Ralink RT61 WiFi Lan card, windows 7 not receiving any wifi signals

Q: Ralink RT61 WiFi Lan card, windows 7 not receiving any wifi signals

Hello,

I have recently bought a new pci wifi lan card (Ralink rt61 turbo) and have plugged in and installed drivers. Initially the drivers the company I bought it from told me to install didn't work, but after some googling found the correct drivers and downloaded from Ralinks website. However these didn't work either.

When using the Ralink wireless utility it says that the card is disconnected, however in device manage it is both connect and the correct drivers installed and everything is perfectly fine.

I ignored the wireless utility and hoped that windows 7 would still be able to use the wireless card as past experiences have shown to be true. This case however I get nothing. Windows 7 says that the wireless card is experiencing problems, it doesn't show any of the routers that should be shown.

I have been looking around a lot and there have been several drivers that should have worked and they haven't.

I would have thought that the antenna is broken or the card doesn't work however when I use it with ubuntu instead of windows 7 it works perfectly fine without any hassle, so the card is definitely working.

Any advice that anyone can give on how to resolve this would be very welcome.

Thanks

Aieden

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I have found the thread by "Gamer 1238" about Win7 X64 driver for my Wireless card. Its available in Device manager, however Windows shows its disconnected, though I have active Wireless available. I tried to search the wireless network manually, it fails. Its a new card, so its certain that it will not be faulty. I can also assume that as the card is available in Device Manager, the card should be functional. I have gone through the thread "Gamer 1238", and could not find any solution to make my card working. Any help will be highly appriciated. Thanks..

Welcome to Seven Forums,

Have you tried moving the card to a different slot in your Motherboard?

Uninstall then reinstall the driver, I'd recommend finding the latest driver from the manufacturer's site.

You meant manually adding your SSID?

About a week ago I noticed that the icon that I normally click on in my taskbar to show what wireless network connections were available was gone - I tried the "Notification Area Icons" settings to try and get it back but that didn't work- it was set to show but it just was not doing so. (The card was still functioning at this point, I was connected but just couldn't see the icon) So I decided to re-install the driver for the card, and that was the last time the Ralink RT61 wireless card ever worked.

I have tried installing the driver from the CD and a few I found on the internet and the card just won't work.
It shows up in Device Manager just like its supposed to and says "this device is working properly" but, in "Network Connections" it shows that it is "disabled" - when I try and enable it a little window appears that says "enabling......enabled" but then it never actually enables, it still says "Wireless Network Connection 2 Disabled" (not sure why the 2 is there)

I tried moving the card to a different PCI slot - no change.
Anyone have any ideas? My GF hates the long ugly ethernet cable I now have to run across the floor and over the door and into the living room to be connected to the net - any help would be appreciated.

I purchased a used laptop, HP G42, and the wifi was working fine, however in the last day or so, it stopped connecting to the internet. I have decided that the adapter died and needed to be replaced. In my naivity, I "assumed" (maybe a bad idea) that I could just throw another one in from my spare box of parts. NO? Really? I get a message that the wifi adapter isn't supported by the bios? Am I to believe that this is a "proprietary" wifi lan card? I'm hoping not, but am not feeling the HP love here.

Believe it. Your laptop has the infamous HP "whitelist" that restricts operation to certain specific wireless cards. A compatible card can be found for as little as $5 on amazon.com but its gotta be one of the right ones or you get that message. Don't shoot the messenger, please.

My argtek ARG-0800 (Give Me 5) USB wifi signal amplifier antenna using a ralink RT-3070 wifi card is not working with my windows 7 ultimate x64 version.

I tried all existing versions of the driver from argtek and Ralink without success. The best result I have is the card working and receiving but the signal is weak and far from being amplified as it should be.

The only time it was performing normally was when I installed hotspot shield but it lasts only a day.

I would appreciate some help. Thanks.

A:driver problem with ralink wifi USB card

Is the adapter compatible with Windows 7? Or perhaps there is not a driver for your 64bit version of Windows 7. Did you install the right drivers which should be 64bit drivers?

From what I am seeing on Ralinks website (Drivers) there is no drivers for your wifi adapter for Windows 7 64bit. Only for Windows XP 32bit.

