Preferred Solution: How to publish an extension using file share in windows admin center

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HI All,
We have set up three users in a home network where one person holds all the files on their PC and that folder is shared for access to everyone.  It is a remote location so no need to have it too locked down.  I haven't created a homegroup but can
if that changes things.  the issue is that at the moment two people can open the same file at the same time without any message about the file already being in use - then the rule of "last person to save the file" wins.  Is there any way
- by settings on the PC, or by using homegroup instead, or by using a third party tool - to prevent this from happening?
Thanks,
JJ

There is a user, Dad, with admin privileges on a Windows 7 machine (this is me).

There are other users, kid1 and kid2, with no admin privileges (my kids ;-) )

I want to let kid1 and kid2 access the contents of a directory in my userspace C:\Users\Dad\ . In fact it's not at the top level, let's say it's C:\Users\Dad\ownCloud\photos (because it is). I want to let kid1 have read/write access and kid2 read only access.

I navigated my way to C:\Users\Dad\ownCloud and then right-clicked on photos, clicked on properties, clicked on the sharing tab, and did what looked like the sensible thing (gave the kids the required access).

I then logged in as kid2 and attempted to find my way to C:\Users\Dad\ownCloud\photos. I got there -- but on the way I saw far too much -- kid2 can see a complete list of the names of all files and directories in D:\Users\Dad (not ideal) and also names of all files and directories in C:\Users\Dad\ownCloud (which is not acceptable, because that is my entire life in the cloud).

Is this expected behaviour when sharing directories in Windows? If not, what did I do wrong?

If so then this is no good and I guess I need a workaround. The problem is that I am not at all sure that I can move the directory, because it part of a cloud storage service (like Dropbox, but a different company) and as far as I know that directory ...\ownCloud\photos (the one I want to share with my kids) must be a subdirectory of ...\ownCloud (the one that I really don't want my kids ... NTFS Folder Permissions

I'm thinking if you create a symbolic link in C:\Users\Public you may be able to let the kids go directly to the shared folder. Perhaps then you can deny Traverse permission to block the parent folder. But I haven't done it myself.

Stoik Joker, who has the NTFS permissions page in the above link, is also a regular poster on DonationCoder.com. You may be able to ask for clarifications there. And of course someone with SysAdmin type experience may chime in here.

If you succeed using external info please post the solution.

I recently noticed a number of files in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG
(and several other system-maintained directories) that have the file
extension .rrr. Examples are sam.rrr, s-1-5-19.rrr, s-1-5-21_classes.rrr.
There are also a number of log files with similar names ending in .rrr.LOG.

Should I be worried about these files?

The earliest creation date was July 12, 2005 when I ran Windows Update
and applied the critical security updeates, so I *assume* they have
something to do with Windows security. All of them (except for sam.rrr-
which contains mostly unreadable characters) are "in use" by the system
so I can't view any of them.

Thanks for any information or advice you can provide.

I don't think XP generates any files with an RRR extention.

Maybe you installed a program that created them.

Windows Vista appears to have lost its extension information on the MP3 file type.

The problem occurs in Internet Explorer when saving a .mp3 file from any website. The Save As dialog interprets the .mp3 as a Movie Clip, .mpeg, and proceeds to save and download the file as it would any other .mpeg file. What could be causing this strange file type association in Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7? I am on Windows Vista Home Premium.

The problem continues throughout Windows Vista and Windows Explorer. When I edited the program association of .mp3 and set it to play in Windows Media Player, the description for the file read, "File: Windows Media Player file" rather than, "File: MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3" or whatever it should read normally. This leads me to suspect that a program botched the file type information on .mp3.

Does anyone have any idea how this problem might be resolved? I have tried changing .mp3 to open in various media players, but the problem appears to be with the code behind file type rather than the programs opening it; furthermore, .mp3 files play fine across all media players without any trouble.

Greetings...
Hope this post finds you well.

Just did a complete format/reinstall of XP (SP3) on my PC after a nasty virus attack.

