Full size desktop keyboard that emulates the feel of the keyboard of the Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th Gen

Q: Full size desktop keyboard that emulates the feel of the keyboard of the Thinkpad X1 Carbon 7th Gen

Hi there, I have been using an X1 carbon 7 gen Laptop for over 6 months, and I absolutely love the tactile feel, sound and the crispness of the keys! On ocassion, I have the HDMI of my laptop plugged into a larger 38" monitor, wich it powers well. I am loooking for a desktop/ full size keyboard, that would emulate the feel and satisfaction I get from using the keyboard of my X1 Carbon 7th Gen. I have gone through several, including the Lenovo 500 Series. Nothing compares or even comes close. Does anyone have any suggestions? It could be a 3rd party manufacturer or even Lenovo....doesn't matter...I thoroughly enjoy typing on my laptop, and would like to have the same experience when doing it on the fuller size keyboard. Any advice, suggestions or insight will be greatly appreciated? Thank you kinldy in advance!Shahmn

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am not sure if I am in the right forum, but this whole site is so difficult to navigate. There are no suppot numbers, and no-one to call. I am on a different computer now because my keyboard on my X1 Carbon Thinkpad has suddenly stopped working. I can get a keyboard to come up on the screen (and type in using external mouse) but none of the keys on the actual keypad work. None of the keys work. Some of the FN keys work. I have tried Ctrl + Alt + Del.

Hey everyone! I'm probably going to come off as super petty but I just want to check to see if the noises I get from different keys is normal. The backspace and down arrow keys are quite a bit noiser when clicked than any other buttons on the keyboard. I first noticed how loud the down arrow key was versus the other arrow keys. Are these normal differences that you all are experiencing or are these issues I should try to warranty? Like I said, I'm sure I'm coming off as petty but it's a brand new laptop for me and one I spent quite a bit of money on so I want to make sure everything's okay. Thanks for the feedback!

Heyo,I'm having problems a bit with my Lenovo thinkpad x1 carbon gen 3 Whenever I type certain keys together they will make a beeping noise, I found that it is due to "unmanagable keystrokes".So certain shortcuts, typing fast, etc. don't seem to work as well because it just results into a beep. The problem I have is that when I use the combination of "Shift" and the "." key to try to make ">", it won't work and will only result into a beep. I'm not so worried about the beeping noise because I can turn off it in the BIOS, but I was wondering if there is a fix to just get it register 2 keys at once or preferably more.

I have a T410 and a T440s, and I have had both keyboards out for repair or drying. In both cases I'm left with a few keys in either the top right (T440s) or lower right (T410) corner that work fine, but they feel different and make a very obvious hollow rattling sound when pressed.  I assume that something is not positioned or seated properly upon re-assembly. I don't see anything out of alignment, but I assume that I did not re-install them quite right. Any tips on how I can get that nice quiet ThinkPad feel back on those problem keys?  T440s the keys are: Insert, Delete, Backspace, +, ] and [T410 the keys are: Up, Down and Right arrows

So I bought the X1 Carbon (6th Gen), because we had one at my office which had an excellent, snappy keyboard. I have now ordered two different units and returned them, because the keys just aren't the same as on the one at my office. They feel much shallower and some of the keys, including the TrackPoint left-click button, make a noise that sounds like I am pressing against plastic wrap when I hit them. I have put the computer right next to the one at my office and the keys sound and feel completely different. Has anyone else had this issue? Are there different manufacturers for the keyboards with some good and some bad?

The keyboard on my Gen 1 X1 Carbon (Model 3444-CT0) has failed (I've lost "9", "O", "L" and ".") so I'd like to change it. The complete assembly with bezel, including touchpad and fingerprint reader is easy to buy, but expensive as I only need the keyboard. I've found a source for a new keyboard alone (FRU 04Y0798) but can't work out how to seperate it from the bezel to swap over. There are no obvious screws or retainers and the old keyboard seems solidly fixed to the bezel.Does anyone have any tips to remove and replace the keyboard module only? Thanks!<

I am not certain I've identified the part correctly, but this looks like the French Canadian keyboard for the X1 Carbon Gen 3 (MT-M beginning 20BS or 20BT). If so, I believe the part you need is FRU 00HT302 or 00HN947 (the two are equivalent, just made by different manufacturers). You should be able to find a supplier online - I'd start looking on the Lenovo site for options in your country (click).

Hi all, I tried the search function but couldn't find exactly what I was after. I'm in the market for a new ThinkPad, which will be my main computer for work (in the office with external display as well as on the road) and also at home. I'm travelling a lot so portability is key but on the other hand I don't want to compromise too much on performance. Graphics are not particularly important as I don't play any games or do video editing. The computer will mainly be used for Excel (financial modelling) and PowerPoint as well as occasionally media consumption when on the road.  Against this background, which laptop do you consider most suitable? Should I go for the X1 Carbon Extreme or P1 for the sheer power or better to wait for the X1 Carbon 7th Gen (portability) or the Yoga 4th Gen (media)? Thanks!! klasmeister

Owner of X1 Carbon 5th and 6th Gen here. I understand that the X1 Carbon line does not have the Ambient Light Sensor like the X1 Yoga, which I assume can turn on/off based on amount of light available. However, is there any way to make the backlit keyboard behave similarly to laptops and keyboards from other manufacturers where the light would only turn on when the user press any key and would only stay on for few seconds regardless of ambient light? If this feature is not available, is there a place where customers could submit feature requests?

Is it possible to enable this function when low light is detected?  I think a similliar feature is available on other laptops but not sure if its available on the X1C? I know FN + Spacebar will manually turns the backlight on.

AFAIK there's no light sensor so that function isn't available. I agree that it's a good idea. Maybe in the next iteration of the new keyboard.

Hi, I have a version of Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon with really weird keyboard. The left Shift key is smaller (half of the regular sized Shift in other Lenovos) and between the left Shift and the "Z" key there is another button marked with two arrows (arrow ">" on the top corner of the key and arrow "<" below), however it's function is identical to the slash key placed next to the Enter (the one doing "\" and "|"). Rarely I use the slash, and I have never used the "|" line, so I don't need two buttons doing the same thing. But the left Shift I use frequently and it's too small for me. I'd love to remap the useless key with arrows and make it the second left Shift key (so no matter which key, left Shift or the useless arrows key I hit, I get the same effect - Shift effect). In the attachment you can see pic of the keybord, so that you know what I mean. I have no clue how this weird arrows key is named and why the keyboard have two keys with identical role placed in different places and marked with differeny symbols. Please, please, please tell me there is a way to do it. We've purchased about 2 dozen 4th gen x1 carbons, machine type 20fb, and have been having some intermittent keyboard issues with multiple laptops.  At least 3 different units have had problems where the keyboard doesn't seem to work at all.  After power on, we press F12, F1, or Enter to try and access different functions, but they have no effect.  Once windows loads, we still can't type anything.   The first time my tech ran into this, he rebooted a few times and was still experiencing the same issue, he set the laptop aside for me to look at.  When I turned it on, they keyboard was functioning normally.  Later, after loading our image on the computer, he was preparing to deploy it to a user when the keyboard stopped working again. I fired up a new laptop this morning, fresh out of the box, and had the same issue, a non-functional keyboard.  In this case at least, the touchpoint/touchpad didn't work either.  I rebooted, tried to get into UEFI config, and after a couple of more reboots I tried pxe booting, but nothing I pressed on the keyboard seemed to help.  I turned the laptop off and put a note on it that it had a bad keyboard, but when my tech came in and turned it on a couple of hours later, they keyboard is working fine.   I've got one in front of me right now that was working this morning, but now the touchpad/point aren't responding.  Keyboard is working though.  L...
