
I have mailed the support team and i will definitely call them as well on Monday.
Forget about the inconvenience that has been caused to me this whole month for a purchase of 80,000 INR worth laptop

I was using my laptop last week and closed the lid when I was finished and had shut it down. When I reopened it an hour later to work again I turned it on and got a screen that was all grey but changing in shade like it was spreading from left to right. Then a few seconds later when the HP logo usually appears the screen appeared to show 4 images of the screen (one in each quarter of the screen) and all are moving/vibrating with lines across them and incorrect colouring. ??????? The laptop was not dropped and was barely even moved between the two times of usage. I don't know if it's just an internal cable connection or the screen itself that's faulty but I am abroad now in Namibia and having only just turned the power on to see the screen the repair center I went to said it needs a new screen but they only do non-touchscreens.  If they go ahead with replacing the touchscreen for a non-touch will the laptop be able to accept that? Obviously sadly I'll lose my touchscreen functionality... Many thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi everyone,

I've had a search through the posts on the forum, and haven't really come up with anything to answer my question. I do apologise if I have missed it though!

Basically, I have installed Win 7 Prof Upgrade (from XP) on my MacBook via Bootcamp. However, this MacBook has developed a fault and is being replaced by Apple, who are sending me a new laptop.

My question: will I be able to reinstall the Win 7 upgrade (once XP is installed again of course) on my new laptop?

I'd appreciate any help or advice, many thanks in advance!

Probably it's possible, if it's not a OEM version. I have r?install Windows 7 on a new HDD and I was able to reactivate with Winupdate.

I had bought a HP 15ay008tx laptop in October, 2016 and the battery had a manufacturing date of June, 2016. The problem is that HP Battery Check is not showing any sort of problem in the battery, but in reality, the battery is continuously degrading. The battery loses 20% charge overnight even when it is switched off and the battery backup has degraded to almost half of the starting and that to is degrading fast. I would like to know if my battery is still covered under warranty and how to i go about getting it replaced by HP.

I just recived my Spectre x360 - 15t CTO and so far I am happy with it.  I would like to get an additional charger so I can have one at both places I will use it.  The charger/adapter that came with it was marked 90 Watts and has a USB-C connector for power delivery.  All the HP and third party chargers I can find either don't have the 90 Watt output or don't the USB-C connector. What is the part number and cost of the HP charger/adapter that came with this computer?  Can I buy it from the HP store?Does this machine really need a 90 Watt power supply, or would a 45W or 60W be adequate (those are easy to find)?Apple sells a 87W power supply (but it's pricy), would that work? Thanks.

My hdd is faulty and can fail anytime, it is also confirmed by the Dell Support Executive. Dell's SupporAssist application was also giving me notifications about my failing HDD from quite sometime now. They had dispatched a new HDD for replacing the faulty one so we are good. But the problem is that I have some huge programs installed on my current faulty HDD, 3 virtual systems (oracle virtual box) and some other settings and I dont want to loose all that. Installing windows and updates will also consume a lot of time.

I made a system image backup after I learned about my HDD's situation but what I actually want to know is - as the image was made from a faulty HDD wouldn't that render the image itself being faulty. Can the image that I just created damage the new HDD also or will i be fine in restoring this HDD's (faulty) image to the new HDD.

I dont want to damage the new HDD.

If there is any other solution to my problem please do mention that as well.

Thanks in advance..

The charger for my Lenovo Y50 stopped working a couple of weeks ago, and the shop sent it in for me and i got a new because of warranty. However, after i got home and opened it, i realised this is not the same one i originally had... I used a 20V 6.75A that came with the laptop. Now they gave me a replacement that is 20V 4.5A. So when i do plug it in i get a message that the adapter has limited support and performance will be affected if the power adapter cannot provide enough charge. I went back to the shop and the guy at the counter said it did not matter and told me not to worry... Thoughts? Can it harm my laptop if i use the 90W instead of the 135W?  Am i not supposed to get the same 135W charger when its on warranty?  It seems very odd to me.

Hey so my charger broke pretty quick and was way too short in the first place. I've bought non-brand replacements for samsung tablets but they don't charge fast enough to have any effect if the laptop is turned on, so it only prolongs usage until the battery runs out.
I've only found one website that offers a toshiba brand replacement charger but there are no product descriptions or images so I don't know what I'm buying, and searching the product name gives me no info.
Where is a reliable place to order a replacement charger that will actually work?

Off-post topic I worry there may be something wrong with the actual battery life as it often shows incorrect battery percentages, and just now on a supposed 50% ot has turned off and will not turn back on - is this something that can be covered under a warranty?