My computer's wifi connection works great when I turn on my computer. After about 30 minutes, my internet connection is lost. My phone and Roku are still connected just fine though. After I restart my computer, the wifi will work for a little while. What is the issue?

Hi,

My computer has recently started to drop the WiFi connection, reconnect after a while and at times, not even detect my WiFi connection for a while. Then repeats the process for no apparent reason, I'm not sure when exactly thus problem started as I had been using Ethernet cable up until last week. I am certain that this is not related to my router as 3-4 other devices in my house can access the internet perfectly fine.

I have tried doing a power cycle of the router, restarting the notebook, re-installing/updating drivers and cmd ipocnfig /refresh (and other commands along those lines)

My notebook model is the hp pavilion 3132tx- windows 7 64bit, intel I7, 8gb ram and uses a ralink RT3090 network card.

Ps: the problem appears to be alright if I use older versions of the driver (have tried 3.1.18.0 and the default one which came with the notebook [which is older than it]) however, I would prefer not to have to use the older versions as task manager says that its link speed is only 39 mbps whereas versions 5.0.5.0+ would show 79 mbps

Thankyou in advance.

A:Notebook drops wifi connection randomly- Ralink network card

It sounds to me like a signal problem. A competing signal drowning out your wireless signal can cause these kinds of random losses.

To test for this try this program:
inSSIDer for Home – Discover The Wi-Fi Around You | MetaGeek
It will tell you if you have a stronger signal in your area that is interfering with the channel.

The need to keep re-installing the driver after restart usually indicates that the driver isn't the right one. It's either not compatible with your Windows version or not the right one for that wireless device.

Hello!
I have a Win7 Pro x64 PC and use it to host my home network via a Ralink RT61 wireless card.
For a year, the host PC has been crashing if I put the wireless card under any "strain" i.e. download anything larger than 5MB via the wireless network using my Vista Business laptop.

Today the wireless card's driver was updated automatically (from version 2.1.0.0 to 3.0.9.1) but now the wireless card does not work at all - I cannot connect to the wireless network from either machine and am asked to "(ICS) Select WAN Adapter". Neither of the 2 options selected enable the wireless card with it's new and "improved" driver..
If I roll back the driver, I can immediately access the WAN via the card but have the same freezing issues that have plagued me for months!
Pu-lease help me out here!! I have been looking for a solution to this problem for a year now...

1. Are there any new developments?
2. How do I stop my PC from crashing?
3. Why do I have such hassles trying to network a Vista and 7 machine?

I came across a blog claiming that 4 x 1GB DDR3 RAM chips may be causing the wireless card to crash the PC. Is this true?

Thanks in advance..

I spotted what looked to be a solution to my problem of upgrading the driver for RT 61 turbo card from Vista to Windows 7 and I had further queries. It occurred to me that any discussion might be better in this "drivers" thread rather than the " hardware" one, So I wonder if I can take the liberty of repeating my questions here. The initial query from Gamer 1238 was:

I have a problem with my Ralink wireless card. windows "says" its fine but it doesn't enable (on windows 7)

It might be a driver problem i'm not sure...

I have the latest driver for it too its a Ralink RT61 Turbo Wireless Card chipset is 2561/RT61

if you know of any drivers that will work with windows 7 please post here and a link to the download so others like myself can fix this problem once and for all

Gamer 1238 finally found a driver and kindly posted a link which I have saved and my further questions are:

Although this thread is marked problem solved, I wonder, as a mid-80 year-old non-techie, if I could take it a little further. The Windows 7 upgrade advisor tells me that I should save an upgraded driver for my RT 61 turbo wireless card and install it after installing Windows 7 (after upgrading from Vista). I cannot find anything on the Ralink Technology web site which helps me but I came across this thread which seems to mirror my problem.

