Finding files by date

Q: Finding files by date

This seems like the sort of thing which be so simple...

I have connected a friend's iPhone to my PC, so that I can copy some photos taken between particular dates (03-Feb-19 to 20-Feb-19). But there are many photos there, taken on many dates and spread across a large number of sub-folders of the DCIM folder. Plus the file creation dates are not always easy to organise. Putting that column in date order in Windows Explorer doesn't always put the dates in date order...

Is there a file finder which can find those files reliably?

Preferred Solution: Finding files by date

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Finding Date of creation?

Probably not the RIGHT way to do it, but since you know how to read files, you can output the dir command's results for the file, to a tempfile and then read it.

#include <cstdlib>
system("dir /TC filename.ext > tempfile.ext");

Then the first 10 characters on the 6th line of the temp file will be the created date.

Hello,

I am having issues pulling the earliest date based on 3 criteria for thousands of unique loan numbers. I have a database where I have information on the below criteria on a monthly basis which has been maintained for a few years. I want to pull the earliest year/month (YEAR_MONTH field) for each of these loans based from the following:

1) First date after the DATE_CANCELLATION Field where Condition 1 is met
2) First date after the DATE_CANCELLATION Field where Condition 2 is met
3) December 2013

Do I create a CASE statement? If so, do I put it in the SELECT or in the WHERE section? Thank you.

I'm sure it's simple but I'm struggling to work out how to get the second date in a series in Access. I have a list of customers and the dates they have been seen - I also have a table which works out the first date in the series I can't see how, it's something I've just got to use!). Is there a relatively simple expression which would find the next date after that one/the second in the series?

Thanks

A:Access - Finding second date in a series

sazzra, welcome to the Forum.
I am afraid you are wrong, it is not simple, which is why you are struggling.
I think it can be done with 2 Queries, one to find the first date and then one to ignore the first date and find the second.
However can you be more precise about the date position, when you say the frist date in a series, do you mean the "Earliest date" or the "Latest date" as being "first"?

I am trying to find the manufacture date for pcs that I cannot physically look at, but have the service tag numbers.  Is there an link other than looking at the warranty.  That only shows the ship date, not manufacture date.  Thanks!

A:I need help Finding the manufacture date from the service tag number

The shipping date is essentially the same as the manufacturing date - bear in mind that in recent years, Dell systems are built under contract with ODMs (Foxconn, Pegatron, Wistron, etc).  Dell hasn't manufactured systems itself in years - so the ship date is all there is.

It seems that file backup software resets the file created date to the date of the backup; in this case the critical files are .CAD (AutoCad) files, and I need to know when the project began. It was several years ago, and I do not recall the backup programs that were used, and old HDs were wiped; recovery attempts indicate - no .CAD files or fragments. Is there a way to find or restore the original file created date...?

A:restoring, or finding. the original 'file created' date

Try right clicking on the file, click on properties, and you should see the create date, as well as the last modify and access dates. This works for many types of files, although I don't know about .cad files. I use Ghost for backup, and it shows the last date modified by me, not the software (right click/properties is not available for the backup file).

If you don't have the file on your computer separate from the backup copy, depending on your backup software, you might be able to restore the file to a different location so as not to overwrite you current copy, then look at its properties.

Just started using Belarc Advisor.
Glad to see some threads with information about it... like the security score question.
I was going there next.

BUT... Here is my question:
Belarc is telling me that my Flash Player (Firefox, I assume... hmmm... I'll need to check MSIE).
is out of date and vulnerable. See screenshot....

belarc.jpg.

But checking Firefox, and Installed Programs, they both say I have the latest version.
See Flashplayer.jpg.

Any advice?

===Add / Edit ===
Looks like it was Microsoft Internet Explorer version that was out of date.
Trying to get it to update now.
So... we can keep or delete the thread, as mods think best! Thanks.

I think what happened. Sunday night began a manual backup by trying to select entire My Docs and copy to laptop DVD R/W drive disk. Computer said it would take 2 days so 35 mins in I cancelled. It said there was a large set of temp files and I could retain or remove, I removed.

Went to bed.

Next day 11:04 am ran a malware prgm called CacheCleaner. Have run it 1000+ times and no issue this time.

Few days later go to access Quicken - no can do. File is damaged. Went to open my budget file in excel, says" file is in a different format than specified by the file extension. ..." Open it anyways, its completely empty. Go to open a MS word doc, cannot open, says there are problems with the contents. PDF problems too.

Every file has been mysteriously updated Date Modified to 1/4/2010 11:04am. None will open. Any file not dated 1/4/2010 11:04am opens fine.

