Complete Hardware Failure Warning of PS3 Controller Charger attachment to Lenovo G50

Q: Complete Hardware Failure Warning of PS3 Controller Charger attachment to Lenovo G50

Hey everyone, my Lenovo G50 laptop ( I bought it in store from bestbuy January of last year). Recently had a hardware failure and it seems to be directly linked to my attempt of charging my 3DS via PS3 controller charger by powering it through my laptop usb. I wanted to charge my 3DS but didn't have my original charger so I saw that you can charge it with a PS3 controller charger. That worked. I had my laptop off the battery for the night. The battery died overnight the next morning it wouldnt turn on. I tried leaving it putting on the charger for about 10-15 mins and it still would not turn on. I made sure my plug was working and all of that. A friend of mine recently sent me a lenovo charger to see if my charger died. It still did not work. So this is a warning that although not 100% sure, DO NOT insert a PS3 Controller Charger into a Lenovo G50. I'm not sure if the same would happen on other models.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello community,Several days ago my charger for Lenovo Yoga Pro 3 has failed causing an electric spike that shut down the laptop. After receiving a new one laptop did turn on no problem, battery is charging, however is all was fine I wouldn't be posting here.USB ports do not work. No electric output, no device detections etc. Ever the charging port usb does not work, only powers and charges.I tried reseting bios, checking bios settings, drivers, windows re-install, lenovo troubleshooter. None helped. Is anybody aware where on the MOBO I can check for fault? Will I have to replace mobo or is the usb controller a part I can order and swap?

Last week i scanned my new lenovo y530 using lenovo vantage due to a slow start up and during the HDD scan  the SMART short self test wont complete and gets stuck at 10% even after leaving it overnight , how to fix this , should i be worried about it?

I don't think you should be worried that much about it. If your device is slowly booting try turning off some startup apps and clean up your disk since the more you store on it the more time is required for it to boot from the HDD. You can also test with Windows's Error checking on the drive if there are file system errors. And you can run Disk Defragment to speed up your device a bit. Check to see if you can hear any unusual clicking noises coming from the drive. Hope this helpsCheers

Hi all, not sure if I'll get a response to this but thought it was worth a try. So for all intents and purposes, I have buggered my g50-70. its out of warranty so I don't have much chance of repair. Essentially the harddrive was starting to flake out and reset at the slightest nudge or minor movement on my lap, and the other night it did it for the umpteenth time and I finally lost my rag. I closed the lid hard and since then, the laptop won't boot up and complains that the "Default Boot Device Missing or Boot Failed" and I therefore cannot load it up etc I was going to buy a new HDD and try to set it up fresh using drivers etc but the laptop came with windows 8 and upgraded to windows 10 for free, so what can I do in this situation? do I have to buy a windows license again? Can I install the operating system from scratch? Or is there a way to recover my operating system if the hdd fails? Bearing in mind that I don't know when I last did any kind of backup etc Any advice would be greatly appreciated Thanks

I bought a new Lenovo Yoga 920 in September, 2018.  On Nov. 1, 2018, it had a hardware error that required that I ship it back to Lenovo for repair.  I didn't hear anyting from Lenovo by mid November, so I chatted with a support around Nov. 15 and found that it had a bad motherboard and that the repair time was unknown because they had no motherboards in inventory.  I called back in around the beginning of December and found out that the part was still not available and the repair date was unknown.  On the repair order, it had an expected repair date of December 12, 2018.   I called back in on December 12, 2018 and found that the part was not available and the repair date was unknown.  Today is December 13, 2018 and I have not received any communication from Lenovo regarding the status. I'm cool with laptops breaking, but the complete lack of communication from Lenovo has been very dissapointing.  Also, it is ridiculous that a company that manufactures laptops requires over six weeks to replace a part.  As of right now, I have no idea if and when the machine will be returned.  I'd send it back to Lenovo for a refund, but I missed the return date by a few weeks. This is my last Lenovo...

