Teredo Tunneling issue

Q: Teredo Tunneling issue

Ok I have searched and found some info on this but want to be clear. I have a message saying there is a problem with "
Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface??" Now I don't have a network, only one computer in the house. From what I have been able to understand only people with networks need this item. I have been having problems getting disconnected from the internet after waking from sleep mode and others seem to have an issue with is "tunneling" thing. I have disabled it in hopes of resolving the problem. My question really is do I need this "Tunneling" thing for any other purpose? If not I will uninstall it.

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Teredo Tunneling issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The 'Teredo' tunnelling thing is the newest ip networking/internet-networking thing ( IPv6 ). You don't need it, as most of the internet is still IPv4.

When I did an ipconfig, I noticed there were some weird bits of information called "Tunnel adapter isatap" and "Tunnel Adapter Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface"

I hear that this is used for compatibility and has to do with NAT, or something. But I also hear it can have potential security risks. Should I disable this? What programs would use it for compatibility and would I lose internet capability with certain programs or games?

I also heard somewhere than you can type a CMD command to "refresh" or "reset" these. When I did that, I got the message that "an error occured while releasing" them, due to the files not being located. Not sure why?

Thanks for your help

I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64bit. I was in my device manager and under Network adapter is a yellow exclamation mark next to Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface and says, This device cannot start Code 10. I know this has something to do with IPV6 but what do I have to do to clear this up?

A:Teredo Tunneling

Teredo is used to tunnel IPV6 over an IPV4 connection. Unless you're passing IPV6 over the internet the Teredo interface isn't used.

Are you using Homegroups? That's about the only service that requires IPV6 at the moment.

Not too sure if this is the place to post this but I just noticed recently that the Teredo tunneling adapter keeps turning itself on. It never turned on before prior to this so I'm not too sure why it's activated itself now. It happened after I used a VPN but I've used it before and it never activated itself.
I keep disabling it in devices manager but as soon as I reboot the computer, it re-installs itself. It says on the events for the adapter that nettun.inf reinstalls it every time it reboots. I had to run a command prompt as administrator to (hopefully) permanently disable it.
Is this just a windows bug or has my system been compromised by something?

My understanding is it has to do with an internet connection. How do you connect to the internet? If you are on dialup there won't be a problem. Even if you are on high speed or wireless it's not a problem if it's working. You can leave it alone or you can go to Device Manager and uninstall it. The problem I am having is that it will not go on the net wirelessly.  He is not able to get on the internet wirelessly but can with an Ethernet cable.

I went on line and read to go to the Device Manager and then to Network.  Expanded it and it was suggested that I uninstall (not delete) the Teredo Tunelling Pseudo Interface.  I went into the device manager and found that the Teredo Tunneling Pseudo Interface is not working.   have done that and after restarting it no longer shows under Networking.

After restarting the Teredo is gone and the other Network adaptors appear to be working.  I am not able to get on the internet wirelessly.

I have an error code 10 with my Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter, so I don't know what to do with it.  Tried re-installing it, and nothing happened.

I want to know if the Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter is useful, and what does it do?  Does it matter if I just completely uninstall it?

I heard it has something to do with IPv4 and IPv6, but I don't know the difference between the two.

I tried LAN quake, and it works, so I don't really know how important the Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter is to my laptop.

A:What does the Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter do, and is it useful?

Teredo tunneling is a transition technology that gives full IPv6 connectivity for IPv6-capable hosts which are on the IPv4 Internet but which have no direct native connection to an IPv6 network. At the moment most home systems connected to the internet do not have native IPv6 connectivity and as more websites move to the new system teredo tunneling needs to be used so our IPv4 sytsems can have access and process IPv6 address data.
The limitations of IPv4 mean that over the next few years the world would run out of new internet addresses so hence the move to IPv6. Teredo tunneling is intended to be only a temporary measure: in the long term, all IPv6 hosts should use native IPv6 connectivity. ISP's have a lot of work to do still before this becomes reality though.
The reality is that at the moment you can get away without it. I have IPv6 disabled on my network to avoid confusion with legacy machine equipment, I've never missed it in the slightest... Not saying this won't change in the future though.

Don't worry about it - that is used with IPv6, which is not widely used, yet, and it cannot start because your computer is not running IPv6 because (most likely) your router / modem does not support IPv6.

I was given the options to restore original driver or reinstall. I have no idea what this is or what to do. I do know that my system is running very slow these days and alot of my videos will play audio in windows media player but the picture will not show up. I am lost and have no idea what to do. Please help..... Lost and confused

A:Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface???

Teredo Tunneling Psuedo-Interface is used for Homegroup and TCP/IP v6 which is part of Windows. Which is normal in Windows Vista through Windows 8.

Which format are the videos in? Windows Media Player does not support all video formats only the common ones. Windows Media Player might support the audio portion of the video because the audio side would be a different format like mp3. To find out the format of the video right click on each on then select properties then select "Details" scroll down look for "File" the name of the video format will be listed after the file name E.X. Filename.mp4

Download and install VLC Player which supports many video formats more than Windows Media Player.

The only reason to install tunneling is if you have a printer that needs it.  Tunneling affects very little else.  What is the specific problem you are having?

This is a known problem if Zone alarm is installed.  If you have it installed remove it at least to check

To turn off Teredo tunneling interface 6to4 open an elevated command prompt and type

netsh interface terredo set state disabled.

