Can't Access Server...

Q: Can't Access Server...

Well, this has been an ongoing problem for a while, and RoadRunner support says "We don't block anything here at RoadRunner", so...here's my problem:

I can't access my server, http://darkangels-rs.com. Only very seldomly can I access the front page, with just the text, no background image and no little person icon that should be there. If I refresh, I get a timeout error. Most of the time, I get a timeout error.

I'm running Windows XP SP2, the site does not load on IE7 or FF2, and I'm using RoadRunner/Time Warner Cable as my ISP (obviously.) I've checked all my trusted sites, restricted sites (unless the IP of the site is blocked, in which case I don't know it, I think it's like 216.something.something.something) and even turned off my firewalls, checked their settings, scanned for adware, spyware, viruses, and the like, reset my modem, repaired my connection, AND turned off google web accelerator, in case they were blocking it, and no dice. Anybody got any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Can't Access Server...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

On Windows7 Pro,  trying to run IIS.  The way I am used to execute is  on the browser "localhost".  I used to have the code in the directory  C:\inetpub\wwwroot.   Even before I copy,  I am hoping to see
the image IIS welcome page.  Once it is successful, want to copy the code as that was the way I used to do in Window XP.    However I am getting the following message.  I have administrator access to the machine and gave full permissions
to the folder  'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.  Still the same message.
Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.

Can someone help me to address this issue.  Thanks a lot in advance.

I have a Access 2000 database residing on one sever and an installation of SQL Server 2008 residing on another. Both servers are running Windows Server 2003. I created a linked server using the code below. When I run EXEC sp_tables_ex 'PropCont' I get the following,
"OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: The provider did not give any information about the error.].

Hi there
Why does Windows Networking always seem to hose things up ( Linux works EVERY time)

I have two computers on the SAME test private LAN one Whitehorse (W2003 server) and the other Blackdog (W8 Enterprise) both enabled "Shareable and Visible".

View from W2003 -- can see and access disks C,D, and F on W8 Computer

View from W8 - Networking shows the computer Whitehorse (W2003 server) but can't access any disks etc (or even its printer). PING even fails but W8 obviously knows it's on the Network because its found it. The stupid Windows diagnostics when you click Diagnose doesn't help at all --in fact I've NEVER found the network diagnostic panel of the slightest bit of help ever.

I've switched off firewalls etc while testing so there's no security rubbish to take care of while I'm trying to get this to work. LAN is purely LOCAL -- no computer is on "the other side" of a router.

Both machines can access independently the Internet through a Local router and connections are via LAN cable so nothing should be simpler. !! But can I get this to work !!.

I had a similar problem with W7 but it seemed to "Disappear" without me actually doing anything -- the proverbial "Ghost in the Machine" I expect.

Screenshots enc.

(Windows Networking Grrrhhhhhh! -- I'm not particularly technical with this stuff but any time I've used Networking with Linux it works STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BOX and there's no problem sharing from or to windows. !... Read more

A:W2K3 Server can access W8 W8 computer cant see W2K server

Assuming this Windows 8 Enterprise machine isn't locked down with Group Policy.

This type of problem usually requires that you change the lanman server parameters in order to get Windows 8 working with older servers. Do these adjustments on the Windows 8 machines that needs to connect to the server.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

Reboot all machines after making the adjustment.

There are two separate settings for disabling the 128 bit encryption.

Hello there,

I'm struggling with networking problems.
I have server 2003 that acts as print server, file server and VPN server.

But after some configuring for the VPN adapter (separate adapter) I can't connect to \\server (that's server real name) anymore.
BUT I can connect with it over IP (, static IP)

So I thought that the VPN adapter is conflicting with some settings and disabled it, and it didn't help.

Server is behind router and I have static IP. Router seems to be configured correctly.
I can ping the server.

What's the problem?

May it be netBIOS problem?

My husband and I have several email addresses for our business that were created and hosted by another party using cPanel. Unfortunately we are late in paying our bill and our emails addresses have been shut down. Is there any way to redirect them? Any other advice? We did have access to the cPanel account but looks that was access was changed too. (see attached) If I am able to obtain access again, can I transfer the email addresses somehow?

A:Can I Access Emails If My Server Access Has Been Shut Down?

what was the last part after the @ of the email
why not just pay the bill ?
if ita a domain youu own , then you can transfer to a new provider and they can also host your email - but there will be a hosting / email server charge for you on another host.

Assuming this is all via a domain name, what is your domain name ?
when does the domain name expire?