Was there some temp pointer type file created during my aborted backup operation that was then deleted when I emptied my temp files etc when I ran Cache Cleaner.
This is horribly impactful b/c my last backup is old. Please help if you can.....
Thanks

(Running Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1)
I'm a professional photographer and have recently begun shooting with two cameras simultaneously at events. They use different file names to avoid duplicate names/confusion, i.e. IMG_175000 and XMG_175000. Often times I'll take a photo with one camera and then take a photo immediately after it with the other camera and I'd like both of these images to be organized in the same subfolder and shown sequentially, but by default Windows Explorer lists all the "XMG_######" photos at the end and the IMG_###### photos at the beginning. I can manually sort each individual folder by going to "Sort by - Date" or even better, selecting "Sort by - More... and putting a check mark next to "Date Taken" so that it shows up in the Sort options (which it doesn't automatically) and then sorting by Date Taken, but since I'm dealing with hundreds of subfolders with hundreds of thousands of photo and video files I'd like a way to do this for all the files in these subfolders that isn't manual.

Is there a way to make Windows Explorer automatically arrange every file (both image and movie files) inside the various subfolders inside one root folder by Date or Date Taken instead of automatically always sorting them by name?

Thanks in advance!

A:Making files in subfolders sort by "Date" or "Date Taken" by default?

Hello XMGING, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could set a folder how you like it, then use the method in the tutorial below to apply it to all folders that use the same folder template.

this is a bit of an embarrassing question but please bear in mind that I am a novice at this. I understand about FTP but how do you actually find FTP files in the first place? Is there a search engine in the same way as for normal website pages? Or do you just look for the FTP option when you are downloading files?

Thanks for your help.

Jamie

A:finding FTP files

FTP is File Transfer Protocol. As such, it is a definition for a mechanism to transfer files over a network.

So, there aren't any "FTP Files" since you could theoretically FTP any file.

I believe you're referring to "FTP Sites". Usually, FTP sites are maintained by businesses or individuals who would like to allow people to transfer files to or from them quickly - using FTP. Usually these sites are technical or scholarly in nature - like a computer company having update files on it's FTP site. There will usually be a link on a companies home page. Or a user might have an FTP server with MPEG or MP3 files on it available for download.

As stated, you usually have to be told of the existence of an FTP site or server. You could just "gues" however, this is the hard way.

FTP is "quicker" than using HTTP although file transfer is possible with both.

Modern browsers are capable of changing from HTTP to FTP pretty seamlessly to the user.

Older users (like me ;) or "power users") sometimes prefer the command line FTP which can give a little more control over the intracacies of the protocol. Some programmers have built this into GUI FTP programs such as WS-FTP.

Hope this helps.

I'd appreciate a little help with a problem I'm having in finding files. I suspect it might have to do with Libraries which I don't fully understand.

Could anyone point me in the right directions?

If you click "Start", "Computer", there is a "Search" window in the right corner. You can put the file name (Blue.mp3) or if you don't know the file name, put *.mp3

It will bring them up.

Is there any reason when I do a search for files on my PC, as in START/FIND/FILES or FOLDERS that it doesn't find the files that I have saved within Outlook Express?

For instance, I know SOMEWHERE in my OE I have an email with an attached jpg. in it named PhillyJimmy in it.... but when I do a search of my hard drive (C) it will not find the file. Shouldn't find files or folders find that file name if it's exact?

Thanks

A:Finding files within OE...???

Hey BigDave

Yes, there is. OE is a database program - your emails are not files, they are information stored within the index files (.DBX). The only way to use search to find something there is to specify what text you are looking for in search. And for files, you would enter *.dbx.

However, if you know it is in a folder in OE, you can use the "search" included in OE.
Click Edit->Find Message In This Folder. If it stops at a possible email and it is not the one, pressing F3 will make it continue the search until it has gone through a folder.

I posted about missing files after malware cleanup seperately because i don't want to combine the two. I have a question about how to get rid of files i see in my Secunia psi program but never see them listed in windows uninstaller, Revo uninstaller or even Iobit uninstaller .

Thank you very much, the help is truly appreciated.

A:finding files

Hello -Since you have no record of Malware Cleanup at this forum, could you please tell or link us to that particular item -I think that one minor problem may be related to the IObit programs installed on your system. It is unfortunate that this program / company has a habit of confusing some of your files, and makes them hard to find. The first / best option is to remove IObit from your computer. Next uninstall Secunia PSI Version 3 if that is what you use. Then you can install Secunia PSI Version 2, and not use the latest Version 3, that is a bit more complicated. You may find the earlier version of Secunia is much easier to manage, and easier to handle for many people (me included).Thank You - EDITED to add Secunia 2 Link -

*I'm not computer saavvy so please forgive me if I have a hard time describing my problem*

Hey everyone, recently my computer crashed (HP with Windows XP) and I had to reboot my computer, luckily my computer retained most of my files (everything in My Documents, and the HP PAVILLION (C:) etc etc). However, I had a substantial amount of files (mostly media, music) stored in a file on my desktop and as I had worried/expected the file was gone and all of its contents. Now heres where it gets tricky.

