X240 Fn-Key not responding

Q: X240 Fn-Key not responding

Hi,I have the following problem. The 'Fn' key is not working. When I press 'Fn+Esc' to enable the FnLock, nothing happens. But when I switch the 'Fn' and 'CTRL' key in the BIOS, I can press 'Ctrl+Esc' to enable the lock (small green LED on the 'Fn' key is on). But then the 'CTRL' functionality (now on the 'Fn' key) is not working anymore. The shop where I ordered the Laptop already replaced the keyboard but this didn't help. Does anybody have the same problem and can help me? Thank you. Additional information:- I ordered the Laptop in Germany, but with an US keyboard layout (the Shop replaced the german keyboard with an english one)- I updated the BIOS when I received the Laptop (below the BIOS information): BIOS Information Vendor: LENOVO Version: GIET72WW (2.22 ) Release Date: 03/25/2014 Address: 0xE0000 Runtime Size: 128 kB ROM Size: 16384 kB Characteristics: PCI is supported PNP is supported BIOS is upgradeable BIOS shadowing is allowed Boot from CD is supported Selectable boot is supported ACPI is supported USB legacy is supported BIOS boot specification is supported Targeted content distribution is supported UEFI is supported BIOS Revision: 2.22 Firmware Revision: 1.12

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My brother got a X240 with a regular 1TB HDD, and I'm looking to help him with upgrading to an internal SSD for the OS/Apps. I first thought it just used a regular mSATA, but it apparently uses a new style called M.2.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find any info on what's supported, how large can they be, etc...

My local computer store has this for M.2 in 512gb size, would this fit in the X240?

A:X240 M.2 SSD

Howdy HiVolt,

I don't think that one will fit.  There are several different lengths of m.2 SSDs and the one in the X240 is 42mm.  The one you linked is longer than that.

Up until recently the highest capacity 42mm part was 128GB IIRC, but I think someone has come out with a 256GB 42mm unit.  [edit] I'm not able to verify that just now.  [more edit] Yes I am.  See post below.

Here's their compatibility list.  Please note I have no personal experience with this company.

Hope you can help! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 4GB, 64bit, Intel i5, NVIDIA, Kaspersky Internet Security 15.0.2.
I primarily use IE11, but switch to Mozilla Firefox 43.0.2 when IE stops responding. My primary email is AOL which I access via web, not software. Computer often slow and hangs.

The main issue is IE11 "stops responding" several times a day. I've run the latest version of Malwarebytes (subscription), Glary Utilities Pro, Kaspersky IS, CCleaner, and Disk Cleanup. I delete browing history daily. No virus or malware shows up after scans. Recently ran a full scan on Kaspersky overnight+ and still, no viruses detected. I'm not sure what the issue is and would gladly go back to IE9 or 10 if IE11 is the issue, but I need to be sure.

Whatever guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I recently purchased a refurbished x240 - I am having 2 issues, which I would welcome help with: 1. the areas with buttons on the top and bottom of the track pad also move the cursor - this often causes an inaccuracy, with the cursor moving slightly before or after pressing one of these buttons - is there anything which can do done about this, or is it a design fault? 2. my computer arrived with no internal battery, just a 6-cell external battery - the seller claims that the internal battery only functions if the external battery is a 3-cell, and that there is therefore no point in me purchasing an internal battery - can this be verified? Thanks for your help!

I'm looking for a repository for old wireless drivers for the X240. We need to run some tests with old drivers vs. new but I can't find them to download.Thanks.

A:Old drivers for X240

Hello and welcome,

I don't have a direct answer but there may be a way to finesse this.

Just did some poking around in the Win 7 wifi drivers.  Using the 64-bit Win 7 Intel driver,  I copied the link to the latest and replaced the "version" part of the link with an older version extracted from the readme.

I was able to download nz0wh0w 2016/05/10 by modifying the link to the latest version.

Does that or similar get you what you need?

