Unable to configure network properties

Q: Unable to configure network properties

as you can see the properties button does not lit up and remains grey out although i click on IPV4, why is this happening? i was open it a few years ago

Preferred Solution: Unable to configure network properties

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running Hyper-V on Windows 10 Pro and trying to install CentOS 6 on a VM. I define an external virtual switch, create a VM, specifying the use of the external virtual switch. I have 2 NICs on the host system, both with network access and internet access. The external virtual switch creation specifies the use if the Intel NIC and creates a vEthernet definition in the control panel. When I install the VM, it has an ifcfg-eth0 that specifies dhcp and onboot=no. When I run ifconfig -a I see a definition for vibr0 that has in IPv4 address of My network is 192.168.200.nnn and even though service network restart says it is OK, I cannot see anything on my network. There is no ifcfg-vibr0 defined so I can't change the IP address to one that works.

I am not able to access or change my network settings.

Windows XP Home SP 3

I do the following:

Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties.

Then get these error message

"Some of the controls on this property sheet are disabled because one or more other Network property sheets
are already open. To use these controls, close all these property sheets and then reopen this one"

Tried rebooting, tried disabling local area connection then rebooting and re-enabling still no luck.

Only other thing I can think of is that I tried VMWare (new browser version) did not like and uninstalled it.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

This is a fairly new install of Windows 8 pro (within the last month), and while trying to set up a static ip up today I found that I was unable to access the network properties or disable the connection in the Network Connections. I am pretty stumped as I am the only user of this computer and from what I can tell have the correct permissions to do so. When trying to check the properties it tells me "an unexpected error has occurred" with no further information.

Has anyone had this problem and found a fix?

It sounds like you aren't using an Admin account on this machine.

Under Computer Management, Local Users and Groups>Users, you should see your name there, under the Member Of' Tab, you should be listed at a member of the Administrators and Home Users. You can add the credentials if you aren't.

I have to plan this project, would need some help how to do it!

The organisation would like all their users to have access to the internet. The business has requested that you configure an internet gateway for their users in the office.

The meeting identifies it needs to incorporate the following requirements:

1. Internet service via a reputable service provider
2. Ensure minimal disruption to current LAN services when implementing
3. Enable required security measure

Part 1. Assess the client's hardware requirements with consideration to their requirements for an internet gateway.

Part 2. contact vendors and obtain technical specifications in obtaining any hardware, software and configuration the existing LAN with internet access

Part 3. In the form of a presentation provide a recommendation to the management of the business for configuration of internet access that includes a plan for implementation. The presentation also should incorporate the specific of hardware, software and ISP that will be required to detailing any costs that may be involved.

Hey guys!

Maybe someone can help me out with these questions I have:

2) What is "QoS Packet Scheduler" ?

3) Is it safe to disable these options?

I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me out.

Response to Q3:
1. No. Not if you want to have a LAN of Windows PCs.

Plus if your want to share files and a printer on a LAN you'd need to enable FIle and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks.

Gooday all. I have a laptop set up for my entertainment area. I am using an HDMI cord from laptop to a screen and using the sound output to a set of surround sound speakers. This a pretty cheap set up,nothing fancy. I am trying to get all the speakers recognized by my Realtek Sound Management application. The Lasptop (http://speccy.piriform.com/results/J...8QITBgvOYgX6Ol) is only recognizing a 2 speaker stereo set up. How am I able to change this so as to be able to adjust settings to the 6 speakers of the system. Thanks in advance.

A:Unable to configure speakers on Laptop.

Looking at the Speccy, I don't see anything other than RealTek HD Audio. If the laptop has a RealTek HD Audio Manager, have you tried setting the speaker type there?

Aside from the audio issue, I notice you only have 2GB of RAM. The 64 bit OS does you no good with only 2GB of RAM, and can be an issue with only the 2GB which is bare minimum for a 64 bit OS. The main reason for using a 64 bit OS is to use more than 4GB of RAM, since a 32 bit OS cannot address 4 GB (or more) of RAM.

