Q: Solved: Laptop cannot connect to internet. Unable to connect to 10.1.1.1. too

Hi everyone,

I have three computers connected wirelessly to the same router. Two of them are working perfectly and are able to connect to the router via 10.1.1.1.

One of them cannot. It can't connect to 10.1.1.1. or to any page on the internet. Internet Explorer comes up with the message 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. Firefox gives a similar message.

Here is the info that I got with ip config/all:

Preferred Solution: Solved: Laptop cannot connect to internet. Unable to connect to 10.1.1.1. too

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just rebuilt a laptop for a friend. I downloaded the latest drivers for the wireless connection from Acer website. They have installed correctly.

I can connect the laptop to the router by wireless and I can browse the local network and see the other PC's BUT the internet is shown as not connected. Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit. Other wireless devices (iPad for instance connect to the internet fine).

I have re-booted the router.

Anyone got any ideas?

Same with an ethernet connection?

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following commands:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

ping 8.8.4.4

ping yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad T400 Laptop
Windows Vista ; Recently purchased
Problem: Unable to Connect to Internet ; also connection status says connected from computer to router to internet (all green connections).

Already tried:
1) Disabling all Firewall settings.
2) Reviewing Internet Options.
3) Pinging the IP Address from CMD.
4) Searching under Device Manager, the network adapter IS recognized.
I've tried a few other things through "DOS" that seemed to not work.

Unable to download any programs via Internet because ... I CANNOT connect to the Internet.

I have two other computers that are connecting wireless through this router. One is a desktop that is working fine, the other is a laptop (roommates--dont know much about it) working fine.

I am still unable to connect to the internet..... websites. It says Page Cannot be Found. Yet diagnostics say that Windows cannot detect any problems with the connection..

Not sure what is going on. -- I have copy and pasted and list of what I've read thus far from the forums to see if anything works.

Still no success. And it's $75/hour for someone to take a look at it.. UGH. You technicians must be RICH!

Just got off the phone with Verizon. They had me push the reset button and I was able to connect to the internet again. I mentioned how slow it takes for pages to load. She said if I have two firewalls running that can happen, then eventually it blocks your internet connection. I have the free Avira and am only using the Windows Firewall. She said the Verizon router has a firewall but it's a low security. So I went on the internet was able to get on some sites, but then others wouldn't connect again, said there is no internet connection. All the lights on the router are on. So far it's still working, but this is what happened before when I lost my connection completely.

I have Windows XP, tried it both on IE 8 and Firefox. The router is an Actiontec MI42WR. The problem was with both my desktop and laptop wired connections.

Hello I own a HP pavilion dv7 laptop and I'm having trouble connecting to my home connection. My laptop connects to other connections but my desktop PC and gaming console are connecting to the "broken" internet just fine so I'm assuming it's the laptop.
I've tried unplugging the modem/router for minutes, uninstalling/reinstalling the network adapter device ((It now keeps coming up as "unidentified network" instead of the original name for the connection; Should I be concerned??)), and even just stopped using the laptop for a few days to see if somehow that would fix it.
I've troubleshot it and it says theres a problem with my access point/router but I don't see how that's the problem if everything else is working fine. I've spent 3 hours looking into solutions to this problem and I've come accross that the router may not be giving the laptop an IP to connect too but I'm still not sure how to fix this issue or if it's another issue all together.

If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Trey.

My laptop HP compaq presario c700 (Windows Vista) has problem connecting to the internet for almost 1 month. If i try to connect to the internet, it is giving the error "wireless association failed because windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point". I found in this forum that one had almost the same issue and changed the channel and it worked. I wanted to try it but don't know how to change the channel. Infact, I don't know what a channel is ! Can anyone guide me what I am supposed to do in order to change the channel?

A:Unable to connect my laptop to the internet..

How far away is the router?

