Preferred Solution: Predefined Auto Search. Everywhere.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello BlitzMX, I have given a good look for something similar to what you are looking for, but I am not sure if there is such a browser extension, probably not enough people have the need for it.

Why are you looking for something like this anyway? The only application I can think of, would be IRC, where you may wish to say something based on a reply that appears (making a bot).

If you are making a website, then you could use JavaScript/PHP (depending how you implement it) to show messages once certain text appears and/or is inputted.

Hi,

I can't seem to remove Baidu search from the list of search providers in the IE8 search box. After removing it, it comes back when I restart IE8.

In addition, I get the popup with "A program on your computer has suggested a new default search provider for Internet Explorer" (Baidu) a few second after starting IE8.

I also noticed that typing a random string into the URL box brings up a Baidu auto-search, even if auto-search is disabled. (Internet Options->Advanced->"do not submit unknown searches to your auto-search provider" is set).

MalwareBytes v1.46 does not find anything.

Thanks,

I am trying to remove OEM branding from IE 11 in Windows 10. For the most part I have managed to get rid of most of it but there is one last thing that is proving tricky. This is a pre filled url in the dropdown IE address bar, which points to the manufacturer's
support site unsurprisingly.

Obviously you can click the cross next to it and it will go, but will return upon any reset of IE.

I thought the answer may lie in the reg key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
plus the corresponding HKLM keys also.

Having deleted the entire key, which contains every setting for IE, I sill see that upon any reset of IE (from advanced tab of internet options), the url returns.

So the question is really where is IE getting this information from at the point that it is reset. More to the point, where have the manufacturer hidden something somewhere that IE then pulls into it as it's default.

Many Thanks

I'm looking for a way to quickly reference a predefined selection of files.

For example, folder "Photos" contains:

1.jpg
etc.
9.jpg

In another folder, "Best of Photos", I want to reference a few of the photos in "Photos". I say 'reference' because I don't want to actually move or copy any files from "Photos" to "Best of Photos".

One way to do it would be to create several shortcuts, one for each selected photo, and place them in "Best of Photos". The downside is that it can become a mess when there are many selected photos.

A different way would be to use a saved Windows Search. I could use the query "1 OR 2 OR 4 OR 8" and than save the Windows Search to the "Best of Photos" folder. In theory it's an elegant solution but as soon as there are more than about 80 OR's this method no longer works.

The way I'm currently doing it is by adding some sort of suffix to the selected photos filename, e.g. 1_SEL.jpg and then searching for SEL to select the right photos. This is probably the best solution I've come up with, but it's not ideal since I prefer to keep the filenames untouched.

Would there be a better solution to this problems than the ones I've come up with?
Thanks in advance!

An odd one maybe.

I have created a template, the template is named as such. when a user goes to save it, they tend to just click save, so in the job folder it says 'template', this is no good - they are fools.

is it possible to define a save name? say 'job programme'? then id want them to enter a bit of id to it, but its better than 'template'.

it is odd i know, long way round for a short cut maybe, but the original template has to be called 'template' otherwise my co-workers will never find it - or assume theyv done it.

maybe choose the name from a cell? dont know if thats possible either (i know they could change it then, but the problem is that they dont)

any advice will be welcomed.

UploadIt! for Image Hosting
Dell Picture Studio Image Expert for Image Editing

Whenever I capture and save a pre-defined screen area image using ScreenPrint32 I am not entirely happy with the image quality.

Notice the "white spots" or "speckling" that surround most of the text as seen here in this unedited version:
I use Dell Picture Studio's Image Expert to edit my pix and again I mention that the image above is unedited or resized it's 1:1....this condition exists when I first view the image after saving into Image Expert and prior to using UploadIt! So, it would have nothing to do with the UploadIt! Image Hosting process.

If I want to resize the image from, in this case, 792x143 Pixels down to a more practical 492x87 Pixels size for Forum Thread viewing, the image quality and text clarity/sharpness is even more deformed as shown in the following image.
Here I simply resized the image:

How can I optimize the image quality?
Switch to an alternate Image Editor?

Thanks for any thoughts, ideas or suggestions?

Preface:
My mother is 77 yrs young and has trouble, too often for my liking, with dragging and dropping files to the correct folders. She imports pics from her digital camera, which get sent to a newly created folder (date-time) insode her main picture folder. Then she edits the file-name and sometimes crops and tweaks the images. When she is done, she needs to move them from this temporary date-time folder to any number of specific folders.....Thanksgiving, Christmas, John, Mark and Terry...etc.

Objective:
I'm looking for a more fail-safe way of the move process. My first thought was to create a "move to" link for the right-click. But from there she has to continuously search for the "Specific file." I thought there were programs out there that allowed one to have a group of 'specific folders" to move files to. In other words, Right-click on a file, select move to, have a list of folder that one could move the file to, select the folder, and its all done.

any ideas??