Hello, In short, fn key does not work in lenovo x240 with latest bios update (2.35). I can swap fn and ctrl keys, and then function keys works via the ctrl key, but the fn key does not work as ctrl. I think this problem is OS independent (tried w10, w7, ubuntu). I have tried installing older bios for this model from the following page:https://support.lenovo.com/es/en/olddownloads/ds035950 But I can only install a few of the newest ones, as the older ones report that they are not compatibles with my system (though the readme says w7-w10 compatibility). No luck with any of the ones I could install. I also tried the hotkey features integration from here, no luck either:http://support.lenovo.com/es/en/downloads/ds029026  This question has been answered a gazillion times, but ill do it one more time as there is no solution posted anywhere. However now it won?t turn on at all, except the lights over the F1 key, F4 key, and Fn are on. It wasn?t plugged in, but this has never happened before. I?ve also taken out the battery in a myriad of different methods people have suggested online but there?s been no mention of the lights still on.  If if I could get some help, that?d be great. Hey all,

I have two problems with two employees. They both are connecting by vpn with the ATT Global network client from their homes. These Both employees are using outlook 2000. They are both behind personal routers. They can both browse the Internet and intranet web pages with no problems.

One of the employees can connect with no problem but after ten minutes only her outlook stops responding.

The other, her exchange server will no respond. She is able to ping it successfully. Created several new profiles have no effect or even simply trying a check name.

Any help on these two problems?

A:Outlook problems: exchange server not responding and not responding after 10 minutes

1) Are they on company or personal machines? If personal could this be a personal firewall issue?

2) Are they connecting wirelessly? Have they try connecting wired and see if it makes a difference.

3) I haven't used Outlook 2K in a long time, but I remember there being a setting about how to behave when using a slow connection. Something like tools, send receive, send receive settings. I think one of the options was to basically do nothing. You might poke around in those settings and see what you find.

Hi,I bought a Thinkpad X240 a few months ago, it was working perfectly except the know bug of the "bottom left corner" which happened a few times. But a few days ago, the screen backlight suddenly stopped working. I put it to sleep, I came back home, I opened the lid and the screen didn't light up.The screen itself works perfectly (if you put a light on it you can see what's displayed), and there's no other problem. This doesn't seem to be a software problem since I doesn't work in the BIOS, nor in Windows or Linux.. Why does the backlight would suddenly stop working ? Thanks in advance,

A:Thinkpad X240 no backlight

Same here. The backlight is out in the bios as well so I believe mine is a hardware problem. For other thinkpads, I find people saying this is a surface mount fuse on the motherboard and can be "fixed" by bridging the fuse with solder. But I can't find a fuse near the display port that is bad. The most likely fuse I find is F2 on the backside of the board near the display port, but it doesn't measure as an option circuit so I don't think that one is bad. I will probably buy another broken laptop and swap parts.

Anyone a suggestion? I have a clean install of Windows 10, browse with Edge, and fairly conservative power settings that I always use on my laptops. Hi My X240 needs 17s until the first message appears on the screen.Usually this takes about 2s (no matter whether Quick Boot is on or off).Everything else works fine. By searching for similar problems I found about a dozen threads covering the same topic (for other models), but no solution. The laptop has the newest BIOS (2.40). Unfortunately I can not test any downgrade, because of security reasons. I tried to force a downgrade by extracting the BIOS files and by using a generic flash tool, but I did not succeed. If someone knows how to do that, please let me know. Resetting the BIOS did not help.In the last few days I tried almost every combination of BIOS settings, but no success. I should mention, that the Intel AMT has been configured to be permanently off. I should also mention, that for testing purposes I'm using a minimalistic setup: the naked mainboard just with the CPU cooler, a DRAM module, and a SSD is hooked onto a docking station. Any help greatly appreciated. regardsEdmund

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Try this. Go to control panel -> Keyboard. Change the repeat delay to short and repeat rate to fast.

Try in different applications like Word/Notepad and in different browsers like Mozilla/chrome and check if the space key behaves in a similar way.

Best regards,

It is safest to use sticks that have Lenovo FRU stickers on them.  Most are compatible, but some are not.  You need DDR3L (low-voltage) RAM.  1.5V sticks will not work.  Also avoid those with the name "value" in them.