The channel can be changed in the router's settings after you log into the router. If you have other devices around that use that range (surveillance cams and other things), changing the channel might help. Does it work better if you are close to the router?

(The channel option might also have an "auto" option where it chooses a channel by itself that is not in use.)

Hello guys,

I have just finished my very first computer build and am rather happy with most things.

Unfortunately I am having problems connecting to the internet.

I have a temporary dongle in place and because it's my only option for about a month I kinda need it to work.

When I first connected it I found my connection and I successfully connected, I downloaded Google Chrome and Steam, then unfortunately it randomly stopped working.

Where the strength bar should of been, there was a large red cross, when I found my connection it read "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network." I Googled this and people said delete your connection and reconnect, that didn't work, so then I tried to set my security type to something different or off as recommended in a solved post, the problem persisted.

Now after restarting my computer several times it sometimes rejects my password, or comes up with the "the settings for the network..." and on rare occasions it connects then 5 minutes later comes up wit my original problem.

I have tried resetting my connection details as what is saved on my laptop and mac and they don't work either.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards, Lee.

The virus would stop all sorts of activities on the notebook, we could not use system restore, we could not run our anti virus and could not access the internet.
We have had some help referring to sites as Malwarebytes which we downloaded and ran, this removed some infection then we ran SuperAntispyware which removed many more bugs from the system.
Having rid the laptop from the virus, however, we can't connect to the internet.
Please, is there anyone who may be able to help!

Open Internet Explorer. Then Go to TOOLs, then Internet Options, Select the connections tab. On the bottom you will see Lan Settings click on that. In the lower half of this screen you will see " Proxy servers" make sure both boxes are unchecked. Once your finished click OK, then OK and Close out of IE and bring it back up and you should have connectivity..

About two days ago, I finally got all of the settings right and was able to access files from each computer on the other. However, afterward I took the laptop upstairs and piggybacked on my neighbors wireless internet. The next day when I went back downstairs and plugged in the ethernet cable I found that I was unable to connect to the internet through the cable anymore, either through the router or directly to the modem. My laptop is 1 year old and has worked great until a month ago. I was unable to connect to the internet and thru troubleshooting got a "missing network adapter". I have since upgraded the driver. I also purchased Registry cleaner program that supposedly found over 400 registry errors.

I found by accident that I was able to connect normally if I turned the PC off by holding the power button. Then restarting, I got a message to start windows normally. When I did, and then it connected to the internet normally.

Now, each night if I leave the power connected to the laptop and shut down windows from the Start command it works fine.

I do not want to have to leave the power connected. Can anyone help? Toshiba tech support is unable to help other that suggesting I return the PC to the "out of the box' status which is totally unacceptable to me.

A:Unable to connect to internet after laptop power is turned off

The "Registry Cleaner" you purchased is mostly likely a sales scam which has ruined your Win7. These are Public Enemy #1 of Win7 which will not tolerate the mindless tweaking they do.

If you want to clean your PC use CCleaner Disk and Registry tab which is a genius program recommended by everyone here, while no one here recommends any "Registry Cleaner."

You may still be able to System Restore to a point before you likely ruined Win7 with the scamware. I would try that now. We can then help you troubleshoot your wireless problem without the interference of having run the worst possible software you can run on Win7.

After assuring your wireless driver is updated in Device Manager, rightclick the wireless connection in System Tray to run the troubleshooter. What does it report?

You cannot expect to mess with Win7 the way you apparently do and not need to periodically restore it to factory condition, or even better let us help you achieve the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 sticking with the Best Practices tools and methods within to get and maintain a perfect install.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. We recently installed a new wireless router, and all the other computers in our house can access the internet. But for some reason I can only connect to the network, even though it says there's full connectivity.

I called the customer careline for our internet providers, and they said it was a problem with my computer settings, rather than the router. But they said they couldn't advise me any further unless I paid for it, hence my need to look for advice elsewhere....

Thanks!

