Yoga 2 Pro Slow When Lid is Closed

Q: Yoga 2 Pro Slow When Lid is Closed

I'm using a Yoga 2 Pro with an external monitor via HDMI. It works fine when the lid is open, whether the display is extended, cloned or second screen only. However, as soon as I close the lid, the system gets very slow and I experience redraw issues. I think it may be with the way the graphics card handles the monitor's resolutions. I do not have room on my desk to open the lid, so I need a solution so I can work with my external monitor and the lid closed. Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've had this laptop for about 2 years now, great laptop, i'm running windows 10 now. I recently accidentally hit the laptop while it was closed though, and i think that might have screwed up the open/close detection. When I close the laptop, sometimes it does not go to sleep and heats up my backpack until it dies and i can't use it when i want to. I have to press the side power button to make sure it goes to sleep. When I open up the laptop after it was in sleep mode, I have to press a button for it to turn it back on... I'm wondering if there is a fix i can do, to the software or hardware of the laptop.

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and am loving my Y2P so far. I have been following several threads about tweaking my new machine, and I love the sense of community that you guys have here. I decided to join so I could pose a question: Has anyone had a problem with their machine waking up with the lid closed (in sleep mode). Sometimes when I take my computer out of my bag, it is awake. Since the power button is so hard to press in the first place, I don't think an accidental press is waking it up. Could a device be waking it up? What do you guys think? -IB

Yes, I have this too. Bad thing is I always have that in a laptop case so everytime when it wakes up it is baking-hot.

We currently have ThinkPads with mechanical docking stations.  When docked, we can turn the ThinkPads on and off with the lid closed using the power switch on the docking station. We are considering getting X1 Yogas (3rd Gen.) with Thunderbolt 3 external docks.  (Monitor and keyboard would connect to the dock in the office.) Using the power switch on the side of the X1 Yoga, can the Yoga be turned on and off with the lid closed?  Would the Power Options for "When I close the lid" have to be changed to "Do nothing"? If somebody is using this configuration, or if somebody with an X1 Yoga (3rd Gen.) could do a quick experiment, I would be very grateful for any information you could provide. Thanks.

I don't have my Lenovo TB3 dock with me, so the following issue may not be relevant to your users: I use an old Microsoft USB-C Continuum Dock, and your scenario doesn't work quite right on that one: hitting power with the lid closed, the laptop goes to sleep, but then waking it with the power button, the monitor connected to the Continuum Dock doesn't receive signal. The only fix is to open the X1 Yoga, wake it, close the lid (sleeps the system), and waking it again, after which things work fine again. Maybe a graphics driver bug or a Continuum dock firmware bug.  Maybe someone with ... Read more

Hi, Sometimes when I close the lid off my Yoga 260 Windows 10 are not going to sleep. The behaviour is really weird because the red light on the lid is blinking like when it's in sleep mode, but I can hear the rotating fan. When I open the lid it's even weirder. Windows are not locked and I am not prompt for a password. The whole system is very laggy. The mouse is moving in jumps and there is not any response to keyboard or screen touch. After few seconds/minutes the system is suddenly OK like nothing happend. This is not happening all the time and I was not able to see any pattern when this happens. What should I do to get rid of this? Thx for help.

Hey fellow Yoga users, Most of the time I use my Yoga 710 14 IKB connected to an external screen together with a mouse and a keyboard running it in a desktop like state, here I don't need the 2nd/original screen of the Yoga. Unfortunately, I've to open the Yoga's lid (which is BTW. kinda annoying with this device) to power the device ON -> It would be really great to do so without the necessity to open the lid when using it in my 'desktop mode'. Is there a way power it ON in its closed state? Thanks, Timur

Hi!I have a bizzare issue with my Gen 1 X1 Yoga. The machine will not sleep when the lid is closed. I know this is not a software issue as holding a magnet above the sensor (in between the caps lock and shift key on the left keyboard bezel) sleeps the machine. Does anyone know where / what the magnet is thats meant to interact with this sensor? I assume it is meant to be positioned somewhere in the Screen bezel? if so does anyone know if this is something that could potentially be checked / serviced by a user or will i be bringing my machine to a repair centre.Cheers

Hello! Got a weird issue with a Yoga 700-14ISK in my fleet that started late last week. It will no longer charge if the lid is closed and/or if the unit is powered off.  The only way the unit will charge is if the lid is open and the unit is powered on. I've checked everything I can possibly think of and can't find a solution.  Has anyone here seen anything like this before? Thanks in advance!