Who are you hosting with now - is it very expensive?
What country are you in

You will NOT be able to transfer the email address and all the OLD emails , just the email address may be transfered - the emails will stay on the current hosting server , and if you leave it to long , which you may have already done, they will delete all the emails anyway

I have a problem to access file server on Windows Server 2000 from a Windows 7 PC. For your information, due to some reasons, both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are in different domain.

I have tried all suggested solutions which are :
i. to unchecked both attributes in 'Network Security : Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC)' for both clients and server.
ii. to apply 'Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated' in 'Network Security : LAN Manager authentication level'
iii. to make sure the time setting for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2000 are the same.

But still, i couldn't access the file server. In fact, each time I entered domain\username to authenticate, it will give out this message :

Since I am kinda new to this troubleshooting things, it would be great if someone can tell me why does this happening. Is it because of the different domain?

thanks in advance.

A:Windows 7 unable to Access file server on Windows Server 2000

To connect to the server you would need to enter the credentials of the domain user on the server that would have access. For example if the domain was 'home' with a user 'Josh' then I would put:

As the username. If you want to get advanced you could try and form a trust with the other domain in active directory so that the other domain has permission to access the server

We are running Windows 2000 Server. On the server is a Q: drive called 'Public'. 'Public''s permission is set to 'Everyone' with full-control. The employees and I can access the Public folder through My Network Places (most people have Win XP Pro) or through the run command, \\server\public.

Here's the problem. One person does not have access. She always did have access to the Public folder, but not anymore. I can access my PC (which is \\networkid) through her PC (\\popc). However, I cannot access \\server through \\popc. What is the problem? How come mine cannot see hers, but she can see mine? Me and everyone else can see the server, but not her.

Through her PC (\\popc), I type 'ping networkid' and I get replies. However, I type 'ping server' but there is no reply.

Any suggestions? I would love to get out of this funk!

I hope this is in the correct forum, so here goes. We have opened an ofiice in an old blg, and when we called ATT they said we could get a dsl line! well they made a mistake, so we explored a t1 line to much money. ok the people we rent from have a server, so someone suggested we do a wireless bridge. We are not directly in thair line of sight so is there a way to connect to a server wirelessly from building to building if the connecting bldg is 150 yrds away. Thanks any help would be appreciated or a site for help. There will only be two maybe three computers in use lap tops with docking stations or just lap tops.

oh forgot , we are using att sticks now , but slow and cumbersome also we are not the same company so w its two differant servers. Thanks again.

A:Server access

On the server, install a MIMO router which will have higher radio output.
Mount the router (at the server) near a window that faces your building and
set the SSID to something you and the owner agree upon.

Take a laptop with a WiFi adapter and stand outside your building and verify you can
get a good signal and connect.

Once that works, you get a Wireless Bridge (usually an Access Point configured as a bridge),
like this.

Once it all works (ie your systems have internet access), the MIMO router should have encryption enabled and your Bridge will need the key to connect.

Okay, I'm stumped

I am trying to access a webserver from a PC and the browser tells me the server is down. Tried pinging it and I get a timed out response. nslookup fails to find the server. tried turning the firewall off, tried checking the content setting in the internet options, tried explorer and firefox. all with no luck. The user can email people at the site without any problems. The workstation can access pretty much any other server

I know the server I am trying to access is up and running because if I go down the street to another computer, I can browse the site and ping the address with no problems. Not only that, the site has around 500 subscribers and no-one else hase any problems.

There is something weird going on here. Any thoughts would be good. I am running Spybot on the workstation at the moment but have no real hope that it will turn up anything.

Workstation is a pentium 4 running Windows XP from a small office using a Seimens Speedstream modem.

A:I can't access my Web server from my pc?

Hi and welcome to the forums, your log which you have submitted here is now in the process of being analyzed, some logs take longer than others depending on the type of infection. As I am currently at undergrad status all my post are verified before final posting so this may also cause a short delay in the final post. Please be patient and I will get back to you as soon as I can

While you are wating for your reply please note...

Do not try and fix any entries that you see yourself (even if they do seem very obvious) If you do so the fix may not work as it should, leaving you open to possible immediate re-infection.

Do not disable your system restore - an infected/corrupted system restore is better than none at all, if anything should go wrong during the fix and restore is turned off then you could well be looking at a full system format

Please do not post in other forums while you are being helped here This is so the HJT helpers at other forums can get on with helping other users that are in need of attention.

If you are at anytime in doubt, or unsure of anything then please ask ! Dont be frightened - we wont bite....