I have obtained a Samsung R60plus Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium which used to connect wirelessly to the internet with no problems at all using an old Netgear router.
That router gave up the ghost so I have since updated it to a brand new Huawei HG533 Router. All my other PC's and tablets connect wirelessly to this new router no problems at all but i am unable to get this Samsung laptop to connect to the internet at all. It can find the network no problem, I type in my security key very carefully to make sure it is correct yet it will not connect to the Internet.

I have tried disabling the Firewall and antivirus to see if that was causing the problem, yet still no Joy. Even tried Flushing the DNS and updating the firmware on the Router, Still nothing.

I know there is nothing wrong with the Laptop yet I have tried just about everything and have searched the internet high and low for a solution, does anyone have any suggestions ?

You don't happen to have a spare network card laying aorund do you?
Or a wireless adapter would be even better.

I had what sounds to be the same problem with my PC. All the router settings seemed to be fine but i was getting no connection via the ethernet card.

I accidentally solved this issue by installing my usb network adapter which reset all my network settings and started the ethernet connection working again.
Also had the same problem on one of my mates machines which was resolved by installing a new pci network card.
After the settings reset the 1st card worked fine again.

If you dont have any spares laying around, you could try uninstalling and re-installing the ethernet card, but that didn't go to well for me.

You may also want to check the router settings just incase.
Cheers,

I am at a friends and he cannot connect to the internet using his Zoom BB modem. We are currently using a steam powered dial-up connection.

The problem seems to have a arisen when he installed a live-update for NAV, but this may well be a complete coincidence.

We have uninstalled NAV and the Norton Personal Firewall as the ISP thought it maybe being caused by the firewall blocking the internet connection, but no change! The ISP say they can see the modem from there end but whe we try to connect from here it says there is no internet connection?

I have uninstalled the modem and re-installed it and that has made no difference, and I have also run AdAware and SPybot just incase but not much found and no difference with the BB connection. Has anyone got any ideas?

I have attached a current HJT log incase there's anything there which needs sorting.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I live in a appartment block that has free wifi for residents. I have two laptops both of which worked perfectly connecting to the internet until two days ago when one would no longer connect and each time I tried I got a LIMITED OR NO CONNECTIVITY box in the wireless icon.

The problem seems to be that I'm not getting any other IP address other than 169.254...

I've tried a number of things to fix this that I've seen on forums.

One thing I tried was to go to the command prompt and run a IPCONFIG/ALL - IPCONFIG/RELEASE - IPCONFIG/RENEW. When I try and renew I get a UNABLE TO CONTACT DHCP SERVER reply.

Can anyone help with this? my other laptop works fine. I've not made any changes to my laptop it just stopped working two days ago and its a really annoying!

I even tried to connect to a different network and it still had teh same problem.

Would appreciate any input

D

EDIT: Please disregard, I had a friend bring me an updated virus scanner on an external HD, and upon running it the issue was resolved. Sorry for any trouble!

Hello! First off, I want to thank you for stopping by this thread, any help would be greatly appreciated, and please excuse any typos as I am using my phone and am horrible at texting.

My internet stopped working a few hours ago. It didn't start connectivity issues until after I restarted earlier today. I didnt think it was on my internet provider's end, but I called just in case, and he said he showed the modem connected to the internet. After running through some troubleshooting he said the computer is unable to obtain the correct IP address.

I tried resetting my DHCP client under Services (it shows it's running but restarting doesn't help), tried doing a system restore, and ran a spyware scan, although my scanner is out of date, and currently I don't have a virus scanner which is obviously a huge fault on my end, if it is caused by a virus.

I'm running Windows 7. Im using a modem and router. I would also like to note that no other devices, like phones or laprops, can connect. Here are some system specs and the results of running ipconfig: (also, I apologize if I left out any key information!)