A:Finding an easy way to move a file to a predefined location

If there are not too many target folders, you could include them into the sendto right click menu. That would work with up to e.g. 10 - after that it gets a bit messy.

If that's something you want to try, post back and I give you the details. Here is an example of my right click menu that I have set up that way - but only for 1 folder => A1Temp.

Hi there!

Question:
Is there a way to have a Document to be printed on a predefined Printer NOT beeing the System Default one?

Let me explain:
We're using an Excel that needs to be filled with Information which then fills the gaps in a special designed Paper we used with our old Printer.

As of recently we aquired a 2nd Printer ( System Default ) which is having problems with the special Paper so we have to use the old one but the one person which handles this work is a little overwhelmed when it comes to switching Printers.

( I know... it's just one click but meh... )

Thanks in advance for any help ?:}

Seeing as you`ve got half into the L2M fix, lets continue.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

From Powerdesk Pro 5:
To control the drives that display in the drive bar: Go to OptionsāPreferences. Click the Drives tab.By default, all drives are checked. Uncheck the box next to the drive letter(s) you don?t want displayed. You can also use this to specify what categories of drives you want displayed. If you don?t want, say, removable drives to appear, uncheck that box.Drives that are not checked will not display in the drivebar or the tree list. This doesn?t delete the drive, or any files on it. To have the drive reappear in PowerDesk, just recheck the box.If you have a lot of network drives mapped on your system, or have really small partitions, the drivebar may cut off the last few drive letters. If it doesn't accept your home page try the following

When I change my homepage it changes back.
There are two ways this can happen. One you have been hijacked by a site or an ISP locks in their home page.
Here is what Microsoft has to say.:
Cannot Change Default Home Page Setting from Webcombo Site http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q302459
PassThisOn.com Home Page Appears When You Start Computer http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q309313
In addition, you may discover that browser.secondpower.com is being added to your homepage URL. This link has an Uninstaller: http://www.secondpower.com/customer.html
ISP Locks the home page
Home Page Setting Changes Unexpectedly, or You Cannot Change Your Home Page Setting http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q320159
Here you can change the dword value to: 00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel] - DWORD "HomePage"=dword:00000001 (This setting will gray out the section)

Sorry for any confusion but I recently received new laptop with Win 10 and trying to set it up is driving me loopy..
I notice when Google on FF keeps completing search.
I have the FF "Options/Search" UN-checked where it says "Show search suggestions in location bar results."
Is there someplace else in Google where I need to check or un-check so Google (in FF) does not complete the search name?

I also notice (in FF) when I am typing in my user name for AOL mail, it too auto completes. I don't think that is Google, I think it might be FF (which I recently refreshed).
But when using Outlook (while in FF) it does not complete my user name.
Really confusing.

sleekluxury,

In IE (assuming), go to Tools > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete

Place a check in the Forms box of Use AutoComplete for section and click 'OK'.

Now, go to the 'Advanced' tab and scroll down to tthe bottom of the Browsing section.

If you have a check mark in Use inline AutoComplete then it will complete within the field you are typing. If you have it unchecked, then you will get a drop down list of similar previous entries to choose from.

I created a "search folder" in outlook with one criteria (Recieved = Today) and (Browse = inbox) This displays all the eamils that are recieved (today) and it searches the inbox and all it's subfolders so I don't have to dig through all subfolders.

This is working great with only one glitch. It doesn't update itself automatically, so if I open outlook in the morning it displays the emails from yesterday (which were "today" yesterday ) I have to right click the search folder, click (customize current view) and click OK then it refreshes itself automatically. This is strange because I have another search folder that displays yesterday's emails and this one automatically refreshes itself everyday whenever I opened outlook and all other search folders update whenever I use them (based on date or any other criteria). Any idea why this happens?

Is there a way to disable "auto suggestion" in the Windows explorer search ? This is NOT about Internet explorer, but rather the search feature that is available under "Search" button on the tool bar of the explorer window (that shows folder contents). The search feature asks for "All of part of the file name" and then once I start typing, it shows a list of names having the prefix matching whatever I typed so far. How does one disable showing up of this list automatically ?

This works fine in XP, ubuntu, pretty much everything. But windows 7 rather "searches" for things with the letter M, which has a several second delay on my PC which i don't like and/or need.

