I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Something changed on my desktop after the last Windows update. Since getting it almost 1.5 years ago, my "account picture" has never displayed when the computer booted or recovered from sleep mode. That was great, as far as I was concerned. It just adds a few seconds to the bootup and is of no use, since I'm the only one who uses the computer and there is no password to use it.

Yesterday, it started appearing at both cold boots, reboots and sleep recovery.
I cannot find any setting via the Control Panel to disable it. Is there a way to do that? If not, why has it not appeared for 1.5 years, but now does?

Hi, I've got Windows XP 5.1 (Build 2600) Service pack 3
AMD Athlon 1804 MHz
Norton 360 2007
Viewpoint 3,2,2,2,26
Windows Media Player
Real9 Codec, 10.0.1.63
Real Player 6

When I open up a window with my vacation pictures in it (maybe 800 to 1000) and click on a picture, after a few seconds the screen goes blank and then opens up again with picture #1 at the start. If I'm working on picture #800, I have to go and find picture 800 again. It's very frustrating. Keeps happening every 10 seconds or so.
I put Carbonite on suspend and that seemed to help for a while but now it's doing it again even with Carbonite suspended.
Driving me crazy. If I transfer my pictures to my laptop it's fine but not convenient to work on my lap top.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi Bob,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

Your issue can be related to an infection on your system, as well as a lack of resources.

You mention that you are using Norton 360, 2007 version. As long as your subscription is active, I would highly encourage you to get the free update to Norton 360 version 2.

You can upgrade to version 2 by visiting the Norton Update Center. Make sure you use IE 5.5 or higher when accessing the site.

After the update is complete, launch Norton 360 version 2, and then manually run LiveUpdate. When that has completed, run a "Comprehensive Scan" ... Read more

As I cycle the viewer, at the end of the pictures I have placed in the viewer and want to view, more pictures of all kinds appear. Each click to cycle the viewer brings a new picture. When I right click these JEPEg images and check the properties they are small files supposedly in the my documents file.(A check for them there does not show them)
These have been downloaded w/o my knowledge over several months and I only encountered them this month.
Even when I delete the files they seem to reappear later. Its as if someone has placed an executable file virus in outlook express that replicates JPEG images when the viewer is used.
Is anyone familar with this problem?

Hi, I am using an HP windows 10 desktop computer, HP deskjet printer, and Serif craft artist software
I have been successfully using these together for over a year, and have previously created new forms in the control panel, so I can print on different size card and paper.
Today, when I went to print my design, it was letting me select the correct paper size as normal, but then would not apply it.
I went to the control panel to check the sizes, and created a new form, deleting the old one - but now it does not come up as an option to print this size in the forms
The size is still visible when I look on the printer settings within the control panel though - so why is it not visible to select when I try to print?
I have tried re-starting my computer and re-launching the software a couple of times now, but nothing changes.
Please can anyone help? Many thanks, in advance :)

I am having trouble enabling the screensaver on my Vista laptop.

I have enabled a screensaver to start after a period on 20 minutes inactivity. What actually happens is that after a while (not sure how long possibly 10-15 minutes) the screen just goes blank and effectively 'logs off'

I then have to hit the power button and then click on my user account icon to resume work, which is incredibly irritating.

On my previous PC after a set period of time the screensaver appeared, all I then had to do as move the mouse to resume work. How can I replicate this on my laptop?

I have delved into the Power Options menu and found that my system is set up under Balanced Plan and that when I clicked Change Plan settings I noticed that the display is set to turn off after 15 mins and put the computer to sleep after 30 mins.

Should these be changed to enable the screensaver function to work because at the moment it seems that I am having to restart the computer every time I am away for a while?

A:Solved: No Screensaver appearing

Yes, as the screen is powering off before the screen saver kicks in.

Hello everyone,

I have never had any dealings with malware in the past and therefore do not no much about them. I consider myself a cautious computer (in terms of virus risks) user and therefore will not access any files which may cause my computer harm.

Recently, I have been recieving warning fron Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 about random .exe files which wish to run. I have googled the ones which have appeared within a minute of each other moments before posting this and the .exe's do not belong to anythign that I have knowingly done on my PC.