Accordingly, I downloaded from the link Gamer 1238 kindly supplied and saved it. Am I right in thinking that I can now in... Read more

Hello
I just reinstalled my advent sq9204 pc with windows 7 32-bit. But when it was complete there was a red cross of the wireless networks icon. When I checked Device Manager, it came up as Network Controller with a yellow triangle. I went onto the manufacturers website to download the driver for the wireless pci card, and when I came to install it my entire computer froze, with the only way it being able to work again was system restoring it via startup repair.
I downloaded the driver from a different website for ralink rt61 turbo wireless lan card but the same thing happened.

I tried this forum RT2561 and similar ones (RT2560, RT2500 etc) and tried the top post link and also the second post oldest driver but both do the same thing.

Hi all. Really hope someone can help me here.
I am using an Asus RT-N66U. Signal for wifi at home has never been great, but on a visit for Christmas to the in laws, I was stunned. My father in law has the exact same router. His house is 2 floors and god knows how many rooms. The router is located in the study on the ground floor.
There wasn't a place in the house that didn't get me full signal.
So when I got home I was annoyed my router is hopeless.

To better understand I've made some images. First, this is the WiFi map of my apartment. It's a 2 bed flat on one floor.
As you can see, I shouldn't get that much drop off for such a short distance. The wifi in the toilet/bathroom is unusable and the 2nd bedroom is hopeless.
When I pop outside the front door, the signal also drops. Not to the point of unusable, but watching youtube is futile. I'm on a 125meg connection by the way.

Here is some wifi scans of the area. Firstly, right beside my router.

Mine is the red one, with the silly name. Don't ask, my partner did it.

Now another scan taken from the bathroom.

Finally, my settings for the router:

The things I have tried:

Changing wifi channels. Curently now set to 13u
Increasing the TX power to 100.
Moving router away from DECT phones and the TV area. But due to cable restrictions, I can't move it any more.

Not a problem or a trouble message; just a question about how to do something.

I travel in my RV and now days many campgrounds advertise they have wifi. Trouble is, they do, but unless you stay about 6" (that's inches, not feet, but perhaps I'm too sarcastic) you can't pick up anything remotely resembling a decent signal.

I want to connect and stay connected IN my RV. Now I know that having redwoods between me and the signal will not help. Nor will a monsoon or other bad weather, I guess.

But in general, what sort of gizmo should I shop for, to boost signal strength coming into my laptop?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A15-S127, 256mb ram, (soon to become 768), windows home sp2, a linksys ext wifi card that I plug into the PCMCIA (?) slot on the side of the puter, and only 2 USB ports, one of which is always for my mouse, so only one free.

Suggestions, please, that won't break the bank?

Thx.

A:How to boost campground wifi signals

Hi Tom,

You may need a better antenna than what is built into the laptop or into a plug-in card. JohnWill posted some links of interest for someone else with a similar problem ...

http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/566217-entending-wifi-range.html

Have you tried using your computer's WiFi connection outside of your RV? It might be acting as a shielded room, blocking the signals.

A:Suddenly laptop find only close wifi signals.

Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove the power adapter and also the Battery before doing the following
Remove and reinsert carefully and firmly several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.

Note: This is not taking the machine apart. I do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless, unless you are experienced in this sort of disassemble.

There are often some good examples of how to disassemble laptops on "youtube" and you should see if the wireless card is on the bottom of the laptop

Heres an example (they do vary) of a wireless card - with the clips where the aerial leads usually clip

Hello Everyone. I recently bought an Acer's Aspire V3-575G. I used it a few days but now I realised that it has a problem with its WIFI ADAPTER. The problem is that whenever i close the lid of my laptop, the wifi signals drop considerably. Sometimes it just disconnects from the internet completely. I have checked all the power options that may turn off wifi to save battery and turned them off but the problem is still there. Please Help me. Thanks

I recently downloaded the Windows 10 update, and it installed fine. I then downloaded a driver app which updated most of my drives for me, a few weeks later I encountered WHEA errors whenever I would watch videosWhen the errors stopped occuring, I was unable to receive any Wifi Signal (only Ethernet Network was available), the driver for the wireless connection apparently 'dissapeared' and it seems that the computer is not able to detect the Wifi card anymore...I have tried downloading all the necessary drives for the wifi card, also tried to roll it back from windows 10 to the OS it came with (win8), all to no avail...Any help?