Does anyone know how to disable this auto-"search

Hey, Just in case anyone else is having this problem, It took me a while, but I finally figured out how they redirected auto.search.msn.com on my computer, It was fairly simple, Im not quite sure why when I did a text search on my hard drive the first time it didnt pick it up. Anyways Today I installed this program called silencer, which blocks all kinds of Ip adresses, and it brought my attention to this file in the windows directory called host
I looked in there and right at the first line it said

66.40.16.218 auto.search.msn.com

So I deleted it problem solved. Sheesh after all this time I cant believe it was so simple, Anyways if anyone ever has trouble with something redirecting your adresses and you know its not right, just check a file in your windows directory called host, edit it with notepad or word pad. It might be empty or not exist. But who knows, take a look at it, you might be suprised whats in there.
Heres something neat I noticed that the silencer program does, you can do it yourself I imagine though.

If you ever want to disable some Ip adress, such as
ads.double-click.com You can do it easily by placing this line in your host file in the windows directory

127.0.0.1 ads.double-click.com

This works for any site you want to put in there, It redirects the domain to your local IP which disables alot of ads , I dont know if it protects your ports, but I noticed a heck of alot less ads on the internet because of this. The silencer program at spychecker.com d... Read more

Hi,
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit.
For other system specs I have added them to my profile.

When I open the start menu whether it be with the windows key or mouse click a right click menu pops up and appears to be right clicked inside the search bar, I tested this by copying some text and clicking paste on the auto right click menu.

It stays there until I click something but will come back within 1 second or until I stop holding the mouse button.

Note: So far It's ONLY happened in the start menu search box.

Any and all help will be appreciated!

Hello everyone - I just registered and I would like to ask for some advice. I have spend hours trying to rid my computer from the isearch menace. I somehow got infected by this issue, though I never clicked on anything to do with isearch afaik.

I continously had new browser windows starting up and pointing to the isearch home page. This happened say every 5 -10 minutes. I managed to limit this by performing many different fixes suggested on forums like this and running various clean-up programs. The result of that work was that though the new browser windows keep starting up but the isearch website is never reached. Instead I got a dialog box with an error message stating that the website cannot be reached. I click OK, close the browser window and continue my work.

Today I tried attacking this issue once more. I went to the about:config file and found some entries for isearch. I changed those to Google. What happens now is that a new mozilla window starts up, it starts looking for google.com and I get a screen which says "Google Error. The requested URL /%251 was not found on this server." I can close this screen and continue as per normal. At least I managed to reduce the clicks to get rid of this issue by 50% :-) since I no longer get the error message dailog box. But I still have to close these browser windows that keep starting up voluntarily.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have spend many hours looking through forums trying to get... Read more

Hi JWAT,

Have you run any spyware/adware programs to try to find and delete this menace?

These programs sometimes hide and are reactivated each time you reboot making the job very difficult.

You can try freeware like Ad-Aware, or Spybot Search & Destroy for starters.

Check out this article I saw on MSN this morning to get an idea of what we're up against. You don't need to click on a malicious URL anymore to get infected. Spyware is taking over domain servers and redirecting legitimate traffic to malicious sites!

Hello All, Lots of good information here but I'm at my wit's end.A number of our computers are infected or the router has been compromised is some way. The computers are either running Vista 64 or Windows 7 32. I have tried every root kit removal, malware scan, etc...Originally under Firefox or IE8 if you would type in a partial url or search term (e.g. Yankees) the software would realize the address was not complete and would try to connect you to basically a Google I'm Lucky result and connect you to the website (e.g. newyork.yankees.mlb.com). We are now experiencing a hijack of this function of the URL bar so that the result always comes up as "http://www1.dlinksearch.com/main?url=" This is happening for both Firefox and IE8 and across all computers which is why we also suspect some sort of DNS rebinding. Below is the DDS log for one of these computers to get started. I could not properly run GMER as it would not allow me to check off anything, the options are all greyed out. I am in need of some help. I recently got my xbox 360 to finally work in win7 (ie: green light to come on while in win7) but only after a popup screen came up show me that I had set a feature off. That feature was to set win7 to automatically search online for a driver update. I thought this was the same as Win7 update but it's not as the settings for that was different then the popup screen. I thought I could go to hardware settings (from system) and gain access to it but that too is a no go. I would have took a pic if I thought it was that difficult to find. So I hope I'm making sense.
Can anyone help? Again, I want to set win7 to always look for device drivers online if they are not found on the hard drive. But it's not the same feature as win7 update. It's outlined in a Yes and No checkmarks. Yes doesn't have any subsections while No does asking:
-always install the best driver software from windows update
-Install driver software from windows update if it is not found on my computer
-never install driver software from windows update

That's the format of the popup screen I'm looking for.

A:Need to find section that allows win7 to auto search drivers for HW.

Go to help and support and type drivers. You will get all the information that is needed. It is easier than having me give my ideas.
It will be in the first section after you select drivers.

That being said, this is the better way.
More difficult, but you will not get the one driver fits all.
How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper
