Acer laptop with HEADSET jack does not recognize my headset

Q: Acer laptop with HEADSET jack does not recognize my headset

I have an Acer Aspire V 15 (V5-591G-55pv) laptop. The laptop has a HEADSET jack (it shows a little symbol next to it referring to a headset with mic and headphone) and i have a headset that has 2 wires. 1 is for the headphones and the other is for the microphone, so i am using a headset adapter that came with the headset itself. I have used the microphone and the headset adapter on my PS4 controller and it works so the microphone is not defected. my computer does not detect my headphones but still plays audio through it, and the microphone is not detected. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I record system audio through Camtasia I get very tinny, hollow-sounding sound. This never happened on my HP Envy, and the settings are identical. My Envy didn't have a dual purpose headset/mic jack and I suspect this is the source of the problem . When I plug in headphones I get perfect recordings, when the headset is unplugged I get hollow, tinny sound as if a mic is open somewhere. I'm recording system audio, mind you. Any help would be appreciated. I love the idea of Sprout but it has given me endless headaches. ..

I have a HP Pavilion 15 Gaming Notebook; Product Number: ak199np (x4L20EA). My 3.5 mm Headset DOES NOT fit into the Jack. It only goes like halfway through then can't go any further. Today, a replacement cable I had bought for my Sennheiser PC37X headset shipped in the mail, and it hasn't exactly worked as planned. When I first got this headset with its original cable, I had a laptop with three 3.5mm jacks: two for output (headphones), and one for input (microphones). This setup worked perfectly... until that cable wore out, and I was left using the headset with a standard 3.5mm cable using a 2.5mm adapter. Since then, I've also moved to a new laptop that only has a single 3.5mm combo jack.

So, with that cable, the mic was seemingly rendered useless. I assumed that this headset's mic would only be detected by any device if it was using its original cable, which has two separate 3.5mm plugs for the headphones and mic:

So, I ordered a replacement cable, the aforementioned one that came in the mail today. Along with it, I got one of these, a 2-to-1 combiner to try and plug both ends into the same jack:

Alright, so both are here now. I plugged both ends into the combiner, the combiner into my laptop, and... this happened:

A few observations:

A) As shown above, the mic still just flat out isn't detected;
B) The sound quality in the headphones is significantly worse when it's plugged in via the combiner, and might actually be in mono;
C) Even plugging the mic into the laptop alone (without the combiner, and without the headphones) doesn't allow it to be detected

It's not just a computer issue either. The problem ca... Read more

I have a regular headset, and I bought 2 adapters: a 3.5mm female - usb female and a usb male-usb male.
When I bought this i thought about plugging my headset into the adapter and the double male usb, so I could listen to music in my headset while having them plugged into the USB port. Sadly, it doesn't work. I don't know if I have to install something, but when I plug everything in all I hear is noise from the left part of my headset.

I am using this (or trying to) use this configuration because my pc's 3.5mm jack doesn't work.

Can anyone please help me?

Thank you in advance,

I have a pair of Astro A40's with no mixamp so theres a cord that runs from the headsetto a splitter for the mic jack(pink) and line-out jack(green) and when i plug them into the corresponding ports in the backo of my computer, it won't even recognize that they are there, so i tried plugging them into the front headset and mic ports and it will recognize them but i won't hear any sound and i will keep getting a windows alert in the bottom right corner that says "you have plugged a device into the audio jack" and "you have unplugged a device from the audio jack" repeatedly. I updated my drivers for my audio card(realtek) and even took apart my computer to see if it was an issue with the actual jacks or the motherboard but everything looked good and hooked up properly, i don't know what to try from here. Please help me.

Hi all,

Hello. the only other way I know of is to get a usb audio jack, which might work better than the splitter anyway.

