Q: MS Access Date Input Masks

I am trying to make an input mask for a MS access Database that will display the "MM/DD/YYY" characters in the field when I click on the field. Is there also a way of having the cursor start on the first character so the user can just start typing in the date information without having to move to the first character?

As a long-ago and long-time user of dBase, I am trying to update by learning Microsoft Access via an online course while actually doing the examples and such in OpenOffice Base (sounds complicated and I guess it is). In most areas I can work out equivalent steps, but I have run aground on entering input masks in OpenOffice to match the Access masks. Take for example, masking phone numbers in the field properties of an input field so they will automatically be entered in the format (###) ###-#### by typing in the numbers only. I can do this easily enough in dBase and I can see how Access will do the same thing if you enter in the field properties for creating a record field, the mask "(999) 999-9999" which I guess is then actually rendered by Access as '\(999") "999\-999'. I have a similar problem in entering Boolean properties of the field -- either requiring specific text strings, or setting limits on numerical entries. The OpenOffice help documents do not cover this at all well. Is there an OpenOffice expert on hand that can point me to an answer.

Hello, I use online accounting software (KashFlow) and part of entering invoices involves clicking into a date input field.  It is one of those where a little calendar shows when you click into the field.  You can also manually type a date into this field too. However. On my brand new Yoga 920 using Chrome and Firefox the date input fields are greyed out and a red 'no access' icon shows when you hover over them.  But you can still click it and the calendar pops up as normal.  The only difference is you can NOT type into them anymore. When the source for the page is viewed it looks like the fields have been designated 'readonly'. There is no such problem on any other computer I own, even when using Chrome or Firefox.  The date fields work perfectly well on these other computers - even on a Sony Xperia tablet I own. The only browser that works properly on my Yoga is Edge.  The date fields work as they should.  It's just Chrome (my main browser) and Firefox where they don't work. This seems like a Lenovo-based problem.  A little Google has revealed a couple of similar problems with other Lenovo users. Does anyone have any clue on how to fix this?  This is utterly bizarre behaviour and it's preventing me from working properly. I have attached a photo showing the problem when using Chrome.  These fields should never be greyed out. Thanks,Matt

I am using the "microsoft access date/ time picker" control to pick dates. These dates like termination date of a contract will end up in the database. The problem I have is that when I do this,

I end up with this in my database:

How can I extract only the date part from "1/6/2003 5:48:43 PM" so that only

goes into the database

I have a Date/Time field that I need converted to just a Time field.

It comes back with 2/11/12 0:00:00

I need just the 2/11/12

I thought about changing it to a text field but I think there will be an issue with the month because it does not bring back a 0 in from the months with only 1 digit.

This table that I am creating is being sent to a txt file and that is where I see the issue. It looks good in Access, but not the txt file.

Any suggestions?

Hi there

I know how to do add a criteria to a Query. For example in the QBE pane in design view in the criteria row I enter this statement: Between [Start Date] And [End Date]. When I open up the form that is bound to the query, a message box pops up and I enter the required dates and I get the required data that is between the dates that I specify. However, I'm now finding out that this method is now becoming a nuisance.

Is there a way that I can have 2 unbound controls - one for the start date and the other for the end date in a criteria form. This way I input the dates I want for a particular customer and the form with the required data shows up. For example, I have already developed a criteria form for customers. I have an unbound combo box control that has customer names and when I click on a particular customer name, all the data for that customer is displayed in a form. In the row source of the unbound combo box control there is a SELECT .... FROM ... statement. I also have a button next to the unbound combo box control that opens up the form for that particular customer. Now I want to add two more Unbound controls in the criteria form, one for Start Date and another for End Date.

This way I can select a customer from the customer combo Box, select the start start date from the start date combo box and the end date from the second combo box control and get the desired data for that particular customer between the specified dates. I have attempted to do this bu... Read more

Hi,

For many years now my home network has consisted of 5 pcs/laptops all running Windows XP SP2. I've never had any problems with file sharing in my network workgroup before.

However, recently I noticed that all computers havent been able to find each other on the network. After looking into it I noticed that it seems like my network has been "split up" into 2 groups.

PC1 and Laptop1 can find each other in My Network Places (255.255.255.0)

and

PC2, PC3, and Laptop2 can find each other in My Network Places (255.255.254.0)

In attempt to find a difference in connection settings I noticed that some of the computers have automatically been assigned different subnet masks (as shown above).

I tried doing some research on how to possibly change the automatically assigned subnet mask, assigned by the DNS. However, the only solutions I found were the settings that can be changed for the TCP/IP protocol for a network connection. However, I do not wish to change these settings as I want to keep the settings as "Obtain an IP address automatically".