Many Thanks - Dorian - AkA Steve

Here's my setup:
I've got a cable modem that's connected to the internet and to my router. Connected to my router I have a laptop (wifi) and two desktops - my server and my desktop. My router is set to forward all ports to my server.

When I ask other people to try and access my public IP or my domain name (http://zoklet.net/) from outside of my network, they are able to get there with no problem. When I try to access the server from within the network with its my external IP or domain name, the connection times out. I *can* access my server if I use the local IP (192.168...).

Obviously, I would like to be able to access my server from inside the network with my external IP or domain name. I know I can just edit /etc/hosts and add a line for my server, but I don't want to have to do that for each computer that connects to my network.

My router is a Netgear WGR614 v6 and my modem is a Motorola Surfboard.

Any help, please?

I'm cautious to post this in networking because it may end up being a SQL/Access error in the end, but we don't have a solid lead on where this bottleneck is occuring.

For a project we're currently working on, we have a local access database that contains various tables for a PC inventory containing roughly 15,000 PCs and related apps/hardware/etc. The database sits at around 100 MB on disk all told, and interfaces with an MS-SQL server back end. The database is loaded out onto flash drives and given to various assessors and deployers for use. We have a version that draws directly from the SQL tables, but we also have a local version that updates local tables only so it can be used directly on the workstations being assessed without the ODBC connection to the server.

The issue comes with uploading the local data to the SQL server. When sitting in the data center where the SQL server is located, the upload of all of the local tables takes roughly 10 minutes. This is on a gigabit link, hovering around 2% (20-25 mb/s) utilization. When we take the database out to a remote site (hospital environment, large pipes), the upload time balloons out into the hour or two hour region.

The issue here is that the utlization hovers around .1% (or 1-2 mb/s) on a gigabit link out at the remote sites, when files can be transferred alongside the SQL upload from the data center without issue.

ok so heres the deal, i have an FTP server setup using FIlezilla Server , it is only accessible from my home network using my computer's internal network (LAN) IP address (192.168.xxx.xxx)...i used Dyndns.com to make a domain for my WAN IP address...now when i open this domain address as HTTP , it opens up my router config page!!!! y does that happen???? and if i do it like FTP://domain.blabla.com it asks for a username and password, when i put the login for FTP user account, nothing happens....and the Server client interface does not show whether any attempt was made to connect to the server..

P.S : I HAVE FORWARDED PORT 21 TO MY PC (i.e the pc which hosts the server)

A:External Access To FTP Server

FTP needs two ports; 20 and 21; forward both to the lan address of the FTP server.

As for external access to your router; O U C H !
you should never forward port 80 into your system(s) Unless you also have a webserver active. Also be sure you have changed the router admin password.

Dear Folks,

I am happy to be here. I have set a Mac to share files on a network. All users using either Mac or windows XP can access the server via http:\\myname.local:8888 except one laptop with windows.

On that laptop when i type http:\\myname.local:8888 into its browser it says link broken or page not found with internet exproler and firefox respectively.

However when i type the IP address of the server for example http:\\ it works but I can't use the server for long since other link are in the first format (htttp:\\xxxxx.local:8888). Please can you help me diagnose this problem?!

I thank you in advance.

I have a Desktop with XP, Laptop with Vista.

Both are on the same workgroup & IP subnet and I have installed the LLTP patch for XP. Both have the exact same firewall, the network has been "trusted" and each computer is trusted by MAC address.

On the desktop, I can't see "Laptop" in "Workgroup Computers", but when I try \\laptop, it opens and I can see all the shares.

On the laptop I can see "Desktop" in the "Network View" but if I try to click it, or use \\desktop I get a message saying it is inaccessible. Then if I go to a specific share "\\desktop\share1", I can get to it fine.

I'd prefer to be able to get directly to \\desktop and be able to brosw the shares instead of having to remember specific paths. Anything else I can try?

A:Can access shares but not server

Hi Folks,

I've got four computers networked together via ethernet and a router. One computer is designated as the "server" and all the important files are stored on it. The other computers access the files on the server.

I recently replaced the server with a brand new PC - P4 3 GHZ, 1 GB of RAM.

The server is XP Pro, the other machines are either XP Pro or home.

When the workstations open an existing file from the server, they often have to wait 20 or more seconds while the PC gathers the contents of the directory to display it. A similar problem: when a wordperfect document residing on the server is opened from a workstation, and the user attempts to highlight a large block of text, the hourglass appears, and once again, 20 or more seconds can go by before they are able to complete the operation.