A few hours my headset mic stopped working on my computer and stopped picking up sound from me. It wasn't the mic's problem as it worked on another pc but not mine and was not working with Skype or any recording program. I have uninstalled the ITD Driver, loaded defaults, enabled the device and checked the volume settings with nothing fixing this problem. I am on a HP Pavilion DV7 Laptop running Windows 7 64 bit. The weird part about this is that my mic was working fine a few hours ago and then when I decided to use it again it just stopped. When I go to sound options and try to put in the headset jack in the side, the green bars light up to show that the jack is inserted, but when I talk it takes in nothing. I have tried almost everything including restoring the system to an earlier date and at this point have no idea what to do.

Help is greatly appreciate thank you!

A:Headset Mic Jack not working

Some things to check... 1. Doesn't your laptop have a built in mic? If so, see if that works. That may help narrow things down as to whether it is all audio inputs not working or just your headset input 2. Check Control Panel Device Manager to make sure you don't have any yellow exclamation points indicating a driver not installed correctly. 3. Check Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, Manage audio devices, to make sure the correct device is showing up, selected, and configured.

So three days ago I wiped all of my drives and installed Windows 10. I have a Corsair Vengenace 2100 headset. I installed the realtek drivers from ASUS download section for my motherboard and then I installed the headset drivers.

The problem is that my headset does not record anything through the microphone if I set it to be the default device for audio output. If I have my other computer speakers as the default output device my microphone works just fine.

This goes for all the USBs in the back of the motherboard. The headset works just great if I plug in the wireless reciever in the front of the computer.

I have tried to reinstall the drivers multiple times and checked a bunch of different settings in the sound manager in windows but nothing seems to work.

Have also googled all kinds of things but nothing seems to relate to my problem.

I do not have any external sound card plugged into my computer.

Thanks for any help provided!

EDIT: Can be closed as I found the win 10 forum after I made the thread. Sorry!

Okay, so I had this problem since FOREVER. I tried everything that I could find on the internet but nothing works.
I think it has something to do with realtek, because it's gone! It's not in the control panel, I can't find it anywhere except in the program list where I can delete it. I tried deleting it and re-installing, but that doesn't fix the problem.
I have used all types of different headset, headphones etc. etc. that had a jack thingy (don't know what it's called), so that is not the problem. Even if I click the white speaker (next to the time) and I go to the audio devices, it is not shown there! But when I connect my headset to my phone it works perfectly fine.
Also, I use normal speakers en a microphone with a usb, simply because the jack input doesn't work. My speakers work fine and so does the microphone
So technically my jack input thingy doesn't respond, both back and front.
This just frustrates me

I don't know much about computers, so if you could explain it to me step by step would be great

So this started about 4 days ago, but I'll start a little before then just incase there was something I may have missed.

I had my PC (custom built) working great, headset worked great - sound was crystal clear.

My hard drive failed, so I reformatted and re-installed winXP. HD works great now but my HDD light wasn't working - I switched my 300w power supply out for a 550w power supply and all the lights/fans/whatever work great now.

PC worked fine for a couple of days, and then I turn on my speakers to hear the loudest most annoying static in the world. I unplugged the headset, speakers, AC adapter, everything and realized that when my mic jack wasn't in the sound card, it was fine - when the mic jack was in the sound card, it was horrible again.

My PC case has a speaker/mic port up front - so I opened up my computer, put all the pins where they belong (according to the manufacturer's manual) and tried the front ports - same exact thing. Works great until the mic is plugged in.

I then thought maybe my 550w was creating too much electromagnetic whatever, so I switched back to my 300w (bye bye cool lights... *sniff*).

Guess what? Still has static. I've tried other headsets, and there's still static - and I've tried these headsets in another computer and they work great. Any clue what might be causing this problem??

Hi, I have a problem with my front audio jack. The cause of this problem may or may not be the DAW reaper. I set my front headphone jack on my laptop as reapers input and the speakers on the laptop as its output. This did not work so I uninstalled the program. I tried to use my headphones but there is nothing. I uninstalled all the drivers for Realtek and reinstalled them. I have also tried system restores, 4 times. They keep failing regardless of whether Avast is off or not. The speakers work, and when the headphones get plugged in (they work on my phone and other PC's in the house perfectly fine), they are recognized by Dell Audio. The problem is, the only thing in the playback tab in sound (hidden or not) is speakers and a monitor I don't want to use. Can anyone help me diagnose the problem? I really want to use my headphones again.

