corrupted SFC scan and failed sfcfix.exe

Q: corrupted SFC scan and failed sfcfix.exe

hello I have run a sfc scan and it showed I had corrupted files upon research I cam accross the sfcfix.exe which had also failed. Please help if you can Thanks

Preferred Solution: corrupted SFC scan and failed sfcfix.exe

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: corrupted SFC scan and failed sfcfix.exe

Hello Macari and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's been reported that several Windows Updates starting in May 2015 have caused people to experience corrupted system files after running sfc /scannow.

I'd try uninstalling all updates from May and June. Then try running the sfc again. If it works (no integrity violations found) then you'll know one or more of the Updates was responsible for the corrupted files. You could try reinstalling just a few at a time and run sfc after each group. If sfc runs successfully install the next group. If the sfc shows corrupted system files after running the scan you'll know which Update(s) were at fault. Uninstall those few updates, and install just one at a time. Run the sfc after each install until you know for sure which Update(s) is causing the issue.

Hi everyone,

Glad I found this place. I found that potentially some of the updates could have corrupted some of my windows files (thanks to you all for the heads up). Here's the summary below. If it helps, I do have windows 10 reserved--I saw some other post saying that might also be making some bad changes. Thanks in advance.

A:Ran SFCFix.exe the corrupted files; need help with manul fixes

Hey all,

I really need the help, here. Please take a look at what I've posted. I ran a few programs from some other guides and cleaned up registry with CCleaner. Right now comctl32.dll is missing. I found a site to download that file and replace it-my windows will not give me permission. I free up permissions-it claims that file is being used elsewhere, but I can't find the source. A lot of my programs won't respond because this important set of files isn't available and I can't find clearer explanations, or those that seemed relevant were also given as computer-specific examples and wouldn't apply to me. Please, please, take a look here or tell me what else you need so I can get my machine running again. Thank you.

*******NO COMBO FIX LOG IS ATTACHED***********First, thank you for what you people do here. I suddenly began receiving the error "Windows - Delayed Write Failed. (Failed to save all the components for the file \System32\0000390c. The file is corrupted or unreadable. This error may be caused by a PC hardware problem)In addition, my desktop went black and lost my desktop icons. A box popped up saying I needed to purchase some time of computer fix. Researching the problem, I came across a forum that suggested running ComboFix from your site, which I did. After running it, I found the warning not to run it unless specifically instructed to. In any event, I did run it and currently my desktop icons are back, however my desktop background is still black and I have a new icon on my desktop that is a red circle with a white X on it. Please let me know what else I should do, if anything. I have not deleted ComboFix.exe from my computer or performed any other tasks. And again, thank you for what you do. Warmest regards

I've been tasked with 'fixing' my girlfriend's friends laptop and have been given a pretty vague description of the problem, so I'll try to give as much detail to you as possible in the hope that you can help.

The laptop is running Vista Home Premium SP2. She has AVG Free 2012.0.2242. She uses Chrome 30.0.1599.101 m and IE 9.0.8122.16421. Every time she tries to download a file with Chrome and IE she gets a "Failed - Virus scan failed" message. She hasn't tried Firefox, but I have, and can download with it fine.

I have run a few tools (ccleaner, spybot, spywareblaster, adaware) but the problems haven't stopped. I also noticed it had proxy settings for http and secuure pointing to with the proxy exception for "<-loopback>.

Hello and welcome to Tech Guy. I am sorry that you are having troubles with your computer and will try my best to help you. I know that being infected is very frustrating, but I will be here to help you through the whole process of cleaning. Removing malware can be difficult and complicated and will most likely take many steps, so please stick with me until I have declared your computer clean. I always recommend printing my instructions before following them in case you cannot keep this webpage open. Please be sure to alway follow all steps exactly as they are written and let me know what happens each time. Stop and ask if something unexpected happens or if you are unsure of how to proceed.

Please respect my volunteered time and stay with me until I declare your computer clean. If you are going to be delayed for a while, please let me know.

This can be indicative of the latest ZA infection, or it can be a corrupted AVG. Let's check it out with this scan:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

This is my first post to this site and I'm hoping I can find the help I've been looking for. I've been asked to fix a relatives computer (Windows Vista, 32 bit) and it seems to have the ZeroAccess malware that prevents downloading. If the overall process is the same, I have downloaded FRST and will run it with an experts approval. I will then post the scan log so a fix list can be generated.
I will only be able to work with the infected computer until around 7 oclock. I understand if there is not enough time to fix the computer but I can at least remove the malware if a fix list can be generated. I will then run MSE and malwarebytes until I can continue work with the computer next week. Can someone verify this approach?