Hi,I close the lid, the 710 sleeps. I move the external mouse, the 710 wakes. No other laptop I've got does that, I'd consider it a bug. As a work-around you can untick "Allow this device to wake the computer", on the Power Management tab of the HIB-Compliant Mouse properties dialog. Now the mouse won't wake the laptop when the lid is closed, or open of course, which is not ideal. I then changed the wireless mouse, replacing an old Logitech with a new JETech 2.4GHz 0885, the untick was repeated but the mouse still woke the 710. Luckily a documented oddity it seems and unticking "Allow this device to wake the computer" for the HID Keyboard fixed the problem. No idea why one mouse needed this but not the other one. Is this problem of an external mouse waking a closed laptop specific to this model I wonder, and is it likely to get fixed? Cheers

I have a Yoga 3 Pro 1370. I am getting "ghost touches" on the touch screen when the lid is closed (I am using an attached monitor and screen). The touch screen should be disabled when the lid is closed. Is there a fix for this? I have searched for other reports of this problem and have found some other posts and links to solutions. However these are all (as far as I can tell)  solutions for similar issues on other models and do not apply to my laptop. Please note that I am looking for a solution for this issue specifically for the Yoga 3 Pro 1370 model.

Most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Computer goes to sleep when lid is open, and wakes when lid is closed. I can open it about 20 degrees and work on it like nothing's wrong. I tried turning off the lid-sleep option in Windows, but no change, and it goes to sleep instantly even if it's in the BIOS or mid-boot. The machine is practically new with very little changed from the stock configuration, and it was fine yesterday. Anyone ever seen this? Also the power button and little reset hole seem to not do anything anymore either.

OK so I have a number of problems with the fifteen or so ThinkPad Yoga 12 devices we have purchased. Some of these problems are being addressed in other threads (the black screen on start up which requires you swipe the screen in Windows 10 release 2 being one of them), but I'll just start with one problem for now to keep things clear. On my desk I have a ThinkPad Yoga 12. I have a ThinkPad UltraDock Pro USB 3.0 docking station, the newest revision. Connected are an external mouse and keyboard, a LAN cable, and 2 external monitors. The Yoga 12 is connected via the USB 3 cable, and the lid is closed. Both screens are up, LAN and input devices working, everything seems good. Every so often, the mouse cursor will magically jump to the bottom-right of the left external monitor and a left-click event is registered causing the Windows calendar to pop up. Happens maybe twice an hour. All devices are running clean Windows 10 1511 builds, fully patched. Also running ThinkPad System Update to get all latest drivers and latest BIOS revision. Latest DisplayLink driver is applied. Problem persists across all devices. How do we stop the ghost clicks from happening? The issue is driving my users crazy. The docking station specifically listed compatability with the Yoga 12 model so I don't see why there should be a problem. I've heard reports the situation is improved if the lid of the Yoga 12 is left open, but we lose deskspace this way and my users tell me this isn't a ... Read more

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Can you please post the full model number of you computer?

Just some guessing.

Guess 1: I noticed there was some other discussion about "Ghost Clicks" on this forums. Can you check if those clicks are made by the touch screen? Does it shows the Windows animation like someone is touching the screen?
Just in case can you post your full model number and the hardwareID of your monitor.

Also take a look at this article: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/yoga-series/yoga-3-1470/documents/ht1...

Guess 2: There was a driver update for Synaptics that shuts down the trackpoint when you close the lid. Can you check if your computer has a Synaptics trackpoint/touchpad. Check out the version of the driver.

...this are only wild guesses according to what I had read on this forums. But if you tell me that you don't have those problems if you disconnect the Ultradock Pro USB 3.0, maybe the issue is somewhere else.

I have a Yoga 700-11ISK, and would frequently put it to sleep, put it in my backpack, & pull it out hours later to find it RED hot & the battery 90% drained.  After wasting an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out why it kept doing this (and damaging other items in my backpack due to the extreme heat), I came across this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/25982/page/2 The problem is that the keyboard remains active even when the lid is closed, so if it gets squeezed in such a way that the screen internally presses a key, it will silently wake itself up.  Apparently Lenovo has spent the past four years churning out laptop after laptop that suffer from this defect, never thinking to learn from their mistakes.  Here are more:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Return-of-the-wake-while-lid-closed-proble...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/35267/page/6 I've tried the hack/script solution proposed in the first thread, but it doesn't work (the keyboard can't be disabled by DevManView without a reboot).  The other threads apply to the Yoga 900, which I guess Lenovo fixed with a BIOS update. This issue is such a problem that I've literally stopped carrying the laptop around...which was th... My Yoga 920 seems to ranomly wake from sleep when the lid is closed. I'd had several occasions when travelling to find my latop completely dead when I needed it - or finding it burning up in the confines of my bag. A few times, I've been alerted to problem when I happen to hear my laptop make a notification sound. When this happens, the screen is already on when I open the lid and much of the bettery has been used. I've seen this occur both in and out of my bag. Nothing is plug into the laptop other then the dummy USB holder for the pen. I have Vantage installed and all updates have been applied.