I started having several seemingly hardware-related issues with my Lenovo Y700 yesterday, and they all started within 24 hours of each other.  It started when the stock hard drive (1TB 5400RPM) began winding up really fast, then clicking and slowing back down about every five to ten seconds.  Then the laptop shut off later last night, and when I tried to turn it back on, it would lag at the Lenovo load screen, shut off, then try to boot itself back up.  This eventualy brought the laptop into the automated diagnostic mode.  I attempted a system restore from a few days prior, but I got the following error: "System Restore did not complete successfully.  Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details:System Restore failed to extract the file (C:\Windows\InfusedApps\Packages\Microsoft.SkypeApp_11.4.86.0_x64__kzf8qxf38zfrom the restore point. The restore point was damaged or was deleted during the restore. You can try System Restore again and choose a different restore point.  If you continue to see this error, you can try an advanced recover method." I don't know what the failed file is, as I don't have Skype installed on my computer (unless it came pre-installed). A second attempt a System Restore a few minutes later (from the same restore point) was successful, and the computer ran fine for a few hours until the hard drive started clicking again.  Shortly after, the computer shut down agai... Hi! I have 4 years old Lenovo Yoga Ideapad 13.  The problems started couple weeks ago, when the computer wouldn't run or start up without being plugged in. I followed some other people's advice and got a new battery. It seemed to fix to problem for while. Now few weeks after the same problem stands with the new battery. It won't start or run, but when plugged in it says the battery is 100% and charging.   I tried checking if the charger isn't working, but it charges all fine on my other Yoga, which has the same charger model. So please note that this isn't the common problem that is seen here on the forums, that the battery doesnt charge. I'm pretty frustrated, as this problem persists even though I changed the battery. Anyone have ideas? I figured it could have something to do with the battery wire connecting battery to the motherboard, but there doesn't seem to be any defects or loose wires.  However, I tried taking off the battery connection wire when plugged in, and then I get the message "No battery detected" instead of the regular "100% Fully charged". Any help is appreciated.

A:Lenovo T440s Hardware Scan Failure Result code: WH...

The device is a 16GB Solid State Drive (SSD) that is used by the Lenovo box to speed performance by caching frequently-used areas from the main hard disk. The error indicates a fault with the SSD (I have had the same problem on 2 different SSDs after using them for about a year each). I'm not sure why the SSDs seem to keep doing this - perhaps the write cycle count of certain blocks is reached too quickly in this environment, or maybe the ExpressCache software used for this function is not completely bug-free. You can continue to use the SSD as it seems from my experience that it continues to work, but not quite as efficiently as the faulty block(s) would mean the data there would be fetched from the Hard Disk after all. It would be good to hear more on this from Lenovo so that we can figure out the best course of action.

On occasion, over the past 5 days my Windows 2000-Win2k machine has had some wierd output on the screen when it boots up. It looks like bad Satelight reception. This happens before Win2k boots up so I know it is not a OS thing (also because I did a system wipe).

The only other time this happend to me was when I got my Win98 machine and had to send it back. The Win98 box had a intergrated AGP (built into motherboard) card so I had to send the entire thing! I tried my screen on my Win98 machine with the monitor and it works fine every time.

My system is new. The parts were sitting around for a long while, but they we not removed from the boxes (a few times, but that was over 4 months ago).

What could be the possible problem(s)? I don't have much money to work with so what should I do?

A:Possible hardware failure-screen?mobo?-videocard?-Help please+hardware failure?!

You might try re-seating your video card. AGP cards tend to be a bit tricky; even a small point of non-contact can create havoc. If you have access to another video card, you can try swapping video cards and see if the problem goes away. I suppose cable connections are also a possibility, although I have never seen the symptoms you describe with a loose cable.

Are you able to boot into Windoze (sorry, I couldn't tell for sure from your post)? If so, any video-related problems there?

Hope this helps.

I discovered that attaching a pdf file to an Outlook message become lost during the send when it is received in Outlook Express. (send from Outlook 2000)

BUT -- Microsoft does record that attachment as having been sent. Regardless of what method of attachment was used.

Testing this, I find that the message must be formatted not in rich text, but as html to successfully send a pdf attachment. To be received by a machine that is set also to send in html.

Must both machines be set to send in the same way in order to receive in the same way? html vs rich text vs text only, and, IF SO -- what is the safest way to do this if you are unsure what the receiving machine is set at, as everyone basically always is.