Hi all. I looked at the battery wear indicator as reported by CPUID's HWMonitor for the first time in a while and noticed that my battery (FRU #00NY493) is 11% worn.  It was manufactured in 08/23/2016, and first used in October of that same year.  When I investigated extending my warranty last fall, I was told that the product service life/life cycle would end in 3Q 2020 (October, I think). The support person either inferred or outright stated that Lenovo will thereafter neither make nor sell parts for the P50. When I looked up the FRU I found that this is, according to the website, a "ThinkPad Battery 77+ (6 cell, 90Wh)"Power manager 6 says I have 411 cycles on this battery, while CPUID HWMonitor statesDesigned Capacity: 90000 mWh
Full charge Capacity: 80870 mWhWhen it arrived, its capacity was something in the 92000+ mWh range. My questions are:Is this battery used by any newer P-series laptops, in which case they might manufacture this part longer than others.Would the battery from one of the newer laptops fit in my P50, in which case I could just buy a newer battery if this suddenly dies in 2 years. If so, which one(s)?Is this something where I ought to go out and spend $123 in midsummer to have an identical replacement or two on hand a few years?  (I had a T40 that ate about 6% of the battery a year, so I expect that this might age at the same rate, but I use this laptop far more, so I really do not know.)  If so, would the battery ... I have searched this site and online and cannot find any info about how to order a replacement wall charger for the Yogo 900 13 ISK2 laptop!  Lenovo doesn't sell them and has no info about when or if they ever will.  Amazon has the usual iffy Chinese products, but I've read too many accounts of those sparking up, frying the motherboard, etc. to even try them. I've had trouble with this particular wall charger from the get-go: The cord is too short and forces me to sit in an awkward place if I want to use the laptop while charging.  Also, the plug is absurd--it's designed just so it does not stay in the wall socket.  Its frequently hanging out and as a result, my laptop is not charging.  And now I seem to have intermittent connection problems, so I can never assume it's charging.  I frequently have to wiggle the cord to make it connect. This is unbelievable.  The lack of support on this issue alone is remarkable.  (Oh yeah, I looked on the Encompass site...nothing there either).  I will not be purchasing a Lenovo again. Will not be purchasing a Lenovo again.

The headphone port on my Thinkpad z60m 2529 rcu produces "uneven" sound. When I plug in my computer speakers, depending on how I wiggle the input jack the sound changes. If I hold it in the right place then the sound is as it should be. Otherwise, the sound is lower and portions of the music I am listening to is inaudible. I am tested this out on a number of songs and, as an example, I can not hear the bass guitar portions of a lot of the songs unless I put the input jack for my speakers in a very specific position and continue to hold it like that.

How do I fix this?
I was googling this and I read some forum posts about others users recommending people like me who have this problem to purchase an external audio device and do not use the internal sound card. They said it will improve the audio too. If I am not able to fix this, should I follow this route?

That is generally the most common solution as it doesn't require a tear down of the laptop. It may also not be possible to repair the broken port on the laptop or may require a new port or audio header/board. What's probably happened is the either the plastic port is broken and the connect the jack makes is poor or the pins that connect the port to the motherboard have broken loose and aren't making good contact. Using a PC Card, XpressCard, or USB sound card is generally the super fast and 100% effective fix.

My tv's hdmi ports seem to still work for say a ps3, but when hooking up to my gtx 760 I get "No Signal"?
I only have one hdmi port but several other dvi ports. My smaller monitor(plugged into dvi port 1) is functioning normally. It also seems the gpu is still functioning because I booted Dota 2 just fine with 60fps(vsync). Could this outage have fried the hdmi port? Should I be worried, should I return it or just buckle down with 2 dvi connectors? I was gonna test out hdmi to dvi cables to test my theory but am unsure what to do otherwise.

Hi there,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A660-166 purchased from Greece in November 2010 and now it the time to replace my battery and charger. Unfortunately Toshiba has made it very difficult for me to purchase or find a place where I can purchase a new battery and charger (see pictures for more information).

I live in London at the moment and it would have been a lot easier to get a replacement from here in the UK. Does anyone have the same problem or does anyone know a place in London or anywhere in the UK where I can contact and request new battery and charger?

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Panos

Hello
I recently misplaced my AC charger for my IBM Thinkpad T20 TYPE 2647(PentiumIII 700mhz 128mb ram 60g hd XP Home svc pack 2). After pricing new ones I looked to Ebay and found MANY with different specs than what is on my machine. The ID sticker shows the power requirements as 16v 3.36a. I viewed a few chargers advertising 16v 4.5a and assume they would not fry my power supply but am not sure. Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.
Thanks, Brad

They should work fine. As long as the supply is capable of providing the rated current for your machine, any excess will simply not be used. The supply will only provide the power you require, up to it's maximum capacity.