Hello all.

My Dell Inspiron 3520 was going quite slow for unknown reasons so I decided to 'refresh' it using Windows advanced start-up setting. Since that time I have been unable to install Windows updates. Well, I can 'install' them, but they won't 'configure'. Once installed and 'configured' 100% I get this error message advising following reboot : "Failure to configure updates. Reverting changes". The laptop then stays paralysed on that screen.

This only started to happen AFTER I "refreshed" my laptop, which was running Windows 8.1 pretty-much problem-free, though a bit slowly, until a week ago. For now I have found a temporary 'fix' by disabling automatic updates; otherwise the laptop is constantly stuck on the "failure to configure updates" error page (because, obviously, it's automatically attempting to install updates). I have done all the standard troubleshooting, including running MS Fix It, Dell Dr ('My Dell' found no hardware issues), MS Malware removal and Mcafee anti-malware. All reported "no issues". I have been in command prompt and found no issues I even tried to 'refresh' the laptop again two more times. I have also spoken to two Windows "technicians" and allowed one of them to remotely access my laptop. He found no issues or "violations".

Obviously, the temporary 'fix' of turning off auto-updates isn't a long term solution, and 'refreshing' the laptop hasn't helped (it actual... Read more

After restoring my new laptop back to factory settings (to fix problem I was having with MSE), I find that I am now unable to configure my restore points. The following drives appear in the Restore Config window with Restore set to 'On':

Hello everyone,

I'm about at my wit's end trying to figure out my problem and finally decided I should ask the pros for help, since an exhaustive search of the interwebs has turned up nothing. I'm a hobby PC user so please be patient with me. So here is my problem.

I recently bought all the stuff to build an HTPC/gaming rig for my girlfriend and I and I wanted to set up RAID 1 but no matter what I try, I can't get it to work. Here is my rig.

ASRock H77 Pro4-M mobo
Intel i7-2600
(2) 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm; 6.0GB/s HDD
(4) 2GB G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR 1600 RAM
EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti Video Card
Cooler Master 600W Silent Power supply

I think that's about it.

Here is what I've done.

I went into bios and set my storage configuration to RAID. After, I saved and exited, and allowed the machine to reboot. When it did, I pushed Ctrl + I to enter the RAID volume setup menu. I labeled the volume, chose RAID 1, selected my drives, selected my size, and saved and exited. Then I booted from my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (Dell OEM, if that matters). I selected my regional settings, and when prompted, accepted the terms and selected "Custom" install. At the drive select screen, I saw one disk, which I believe is what I should see. I highlighted the drive and selected "Load Drivers." I used the driver labeled with the arrow in the attatched image. I got it from my mobo's website found here ASRock > Products > H77 Pro4-M. After the driver loaded, I re... Read more

A:Unable to configure RAID on Windows 7 Home Premium

Why do you want RAID? WIn7 doesn't much like RAID which isn't even Redundant so risks losing both HD's if one fails. Better to install to one HD and use the other for backing up an image.

If you saw one correctly-sized RAID array when you booted into the installer to try hardware RAID then the driver wasn't needed as it's only loaded when no drive shows up. Try again.

Hi, I recently purchased a pair of Corsair Vengeance 2000 wireless USB headphones. However, when I installed them and tried to use them, I came across a rather unusual problem. I couldn't test them, or set them as default device, or configure them. It's like Windows doesn't recognise them. All the drivers are installed correctly .

I have also tried them on another computer, with the same version of Windows and they worked fine, so I know that there is no problem with the headphones.

I am running RealTek HD audio just incase it is needed.

A:Unusual problem: No sound bar for headset and unable to configure them

Sounds like they could have a corrupt status in Windows. Connect the headphones then go to the Device Manager, either the headphones will be listed in the sounds and audio devices or there will be an unknown device listed in the USB section. In either case, RIGHT click on the entry and then LEFT click"Uninstall". Then disconnect the headset and restart the PC. After Windows starts, connect them and Windows should detect and install them, like a new installation. This may take care of the problem.