I have a slightly more than one year old T460 that worked great until last week when it just wouldn't start at all. A complete brick. The warranty repair guy came over and replaced the system board but the computer still will not start. He was saying that there may be a problem with the internal battery. The internal battery is warranted for one year and we are out of the warranty period. Besides the fact that 14 months seems like a kind of short time for the battery to completely fail, I was wondering if I should expect a complete system failure when the battery fails. I have replaced many notebook batteries in the past and I was always able to run the computer on AC power until I was able to replace the battery. Is that not the case with the internal battery on the T460? Sure, I can replace the battery but I don't want to order a $50 part and wait a week for it to be delivered only to find out that the battery is not really the problem. Both the internal and external batteries showed OK status the day before the machine went into brick mode. I this expected behavior? Can anyone comment on this?

How do I turn on the Email "Attachment warning"? It seems to be on sometimes when I get a .jpg attachment, but not on others when I don't know what the suffix is ???

I know how to turn it off during the session, of course, --click the off box, but can't find anyway of turning it back on until I shut down O.E. and bring it back up.
Then it just seems to come on automatically.

Is there a configuration procedure somewhere I can't find? I like to use this to prevent getting viruses of course.

I am getting a popup when I try to open up a file directly from an email with the title being "Attachment Security Warning". And it goes on to say:

"WARNING! - This file my contain a virus that can be harmful to your computer. You must save this file to disk before it can be opened. It is imoprtant to be VERY certain that this file is safe before you open it." Then the only option I have is to save it to disk. It's kind of annoying when you want to just double-click and open a document but you're required to save it to disk first.

It only does this with Office documents (.doc[x], .xls[x], .ppt, etc.). I no problems opening .pdfs, pictures, etc. Only office documents.

I've done some research and know about Level 1 attachments and Level 2 attachments. And I've flat out found out that this particular warning is displayed because it is in those extensions are in the Level 2 list, or it has something to do with Level 2 in Outlook.

But how do you get to these Level 2 attachment extensions and remove them so I can just open the documents directly? Is it a registry edit somewhere?

Not all computers here are having this problem. Only a few. They are all up-to-date with updates, all have the same updates, all running Office 2007. Any ideas?

Hi everyone

hoping someone can assist with a tweak to Outlook 2003.

For some reason everytime i try and open an attachment in Outlook i get a warning saying "You should only open attachments from a trustworthy source" I then get an option to open, save or cancel. This is SO annoying.

Under the open, save or cancel options is a ticked check box which is flagged 'Always ask before opening this type of file'. Now i know this is the area i need to 'uncheck' so it doesn't always ask me before opening this type of file, however this option is 'greyed out' (ie i can not uncheck the check box!!).

I hope i have explained that well enough for someone to stear me in the right direction.

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Cheers / Jason

My Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't recognize charger any more. And unfortunately my warranty expired 2 month ago.It was plugged in and working in the morning, but then in the afternoon I noticed that it was running on the battery only. It wont start without battery (just charger plugged in).
1. So here what I have done to debug. Me and my brother, we have purchased the same Dell laptops at the same time a year and a bit ago. This is why for a debugging purposes it was good.I took my charger and plugged in to his computer. And it works. Definitely not the charger issue I guess. And when I plug charger in to my computer, green light is still on the charger. And I have the original charger that came with the laptop.
2. Now, laptop works on the battery only, so this means that motherboard is working. I guess.
3. Next thing I did was unplugged charger and removed the battery from the laptop. Then I pushed and hold "Power" button for 45 seconds to discharge a flea charge. Plugged charger back in but laptop wont start.
4. Next I started laptop on the battery, went to BIOS and checked if the charger is recognized in the BIOS. No, it doesn't recognize charger. So, if it is not a charger then what else can it be?
5. Laptop doesn't have any strange smells so I'm not sure if anything happened with the motherboard, but I would assume mother board is ok because it works of the battery.

A:Dell Inspiron 17R 5720 doesn't work with charger. Charger is not recognized. Not charger problem.

Hi CJ777,
Thanks for reaching out with your query. You pretty much figured out all points of failure. Good job.
If the adapter is not detected in BIOS, it most likely is an issue with the mother board. In the BIOS set up, AC adapter should show up as 65w or 90w. If the adapter status is 'None' or 'Unknown Device Installed', it indicates that the mother board is not detecting the adapter for which the battery is not getting charged. Once the battery charge drains, I'm sure the adapter will not charge it again. Replacing the system board should resolve this issue.