Headphone model: SkullCandy Crushers
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 3537

A:No sound at all through headset jack just static

The "headphone" jack on this model can be a Headphone jack, a Microphone jack or a combination. I couldn't find out what type of plug is needed, whether it uses an iPhone type 4 connection plug or a standard 3 connector plug. That may be one problem.

Second, set the Stereo Mix as the default recording device. Then whatever is used will be heard by the speakers and a recording program, providing stereo mix is set as the source. You also need stereo mix if you want to record audio from the Internet.

I have a recording studio (Sonar) but use a separate USB connected recording interface unit, not the PC's sound card.

Hello, i'm planning to buy the razer kraken pro very soon, and i was wondering if it would work on my laptop, the headset itself comes with one 3.5mm audio jack, so i was wondering if the audio and microphone would work on my laptop in one jack i have the HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PCi also do have this icon next to my audio jack so i guess it supports audio and microphone in one?

A:Headset with single jack would it work or not?

Hi, Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for choosing HP. As most new computers nowadays, you have only 1 3.5 mm jack, so if your headset has 2 pins (1 mic and 1 audio) - they cannot work (and at the same time). Please, check these threads and articles:>> http://www.howtogeek.com/180395/how-to-connect-a-headset-to-a-laptop-tablet-or-smartphone-with-a-sin...>> https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/W520-No-microphone-jack/td-p/411081 You may need to get an adapter like these:>> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004SP0WAQ/?tag=hotoge-20 Personally, I recommend you seek for a headset with USB connector - it is one connector only for both the audio and the microphone - example:   Hope this helps Happy holidays !

I have a Lenovo Yoga 910 Glass. I have reviewed the following:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Displays-Options-and-Accessories/Microphone-Headset-Jack-splitter-neede... And other posts on this topic.  I have purchased a splitter similar to that shown in the link above, but when I plug mine in only the audio output is recognized.  I wish to use the splitter to have the output go to aux speakers and the input be a line input.  However, I can find nowhere that I can "turn on" the line input part of the splitter.  Only the output to speakers works. It worked the first time I plugged it in and hasn't worked since.  As if some setting got changed that now I can't find. Thank you for your help!

the topic pretty much says it. I bought myself a new headset(C-media headphone set or something) which uses a USB-port instead of an original sound-port-thing. The problem is, whenever I plug the headset in the USB-port pretty much nothing happens and I can't get the sound in the headset, it just stays in the speakers...

It used to be no problem when I used a headset with the sound-port on the motherboard to just change it. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do? :(

edit: forgot to say that it works just fine after rebooting the computer.

Thank you

Hi Foonksh,

Try going into the Control Panel and go into Sounds and Audio Devices. From there you can pick the default device for recording and for playback. In the playback section, set the headset as the default device instead of your speakers.

I am knew on the board. Greetings

I installed a NEW Logitech USB Headset 350 onto my Winows XP Service Pack 2 generic 'puter.

It sorta looks like I have no speaker drivers .

Unplugging the headset does not help.

Anybody know how to fix this problem so I am not forced to wear a headset for audio ALL OF THE TIME ?

A:Installed new USB Headset NOW no speaker audio even if I unplug the headset

Yeah, my USB headset was a little weird at first as well.

Try going into your volume control (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control):
1. Click Options
2. Properties
3. Change the mixer device from the USB headset to your speakers.

Should work.

Also should note you can change the output settings in most audio software (for example: Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.) so if you can't hear anything from your speakers when using those programs, try fiddling with those settings as well. I know for Winamp it's Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > double-click the plug-in you use (mine is out_ds.dll) and again change it to your speakers using the drop down menu.

I can't figure out how to fix this. I noticed that, when I'm watching a video, my headset's mic will relay the audio coming into my headset. Disabling Stereo Mix doesn't fix it. The physical controller that's on my headset cable doesn't stop it from happening, as even if I turn the volume knob all the way down and flick the mute switch, it's still picking up the audio. Muting my headset from within the computer stops the mic from hearing it, as does switching to my speakers that are plugged into the front jack. My headset is a 3.5mm jack type plugged into the back of the computer, directly into the motherboard.