' little history:
I've been working with both Adobe and Corel on the same box (XP) for about 5 years now.
After the recent format / XP reinstall - All apps installed flawlessly (as usual). As I was loading in my
files, images and graphics (.ai,.cdr,.psd,png,bmp etc..) salvaged from the old drive - I encountered some
anomalous crashes anytime there was a native Corel PhotoPaint file - .CPT anywhere in the explorer
window. If explorer is lucky enough to load with a .CPT file in it -
as soon as my mouse/curser enters the explorer window or near the file - The screen crashes; goes black
and then slowly reloads the desktop.
Upon crashing- it will occasionally throw up an error message: "encountered a problem blah, blah - has to close -
blah, blah - send a report".... I usually have to do a taskmanager dump of drwatsn.exe to get the message to close.

Without any luck surfing the web for a fix; I contacted Corel. Unfortunately they will offer no support because software, although legal,
is not the current version and claims it is an XP problem and not their software. (fair)

I've done several formats and XP re-installs and it continues to happen. Regardless SP2 or SP3 upgrade.

I'm trying to use PsTools to remotely send messages to clients (using the 'msg' program) regarding the network (e.g. a server is going to reboot). When using it in command prompt, it works for some machines, but for others, it errors about not being able to use the admin$ share on the target computer. I tried accessing the share via Run..., but again, it failed. The targets are all Windows XP. How do I make sure the admin$ share is accessible by the domain controller?

A:admin$ share

Usually any share with a $ on it is a default admin share and is
limited to the local computers admin acount.
You probably need to change them to standard shares by unsharing
it and clicking apply, then share it again and apply.
That should change the share to one without the $ limitation.

Ok my question is this, I am not one for the Home Groups or things like that and I don't use simple file sharing. I am Using Win7 RC build 7100. I also Have the same thing running on a very old laptop. now I have set up all the security and permissions in the advanced Security Settings and permissions for the File I am sharing that is on my Desktop PC, I use the same user-name and password for both my laptop and desktop. Windows has the in my opinion annoying auto authenticate for a system trying to connect that has the same user-name/Password. I hate this, I have spent a while pouring through the Local Security Policy, and other setting looking for a way to turn off that auto authenticate but I just cant find it.

does anyone know how to turn that off? other than changing my user-name and PW on one machine, I like having to always type the user-name and pw i do not like the auto authentication when using the same User-name and PW on two systems.

any help would be appreciated.

I have a windows XP pro network setup. However I need some files to be public (so that they can be read without a password) and some to be private (accessible only with a password).

Here is an explanation of that is going on:

I have 3 computers (to be named A,B,C)

Computer A is running windows XP pro (spanish version although it shouldn't make a difference)

Computer B is running windows XP pro (also spanish version)

Computer C (the one that needs to work) is running windows XP pro (english version)

Computer A is the computer that will be sharing the files. When the shares are completely public I have no problems whatsoever with the network. All of the computers can access and read all files. However I need some sections that are private.

Computer A has a user named Alfonso with the password (for the sake of talking): redrum. Computer C also has a user named Alfonso with the password set as: redrum. This should theoretically allow me to set the permissions on the network so that only Alfonso can access the file. Since both of the computers have the same account and password there shouldn't be a password prompt (when computer C is logged on as Alfonso). However this is not the case. When I try to access files that are in a shared folder where only the user Alfonso can access the files I get the error "you do not have access to //SALON/Nueva carpeta. It is possible that you don't have permission to access this file. Please contact the administrator of ... Read more

A:Problems with Windows XP pro file share.

The easiest thing to do, I would think, would be to create a specific user account (Limited) that someone would use to access the files. Turn off Simple File Sharing and give that new User Account Read Only Access to the Folders and Files deemed necessary.
Now, is this only internal sharing or external to the public?

Also, from the router, can you ping the desktop?

Last, dont use dhcp for a test. Instead actually statically assign the ips and see if that helps.

Hello,
I was trying to figure out a way to block admin share access over windows domain network.
These are my requirements:

Desktop Support Engineers should have administrator privileges on all domain joined windows workstation machines. Domain Users should not have administrator privileges on their workstations.Desktop support engineers should not be able to access admin share over the network.Domain Admin must have full access on Admin Share.
So I have added NT AUTHORITY\INTERACTIVE as a member of Buit-In administrators group and I have added Desktop Support Group as a member of NT AUTHORITY\INTERACTIVE.
Which actually blocked admin share access over network for Desktop support engineers. however I was not able to control Domain Users getting Administrative privileges on domain joined PCs from above settings.