Well, assuming the AC adapter is good (which appears to be the case) then it is either the power jack harness or the motherboard itself. I am a bit confused how the light on the AC adapter brick stays dark when the output is testing OK. I assume you have removed the battery and tried to hold down the "on" button 30 seconds. There are lots of power-related daughterboards like the power button board and it is so hard to test them. Do you have the Manual: Service Manual

I have an Inspiron 1440 which I purchased in 2010. Recently I noticed that the battery charger port (round, on the left side) no longer recognizes when the charger is plugged in. I can plug it in but the battery doesn't charge. For a while, if I pushed the charger into the port very tightly the battery would charge. That no longer works.
The battery itself is not the problem. I replaced it 2 years ago (2015), and, as I said, it used to charge when I gerry-rig the charger.
I called Best Buy, where I purchased the laptop originally; they said that this particular model has a charger port that is welded to the motherboard, meaning, it cannot be removed or replaced. They advised me to purchase a new laptop. Is this the case, or can the port or charger plug possibly be repaired or replaced, without my needing to buy a new unit? The laptop works perfectly other than this problem; I realize it's 7 years old, but I don't want to buy a new one if I don't have to.

A:Inspiron 1440 Battery Charger Port Failure

They're correct that the jack is soldered to the board - it can be replaced but the labor cost will likely exceed the cost of just replacing the mainboard.

Do you mean just transfer the components of one computer to the case of the old one? This can be done fairly easily, as long as the second case is as least the size of the original one.

A:Complete Hardware erase (Help, plz)

don't mess with stuff like that, you can just open My Computer and right click the drive letter and choose format, but you might have to be in Safe mode if there are programs installed that may be running.

* or Right click "My computer" and choose manage... then under "Storage" >Disk management...right click the drive letter and choose format.

* Be sure to use NTFS file structure.

It is more complicated when you format the C drive ( where operating system is installed).

Can someone please help me out its my project semester and i don't want my laptop to switch off while I am presenting the project in exam.

Hi rahulpenn,

Welcome to the 8forums.
As you have a new laptop, do you have all the software that comes with a preinstalled laptop?

Ok, background info: computer was hitting 90C idle so I sprayed it out, restarted and it would blue screen on load. I ran a chkdsk /r and got back into windows with these issues:

Windows Installer for drivers will not start, error is Windows Installer could not be started.
InstallShield for other drivers will not start, error is RPC server could not be found.
Skype will not start, same error as above.
MagicISO will not start, cannot create taskbar icon.
Taskbar is dragged all the way down and cannot be dragged up, windows key does not open start menu.
DxDiag shows missing drivers for the SM bus, wireless Adapter and ethernet adapter, along with missing information for the motherboard, the System Manufacturer and BIOS are both N/A, along with the other system thing.
Task Manager shows no user names for any of the processes running besides the System Process where the user name is SYSTEM.
No Internet connections exist in Network Connections.

Here's the kicker, Linux works almost perfectly on the same hard drive, with the exception of torrenting which instantly freezes the computer.

Reformatting is the main idea here, but I need a guarantee that this is not an issue with hardware besides the hard drive.

One more issue, I looked up RPC and I saw something about the service and all that so I went into the services menu and saw. quite literally. nothing.

EDIT 2: lshw in linux shows the motherboard just fine, not sure if that means anything.

EDIT 3: System Restore g... Read more

A:Complete Failure

Well, with so many different issues there is no guarantee for anything.First of all, running CPU at 90C could have caused some serious damage to the processor.Since Linux runs, hopefully not.Has the overheating issue been resolved? Before you do anything else, I'd....Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287 (or http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28744&hl=hard+drive+diagnostic)Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), to make the CD bootable. For Toshiba hard drives, see here: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=ServicesSupport/FujitsuDrivesUSandCanada/SoftwareUtilities#diagnosticNote : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps HERE

Hello all I am new to the forums so stay with me.

Ok here is the problem,
About a week ago I started to get the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM files are missing or corrupt so I looked all over the internet to find a solution. Nothing came close to my problem like at the windows main website at the recovery console it never asked for the admin password so I get Access is Denied.