Ok, several months ago I downloaded Bearshare and it seemed to work fine for a few days causing no problems, I could close it out and surf the web fine, then all of a sudden if I used it and then closed it, I could not surf unless I restarted 2 or 3 times. Sometimes I could get it to work after the "page could not be displayed" showed up by clicking on the "detect network settings" link on the page. So I uninstalled it and have been having no problems since, but I decided to try Kazaa Lite yesterday and it works great and I could even surf while it was downloading, but today I can't hardly surf at all, anywhere, it took me twenty min. just to get on here, I keep getting the "page could not be displayed" could this be a coincidence or do P2P programs just not like my computer? I am running XP Home and have DSL. Any ideas? Or maybe my ISP decided to have problems today.

While the laptop is plugged in, closing the lid works properly (in my case, sleeps) and when the lid is subsequently opened it wakes correctly.
If I close the lid while unplugged, the laptop seems to power off hard - the front LED goes out immediately, and when I open the lid the machine boots from cold. The event viewer shows a critical Kernel Power error.
If I close the lid while plugged in, the front LED blinks - I assume this means going to sleep?, but then if I unplug power the machine powers off hard - same reboot and critical error when I open the lid.
I have 1.2.21 firmware.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Hi

I have only joined to relay that we had this same problem with 3 systems. All were virus free and no remedy seemed to work. In the end I acted, rather rashly, on a hunch that I'd had all along that it was down to Ms Updates.
I simply opened 'ad remove programs', went back to when I remembered it all started, and removed a handful of updates, one at a time, that were installed automatically around Feb /March this year.

Possibly a tad silly of me but I was rather near to reformatting.
Anyhow - for all 3 of our notebooks it worked like a dream.
No more busting a gut for 10 mins and doing, visibly, nothing, not being able to do anything, multiple applications 'not responding' and having to switch off manually, restart, and the inevitable hour long checkdisk.

I wouldn't claim for a moment that this is the answer for everyone - I'm just relaying our experience and what worked for us. I don't even remember exactly which ones they were - there were a couple of 'hot fixes' - thatís all I can tell you.

In the future I intend to keep a watch on what updates are auto installed and what the system runs like as a result...

Best regards.

Hello! I have been using X1 (20FQ) for almost two years and found a glitch. I sometimes play Overwatch and in recent video driver updates from Lenovo I saw a drastic decrease in FPS in this game.I was unable to find the actual old Lenovo repackaged video driver (cause Lenovo doesn't provide links to archive drivers), but I check Intel original drivers. So the difference in FPS is as follows:- Intel original 15.46.02.4729 build drivers provide ~60-70 FPS at Overwatch- Lenovo repackaged drivers (currently installed from Lenovo Vantage) 22.20.16.4836 show around 20-30 FPS. Has anyone run up to the same problem? Any solution (exccept running olded drivers)? I would really appreceate if Lenovo would check up this issue.

Hi guys. I bought a Lenovo Yoga 300 10 months ago and it was working great until about a month ago. It now takes around 20 minutes to boot (either from standby or off), it's so SLOW! Once it's on it also takes around 10 minutes to open any Office application or to use anything on the Windows menu. Once applications are open they run absolutely fine. I also don't have any problems at all using Chrome. I switched from AVG to Avast around 2 months ago and wonder if this might have something to do with it? Any help would be appreciated, happy to do a factory reset or something similar as I don't have any files on the computer, all stored on a external drive.

Hello all, I am looking for some help.  I just bought each of my kids a Lenovo Yoga 710 11 inch model.  We just got them turned on and connected to the Internet via our Wifi and they each downloaded Roblox.  When they go to play Roblox the games will not load or they take a good 5 minutes to load or the game will just leave the screen as it is trying to load?  Is this a common problem?  Is this not a good notebook for having a couple of games on?  I only wanted a notebook for them for schoolwork and gaming should I have went with something different?

hi, ive noticed my new notebook is really slow. it has 8GB memory yet struggles to peform basic tasks like browsing.  i have ran "userbenchmark" which gives a really poor score for processor and graphics.  Processor9.74% is an extremely low Desktop CPU score, this CPU can barely handle email and light web browsing.  Graphics2.22% is too low to play 3D games or use CAD packages. (Note: general computing tasks don't require 3D graphics) its running windows 10 and the processor is Intel Core M-5Y10c is there problem with my notebook or is it just a poor processor? thanks in advance

A:Yoga 3 slow processor

Well you got the Core M processor, they are slightly better than Atom CPU from Intel. Core M performs like CPU from say 5 to 6 years ago in terms of performance. It uses very little power (and puts out very little heat), which is why the Yoga 3 Pro is so thin. So if you are using it for games or cad, then you should return the laptop and get something with more performance.

