CD fell into computer

Q: CD fell into computer

I just got my computer - put my printer/scanner disk in and it disappeared. So irritating. Pretty basic function to have such an obvious flaw. This computer is also noisy. The fan runs and hums continuously. HP all in one.

Now I have to take hours out of my day to find someone to get the disk out. This is unacceptable.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

@BoiseRE,I moved your inquiry, as you appended to a 3 yr old inquiry.Vertical CD/DVD slots do require that you snap the media into the holders. No doing that allows the media to move within the tray, as you noted. It is a human error.

Hi     Has anyone else had CDs falling into their computer when uploading music or other things. This happened to me last month HP took the computer any took out the two CDs and sent it and the CDs back but it has happened yet again. I have spent hours trying to get on the chat line then a long time chatting with them previously but they dont seem to undersatand simple things like the CD is still inside the computer. It this a design fault?

A:Re: CD fell into computer

@Graeme64,It is not a design flaw.  The media is supposed to be "clicked/snapped" into the holding tabs, because of the vertical design. Now, it becomes operator intense. How else would a vertical disk stay in-place. You could try to shake it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFEFhFY3tLs

Hi JOVIL, sorry to hear that you are having issue with retrieving a  C.D. from the drive. I have looked into the issue for you. Is it computer still under warranty? If so, I would suggest that you contact HP Total Care at 1-800-474-6836 for warranty options.  If this number is outside your calling area, here is a link to the world wide sited so you can get support in your area.  http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

About 30 minutes ago, my computer had a pretty hard fall off a 3-4 foot drop, it was a pretty loud crash. Immediately I tried to turn it on again, and it did a "disk check". After that it just sort of got frozen. So i turned it off, turned it back on, and everything seemed to be running normal, for about 10 minutes. Then it just turned off. I turned it back on, and i had even less time that time around, as eventually it turned off again. And it was making some sort of Clicking sound while it was on...

I have a panel on the bottom of the back of my computer, and im 95% sure there is a unplugged cord there that wasn't there before, I am thinking something got displaced or fell off in the crash, but i am not sure.

I unplugged it, and opened up the panel, but i know nothing about computers...I am waiting for my brother to get home to take a look at it. But for now. Does anyone know anything i can do or any help they can offer on what is going on?

The computer turns on, then will just turn off a few minutes later, without any warning.

And it doesn't turn off until a little after that.

IF it is my Cooling system, which might be the case, how can i confirm this?

HeLP PLEASE!

EDIT: Nothing seems to be broken inside the Computer, but there are a few uplugged cords...

A:My computer fell, need help

If you know what the CPU heatsink and fan look like and where they are located, I would check to see if they didn't get knocked loose. The fan electrical connector could still be connected and the running fan might be hitting something. The unplugged cords could be just unused power supply connectors.

If you aren't very familiar with the insides of the PC, I don't know if it would be a good idea to muck around inside since you could do more harm than good. An accurate diagnosis of what is wrong with the PC is very difficult to give from this side of the internet without seeing the insides ourselves.

I'm disabled and I'm unsteady on my feet, but I had to plug a usb cord into the back of my computer. Unfortunately, I lost my balance and fell on top of the computer. It didn't tip over, but I knocked it to the side about 6" and possibly flexed the case (and motherboard). When I looked at the screen, I saw the BSOD. When I restarted, it began to load Windows. The four pieces of the Windows logo swirled and almost came together, but no, the BSOD popped up before the logo coalesced.

I had just swapped out the SSD, and I copied the partition from the old drive to the new. So they were almost identical. I replaced the new drive with the old and tried booting from the old drive. Exact same result -- BSOD on Windows startup. So it couldn't have been something I loaded on the old drive before copying it to the new drive, or else the new one wouldn't have booted when I put it in.

I tried a safe mode with command line -- same result. I watched the drivers load and delete the last driver loaded -- same result. I tried to repair the Windows installation, and tried a further repair after submitting the results. No dice. This is the info I got:

My husband fell for the phone call that our windows certificates were expired. He followed the prompts of the caller which gave the caller control of the computer. He got all the way to the costs before my husband realized something was amiss. Needless to say when I got home there were open files on my computer to prove the callers point. I used AVG to search for malware. it found 3 items and destroyed them. I used the window defender and it found nothing. I then found 3 files in my download folder and attempted to delete them one would not delete the Ammyy-(1) (I may not have that correct). So I scanned it 3 time with AVG and it was not infected. I asked a friend how to remove the file and they suggested I do it in safe mode. I went to safe mode and have been stuck in this Start-up repair. Start up repair cannot determine the cause of the problem. I am running windows 7 (professional ?). I don't have any disks, but I can attempt to get them from work if necessary. Any help you can lend I appreciate. I really don't want to lose my photos.