The .exe's that have appeared via kaspersky in the past minute or so...

UNAME.exe
SED.exe
TAIL.exe
BASH.exe
DATE.exe

All of these are trusted byt he process library, however, i suspect malware may be discused within them as I have never used them before. The fact that they are randomly appearing seems strange and untrustworthy.

I am aware that Kaspersky is very over-cautios with many things, but this seems rediculous and therefore I am commenting here.
I would be very grateful if you could identify the cause of these .exe's

Hello to anyone has knowledge of, or has a good PC fault-finding background
on how to fix this problem:

Somehow I have lost my advanced volume controls in Windows XP - Professional SP1, 2002).
The controls I am talking about have the following fields of 'Volume Control', 'Wave', 'SW Synth', 'CD Player', 'Line In', under a title bar of 'Volume Controls'.
If the volume controls are selected from the quick launch icon in the system tray to the right of the task bar - by right clicking and selecting "Open Volume Control'; or from Control panel, the volume control application will appear in the taskbar, and from there I can right-click and elect to move, minimise, restore and maximise the volume controls, but regardless of my actions the application does not appear on the desktop.

I have ensured the volume drivers are ok and the speakers are appropriate for the system (this is a Toshiba Tecra Notebook). The only cause I can think of is that I have been using dual screens, but I have tested to make sure the application is not trying to appear on the second screen. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled the SoundMAX driverusing the Toshiba startup disks, and verified this by losing and gaining sound, but this does not help the volume controls problem.

I have also tried to run the application from Windows, Sys32,sndvol32.exe but get the same result.

Any hints?

Hi,

I have a major issue with my computer. I ran Hijack this several times and removed the files I could identify as malicious however Im sure there's more to it. I run VirusScan On-access and every day I get a pop-up message which notifies me that there were 5-10 attemps to install trojans etc. Most get deleted, some cannot be cleaned.

My browser is hijacked as well and I have a searchbar in my task bar, which I have removed by using add/remove, but it keeps appearing and I didn't install it in the first place.

The site that keeps appearing is findthewebsiteyouneed.com and I get a pop up that's titled Target Saver.

I run Windows XP Pro SP2 on an IBM T42p.

Can anyone please help me get rid of this mess?

Thank you,

P.S. Sorry the log file is extremely longg, IBM TP tools and my university's network security take their toll on the computer's performance.

at first i thought it might be some virus/malware infection that's causing this problem; so i reformatted my com(its been sometime since i did a reformat too). when i plugged in my thumbdrive which contain some movie files the system came up with the same ****** message.

what is the root that's causing this problem?

help would be very much appreciated.

Hi all,

I have been around XP for a long time and well this one has me baffled. Currently when I download a file, if it be to the desktop or to the download folder or even anywhere else the file will not show up in that folder if the folder is already open. I hit F5 to refresh the folder/desktop and the files appears. I am assuming a windows folder auto refresh feature has been turned off by accident. My question, is there a way to set this so it will show while downloading or even after downloading?

Thank you in advance,
Nis

Hi guys!:
I am new on this and yesterday i was navigating. I have google set as my home page in the Internet Explorer. When searching for some info, the explorer automatically redirect the screen to a page called wwww.searcharoundthecorner.com. I tried to go back, an did not worked out. Pressed the Home Buttom and it redirect me again to that page. Entered several addresses at top and it kept on directing me to that page.
I put that page into the restricted site list, and did not worked out. Checked the home page, and google was still my homepage, but the explorer wonīt direct to any other site that the one mentioned.
Cleared the history...wonīt work. Deleted cookies...wonīt work. Deleted files (offline too)...wonīt work. Scanned the system with the last Update of Nortonīs symantec and it showed no viruses.
I have a brand new Dell 8400 with windows XP home edition, so the Internet Explorer came with it.
PLEASE HEEEEEEEELLLLPPPPPP
Thanks in advance guys!!! =)

Hello all-

I've been to a virus/hijackthis subforum already and TheBruce1 has been so kind as to walk me through de-bugging my computer. It's doing a million times better now and I have lots of protections now for my computer.