Exactly what the title says. When i try to view properties on anything from a desktop shortcut to a disk drive the computer wont let me. No error box or anything it just wont open properties.

I found a question similar to this but the answer required some addres bar in "my computer" (eg. C:/program files/example) but I dont have that on "my computer". Is that another problem? Can it be fixed or will I have to work around it?

A:unable to view properties

Hi Nube, thats an interesting delema. I don't think I have ever heard of this occuring. Let's see if you and I can figure out whats going on here. Now if you right click on a short cut there is usually no properties to click on, but the disk drives should have a properties option. Let's see if its just the short cuts and disk drives or if it's everything. Go to start - control panel. Then click on systems icon. Click on the device manger button. Then choose something in there and right click it. See if you get a properties option there that you can open. Then let me know.

I will monitor this thread throughout the day. If you resolve this problem on your own or with the info I provided please let me know so I can move on to other issues. Also please mark this thread solved using the quick tools option located at the top of this thread.

A couple problems:

- unable to a change the program associated with a file type (ex. the .pdf file extension is associated with Word, but the Change/Delete buttons are "grayed out" and I am unable to click on that to fix the problem.

- Cannot open an attachment from e-mails. Error message: "The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions. *Check the file permissions for the document or drive. *Use the File Open dialog box to access the document..." I also tried doing a right-click, Save as on the document and was still unable to open it (same message in Word).

I think that there is something messed up with the drive permissions or something in the C: drive. Does this make sense? If so, how do I check/fix it?

If your router is already configured i.e if you were already using it to connect to the internet using your old PC then the process is very simple. Leave the cabling as it is except for the ethernet cable which you should now plug into your new PC as apose to your old one. If you have any MAC filtering on the router, either disable it or re-configure it to match your new machine's MAC

I click on 'Properties'> configure, click on 'Advanced' tab and I'm shown a list of things that have 'Value' next to the items. A lot of those things, on the list, show 'enable'--- should I enable any of them or leave them alone?

I moved my HDD with windows XP from one computer to another. Since my previous broke down(due to my house burning down :S. Managed to save the HDDs). At startup windows wouldn't start, all new hardware. Didn't exactly expect it to start either.

So I did a windows repair and I got it to boot. Everything is working fine except that I can't get my internet connection up and running.

I went to "network connections" in the control panel(translated. Might not be named exactly that on an english OS). Theres no connections there so I choose "create a new connection"(on the menu to the left) > "connect to the internet" > "install my connection manually" > "connect with a connectiong that is always up".

All I get is "theres already a working connection thats configured". And the "finish setup"

I tried poking around with the settings but I always end up with that msg.

The same connection works with this computer so I the modem and etc is working.

And oh, the computer doesn't even respond when I put the cord in. I just get the lights at the back.

We're trying to set up a LAN with W2K but our network admin only knows Novell. When I asked him to set up an HP printer on the network he said he'd have to reconfigure the NIC to work with W2K instead of Netware and didn't know off hand how to do this.

First of all, is that true? Do you really have to manually set something on the NIC? And, secondly, if it is true, does anyone know what needs to be changed?

I can't go to a manual because the network admin doesn't believe in keeping stuff like that. Good grief!

I've had something happen to my Windows XP Pro network connection properties.

No matter what I do the under the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties it always defaults back to Obtain an IP address automatically. I'm trying to assign a static IP.

I've been using this computer in a static IP mode for approximately 6 years. Monday all #$%^ breaks loose and I'm still trying to recover.

The registry still holds the proper information, but for some reason everytime I view it from the properties tab it's back to auto.

Something's got a hold of me.