I bought this notebook last April and I've been using it for at least 4 hours every single day. I did found a black screw on my table early this morning then I turned my notebook upside down to see one screw missing. This does not affect the laptops's performance however it alarmed me. Yeah, it might have been unscrewed due to the laptop's vibration but this made me worry that my laptop might not last that long. I had not experienced this on my 5 year old laptop and I don't think it is normal. Just posted this to see if people encountered this problem too.

One WIN98 box 'fell off' the network. It can no longer see anything in Network Neighberhood, not even itself.

No problem dialing up and connecting to the internet.

It can ping the other computers as well as its own IP address.
The other computers can not ping it, althought the appropriate activity lights flicker on the switch.

I have removed everything from Network Neighborhood and reinstalled from the Windows98 CD.

Do these symptoms bring back any memories ?

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to look at this! I'd appreciate any kind of help someone can give me.

My operating system: Windows 7 (64-bit)

Yesterday I fell for the SteamGuard.exe program which I downloaded from a Phishing site. I usually never fall for these things but I wasn't really thinking and stupidly went along with it and ran the program. There isn't all that much info that I could find about it online besides lots of other people asking for help too. I don't know exactly what it's put on my computer, or where. And I don't know how to go about finding and removing it.
I fear a keylogger may be part of it so I changed the majority of my passwords via mobile instantly. Steam, stupidly, requires you to use the desktop program to change passwords which would be pointless should there indeed be a keylogger on my system so I did the next best thing I could think of and deauthorised all other devices as well as locking my account out from transactions.
I have the majority of things I care about already backed up on an external HDD and I have good internet to re-download stuff so I can do a complete wipe as a last resort, but I'd rather try my options first.
Thanks again for your time

Now that you have properly posted a malware log topic, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.
From this point on, the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

After pressing "1", instead of the PC starting up normally, all it did was opened up the "Startup Repair" screen. I went on and back tracked and redid it all over again but it still happened. Is this just simply a human error caused by me or is it something else in the process? Any help is much appreciated.

Please follow the instructions in This Prep Guide starting at Step 6.
Once the requested logs are created, then make a New Topic and post it to the =>> Malware Removal Experts Area <== Not back here.Copy and Paste any logs created, (do not attach them unless requested) and include a brief description of your problem and what you have done to try to resolve them.

Unfortunately, my elderly parents fell for a scam today.

Evidently mom was reading some news story online and they got some pop up saying they had a lot of infections and the hard drive was going to be destroyed shortly and to call this specific 800 number.

So what do they do? They call the number. And then they type in some stuff per their instructions which gave these people access to their machine. My mother then had the idea to call me and ask me if this number was legitimate or not.

I told them to hang up the phone with these people and to pull the plug on the computer immediately. It took some convincing but they did it.

I?m totally not sure what to do now. These people never asked for any money, but they had full access to their machine. My mother couldn't tell me what they had her type in to give them access but she did say something about the rundll32.exe. That's the most information I could get out of either of them.

I think I have to assume the worst in that the bad guys have access to anything and everything that was on the computer, passwords, etc. Luckily they don?t do any online banking or anything of that sort. But isn't the entire machine now a security risk?

I think I also have to assume that they installed some sort of backdoor to re-give them access to the machine once they turn it back on again. I've told them not to turn on the machine for now.

I also wonder if the bad guys could somehow get access to their internet gatewa... Read more

So just like 15 minutes ago, my PC fell down. When I say fell, I mean the system unit struck the floor at a height of like meter (guesstimating the height of the table). It fell down because I was relocating my desk, the system unit is placed on another table (If you're asking why, I'm on a flood prone area so I can't place my unit on the floor; the table was the only thing to put it on to.) while the other things are on the desk. So I moved the desk closer to the unit then rotated it at 90? clockwise and pulled the desk to the right. I was struggling to pull the desk because one of the wheels is jammed. So I was looking at that jammed wheel when I was pulling it and then I heard like a bang. Checking the other side, I saw the unit is on the floor. I knew that my PC was fine because I was playing a song and it was still playing after it fell. The first thing that came in my mind is "Is the HDD fine?" and my answer is yes; and according to the spec sheets, my drive can survive a 30G~65G fall when it's working and I checked it with HD Tune with no problems. Plus the position of the HDD is upright so it's parallel to the direction of the fall (Does this help? Just for future reference).

Now the question is there any part that may be damaged? For now, all is fine.