I am still interested in fixing this issue if anyone is willing to help. I am not very familiar with ZeroAccess malware and any help would be appreciated. Thanks again

I have actually been getting this error for the past month, at least since March 29th. I've made several attempts to work around it but to no avail. It appears that there is an error with the other browsers as well. I have searched for solutions for this for several weeks, none of which fit my problem. I uninstalled my clamwin antivirus in favor of Windows Security Essentials, though, most people have fixed this problem by messing with AVG? I don't think I have AVG on my computer?

Anyway, if someone knows how to solve this problem please let me know, I'm willing to try anything.

I was having no computer issues.  I decided to run a scan with my av software.  It stuck at 99%, and was not responsive.  This has never happened before.  I was using ESET NOD32.  I just so happened to write what I saw, when it was frozen.  C:\Windows\Win S x S\amd_64_microsoft_wind....wushareduxresources.dll
It froze Windows 8.  So I had to force a shutdown by pressing power button, as nothing else would work.  When I got it to load Windows again, I used Tweaking Registry to bring it back to a previous date, which was a few days old.  Then I restarted again.  This time it went to Metro when it came back up, after signing in.  It never goes to Metro, nor do I want it to go there first.
I checked with Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit, and it found nothing.  Then I scanned with Malwarebytes.  It found nothing.  But it was not up to date, because of the registry change.  I updated then, and rescanned.  It found nothing.  So I thought I would do a shutdown, and start up again.  The power light did not go completely out, which was strange.  I waited, it still didn't go out.  So I forced it off, and waited a minute, then started it up.  This time it started back to the desktop, the way it normally does.  I knew the av program would show out of date, because I went back in time.  So I updated it, and checked the program to see if it needed an update while I... Hey, there is a known issue with a recent Windows Update (KB3022345), it causes an irrepairable corruption warning (which is a false report, the files are not corrupt in reality). If you have this update installed then do one of the following:
- Uninstall this update (it is Windows 10 preparation update) or
- Run the fix from The Tech Cookbook – Windows 7 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files

After the above, run another SFC /scannow. If you still get a corruption, attach it in your next post.

Hello everyone, I've been pondering a problem that I'm searching for a solution for, and I wonder if anyone would have any clues to an answer.

It's about computer backups, and I know a proper solution exists, it's just about how to get it to work the way I want. You see, as with anybody else, I have personal files that I couldn't suffer losing, such as my collection of pictures on my computer, for instance. Now, what I do regularly is simple backups of these files to external hard drive and DVD+RW's every x months. My point is that I don't keep different series of backups; I just keep overwriting my external drive and DVD's with the current backup, just to have the security of having a double of my data in a different geographic location in case of fire, flood, theft, etc. (knock on wood)

It occurs to me, however, that this system may not be entirely secure. What happens if, between the last backup and the current one, files on my system are modified in a way I didn't want? Or if someone else uses my computer and deletes files? Or if a file were accidentaly deleted, or even corrupted? In any of these cases, when I'd go do a backup, I'd be backing up a snapshot of My Documents that I don't quite want, because, unbeknownst to me, some of the files are corrupted or deleted, and it's not like I can go back in time and pull out a previous backup from (say) 2002 to recover a lost or damaged file. (The reason I won&#... Read more

Welcome to TSF....

Since you are downloading from unsafe zones and apparently using a P2P networking program like Kazaa, Limewire or the like to do so I do not think there is a good chance that you are not infected with some sort of virus, trojan or the like please to follow the instructions below carefully.

Also having the recovery/restore software for the computer would be a great help, if you do not have it please contact the manufacturer of the computer and order it ASAP....

So this is what happened: 2 days ago I performed a full scan of my pc with avg 2015 (paid version and updated) and after that I performed another fun scan with malwarebytes free version; the scans came back with 0 results, no virus or malwares were found. That was cool right? But guess what then? Yesterday I performed another full scan with both (1 at a time) and avg found a virus or malware called : "eID_pe_iscorrupted"
It said it was fixed and I shouldn't worried about. I'm using windows 8.1 and is updated so my question is, how could that virus be detected just a day after if I didn't download or even enter any suspicious website? The only thing I did during that period of time was analysing my pc to find errors (with avg) which sent me to download the tuneup but couldnt be installed because of "invalid key" even though I never enter any license so I went and downloaded from here http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-pctuneup and runned it and found many erros (registry, etc) which were fixed by the program. Then I uninstalled avg tuneup, that was all I did. Another thing you guys should know is that today I scanned my pc for errors with avg and it found the same errors it found yesterday which were "solved" by avg tune up, so what has happened?
I must say that the root of "eID_pe_iscorrupted" is C:\Users\Marco\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Cache\f_0017b8  , the virus was already deleted and showed... Read more