Hey, i recently finished clearing my computer of any spyware using this forum. Everything was great until the final steps. After post #17 (clearing cookies), i was only able to connect to the internet for a breif time before losing connection and wasnt able to reconnect w/o rebooting which would lead to the same problem. "Forhockey" tried to help me w/ the problem, but now even after startup, i can't connect to the internet at all! Luckily, i have a 2nd computer to communicate with you.

After running a diagnostic check the first few times, it said there was a problem w/ winsock. "Forhockey" tried to help me w/this and now the diagnostic check says to "contact the company that provides windows xp support, or go online to support.microsoft.com/winxp"

Admittedly I've never tried to use any of the internet features with my HP all-in-one. What additional do you have to do for internet access after connecting to the router? You are able to connect to the router, right?

have used the wifi key 2824802629 with the number and capital O but neither works.Click to expand...

That smells like WEP. Use WPA-PSK; it's easier and newer devices seem to have more and more trouble working with the old technology. Are you implying that you cannot connect to the router? If you can't then obviously you won't have internet access.

What's the "service tag" number and/or "express service code" number on that Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop?

It appears to have either an Intel wireless ( R155386.exe ) or Dell (Broadcom) wireless ( R94827_ZPE.exe ) device.

Has Windows XP Professional been upgraded to SP3?

Did you install the Intel chipset driver ( R114079.exe ) before you installed any of the other drivers?

Hi folks.
After some years my computer had become slow and hangy, also it seemed that it had been crashing and rebooting if I left it for extended periods, as sometimes I'd come back to find all programs closed down. So, I decided to format and reinstall XP.
That went ok, and the updates too.

My problem is that now sometimes (one in ten?) when I try to connect to the internet, it won't. IE opens... the 'Dial Up Connection' box appears, but it's unable to make a connection. My USB modem appears to be working fine though, as the light in my Taskbar is green as it should be. I can also carry on using other programs ok, the computer is still running, but the only way to get a connection is to reboot
I've found if I unplug the modem USB lead after a failed connection the computer crashes to a blue screen. If I unplug it after it's made a connection though, I get no crash.

I recently cleaned my laptop off a lot of malware using several tools in the"Malware Removal "forum - TDSSKILLER, ADWCLEANER, Panda online scanner, JRTKILLER, etc.

The laptop is much much faster than before the cleanup. But since the time I did the last ADWCLEANER scan and subsequent wipe off all the goop, I'm unable to connect to the internet. Neither through Wi-Fi nor the LAN cable. The connection is never detected - all my other devices are detecting the Wi-Fi and my other laptop has no trouble with the Wi-Fi or the LAN.
Can you pls help my laptop get back to the internet? I tried reinstalling all the network related drivers but it does not help....

I have a problem connecting to the internet that I'm fairly certain comes from a virus that has set up a proxy network disallowing antivirus, gaming, updates etc. I actually have the exact same problem as the user "rewired" who posted this message a few days ago
"When installing Starcraft 2 it comes up with this message on the installer:

Unable To Connect
The Starcraft II installer requires an online connection in order to install, and cannot currently connect to the internet to authenticate. Please check your firewall settings and ensure that your computer is properly connected to the internet, then restart the installer.

I went to the support page and fixed some ports that it said to change, and did so. It comes up with the same message, and I am wondering if this has to do with the same thing that the other thing did. Because this usually never happened before I got that virus.

I use Firefox.

Is there some thing I could by using a program fixer here?: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm"

The only difference is that I use vista. The moderator dvk01 helped him solve his problem perfectly, but since I am new to this site I am unable to PM him and request his help, I wonder if someone else could notify him of my problem so he could help me out.
Thanks a lot

Hello, I am new to this forum, I am in need of some help in correcting an issue I am experiencing with my home wireless setup. I apologize if I have posted my question in an incorrect section of the forums, I went with what I thought was closest to my concern.