So I tried to start off with a clean install of Windows Xp and when I do it can't find my hard drive.... Only my external drive.

Sooo I called it quits on that hard drive and bought a brand new WD Caviar Green 500 GB drive. Once I installed that drive physically and turned my PC on, nothing just a blank black screen.

So I thought instantly to boot from the CD that came with the drive and nothing, my computer goes blank restarts etc etc...

So if any help would be great

System specs: (all that I can remember)

Windows XP pro
Nvidia 7585 (something like that)
1.5 GB of RAM

Does the motherboards bios detect the new drive? Do you have the bios set to boot from the CD/DVD first?

A:complete failure

I don't think you're loading anything onto your cpu, but onto your hard drive. Please tell us:

what system?
which service packs?
whether you have all the latest windows updates
Hard drive maker and size?
manufacturer of computer, model #?
Are you still under warranty?
How much RAM?
What upgrades have you added to fix this?
What hardware have you changed?

If you're missing these, run Belarc Adviser.

At the time of writing, my pc is in a state of complete uselessness. It appeared to come about through a rather fast worsening of my computers state.

The first problem was that during general use, audio cut out and the video being watched began unusually buffering. Shortly after, audio began to come from the monitor speakers rather than the headset i was using. This had happened several times since the upgrade to win 10 and a restart was all it took to fix previously.

However, restarting this time brough a critical error claiming both Cortana and the Star menu are not working. This also had happened once before and so i attempted to fix it. Unsure of exactly what i did previously to fix this problem i followed two help pages. One told me to uninstall Avast Anti-Virus, which i did, the other to run "sfc /scannow" in CMD as administrator. The latter found corrupt files but was unable to fix them, so in hope the Avast unistall was the fix i restarted again.

Here is when the worst came to be. The restart brought me to win 10 Automatic repair. It was unable to fix the problems. From here i tried running in safe mode which only brought me back to the repair page. I even tried doing a complete rest of the pc and a downgrade (both troubleshoot options). However both failed.

Troubleshoot cmd works and i have ran "sfc /scannow" once again from here and it tells me it cannot continue as a system repair is pending.

This is where i am at now. With no restore point... Read more

Is there a different charger fitting to N500 compared to for instance T43/42/41. The plug seems to fit but it's not charging...

Go to Solution.

A:Charger Lenovo N500

According to the N500, T41 and T43's Hardware Maintenance Manuals the problem is related to voltage output of the AC adapter.  The N500 needs a 19 to 20 VDC adapter and the T41 / T43 uses a 15.5 to 17 VDC adapter.  Here is a link to those manuals for your reference.
The AC adapter should have a label that lists the DC output of the adapter.

Is this the right charger? Because I think the store who sold it to me made a mistake and gave me a ThinkPad charger instead. This has an indication of 20V and 3.25A while my Lenovo Yoga laptop indicates (bottom of notebook) 20V and 2.25A.

Hello there folks. I've got a ThinkPad T410 that I has no charger as I threw it away, the cord frayed, didn't work and threw off sparks everywhere. Since then the T410 has just been sitting in storage but now I'd love to get it up and running again. Thing is, I don't remember which charger I need. Lenovo's official page for the T410 says it supports a 65w and a 90w charger and I don't know which one it needs. Does it matter? Thanks, have a good day.

Have a good day.

A:Need a charger for Lenovo T410

Hi Ram,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As I understand that you have query regarding T410 AC adapter. Yes, you can use both 65W & 90W Adapter depending upon your usage.
Normally 90W Adapter is used when you are using the system with dock as it will consume more power
List of universal adapter for your T410 65W & 90W
And for more details you can go through the parts list or HMM, page 179

I remember since early days of buying this laptop that sometimes when i would plug it, the power light at the front would blink with a red light for chargin, with no charging in actual. Then i would plug in again or reverse the pin and it worked. But now nothing seems to work. can you please recommend which charger should i buy and also where should i buy from? is it available on https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/accessories-and-monitors/chargers-and-batteries/c/chargers-and-batterie...     Laptop is dead, will appreciate quick response! Thanks

A:Lenovo G500 charger

You can use the OEM part number described on the label sticker of the original charger to search for compatible charger. Along with it are the specification requirements.
Here is also the FRU replacement page that you can check.