After upgrading from W2K Pro to XP Pro the NIC in my system continued to function but the IP configuration could not be viewed or modified. The hardware information was not displayed in the Properties for the LAN connection, and no components (clients, TCP/IP services, etc.) were listed for the LAN connection. If I clicked on Add, the components would suddenly show up, but I couldn't open anything to change TCP/IP settings. The device (Intel 10/100 NIC on the motherboard) showed up in the device manager as working properly.

First I attempted to update the driver with the latest XP version downloaded from the OEM, and XP said it could not find a better driver than the one already installed.

I attempted to remove the device from the device manager and got a message that it could not be removed because the device might be needed to boot the computer (?). But then it removed it from the list of devices anyhow. That's when the real trouble began.

Upon rebooting, Windows XP detected new hardware, installed the driver, and said to reboot. But after reboot, the NIC appears in the device manager with a (!), the device manager says the device is not working properly because the driver could not be loaded. Now there are NO connections listed at all in the Network Places, and I cannot configure set up any new connections. Subsequent attempts to updating the driver (from several sources) does no good.

I disabled the integrated NIC in the BIOS, and and installed a 3Com NIC. ... Read more

What type of ISP do you have? Cable or DSL etc.
Try this go into control Panel > Add/remove programs > Windows Components Wizard > Network Services
That is where all your actual windows programs are.
you can see if your correct settings are there for internet connectivity.
But 1st I would try to uninstall the on board NIC in safe Mode then hopefully it won't argu with you on reboot to get the new drivers.
Also unplug the Network Cable from the back of the PC when trying to uninstall it. reset your ISP Modem.
Then make sure you have auto select in IE to detect network settings
Hope this helps

I have connected my laptop to the Internet using a wireless PCMCIA card and a router. Using the same card and router for my wife's laptop the browser (IE7 or Firefox) responds "Cannot find server" to all addresses although the card claims it is connected.

somehow I managed to accidently delete a folder of important pictures. So I go to trash can, and highlight and click restore. It goes to my OneDrive file. I click Home, and Move To, My Pictures. I go to My Pictures, and open the folder, and try to share the picture, then I try to edit the picture, and it says, "An unexpected error kept you from copying the file...." Then error # 0x80270113. I have tried to restore from the one drive trash can, and even after searching Google for a while, and trying several different remedies I found there, I still can't access the pictures.

Even though Windows Photo Viewer can not open the file that is in my pictures, the Photo's app will open it but I still can't edit, save as, or anything else. I don't understand why the Photo app can open it, but Windows Photo Viewer can't, even though the files are saved as .jpg, other than the properties box being marked hidden. However, the hidden box is marked, it is greyed out, so I can't change it. How do I fix this? Let me know what information I left out, because I always forget something LOL.

I have just recently acquired a brand new laptop running Windows 8, and I'm experiencing an issue with editing the details of MP3 files. I can right-click any MP3 to open its properties and access the Details tab, but when I click on the fields for the different tags, nothing happens.

I don't recall ever having this issue on my previous laptop with Windows Vista, so I'm at loss trying to understand what is going on here. I'm not very tech savvy about the subject of permissions and accessibility, but it doesn't really seem to be related to that. The files are listed under my local user directory.

My daughters' Satellite laptop just came back from Comp USA where it had been for some major restorative surgery. None of her previous software made the return trip home....

I had bought her a Netgear wireless card, which we thought that she had lost some time ago...hence the disk was picthed. I found the wireless card...go figure...in a pocket in the heavy duty case I got her on eBay. I inserted the card and Windows kindly offered to reinstall the software, but alas..no disk. I've physically plugged the machine into our LAN and visited Netgear's site where I downloaded (at a paionfully slow pace..unusual as we are on broadband) what I assume is the correct driver. The files I downloaded are zipped, but none of them actually appear to be self-installing.

I have extracted the files but there does not seem to be any way to make any of them do what I need. I can list the filenames/extensions if that would be useful. Sincere thanks to anyone who can find the time to help.