When my PC fell down, I was actually surprised that everything survived considering that most of the parts are like 3.5 years old (GPU is almost 2 while HDD is 10 months). It gave me a mini-heart attack whe... Read more

The system tells me to re-install Windows 98, so I got a floppy of WIN 98 and tried to reinstall it, then it says that there is no working D drive so it can not proceed. I need to find a cd rom drive for this system that isn't going to cost me hundreds of bucks. The whole system cost me less than $200, well now I know why. I tried to call compaq, and they said that they will only sell me a CD-RW, DVD rom thing for $330. Heck no. So ebay it is,? but I can't find out what the product number is for a compaq cd rom drive, or what else is compatible like the Toshiba models ect. Maybe the keys were a little loose and the underlying rubber pads are not aligned with the "outside" keys?
if you can have the laptop keyboard checked/aligned (for a minimal fee) would be wise.

in the meantime, if you agree with me, you can use a cheap usb keyboard as a temporary fix for your keyboard problem.

I dropped my drive and when i tried plugging it it was not recognized at all (computer, disk mgnt etc). It powers on, however it makes a slight noise not clicking, more like buzzing or attempting to read, blue lights even turn on (pininfarina model). So after some advice i took it off the enclosure since one of the sides popped of slightly. Plugged it on same result nothing, same noise. I noticed if i unplugged the sata cable with the red, yellow, black cables it stopped making the noise. The other sata cable (red) seemed a little bent. So i plugged it on againg with that sata cable unplugged just with usb and i got " initio combo class.." My laptop is running windows xp and is the same one i installed the drive when i bought it. I also plugged it on another running vista and got a msg with "locate and install software for unknown device", it pops up on device manager with a yellow ? And as unknown device. Is my data lost? Can i recover it? Any help is much appreciated!!!

Recently my laptop went off (not fully) due to accidental fall.

It stopped booting from hdd and an error ""hdl.dll" missing in root" started appearing on screen.
I tried to boot it from a bootable cd but the cd drive have lost alignment so dont read properly and hangs in between.
Couple of tries and i could boot in dos once and found that system and system32 are missing from c drive.
i also tried to recopy missing dll but didn't work.
Scandisk also did not work and hanged on the way.
Had to replace dvd writer to boot from a cd properly.
A thirdparty disk repair program sorted several cross linked files and at last i could install microxp on c drive to boot.
But it was a clean new boot so lost my all installed programs.
Recovery console of xp also tried.
Tried winxp pro but no way to recover old "documents and settings" though whole \program files folder is intact if browsed through explorer, it is not visible in through "start" button. Neither recover old registry etc etc. Network settings, drivers for other hardwares are lost.

Is there a way to get back all my old settings?
Thanks for reading.
Waiting for a solution......

Hi,
just got a phone call from my mum and she has fallen for a phone scam.
Basically an 'AVG looking' box kept appearing over her browser, so she clicked it, and then it wouldn't go away. There was a free phone number to ring, so she rung it and spoke to a person in a call centre. They took control of her computer, and scanned it, and it said she had a trojan. Then they asked her for a payment of £110 and then asked her to enter the admin password on the screen. Luckily by this point she got suspicious, and hung up.
How safe is her computer to use now? I haven't got the computer in front of me, and wont be able to fix it for a while, but I'm just wondering if it needs a full clean install, or would just require some house keeping.
She didn't enter the admin password, so how much damage could they have done without it? I'm a mac user, so not totally sure on windows issues.
she has AVG installed, so would it be a simple scan with that?
thanks!

A:Mum fell for phone scam, can anyone help

i just found this info online, which is probably the same thing:
A (slightly) more legitimate version comes from a company called Help PC Online, which "Which" investigated.  Their British phone number actually connects to a call centre in Delhi and their address in Crawley appeared on Google to be a car park! For £110 per annum they promise to give you support. They then take over your PC and install and run two (legit) free packages (Ccleaner and Malwarebytes) Whilst I thoroughly approve those the charge is excessive. But there can be much worse consequences from allowing someone to take over your machine.  In fact you are giving them the right to search the whole hard disk and they may find details you would prefer not to disclose.

I recklessly downloaded and opened the attachment, not realizing that something was wrong before it was too late and I had already double-clicked the file. It shut down my computer and I began to metaphorically bang my head against the wall. So far the infected laptop seems to be working normally, but now I'm paranoid and would like to make sure that it's completely clean before going back to regular usage. I ran several scans with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and avast! Home Edition version 4.8. Avast! didn't catch anything, but MBAM caught and fixed quite a few things. However, I'm still worried. Here is my latest HijackThis log, as well as one from SDFix (which I installed and ran while in Safe Mode--if this was wrong, please tell me. Also: sorry).

Thanks so much for your help--I'm at a loss for what I should do next.