-SFC /Scannow has files it cannot repair
-Windows Repair downloads for WU do not help
-I ran Hijackthis and sent through hijackthis.de. (I'm including that file)
-Now in the past two weeks my system is warning me that I may have non-legit copy of Windows. (I bought this system new with Windows 7 Home Premium, and paid for upgrade to Pro. I'm 100% sure it's legit)

I have run from F8 Safe mode with Networking

Even though you don't want to do it, you're best bet is to backup then do a clean install, add SP1 and all updates then start moving your data back and install your programs.

Take the positive outlook on this and see it as an opportunity to install only the programs you want or need.

Yes it takes time but in the long run you will be much better off.

I recently updated a Windows 7 service pack and while it was updating, I opened GeForce Experience to see if there was an update for my graphics driver. When I did this, my PC crashed and after it booted up, I've had no sound ever since. I've done everything I can think of. Ran scans, an SFC scan, plugged my speakers and headphones in and out of every port, etc. There's that red X at the bottom of my volume control and it just says that no speakers or headphones are plugged in. I can't even configure or set defaults in the sound panel. When I click on the volume icon, it runs a troubleshoot, asks me what sound devices I'm wanting to get help with, and when I pick speakers or headphones, it simply says that they're unplugged.

Microsoft Support said that my audio is messed up due to the conflict between Windows updating and a third party program (GeForce) being ran at the same time. As far as the sfc scan goes, I've ran it multiple times with no luck, and I've even gone into my CBS.log to find out what the problem is. Towards the end of the results, there's about a paragraph length including "Audiocodec" problems and "Audioess.dll" corrupted files. This obviously is the problem. I've attached a picture where this occurs.

I'm hoping that this can be fixed without having to buy a new copy of Windows or a new soundcard. But if that ends up being the case then I will of course.

Please help! I will be eternally grateful. As you can imagine, a PC reall... Read more

Do you have a System Restore point that is BEFORE the updates? If you do, try restoring the PC using an available restore date that is BEFORE the updates. That may take care of the problems. You will have to reinstall the Win 7 updates and the Video updates (but do them one at a time).

A side comment. I see you have Windows 7 64 bit OS but only 4GB of RAM. 64 bit OS' main use is with more than 4GB of RAM. The 64bit OS requires more memory than the 32 bit OS thus you have less RAM available for programs. If your motherboard is capable of more than 4GB, consider upgrading to at least 6 or 8GB.

My Acer Aspire 5741 laptop was having major issues. Programs and applications kept stopping, crashing or freezing. And the worst thing is that it had started to just crash to a blue screen full of white code and collect data for a "Crash dump", then restart.

I decided to run system restore and restore it to factory settings. I backed up all my photos and music, then created a repair disk, as per Acer's instructions. Then ran the system restore. But I just received a message saying "Restore Failed - Error code= 0x570 (WIMApplyImage cannot apply image: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable)".

I use the repair disk to boot up, and it gives me the recovery options. I go to system restore, and it starts the job but after a couple of minutes just stops, giving me the same error message. Sometimes it gets to around 12%, sometimes around 30%, sometimes as much as 60%. But then just stops and gives me the error message.

(By the way, I have tried clicking on f10 to try that way of system restoring, but it doesn't do anything. A disk supplied by Acer should work fine; the disk you created copies from a partition on the hard disk, and it is likely that the partition itself had already been damaged in some way. A factory disk wouldn't have the same issues unless there is something more seriously wrong with your computer hardware.

Hello. First post. I have a problem that I not sure how to proceed. I still have a Windows XP 32-bit computer, for whatever reason it was still at SP2. Everything was good.

Last Friday afternoon (10/16) I decided to update it to SP3. I was logged in as a "power user", with I believed administrator group rights. I downloaded the big SP3 file: WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe. I executed the update and it stopped on a file "pchsvc.dll", it said the file size was wrong and the update aborted. I read this type of error might be due to insufficient privileges. I had to do other things and let the computer sit for 2 days.

I tried to install SP3 again on Sunday afternoon (10/18). This time logged in as true "administrator" account. SP3 still failed and the computer rebooted. I logged back in as administrator and realized windows was not working correctly. Here are the problems that I have now:

Most programs fail to execute, even simple programs. They fail with errors like "insufficient resources", or "application failed to initialize properly."