My users understandably find this maddening. They never had this problem before when the file were served on an ancient PIII running NT2000.

Is there a way to speed up the network connection to the server and make it behave more efficiently?

Any insight, suggestions, advice and/or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I have a server at home on U-verse and would like to connect to it at work over VPN. So I setup VPN and I *think* that part works ok. I just can't seem to access the server by name or IP.

At home, I have a AT&T U-verse (2-Wire RG), which assigns the IP to my Windows Vista server. I've setup a VPN on the server and it assigns addresses from to

At my work, I'm connected to the network over their wireless network. When I dial in to the server, it connects just fine. However if I either try and ping or access the server by name (EARTH), it will not find it.

My ipconfig is below:

PPP adapter Home:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . :
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : gateway.2wire.net

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : us.xxxx.com
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : xxxx::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:bbb1%10
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 172.16.x.xx
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :

Why can't it see my home server?

Not sure if I should post this here or in the XP forum, but here goes...

In attempting to fix an issue I had with OREANS32.SYS in my c:\windows\system32\drivers folder on a Win2K3 server, I renamed the file, then created a new 0-byte text file called OREANS32.SYS in the same directory.

Adjusted the pagefile to move it to the D: drive, (which is faster), and upon reboot, I can login to the server, map drives, view an internal website that is hosted on this server, but I can no longer RDP into the server, or open Outlook on my local machine (which connects to this server for Exchange mail).

I have gone back and undone my OREANS32.SYS changes, rebooted, but still getting the same issues.

Any idea what's going on and how to fix it?

A:Can't access exchange server or RDP

OREANS32.SYS on google comes back as an infection, could be one of many... I assume you've already followed this route? If you have an infection, renaming the file isn't going fix the problem...

I'm making the assumption that you're running 2003 SBS if you have everything in one. Are you running enterprise antivirus for your exchange or just a client covering the pc? What errors are in your logs? Can any machines connect to the exchange server?

Check your services, are all necessary exchange services running?

Prabin Karki, welcome to the windows 7 forum,

I would not recommend duplicating your problem in more than one topic.

It will most likely get you ignored.

You might want to read up on IIS which is internet information server included with advanced versions of windows.

Problem: User logs in with username and password which is the same on the server. however when server resource is accessed user is prompted to log in to server. When they provide their same credentials they work fine until they log off their pc. This means the pass-through authenication is not working. Is there a way to fix this or this by design? Any ideas would be great

I'm trying to setup a VPN server. Here are a couple of questions I have. What is the diferences between VPN and using Windows Remote Desktop Connection? Do I setup the VPN server on a domain controller or can it be done on a separate windows 2003 server? Do I need to setup a VPN if my network has no hardware firewall protection? Another words, I can ping the domain controller server from anywhere. The domain controller has a public static IP address. What are some of the concerns having VPN?

Any help in answering these is very grateful!

A:remote access server

Go into control panel > services and look for the remote access server service and stop it. You can do it from a command prompt as well by opening a DOS window and typing

Use the NET START "REMOTE ACCESS SERVER" /Y to start it again

We have an employee who we would like to give remote access to only one of our servers without giving him any rights to "screw" things up. now we currently use several products like NetMeeting, Remote Desktop (Microsoft) and DameWare to remote into other desktops to fix any issues but I do not believe you can limit the user who connects to these desktops to certain rights.

I guess what I am saying is would it be possible for this guy to log into the server remotely and restrict what he can do? Our servers are logged in as an administrator so I am assuming he will have access to do whatever he wants?

I hope this makes sense. Thanks for your time.

A:Server access question

The best practice (given your situation) would to be set up a separate Terminal Server that he can log onto under his own user account. You don't EVER want to give somebody Admin access at the server level.

On my LAN, I have two Windows 7 PCs and a Linux server.  I am just learning about Linux, and my intention is to rebuild it after I figure out how to build it to my liking.
I need some help setting it up, and had someone on Odesk log on with its root password to set up.  They logged on, however, later said they couldn't do the work.  As I said, I will rebuild the server, so I am not concerned about anything on it.  I am concerned about the two Windows PCs.  Should I be concerned? What could I do to investigate?
Thank you

I put together a network using a cable modem and a linksys router. There are three computers on the network, one is XP, one is NT 6, and the other is NT 4 Server. I setup NetBuie on all the computers and I also set TCP/IP.
The internet is working, but that has nothing do with the computers talking to one another. The thing that I dont understand is that I able to ping into all the computers from each computer, but when I go to access a computer from the Network Neighborhood, no computers are found.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.