Need some expert guidance on hardware troubleshooting so that I can isolate what the problem is. I accept that one or some of the components may have been damaged but don't wan't to buy a whole new PC and would like to know what component to replace.

Problem statement and Symptoms :
PC fell on it's side. Now when I switch on the main power, the CPU and video fans turn on but PC won't POST and nothing is displayed on my LCD monitor. No error code beeps. The PC had been running perfectly and I was happily gaming on CS:S and DoD before disaster struck

My PC specs (DIY):
Pentium 4 560 3.6GHz/800MHz
Gigabyte G-Power cooler
Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo Pro mobo
Corsair XMS PC3200 512MBx2
Gigabyte GeForce 6800GT 256MB
Maxtor DiamondMax 200GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150
Liteon 16x DVD+/-R/RW
OEM 16x DVD-ROM
Ultra 600W ATX Power supply
Samsung 204-B 20" LCD monitor
Windows Media Center Edition 2005

Investigation that I have done and observations:
1. Changed out the P/S to a different type (Raidmax 420W new spare I had just bought) but still won't boot. Checked my Ultra 600W P/S on a different PC and there is no problem - other PC boots OK.
2. Corsair XMS RAM tested on other PC - works OK
3. Checked DC with voltmeter on unused power connector of Ultra P/S when turned on - reads OK at 5 and 12 volts. But when I tried to open the DVD-ROM or DVD RW drive, tray would not eject.
4. Checked my LCD monitor on my other PC - LCD works fine.

A:Help! PC fell on its side, won't boot

Do you hear anything loose in your case? If the CPU fan runs then it doesn't sound like the MoBo, but that would be my first guess. I will get back to you if I think of anything. Does the HDD spin up? Chances are you knocked a very small part loose and will not be able to visually see the damage. I wish you the best of luck.

Keep us posted,

Hi I'm not really to into hardware of a computer. But I'll try to make this clear as I can.

I own a stock Hp a810n Pavilion.

My Northbridge Headsink fell off and the thermal paste is pretty used.
My question is basically. If this happens would that be cause for my psu to rapidly blink?

I checked everything unplugged all power connections and I know my psu is good. once I plug everything in it blinks. I took out my ram and it still blinks (incase the ram was misplaced in there).

Thanks for anyhelp Will check this quite frequently for any questions. For exact mother board specs here is a url.

Asus K8S-LA (Salmon) I believe >__>
Thanks

- Entropy.

A:Northbridge heatsink fell off

You need to put the heatsink back on. Buy some thermal paste cleaner and some thermal paste. Clean the old thermal paste off, put some new stuff on and re-attach the heatsink.
It may unfortunately be too late and the northbridge may be dead.

What's blinking on your power supply? The LED on the back of it?

Greetings, My two month old laptop fell on the cement while it was in my protective bookbag and it shatterd the screen from the top left corner. It's pretty badly damaged, the touch screen doesn't work at all for the entire left side. The pc is bought in The States. Is there any way I could get this fixed soon and if so, what would the cost be? Thank you.

A:My Laptop Fell on the Cement :(

Hi,You can find an authorized service centre in your are and contact them for prices. It is a quite straightforward fix even if the screen can be quite expensive.http://www8.hp.com/us/en/store-finder/find.do?bs=SR4&type=authorized Hope it helps,David

My battery fell out and now the laptop won't launch. On the bootup screen it says "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this."

"If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked."

It then prompts to load in
- "safe mode",
- "safe mode w/ networking",
- "Safe Made w/Command Prompt"
- "Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)"

None of these modes will successfully launch the computer, it just reverts back to this same screen under every mode.

If anybody can help me here it would be greatly appreciated. I am a student and dont have everything backed up. I need this this thing to launch!

A:Battery fell out, now won't launch.

You likely had severe file corruption when the battery fell out ( how does that happen anyway?)

You can perform a Repair Install to get back going . . you will have to reload all the
Windows updates but data and programs should be ok ( except for maybe the one that was open when power was lost )

This is a good guide to performing a repair install

That type of error is normally caused by either damaging the hard drive or forcing the connection by the drop.  When you open the unit to check on a loose connection, be prepared to replace the hard drive.

Got a customer call on Thursday.  He fell for a phone call telling him he was sending out viruses and that the caller needed to remote log in.  The customer allowed him to.  The criminals did not ask for payment, so presume they dropped something on his machine.
I told him to leave his computer off till I got there tomorrow (Tuesday).
What kind of malware do you suppose they deposited?

Any special scans to do or just the standard stuff?
Many thanks,
-T

A:Customer fell for one of those calls

Personally i'd wipe the drive and start afresh as the potential for maliciousness where somebody has/had uncontrolled access to my system would make me too nervous to do otherwise - better safe than sorry.