Why are the computers (on the same modem, and same workgroup) retrieving different subnet masks?

Is it possible to JUST change the subnet mask, and not the other IP acquiring settings.

I'm pretty sure I have some sort of virus. My computer has been running super slow, and when I open the task manager it is filled with entries from firefox.exe or chrome.exe, even when they are not open and running (some taking up to 300,000 K). 
 
I have run virus scans via AVG and superanti-spyware, but they are not able to find anything. 
 
I'm not sure what information is needed here. 
 
Can someone please help me?

I have a PDC, BDC and SQL server on subnet of 255.255.255.0. I recently acquired a leased line router and the subnet for it is 255.255.255.224. Everything is fine except when I assign the IPs for the new router to clients and the 255.255.255.224 subnet. I get an error when I try to view the tables in the SQL server using ODBC, I get:

Greetings

I will need a little more information on this one, to get a better picture of what is happening.

You started out, and had an internal network with what IP range (eg 192.168.10.1 -> 192.168.10.255)?

You then got a leased line (I am assuming to the internet, or is it just to a remote site?), which came with a new IP address, and need for a new Subnet mask. Is the new IP address a valid Internet address, or is it another internal address going off to a remote site?

Now, The new ip address range that came with the router, you do know that it can only have 30 IP addresses assigned to it.

Can you ping your SQL server? Is it actually there?

Does anyone remember the command/code to let you input the "criteria" for a query in Access?

Like I want to be able to input the date-range so I don't have to either edit the query each time, or write different queries for each range. I used to do this (and know how) but I'm drawing a blank today (it was one input for each end of the range, and I had modified the field to show date values as "200800205" rather than "2008-02-05" kind of thing).

I've got another field with values between 1 and 99 that I need to specifically select for, which should work the same way.

I just don't remember how to write the code?

I am using MS Access 2002. I have no experience at all of Access, but am quite good with Excel.

I have been asked to create a database that alot of people in our company will be using. The best thing would therefore be if they could access an input form and a search form, but nothing else. The database looks like it is going to be quite complicated so i'm trying to understand the basics and take it from there.

As there will be lots of separate tables getting data added to them at the same time, i was unsure if the best way would be to use subforms or unbound controls. I had a look at master and child fields but i'm floundering around in the dark. I have most of the tables made, not too sure about queries and the forms are just giving me an ulcer. I have a rough idea of how i would like the finished form to look from creating a userform in Excel, but i can't even do the basics in Access.

I have attached a dummy database and would appreciate any comments on what the best way to populate all the tables at once would be. It will have the Department, Surveyor and Salary. How would i update the relevent tables at the same time as some parts are dependent on each other. And would it be better to do a large project unbound or using userforms (fiddly things to move i've found)

All comments and advice are most welcome.

Hi All.

I am flying off to Florida tomorrow morning, but wanted to leave some of you Access guru's access to a database I worked on, and now have to figure out how to add something.

What I am trying to do is create an interactive Product Listing.

From Switchboard, access"Enter/ View Orders by Customer"

and on the screen that pops up, at the bottom there are several buttons. One is for Product Order. First thing I would like to get rid of, or have automatically found, is the Shipping fields that pop up wanting to be filled. You can leave them blank.

Now we have a Report that lists the Client information, and then a Product listing. What we would like to do is to make this into a Form, that can be interactive with the rest of the database. Basically, we would like to enter the order information through this Form, and have it capable of filling in the appropriate tables, etc. Orders would be placed within the Color columns, and tallied to the left of the Product Name. That total would then carry over into the Orders by customer, etc.

Any assistance by y'all is not expected, but would be most appreciated. This is not my job, and I haven't the necessary knowledge, or time to sort this out. I'm positive I could tack something together at some point, but I'm hoping one of y'all will be a little bored, and feeling extra helpful.

A few problems, most of which shouldn't be too much trouble to you, I hope.

I've got the input mask for a field : >LL0\ 0LL;0;" " .. Ok so that's fine when actually entering data in the database as in actually physically in the table itself, but what I'm struggling with is that with the form I have created (and user HAS to fill this field in from the form) it won't give me the validation text, all the other input fields in the form work - just this one doesn't. I can enter whatever the hell I like and it will accept it and store it to the field in the table. So I'm wondering how you get the form to recognise the input mask and display an error ?

The other problem is so simple I don't really believe I'm asking it, for a field that should allow no integers of any type, it would be all char's right ? Well I originally thought you would do ...

Between "A" and "Z" ... turns out it's not that simple (I wish), anyone got the simple answer on how to make an input field exclusively char's only. (Form again)

I'd like to create an input form similar to the form called "TestForm" in this database. I think a single line, where the user selects a manager from the MgrName drop down above, and fills in CfDate, CfValue, CfTypeId, and CfNote below. The input form should know the MgrId because its linked in from the dropdown.

I'm learning as I go here, so I'm really looking to understand what I'm trying to do. And if I'm going about this all wrong, please let me know. I think I need to create some sort of append query, and create a form similar to the one I created called TestForm. Is that right, or am I misunderstanding conceptually what I am trying to do here?

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Note the Master Child Link between the 2 forms is the Manager ID.
I have also removed the existing key fields from the Subform's table as it would make partial data entry impossible and added an Autonumber key field instead.

I have build a table in Access 2000 with several fields including "Part Number" and "Serial Number." I am trying to input these numbers using a bar code scanner. Once the numbers are entered, how can I automatically go to the next field? Both values vary in length and format. There is no standard format for either number. Here are some examples:

Have a very strange problem with an Access 2000 input form. The form has a name-find combo box on it that allows users to enter at least part of a name and after hitting enter, the record for that person is displayed. BUT. . . we just discovered that if you enter a name with an apostrophe, like "O'Reilly", it bombs. Get error message that asks if you want to debug. You say yes, and the module reads like this:

The line starting with rs.FindFirst is highlighted when the debug module opens. When originally written, that line did NOT have the & "'" after it. That happens after you try to search on any name with an apostrophe.

Anybody know what the H*## is going on here?

I am working on a project in Access and would like to know how to query the user for data input. Right now I am using a query with a [] criterion (e.g. [Enter the date of interest]) as data for the report but then I must have a different query / report combiniation for each situation (Example: "Show the results for all dates" compared to "Enter the date of interest"). This means I have two reports to maintain and keep identical, etc. I notice the report has a filter parameter but am unsure how this could change values in the same report.

Is it possible to do this in VBA where the same report is brought up either with or without a limiting "where" clause in the VBA command? It seems that I can put a message for the user to the screen with a msgbox but then how do I capture the response? I have looked for an analogous situation in the Northwind database but maybe I've missed it.

I'm going from memory here, but I have a question: is this query populating a report or form?

If you're going straight to a report, in the On_Load, you could prompt the user with a message box, saving the value they enter as a string variable

strMyVariable = Msgbox("Enter date, use this format mm/dd/yy", etc.)

then use an if then else to determine what to return:

if strMyVariable = "" then
strMyQuery = "Select * from myTable where Date = " & strMyVariable
doCmd.openreport etc, etc, strMyQuery
else
strMyQuery = "Select * from myTable"
doCmd.openreport etc., strMyQuery
end if

I can't remember the exact position where you need to place your strMyQuery, but this should get you started.

Hey, can someone pls use the input mask feature in Access for the phone number and tell me what the code is? My mask feature doesnt seem to be working so I will have to type it in manually...ghar! The proper format should look like this: (555)555-5555

For instance, to make things all caps you can manually type ">LL" in the input mask field and everything entered in that field will be uppercase. The ">LL" is the part I need for the phone number...

I have created a simple Access database for home inventory. What I want to do is have an input form, and when you're entering information on an item, there will be some kind of control to add a picture of the item (basically where you can click an icon, then you will have a dialog box open to your hard drive and you can drill down to an image and have it added to the database as a field). This will then tie the picture of the item to the proper information. I hope I didn't confuse anyone, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I strongly advise AGAINST storing pictures in your DB. You will end up with it all bloated--electronic DB size too big too quickly. However, to do so, you need a field in the table with type OLE object.

On your form, you can right-click it and hit Insert-Picture.

I want to automatically list the date everytime I open up a particular access record. I know how to do "Now()" and this works fine for long dates but i want to list

It isn't entirely clear what you are trying to achieve. What I don't know is what field(s) currently exist in your table/form for date...

For the sake of argument, let's say you have a field that contains the date the call took place.

You can have that field on a report or form as many times as you want (make sure only one of them is editable) and each one can display the data differently: one for input is straightforward Short Date, the next one, in the field's properties>format, you could put "mm yyyy" (without the quotes) and make this one non-editable, and it would give you the Jan 2004 view.

In a report, though, you can control how you view records by "grouping and sorting".

Am trying to autocalculate a field in a form.

The field is a sum of a frequency (in months) plus a date.

(ie: I want a date for the next car service due: first field = service due every xx months + second field= last service date).

How do I add a figure in months to a date?

I have had some results by entering a short integer in the first field but it adds the number to the date in days only. I need to have the number added to the months and not the days.

What i would like to do is have a query setup so i can just put in a date and bring everything new plus that date. So if i inputed 10-1-2006,it would show me everything newer then that date plus 10-1. I have tried a few different thing but can seem to get it to work. Can someone please help me.

In the query where the criteria is for your date field you could type in >[Enter Start Date]
This will display all the records after that date.

I am having trouble getting a query to work! I have dates stored which are when a service was last completed eg. DateServiced = 10/07/02. Services have to be completed yearly. I need to enable the user to enter a start date and an end date as to when services are due to be completed again. eg 01/07/03 and 31/07/03 for services due in July. This needs to pull up all records where the DateServiced was in July 2002. I have tried to have an expression in the query which calculates the due date (as below) and then query on the value of this field. It brings up incorrect records. Hope this makes sense!!! I am confused!!!! Please help!!!

Here is the SQL:

SELECT tblHousing.strUPRN, tblHousing.dtmDateServiced, [dtmDateServiced]+365 AS DueDate
FROM tblHousing
WHERE ((([dtmDateServiced]+365) Between [Enter start date] And [Enter end date])) OR ((([dtmDateServiced]+365) Is Null));
UPRN is the primary key and is a reference code.

Hi.. as you can guess I am not that good with access. I have done a data base and what I want to do is search by a time period.
example. I have 5 pieces of data 3 in jan two in feb I want to show only those pieces of data in Jan .. How do I do it. One of the variables in the data base is disptached date which is a pre set date.
Can i set up a data critera where it will ask for a start and end date for the search and show only those pieces of information.

Also. while I am on. another search I am in need for is. I have created a order book and what I would really like is for to print out a report that will show by date ( as above) but only showing orders acepted and not just quoted for or visa versa. when I do a quote there is a box for their order number and a box for quote date is there a way of making access check to see if there is a varible in that the order No. box and if their is to print it out IF its in the date range as well.??

Hello, I have a database used for projects. Im creating a query that has dates that the project where open and closed and when they should be done. What i would like is have the query ask for a date range. For example, when i run this query i would like to beable to put in 1/1/2007 to 1/30/2007 and have it show me just those records. Now the thing that is stumping me, is in the table the open_Date field has the date and the time, so is shows up 1/1/2007 10:31:21. How could i get the query to do this, I have tried a few thing but my query comes up empty. Thanks for any help

Copy the text the in the code box to notepad. Save it as fixreg.reg to your desktop.
Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files"
Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

On Access I have a little connundrum that will probably be simple enough to those in the know.

In one of my queries I am trying to calculate future weeks that a particular person will be staying at our tuition centre. No need to worry about how I got to these values but the columns that I have now are:

For future week : week #
For future week : day name (underpinned by a number)

Thus for the day Friday 20th February 2009, I would have:

Week # = 8 (using datepart function)
Day name = Friday (or numeral = 6).

What can I write in a cell (or if need be in VBA) to combine these two known figures, that will result in the format (20/2/2009)

I have an Access 97 database on the network, in which about 10 users share. There is this one form that updates returned goods, for some reason I have one computer that adds the time and date to a date field. I want to get rid of the time, and leave short date. I'm trying to run a simple query in access using VBA to construct the SQL. My problem is that on a BETWEEN...AND part i'm using a date which is in dd/mm/yyyy. As will be obvious to some this causes problems with VBA using US date format. So I thought the following code would work, it doesn't

You can get an error 13 type mismatch by using DAO when your Access is set to use ADO.
But I would run the query using the original format and then display it in the format you prefer in a report or form or whatever.

Hello Everyone!

I have a field that has Days (Ex. Monday, Tuesday etc...)

Is there a way to turn this Days into a nearest date coming up. So for example if i have Wednesday on the field as a value and today is tuesday... I want the date for tomorrow displayed.

I have been doing research but I cant find anything. I have found the opposite but it doesnt do me any good. Thank you very much.

Hya folks,

I need to enter a date in a table in access, however instead of using a normal input mask of DD/MM/YY I'd like to use the format DD.MM.YY as this is in line with the date format of all our bespoke software.

I've tried editing the input mask list to no avail. I'd like to keep the field as a date/time field as we need to do queries using it.

Any ideas gratefully recieved .

I made a table in Microsoft Access 2000, and now I am writing a form. I am trying to create a date that will not change with the system. I would only like to keep the date when the record was generated. I am using ?=Date$()? under Control Source. Every time I bring the data up, the date will change to the system date, not the date it was generated. Can someone help me with this problem?

As a 'quick and dirty' solution you could try this:

Delete =Date$() from Control source and enter it instead in 'Default Value', this should enter the current date in the control whenever a new record is created but will not change it thereafter