The WIFI speed on my laptop is so slow.  Other devices connected to same WIFI are at 100mbps. The speedtest (speedtest.com) that i just performed gave a reading of 5.53 Mbps download speed and 0.14 upload speed.  I work from home and I'm about to lose my mind.  I can't get anything done because my internet based apps are hanging.   I read on another forum about the Yoga 920 doing this.  Some of the solutions were to download a driver for the 910.  I wasn't sure if this would solve my issue since I have the 910.  I also couldn't figure out where to go to find out which driver I have installed.  I loved my Yoga when I first bought it.  Now that I've been searching this forum for answers to my issue I'm seeing that a lot of other people are having issues with theirs.  Making me lose confidence in this product.

Hello everyone, I'm having trouble with the USB transfer speeds to a thumb drive. My Y2P is running Windows 10 64bit. Obviously the thumb drive is 3.0, the drivers for USB are the most recent. But when I transfer a single large file to the drive, the speeds start out around 30 MB/s and immediately drop, hovering around 8-10 MB/s. Now, with the thumb drive connected, under Settings > Devices > Connected Devices, I see the drive with the message underneath, that "This device can perform faster" etc. So I am wondering why it wouldnt recognize the USB 3.0 device, when all the drivers are installed. Any ideas? To no avail I also tried to disable the selective USB power throttling under the advanced power plan options. Thanks

My yoga 2 pro always took around 25 seconds to boot up. In the first 15 seconds the power led is on but the screen is black. When I press the novo button it also takes 15 seconds for the menu to appear. This has been happening since I bought it, but now I saw in a review the PC turning on in 8 seconds, so I'm pretty sure this is not normal. Has this happened  to anyone else?

A:Yoga 2 Pro Slow Boot

For me a boot-up takes about 8 seconds (i7/8GB memory/256 GB SSD). 25 seconds is indeed long. How are you shutting it down, using the standard menu method? it sounds like one of 2 things: 1) A fast shutdown/boot isn't automatically happening when you select shutdown option (this is supposed to be automaticly enabled). Take a look for a hiberfil.sys file in the C:\ folder. It should be there and fairly large with a recent timestamp. This file holds your kernel state when you shut down to accelerate boot-up. 2) Have you installed any system monitoring software like the intel or hwinfo? I had done this it it greatly increased the boot up time probably due to a driver timing out. If so, uninstall and see if that helps. Just timed my Y2P. From a cold start 8.7 seconds to start screen, from a hybrid shutdown/start, 6 seconds to start screen. So 25 seconds is long for either case. Useful explanation for how fastboot works.http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/how-windows-8-hybrid-shutdown-fast-boot-feature-...

Hi I've a Lenovo Yoga 500 notebook and it was too slow. when I've displayed the performance, I've found that some times the Disk reached 100%. on the other hand, the drive C has about 50Ggyte free space. I think that the SSD (8GByte) was fully filled not the HDD disk drive. Can you help me to solve my problem and make my PC faster? Best Regards

I've been experiencing very slow performance on my Yoga 3 11 for several months now.  I finally traced the problem via a 3rd party forum at ifixit.com (https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/259489/processor+speed+is+extremely+slow).  It seems that since a Windows or BIOS update my system has been throttled due to BD PROCHOT being set.  This slows down the processor to less than 0.5 GHz at all times.  Using the free utility ThrottleStop I was able to change this setting back to unthrottled.  My system now runs 2 - 3x faster at 1.0 to 1.5 GHz and with no overheating penalty.  Performance is back to what it was months ago.  I think Lenovo should have sent out a patch to correct this problem; they still should.  We should not have to run an outside utility to correct an incompatibility between the current BIOS and Windows 10 versions.  Thank you.

The Yoga 3 Pro seems to run fairly well, but when I ran the test at userbenchmark.com the comment was "17.6% is an extremely low CPU score. It's a wonder that this system was able to run the User benchmark software." I ran the Lenovo Optimizer and it, too, said the processor was running too slow. It offered 2 suggestions to speed it up, but after trying to implement the suggestions a number of times and getting an error message that said it couldn't fix the problem andI should try again on another day, I gave up. The two suggested fixes didn't seem to have anything to do with processor speed, only updating some software. Anyone have a similar problem or know what is going on?

Use high performance plan and then rerun your benchmarks. Also try Winrar Benchmark and see if CPU usage goes to max CPU and Turbo frequency. With the Intel 4300U on my Tablet, I get 3216 KB/s. You should be able to get at least 2500 KB/s if it's running at full speed. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7475/15521960304_7c4808883d_o_d.png

I have it connected to two external monitors via USB-C and DELL WD15 dock. Laptop screen is ON as well, so I have all 3 screens in extended mode. The problem is it runs very slow, websites open slowly and simple youtube video takes up to 50% of CPU... I have enabled "Show kernel times" and looks like most of CPU time is taken by kernel on all 4 logical cores. The laptop is running Windows 10 Pro with 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSD, i5-7300U CPU. How do I debug this?