How can I control this admin share access?

I have a folder with mp3s (created with my old Windows XP system). I've included this mp3s folder in the "my music" library and then I inspected the folder and took ownership of it together with everything it contains (following instructions I found on the Net).

Nevertheless, when I'm trying to delete or move a file I get the message that I need to provide administrator permission! But I thought I am both administrator and owner...

Also, when listen to the songs with WinAmp, it seems I cannon save any song data. I get: Cannot save metadata: Error opening file.

I suppose, it's an aspect of the very same problem.

What am I missing?

I downloaded the program on the home page of this site, and it said no file issues, no known problems for this file.

When I click Open File, it still shows where I had the file opened (the file name in lighter gray font - but cannot open.) The original file is in black, and I can open. But, get that message.

I also tried to open and fix - and I tried both options, with formulas, and without formulas, and all it opened was foreign characters.

Any other suggestions? Or is this file gone? Unfortunately, my most recent back up is 3-4 months old...

Thank you for your help,

I want to be able to share Administrator documents and files with user acoounts on the same computer.... without having access to the internet.

I only have one computer. But I have 7 different user accounts on that one computer. I want each of my users to have access to the Administrators documents (files and folders etc)

I went to Administrator Documents, then I Right clicked on a folder, then I clicked on Share With>specific people> I click on the user account and then I get a box saying my folder was succcessfully shared, and now I need to email a link to the specific user account.

I do all this and then switch user. I go to the users email and try to click on the link and it wont click. I try to copy and paste into the users documents, but it will not copy and paste.

I go to the user's Documents and try to see if there is a link there....but nothing is there.

What am I doing wrong?
thanks
Granny

A:one computer, 7 users accounts need to share admin documents

I looked thru HELP, but I have only a single computer. I am not trying to interact with other computers, so I cant belong to a domain, workgroup or homegroup, because all these seem to involve multiple computers.

My laptop has only ever had one admin user account with full access to sensitive information, but I have now added a non-admin account which needs occasional access to restricted content.

I want to give temporary access only to a personal folder.

It seems that once the non admin user opens the specific restricted folder (and I input my admin password), this gives permanent access to this folder. To deny access again, I have to log back into my admin account and click 'Stop Sharing'.

Is there a way to time-out access, or have access automatically suspended via switch user/log off?

Many thanks
D

A:TEMPORARILY share a folder between admin/nonadmin accounts

Instead of using Explorer you can get more control with
Net Use

Also in a command prompt run this for options list
net use /?

Hi there, I'm sat here at my mum's at the moment, and she really needs to me help fix a computer error for her I've googled and searched and can't seem to fix the error, if you could help me asap I would really appreciate it please

Basically, she has two user accounts on her pc - both set to admin. She uses admin B all the time and admin A rarely.

Admin A contains Microsoft Office (preinstalled on the pc), but she can't access it from Admin B - which is what she ultimately wants to do.

How can I set it so she can access it from her regular admin account (B)?

I hope this is clear enough and thank so much in advance of your kind help

Happy New Year

Hello,

I have been struggling to figure out a way to network my Windows XP Professional (wired desktop) with my Windows 7 (wireless laptop).

I have already gone back through the 16 pages of this forum, and tried the suggestions for Is there a way to file share with XP?, Netorking between 7 and xp;Cant get it right, Win7 Wireless PC Doesnt See Wired XP on Network, cant see xp machine under win7, and even XP to 7 Printer sharing and can see printer from xp but not 7, but to no avail. Or at least, I am not doing it right.

I've been trying to work with a 'home' network on W7, and with firewalls down on both PCs. I do not have a homegroup setup on my W7 box. Both OSs are fully patched. I shared my "Desktop folder" with everyone. When I open up the group "Workgroup" on my XP machine, I can see my W7 computer and my XP computer, but I cannot access it. I get this message instead:

A:Networking (to file share) between Windows 7 and Windows XP

Have not had a problem with this other than in build 7057, But you don't need to see the shares to access them. You can type the share names into explorer or map the drive, of course that would only help accessing the xp machine from 7. The easiest way would be to use RDP with the drives you want to access in your remote session, that way you can swap files back and forth without having to worry about permissions.