For Christmas I got a pair of Razer Blackshark headphones/headset. It's great and the bass is kick ass. But for whatever reason Windows 7 does not recognize that I have it plugged in. I hear audio and what have you but it's using default system audio levels. So if I unplug my headset and turn up the audio and then replug them, I get my ears blasted because it doesn't auto adjust.

The funny thing is, it works fine on Windows 8.1. It is recognized as a headset and everything. Show disabled devices is enable on Windows 7 and it is not there.

Realtek Control Panel doesn't even detect it.

A:Windows Won't Recognize Headset

Hi Collin,

Try to update the drivers from here and after that try this.

1. Go to Start and click on Control Panel.
2. Click in Sound, then a new window will open up.
3. In the new windows click on the tab "Recording" and right click in the window and click on “Show Disabled devices”.
4. Now check if the Headphone is listed there and right click on it and choose enable.
5. Highlight the headphone and click on "Set as Default".

This recently acquired used Pavilion dv7-2173cl originally came with Vista and was upgraded by seller to W7 Pro 32-bit thru OEM disc set just prior to shipping.

While it has demonstrated capability to recognize new hardware insertion(external TV tuner express card, WiFi antenna booster), it fails to recognize wireless headset...and therefore I cannot add it to Bluetooth system.

My old HP Pavilion dv7-1170us with OEM Vista Home Premium did have similar problem with the same headset(unable to find driver at first, then unable to recognize later on) but thru repeated tweakings it finally worked(unfortunately I have forgotten how I did it). During the course of its functionally, the headset most often worked perfectly but sometime did not.

I am still learning this upgraded W7 system and I am hoping someone most familiar with W7 can help.

A:W7 does not recognize wireless headset

I just acquired a used Pavilion dv7-2173cl with upgraded W7 Pro 32-bit SP1.

I remember my old Pavilion dv7-1170us also originally came with factory installed SP1(Vista Home Premium 64-bit) and Windows Update automatically provided and installed SP2. It did not function fully until SP2 was installed(like IE upgrading).

Now, I am having one(so far)problem...it does not recognize BT peripheral device (my wireless headset). I wonder if missing SP2 is the reason. Windows Update is not providing/installing SP2 and Microsoft Download Center has none.

Does W7 come with SP2?

I have a Vista Home PC and two USB headsets that worked two weeks ago.

Today, I plugged in one of the USB headsets and Vista doesn't recognize it. What I mean by 'doesn't recognize it' is:

there's no announcement of a device being plugged inaudio continues to come from the speakers, not the headset
The USB hub port that I plugged the headset into works fine for other USB devices, like a cell phone, for example.
I get the same failure for both USB headsets, so it's difficult to believe that both headsets suddenly went bad.
I rebooted the PC, but still get the failure.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

My work have just given me a Dell Lattitude E7240 which has a 3.5mm 'headset' jack which i understand means it is a combined headphone and microphone jack - does this mean it functions the same as the headset jack on a mobile device? can I use the same type of headset? if so how do i configure it? to elaborate, when i plugged my headset in, i got a pop up asking me what sort of device i was using (headphone/speaker out/headset and some skull candy options) so i selected 'headset;'
when i check my sound settings i can see the green bar showing input against the mic (Jack Mic) and when i test the sound i can see the green bar moving against Realtek High Definition audio but can't hear anything through the headset  I Have nothing muted either in Dell Audio or Windows.
any tips or guidance on what type of headset i can use, and how to configure it would be gratefully received

A:Dell Lattitude E7240 Headset Jack

Hello, sorry for the delay.
The combo audio jack uses a phone headset with a TRRS plug. There might be a problem with the Realtek audio driver. To check that, switch to the Windows native audio driver and plug in the headset. With the native driver the mic probably won't work but the headphones definitely should, so if they don't then there is probably a hardware issue. In that case try other headphones or headsets and if still nothing works contact tech support for a repair if still under warranty.
To switch drivers:
1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 1 and 6.]