I tried to run "sfc /scannow" to see if it could correct the failed SP3 install. I have a SP2 install disc, but SFC wants a different disc and fails on multiple files.

On simple file copies I get a popup balloon that reads: "The file or directory $C:\Secure is corrupt or unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility". I tried running chkds... Read more

Welcome to the forum. You need to run the chkdsk c: /f it will say disk locked test on start say yes. there are two separate things a faulty hard drive is the drive its self faulty but a corrupt file system is a windows fault meaning the HD is ok but chkdsk need to sort out corrupt files.

I have a dual booted computer. I normally just use Ubuntu, however I started using Windows again (I found out about Steam). Issue is, this afternoon I tried to boot into it, but it wanted to scan my partition for errors (It was already slightly corrupted - Nothing major though, just a few unimportant programs and files were corrupted). However, the disk checking froze ~68%, and I forced shut-down-ed it.

When I restarted, GRUB stated something about not being able to find to device, but it still booted into Windows. Windows showed the 'Boot normally' option screen thing. From there, the screen goes black, then my PC reboots. None of the options seem to do anything.

Ubuntu can't read my NTFS partition anymore, and running ntfsfix on it gets the following error:

Index root attribute missing in directory inode 0x5: No such file or directory.
Remount failed: Input/output error.

Does anyone know a way to repair, or recover the data? Or is it eternally lost? I don't see how it can be that badly damaged, probably just a small issue in the lookup table or something.

I've been trying to get my computer back so that I can at least get some stuff on it I don't want lost for the past three days. I was updating an nvidia graphics driver and it froze. So I restarted my computer and things went down-hill from there.

Nothing I know to do (which is more than the average person) works. So most of (and perhaps all of) the quick fixes you all may suggest most likely have already been attempted at least once.

What I am experiencing now is a black screen with a gray bar on the top and bottom. The top is titled: Windows Boot Manager. This is written in the gray bar. The rest of the screen reads:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart you computer.
2. Choose your language setting and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacture for assistance.

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible.

I am hoping someone can help me get make it so I can at least get some files off. System restore or anything like that is out of the picture because I was planning on getting an external hard drive for backing up, and haven't been able to yet. Ironically, payday is this Friday.

Anyway, I've even tried using ubuntu and also putting the HDD in another computer. Both ways it says that ... Read more

Did you try the suggested startup repair options with the windows 7 dvd/repair disc?

It may take several runs and will at least attempt to repair the partition table.

If you tried that already , then use the commands instead of auto startup repair - usually does the job.

If you have the disc and want further advice, post back.

If you don't have a 7dvd/repair disc , get one from here - the same bit version as your installed o/s ( torrent, but it's usually quick ):

I have had an issue installing 4 recent updates. The error is Code 80073712. Looking this up, it seems to be a system file issue, so I ran SFC /SCANNOW. When I review the log, there aren't any [SR] entries to indicate there is a problem with any files. I have attached the CBS.log

Does anyone have any suggestions with the CBS.log issue, and/or the above Code for the failure of the updates?

The code is pretty much useless, but after the scan completes, you have the option to "View Log", which will display the results in plain English.    If you open the Lenovo Solutions Center, click on Hardware Scan, you will be presented the option to "See Last Results"   If you click on that option, you can then click on the 3.5" diskette icon above the "Final Result Code" to save the log to a file that you can then attach to a reply if desired. Cheers,

I have some issues with my Windows 10 Pro OS. So far, there are few problems I am facing and they are as follows: (For now)
1: When I put my PC into sleep mode/hibernation, every time, the PC auto wakes up at 2:00 am and at 1:00 pm (UK time)
1.1: This is another issue with putting PC in sleep mode/hibernation. whenever I put PC into sleep mode and then I try to login back it works good but after every 4 consecutive sleep modes/hibernations and sometimes only with one sleep mode/hibernation, the PC won't show up the login screen. The monitor screens just goes black and moving keyboard/mouse or doing anything won't help and I am forced to press the restart button or must completely shutdown and boot again in order to be able to use the PC again.

So in summary, the PC is limited only to sometimes 1 time and most of the times 4 consecutive times sleep modes/hibernations and must be restarted or shutdown.
2: Recently I tried to run SFC /Scannow but the scan stops at 62% and gives the following error message:

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 62% complete.
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

I also ran SFCFix and attached both SFC and SFCFix Logs.
3: Since Windows 10 Anniversary Update, I tried many times to update my Windows via ISO (download the correct ISO) about a month ago, I wasn't been able to update the Windows.
The update runs fine up un... Read more