Unfortunately, one problem persisted and he suggested I come here for a bit more help.

When I hit ctrl+alt+delete, my task manager does not pop up. I can, however, go to the start -> 'run' function and run it from that. But even then, when it pops up it is only a list of my processes: the 'toolbar' area at the top is simply missing. There is no option to click to another tab with the open applications or users, performance, etc. There is no big red x to close it.

TheBruce1 gave me a registry fix that unfortunately did not solve the problem (but solely as a guess I imagine that would be the solution to a viral type problem?).

Anyone have any idea what might be causing this or how to fix it?

Thanks much for any help.

-Spooky

Hi SpookyP,

Glad to hear the Security Team were able to clean up your system.

Do you have your Windows XP CD?
I want you to try a command that will check your system for any missing or corrupt files first, before trying to tweak the registry.

over the past few day all of a sudden we are constantly getting system alert messages from ''MESSAGE SERVICE'' popping up every few minutes. They say various things like currupt registry of 55 critical system errors and all advise to go to varios websites to install and run a programme to fix this (which we have not done)

I have run a virus checker and spy ware checker and they are coming back clear so I don't know how to stop these messages appearing apart from re installing the whole system which I do not really want to do

PLEASE HELP BEFORE I THROW THE LAPTOP OUT THE WINDOW!

Not sure if I'm posting in the correct forum--b/c I don't know what's happening here...

I rarely look in the Recycle Bin. Therefore, I can't say how long this has been happening. Today I noticed several files in the Recycle Bin that I did not manually delete. Many of them are iTunes (not too concerned about this, probably part of the whole iTunes thing--I have an iPhone as well--the original files are still in iTunes as well). But, the main mystery is that there are several files from a folder in My Documents that I have not even opened for a very long time (maybe even years). It seems that the original files also remain in that folder--

Now, I know I can Restore, if I'm worried. But, I need to know what is happening so that I don't always feel like I need to check out the Recycle Bin.

I do use the SyncToy add-on.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Barbara

I need some help today if you tech guys can help me out. During a routine run of AVG it caught the iamfamous.dll virus. I chose it to delete the virus and it did show removed from the Firefox components folder.

But when I reboot my computer again, the file comes back up. Is there a way to permanently delete this virus from my computer? Thanks for any help you can give me.

A:[SOLVED] Deletion of iamfamous.dll keeps appearing after reboot.

Attached is my current hijack this log report and a screen cap of the findings from AVG. I also found an autorun virus that came in on my wife's Crative Zen mp3 player that she got on Monday and I think AVG fixed that issue. It's the iamfamous.dll that keeps coming back up. Already removed it via AVG x3 and it pops back up.

I also did see a "resycled" hidden folder in my C drive that keeps coming back even when I delete it. Could this be a part of the virus also?

Hi , I recently had to perform a system recovery after an evil virus ravaged all my executable files. All is ok now apart from one thing.

Games , and some programs that i had previously installed are not showing up on the add/remove programs list even though they still work fine.

Im just wondering why this has happened and how will I uninstall them should I need to ?

I know how to do manual uninstalls by going into the registry but is there a way I can auto uninstall again or is this what im stuck with ? I have looked in a few game folders but dont see any uninst files.

Hi.

A file called Ravmonlog is appearing on all my computers.

Needless to say I suspect this is a virus.

I have done the usual google thing which seems to suggest that it is some sort of trojen.

On the different computers I have different antivirus software, including avg and avast.
Nonthing is picking up suspicious activity.

I have also run mcafee's stinger on one of the computers but nothing came up.

My work environement: Just so we are clear, I work with about 25 people. People have there own laptops which they connect to the network for internet and what not when needed. This is great cause we don't have hassels with licencing, everyone being a personal user. The down side is that virus threat is a major problem, and has a massive fallout potential, as these people then take their laptops home and infect their husbands computers and so on.

So need to know a little more about what Ravmon is, and how to kill it!

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks
Cara