To Re-install it

Click on Start.Type Device Manager in search box and open it.Click the Action tab at the top and click add legacy hardware
then click next and next again it will then scan and find nothing click next on the screen after that.
Wait a minute and you will see a list of hardware appear, scroll down and choose network adapters then click next, then from the left column choose Microsoft then in the right hand column scroll down and choose Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adapter, then click
next and this will install it.
To check just make sure it is set to show hidden devices, right click on device manager on the right and click view then show hidden devices.
If there is no "add legacy hardware" option, you need to plug in the device that uses tunneling.

I'm sure everyone has head about it before, but I've seen as many solutions as there have been questions about it.

My TTPU seems to be malfunctioning. I'm getting a code 10 error... unable to load the driver. Trying to update it has failed, as it simply tells me I have the latest version. At the moment, it's disabled, but I have no idea what it does for me, so I'm worried about having problems leaving it that way. ...of course, since it wasn't working in the first place, maybe not.

How should I go about fixing this thing? If there is a solid, known way to fix it, can someone please post it here? One fix I tried before getting nervous was editing the registry, but the directions given didn't actually lead to where they were supposed to lead, and so I never changed anything.

If anyone knows a good way to fix the driver for this device (or at least to make the system load it properly) please post here. Thanks.

Hi

My printer stopped working after 6 months problem free. I tested system and found teredo tunnel pseudo interface not working in device manager. The printer troubleshooter showed nothing.

I used the steps under other answers to solving teredo problem which involved unloading the driver, setting the teredo client and rechecking device manager showed no error . The interface does not show up now but it looks like this is not a problem as it is a transitional technology and if printing works no-one is usually bothered.

However my printer still does not work, I cannot get a test page to print.

Windows trouble shooters show no problem with network or printer. Printer is connected using USB lead - as has worked allright for 6 months. I am therefore baffled as what to do next. I am thinking to uninstall and reinstate printer driver but am not sure if that will help.

I would be grateful for help as I'm not technical and need to get things working urgently.

This adapter has had a yellow exclamation mark on it with a "device cannot start error Code 10" for a long time. Internet works fine but at times i get limited connectivity on my computer and i think it has something to do with this. My ISP is fine. I have already re installed the driver and followed http://appuals.com/teredo-tunnel-adapter-error-code-10/ but it doesn't work.

Any help will be great!

After disabling Teredo Tunneling-Interface(TTI) I gained back 10% of my system resources in Windows 7 and it fixed a problem with Symantec 360 v3 pop-ups. Ever since I first loaded Windows 7 I had immediately had problems with Symantec's security suite. Getting pop-ups that notified me of being connected to a shared network. I've been searching for weeks now to figure out how to either disable the pop-ups or get an updated from Norton. I'd go through the logs of the security history and see that I was having what looked like hex mac addresses either attempting to connect or disappear from TTI. Finally last night I came upon a site that showed 3 simple commands on how to disable TTI, because it is not a necessary service. In fact, it'd be good to read up on it, because it might become useful to turn back on if the internet ever upgrades to IPv6. Anyways, after doing this I noticed a 10% gain from my system's monitor gadget and Windows even asked me to re-run my Windows Experience Index (WEI). I'm still in some ways wondering why it took up so much of my resources?

You may better probe and fix these issues by the help of Performance Monitor as available inside Administrative Tools...

I have been having networking problems for the past couple of months but nothing serious, until I bought a new printer and ran across this adapter, now Im guessing this thing is built in, I have been doing all kinds of research on it, and have tried every "fix" that I have seen and nothing has worked! REGEDIT fix hasn't worked, uninstall and reinstall hasn't worked, an update driver hasn't worked, im at a wall, im not an idiot but im not and IT Pro I know my way around the PC pretty well.

Help!
I am having an issue with my LENOVO WIN7 Desktop computer. My mouse stop working and I noticed an exclamation point in my device driver for Microsoft Tunneling Adapter. Like an "***" I deleted it and now my mouse will not work and so its hard to go through the motions to repair it. ( not that good with the short-cut buttons). I have an WINDOWS DRIVERS PACK V2.5 , I thought it had the proper drivers on it but it had mini-directories and I have no clue which is which or how to load it. Would ANYONE know how to fix this? I did make a repair disk, gonna try that next...Here is the info for the driver:::::::
Microsoft Driver Version 6.1. 7600.16385 / c:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\tunnel.sys
I'll be checking for ANY response.....Thank you in advance. I know someone can feel my misery

First time here. If anyone could help I sure would appreciate it, I was first playing dungeons and dragons when suddenly it began to shut down. This driver was the name was listed, and it had a yellow exclamation mark. I clicked on the update driver and selected the automatically choose, which I read may have been the wrong choice from manually. Nothing happened, so then I had the brilliant idea to uninstall it altogether, but finding the diver to reinstall has been challenging. OS windows vista (I know).
Thank you.

Device Manager
Post back the results in device manager
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

windows key and pause Key should open to allow device manager to be seen on laptops may need to use windows key + FN key + Pause Key
if not then

Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X
post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here

So through some research I found out that Teredo is no where to be found on my computer. I used the ipconfig/all method and Teredo doesn't even come up. It is also not listed in Device manager after I enable the option "show hidden devices". I've tried nearly everything and it's getting really frustrating so can someone please help me with this problem?