I have a cable internet connection through Comcast, which is connected to our two-in-one modem that also controls the digital phone service aspect of our service from Comcast. The modem then connects to a Linksys WRT54g wireless router that I can access the internet via IE on my laptop. I have a USB Network Adapter (Linksys Compact Wireless G) WUSB54GSC that has delivered intermittent performance for our other PC. (Both are currently running XP Home)

I am currently online with my laptop using the internet connection provided by my router, the Linksys USB adapter is connected to the access point and shows roughly 65% link quality and it indicates connection to the network. However, whenever I try to use IE, I receive an error message informing me that " The webpage is unavailable because you are offline." I've tried to deselect Work Offline in the tools tab, but when I go to connect, I am only given the option to connect using my wife's VPN connection she has for the hospital she works for. I've even tried connecting with the VPN to no avail. What should I try next? Thanks!

This is a long shot but I don't know if anyone can help. A friend has been experiencing more and more problems getting connected to the internet using his broadband connection, to the point now that he cannot connect at all. Unfortunately I am a 100 miles plus from him but have managed to get, via a friend, a copy of a recently run HJT log. It may not be the most recent version of HJT but that is the best he can do at present.

Originally he thought it was a problem with NAV as the problem seemed to start immediately after running Liveupdate, and his ISP, who were about as helpful as a chocolate teapot, also felt this was causing the problem so he has unistalled both NAV and their firewall. To no avail.

I don't know if there is anything that sticks out from the log but if someone can cast a eye over things that would be very much appreciated, if not I guess he'll have to toddle off to the PC hospital locally.

Thanks for any help

Hi,

I hope someone can help!

I am on holiday in Spain attempting to connect to a residential wireless network on a router that was installed up by an engineer this morning.

When the engineer was here he connected an HP laptop using XP to the wireless router. At first there was an issue with the connection (seemingly the same error message I am getting now), he did something to the wireless settings on the laptop, which stupidly I didn't see, and it successfully connected.

When I attempted to connect my laptop to the same wireless router I got the same error message:
'Connection Unsuccessful'
I clicked Diagnose Problem and got this:
'This computer has got limited or no connectivity'

I first selected the 'Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter' but this didn't solve the problem. I then viewed the Wireless Network Security Settings and as far as I can see they are identical to those on the HP laptop that has successfully connected:

Security Type: No Authentication (open)
Encryption Type: WEP
Network Security Key: **********
Key Index: 1

I then connected my laptop to the router using the ADSL cable and was able to connect to the internet, but I am still unable to get a wireless connection. When I view the wireless connections I am 'Connected With Limited Access'.

I have included information below about laptop/router types. I'm not sure if anything else is required. Please also bear in mind I am in... Read more

Have you got the correct password for WEP for the wireless setting
remove the wireless profiles and reconnect and re-enter the password - see below

whats the make and model of the router - i would log intothe router and remove the WEP setting and see if you can now connect

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless Profiles
http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networking-tutorials-f17/removing-an-existing-wireless-profile-t109.htm
- Vista/Windows7:
http://www.tp-link.com/support/showfaq.asp?id=214
- delete the wireless profiles
Start> control Panel> classic view> network and sharing center> manage wireless networks

Delete the profiles
you will then have to enter the wireless security key for any networks you connect to - so make sure you know the correct password , and not using an incorrect password at all

Help
I had to reinstall XP Pro on my laptop and now I can't get onto the internet.
It shows that I have a connection to my broadband router. Led is on both ends of ethernet and there is a connection box showing but when I try to go to a web page it says failed connection unavailable to go online.

I show a 1394 connection when I click on the connection icon but no packets sent
I show a 1394 net adapter -working properly
It shows nic1394.sys driver working properly.

I think I should show a Local Area Network icon connection instead?

Am I missing an ip address or something. I don't know how to check it or put it in.
Do I have something wrong setup.

I have another XP PC running and it shows a 'Local Area Connection' icon ( instead of a 1394 connection icon) and it works fine. It connects ok.