My laptop is an X1carbon 4rth gen with an intel Ac8620 card. I have updated drivers. I tried to connect to my home wifi, and as it tried to connect, it failed then all potential wifi networks previously detected disappeared. Nothing. Restarted the laptop, the same thing happened, rebooted again. Nothing at all. I took it to work and connected to the Wifi no problem. I take it home; I connect to the wifi no problem. I stay at home for a few days, and it works the entire time. Yesterday night, I take it to work, some difficulties but the wifi is weak and sketchy. I take it home: Nothing. While I was at work, windows updated. I've tried updating drivers. I've been attempting changing wifi channels, nothing. No, airplane is mode not on. Yes, other devices can connect to the network. No uninstalling the device did not work. Yes, I tried the cmd prompt troubleshooting problems on the support page. Yes, it was working previously. No, setting it to 20hz instead of auto did not work. No setting it to type B did not work. No using a wireless adapter USB stick did not work. Same symptoms. All networks appeared, and then when I entered the password, it refused to connect, and all networks disappeared. All that accomplished is that the thumbstick is now cursed too! I mean, what the actual truck is going on?!I am about to try a clean windows install. What drives me craziest, is the absolute stupid number of pages on this and other forums about what seems to be almost exact or similar p... I have a laptop INSPIRON E1705 with a WLAN card (p/n DW 1390) installed. I would like to replace it with a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card so I can have Bluetooth capability. What is the recommended card to buy that is compatible with Windows 10?

A:Replace WiFi PCIe card with WiFi/Bluetooth combo card.

Given that there will be no antenna inside the system for bluetooth, you're better off with one of these:

I have had this laptop for nearly 3 years and it has worked completely fine until the last two months. When I updated my laptop to Windows 10 the area at the back of my laptop started to overheat (in particular the ralink area) & then suddenly my wifi stopped working and connecting. Then the laptop would freeze. The fans don't produce air and I don't know what to do. Help please.

I've been working on this for three days already, I am using win 7 64bits with a TP-link router.

I've just moved in to a new house, with a router set up by my landlord, for the first day, I couldn't connected to the wifi, but somehow I worked that out, and could now connected to the internet (Occasionally, still couldn't get connected sometimes). Anyway, since there's no problem connecting to the wireless network, I realize it is very very unstable, it's running really slow, and might lost access to internet even when the signals show everything's fine. I tried different methods, ipconfig /release and renew, uninstalling my driver, all kinds of stuff, but the problem still exist.

What can I do?

A:Connected to wifi, shows no problems on the signals, unstable access

Have you tried changing the channel that the wireless is using? The type of security and encryption being used can also make a difference.

Xirrus wifi inspector can help you find a clear channel in your area, if you are confused by what it says then just post a screen shot of the read out here.

I have a friend who has an HP Pavilion G6 running a 64-bit edition of Windows 8.

He brought the laptop to me telling me he had issues connecting to wifi networks. I did the normal check to see if the PC was detecting the Wifi Adapter itself by going to Device Manager > Network Adapters ..only for me to get there and find out there were no Wifi network adapters, only a "Realtek Ethernet Controller". I checked HP's website for the laptop's model's wifi driver, downloaded and installed it and got a prompt that the driver wasn't installed correctly.

The F12 key that's supposed to turn the wifi adpater on didn't do anything. I decided to do a system restore to the last time my friend told me it was working and yet nothing.

I'm guessing its a hardware related issue and I might have to open up the network adapter compartment of the laptop and place the adapter properly. I'm so confused right now.

A:Help! Ralink Wifi Adapter Won't Work On Hp Pavilion G6

Hi there. The card may be seated improperly, but you may want to try a few things first. Go to Device Manager and check "Show hidden devices" on the "View" tab. If it doesn't show up then it may well have to be reseated or the card went bad. Also, if you open it up, have a can of compressed air to clean the thing out. Being that it's a few years old, it's probably dusty. Make sure it's unplugged from a power source, the battery is removed, and take necessary precautions on static electricity before opening the case. I highly suggest doing a study of this procedure before performing.

Here's another fix you may want to try if the system does recognize the card:

Good luck and please report how it goes.