Anyone knows if the microphone/headset combo jack on ThinkPad P50 is a TRRS jack (Tip/Ring/Ring/Sleeve)? What I tried to do is to connect ThinkPad P50 with iPhone 6 so that one side's output is the other side's input.  So I can record the audio. From my research, iPhone's jack is TRRS spec.  I can easily find TRRS splitter on eBay, for example, here's a splitter with female plugs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371299679312 If ThinkPad P50 is using the same TRRS spec, I can just buy another TRRS splitter with male plugs. Thanks!

Hi, I'm usually a computer intermediate, sometimes a computer beginner, but for this instance, i'm computer illiterate. I've had this computer for about 1 year now, it is a Windows Vista, (I'm not sure about anything else about this computer.)

Recently, I bought a headset named the "arena soundblaster." The problem I've been having with this headset is that if I put the USB thing into the computer after the computer turns on, the sound still comes out of the speakers above me. So what I did is I looked at the bottom right corner of my screen, at the toolbar (I think that's what it's called,) and looked through all the icons and found one entitled "audio jack" (beige redish with little semicircles coming off of it, like the volume button.) So I pressed I right clicked it, and pressed on the second thing down. I noticed that it said that the sound was coming out of the speakers, instead of my headset, so I clicked disable on the speakers, thinking that that was what I needed to do to switch it to my headset, then press set headset as default. Now, I can't switch it back to the speakers, because the option of it is not availabe, nor is the icon on my taskbar anymore.

Please help me!

Hello everyone, got lenovo P1 here. So, by default internal mic works just fine. However, when you plug in the headset (for example apple airpods). It stop working. Looks like it delegates its work to the headset, but it doesn't work either. And there is no option of switching to internal only.

I have just bought the above laptop and need to use a headset for talking to my colleagues. My headset has two separate standard microphone and headphone leads, but my laptop has only one socket. Whenever I plug either into the laptop, something called SmartAudio pops up asking if it's a headphones, headset or a microphone.

I don't seem to be able to get it to work so that I can use both the headphones/microphone together, even when I select headset.

Does anyone know what I need to do please?

Recently purchased Yoga 3 Pro (Windows 8.1) from Lenovo website (2 months ago). The speaker has been working fine until yesterday. All of a sudden, the speaker stopped working, after I used the headset. Now, only headset works, and no sound can come out of the speaker. I've updated the speaker RealTek driver to a newer version 9/2014. It did not help. Does anyone have any idea on what might be the cause and how to fix it? Thanks!

With my old headset i used to have a blast recording sounds/music coming out of my comptuer directly using wave out. Often for MSN voice clips and such.

I haven't changed anything, but now that i have this new headset, the only recording i seem to be able to do is voice recording in sound recorder, i can't seem to record wave out mix on sound recorder, and can't record anything whatsoever in msn voice clips.

I can hear voice clips sent to me though, strange thing is, when someone invited me to an audio conversation earlier, i got the annoying ringing noise alright , but i couldn't hear anything.

I checked my volume controls nothing is muted.
Any help would be fantastic! Thanks in advance

I recently bought a Plantronics headset, and plugged it in my microphone jack. It says "Line IN" when I try to use it with audacity, but when I record, and even yell into it, nothing shows up on the line. My laptop has 2 headphone jacks and a mic jack. Could this be the problem?

A:Plantronics Audio .326 Headset not working on Inspiron 1525 Mic Jack

If you have plugged the microphone part of the headset into the "Mic" jack on the PC and using the "line in" to listen that is incorrect. Generally, Audacity uses the "Stereo Mix" to record. With Stereo Mix set as the default recording device any input is "heard".

Second, if you are plugging the mic into the "line In", that is incorrect and the mic will never work. A computer mic needs +5V DC to operate. The Mic in jack has the 5V, a line in does not and is a stereo (2 channel) input.

You list a Dell Desktop in your System Specs but are referring to a Dell Inspiron 1524 "Laptop". ???