My hard drive right now is missing about ~60 gigs which roughly corresponds to the missing data! It says I have about 18 gigs of space left when I should have closer to 80.

I tried running a search for the missing files but the Windows search only goes through the standard folders like My documents etc. It's as if the files are there but there is no file path and they are just floating around in my hard drive somewhere inaccessible.

Is there anyway I can get these files back (without paying $70 for some lame file recovery program) or at the very least get my HD space bacK?

Any help appreciated. Thank you

But my biggest issue is to find the personal files(movies/pictures etc.) from that account, since my hard drive still is almost full they gotta be somewhere. But I can't find them anywhere no matter how I search.

Aren`t they going to your downloads folder, set it up so all your downloads will go there, it`s the default location in Windows 7, unless you`ve changed it.

In Chrome it`s in Settings/Advanced Settings/Downloads

Set it to download files to the downloads folder. You can always move them someplace else later.

Could someone give me some advice re: how to just have one set of files and folders, like I had in XP? I'd gladly pay you ...

A:Finding my folders and files

The actual folders are in C:\Users\(your user name)\. The Libraries will link to those folders. HomeGroup does too I think, I don't use HomeGroup and always leave the HomeGroup that's created automatically so there is no HomeGroup. If you open the Charms Bar (Windows logo key + C), click Settings > Change PC Settings > One Drive. Then turn "Save documents to OneDrive By default" Off. All your files will then be saved locally.

I recently added a new hard drive as my C drive as the old SCSI drive was totally full and left the original drive in the machine now ID'd as "D" Drive. I am now manually adding back my apps and cannot find any of the previous music/Ebooks/ ect files. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to how I can relink all the previous files to the new install of Itunes?

Hello everyone,
my computer was attacked by vx2 malware, i tried everything to remove it but nothing worked, i was forced to reboot my computer twice. now i have lost all my work. i was wondering if i could retrive some files from my first installation.

thank you for your help

A:need help finding lost files

Did you do a clean install of the os? If so, there MAY be a chance using data recovery software. Some are free and some are not.

If you did not clean install the os, can you see your files / work?

Have you done a search for the files you want?

I have changed OSs. Went from XP to Windows 2000 as is more stable for my press publishing needs. I copied my .pst contact list from msoutlook to a disk with the thought of copying it into msoutlook in wk2000 however I can't find the .pst file to copy it into. Could someone help me? I searched for .pst files but to no avail.
thanks

Hey all. Just wondering if there was a very easy and simple way to find the number of files and directories that are listed within a hard drive for Windows XP. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Hello Blizz,Your situation seems very similar to the one described in the following recent thread here at Bleeping Computer:"Where are all my files?":http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...t&p=1029754

Strangely your editor does not allow me to enter a title Using Firefox.

Hello again,

No matter which undelete programme I try, not one of them will ever find a deleted file.

I copy a file to a directory on C: or D:, delete it and then empty the Recycle Bin. Whatever application I care to use, the file, which is very unlikely to have been overwritten, can not be found. No trace of it ever.

The undelete applications are on drive Z: so that running the undeleter should have no effect on drive C: or D: where the deletion has been done.

Is there something wrong with my discs, or is it the security app ? It worked in XP !

Regards

Install the recovery software on the C: drive, the drive that has the OS on it.

Not familiar with W2000PRO.

Checked out Disk Cleanup, and it displays 14,581KB of Compressed Files.

Q#1. How/where can these files be found?

Q#2. Is it safe to just delete the Compressed files with Disk Cleanup?

Thanks for the help.

A:Finding Compressed Files

I don't have 2k but I would think if you do a full drive Search for either *.zip or *.cab it might turn up something in the way of compressed files.

I certainly wouldn't recommend deleting them until you know more about them unless they happen to be in one of the Temp folders. Even then it's good policy to send them to the Recycle in for a reasonable period before dumping them.

For a comparison, I'm running XO Home and I currently have 185 .zip files and 85 .cab files. Given that yours are only 14 Megs, I would just leave them alone if I were you.

Not sure if this is the right forum...

I have alot of extraneous files hidden deep inside folder after folder, I want to be able to find all files that are NOT .wav, .mp3, .aif, .aiff, .rx2 and move them into a new seperate folder, leaving only those files type in the folders. Afterwards I would like to delete all empty folders.

Any suggestions?

Guys,
I am running XP pro SP3, 3.2GB pentium dual core, 4096 Ballistic ram.

over the last few days I have been having issues.. when I open my computer I get the looking for files torch for maybe 15/20 minutes before my drives appear? It is now getting worse... I went to do a reg clean and clicked on backup first and I always save files to same directory, I clicked on the browse button and it has now been stuck for 25 minutes.

I have tried to start bitdefender scan but it wont start, last scan was early hours of this morning and no issues were found.

Any ideas