My laptop slipped off my lap and hit the ground on the charger port side with my charger still inside. Now the charger keeps slipping in and out, and when I do manage to keep it in, the "Battery" icon shows tells me that its not charging even when it shows the outlet sign right next to the battery.
I'm considering to replace the charger port soon. I'm using an Inspiron 15 5100, is the motherboard connected to the charging port?
Also, if you can answer this, (not that you have too, just if you can) how much would It cost to manually fix it vs. how much it would cost to have someone like GeekSquad to fix this?

A:Charger Port

Does DELL warranty cover the AC adapter and the charger port?
I've been real careful with my laptop but it fell on the charging side and now it won't charge.

Hi all
I know this has been posted on here many times , i have a qosmio x770-107 and the gfx card has overheated and needs a reball , no one wants to do it and ebay reballers cant give any garantee as mxm3.0b is fairly new to them and they have never reballed one before .

Its a gtx 560m what i was wandering is if i can downgrade the gfx card as im finding it hard to find a gtx 560m for less that ?250/300 and its not worth paying out that much , i can get a 470/480 gtx mxm3.0b (from alienware) and reading on here says the bios is not compatable or issues there is also a quadro 3000m/4000m or a gt540m mxm3.0 a , it seems as no one seems to have replaced these cards only someone tried to put a gtx 670m which is different chipset and newer tech?

any help would be appreciated even if its a qosmio x500 whould the gfx card work from that ? think they had a max of a gtx460m in them ??

thanks in advance simon.

A:Qosmio X770-107 - nVidia GTX 560m faulty - replacement question

I?m afraid another and different GPU will not work properly.
From my experience the BIOS will not handle such new device properly.

Of course this is just an assumption because I never tried such GPU replacement.
But according to different suggestion from people who tried to replace the notebook?s GPU, mostly its an compatibility problem between the GPU and motherboard/BIOS.

Therefore in case of GPU problems, it?s not worth to replace only the GPU because the costs are immense.

Hello- thanks for taking the time to read this. I just want some insight  before moving forward, as I'm the only remotely tech-savvy person I know (and hardly by choice) and am in desperate need for second opinions.
I have owned a refurbished Dell 780 SFF optiplex for about 4 years now- it's very spacious, a fantastic trooper, hardly ever complains. We had a series of frequent (and apparently "scheduled") power outages earlier this month one evening, but it seemed to reboot just fine. I continued using it with nothing out of the ordinary until one morning:
The power light was steadily blinking amber, LEDs 1+3 were blinking steadily green. To my understanding, the green lights indicated it registered memory, but was not getting power properly. I checked for leaking parts or anything of that short- I'm no stranger to PSU issues, and when I noticed the PSU would click with no fan when I tried to turn it on, I figured that may be the culprit. Systematically ran the PSU power test with the back green button- unplugged peripherals first, then internal hardware (HDD, CD), then finally the MOBO. The PSU light never came on, even totally disconnected. Just clicked- so I figured the power outages slowly killed it and it died after powering down. Ordered a 235w, an exact replacement, because upgrading the SFF is a chore and I didn't need to for my modest daily use.
Now, it worked. Perfectly. I plugged it all back in, I even swapped out the power strip I... Read more

A:Dell optiplex 780 PSU replacement failure after 5 hours- faulty or did i miss something?

I think your diagnosis of the power supply being the faulty part may be the issue - sounds more like a bad system board than power supply.

Hi guys this is my first post as im at a loss of what to do .
Recently my old monitor stopped working, it was using a VGA cable, but the cable is not the problem, my PC is. I bought a new monitor which requires HDMI, however the port on my PC will not respond to the cord, meaning I have no monitor :/ or anyway to troubleshoot. The only thing I can think of would be to buy a USB to HDMI adapter? But even then I would need a monitor to install the device surely. I would usually take it to the shop, but with lockdown I am lost and without a PC for the forseeable future, help would be appretiated!

A:Faulty HDMI Port- 'No signal'

Hi Warro, and welcome to TSG.

I don't think anyone here can give you much help without knowing:

1: Name of the manufacturer and exact model number of your computer and/or the motherboard.

2: Name of the manufacturer and exact model number of any video controller expansion card (the card itself, not the manufacturer and model number of the graphics IC) plugged into the motherboard.

3: The operating system running the PC.
