IE 11 won't prompt nor auto save password for certain site/computer

Q: IE 11 won't prompt nor auto save password for certain site/computer

I've searched all over the place for this same issue with no luck. I've come IE won't save passwords, IE won't prompt to save passwords, and IE won't save passwords on certain sites, but I have been unable to find why on one computer it will prompt to save
the password for a site but it won't prompt to save on that same site on a different computer with the same browser.

So let me start by saying this, both computers are the same model, have the same OS, and same version of IE. (Dell OptiPlex 3010, Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64, and IE 11). I have verified the site in question allows passwords to be saved. It works on one computer
and not the other. Even if we try the same username. The company that runs the site has also verified this (Can't post the site name for privacy reasons).
I set this new user up on this computer and have done the following:
1. Made sure that prompting to save passwords was enabled in Internet options
2. Reset IE to defaults
3. Added to site to compatibility list
4. Added site to trusted sites
5. Restarted computer
6. Tested password prompt worked on another site
I know this is kind of vague, but if I am missing anything it would be greatly appreciated if someone could point it out.

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Both on my PC at work and at home, both using Windows XP and Internet Explorer 8, I do not get the prompt that asks me if I would like to save my password.
I have the Ask me before saving passwords option checked in Tools/Internet Options/Content/ Settings, and, as far as I can recall, I have never seen this prompt since switching to IE8, so have not indicated a No to the prompt, which I understand deactivates its appearance thereafter.
Is there some other setting in Internet Options or some Registry setting I can tweak to activate the prompt?

Last week, I got a request from a few users if it is possible to make IE prompt to save user credentials when the users logged into a website.

I did some testing on my local machine with the following browsers:

-IE 11, I got prompted by IE whether I want to save my user credentials
-Google Chrome, the same thing as IE 11 which worked as expected
I then shifted over to the production environment where IE 10 is being used and I did not get prompted if I wanted to save any credentials.
So that leads me to believe that IE 10 could be misconfigured or should be configured in an other way.

Is it possible to force prompts from IE 10 to be shown to the users?
Note: IE 10 will soon be updated to IE 11 or Edge when we migrate to 2012 R2, so it is also possible to wait untill the migration has been completed.

I have long used the Windows feature of saving passwords and User ID's as I can't remember them.

Now this works pretty well and I ten to stick to one of several passwords to help.

I've recently had a problem where these passwords, and sometimes user ID's are not saved at all.

This happens on some sites who prevewnt I know but this is happening on sites where it's always been saved and has just stopped.

One site I can save the password for one session but later it is gone.

WHat do I do to fix this. I haven't changed my cookie settings for many a moon and regularly clean out any that get through.

Help, I'm cinfused, but not dazed.

A:auto save password and id erratic

Its not a windows feature but your browsers feature which stores and saves your passwords.Btw which browser you are using?

In some sites you need to tick the box at login page which says "remember me".That way when you visit the said site in next session it directly logs in without the need to type in user id and password provided you saved the password for the site in the first place.

How to force IE 11 to ask for saving credentials again for just one web site, after having accidentally sellect not to remember password for that particular site. Please, take into account that:

- I'm totally aware that storing credentials is not a good security practice, but in my particular case this is what I need to do.

- I know that reseting IE or similar approachs will do the job, but doing that I'll lost more tan 70 web sites credentials. I need a solution not involving loose all the web credentials stored.
- I also know that there is way to do the trick "lying" to IE using a modified but similar username, but this only works in some web sites, depending on the kind of login mechanism used. In my particulare case this trick also does not work.
- I also know that there was a registry hack for this particular problem, but this does not work with IE last versions.

Any help would be very apreciated.

For example, a game I play, Maplestory (don't judge), would always ask me for the administrator password when I open it which allows me to enter in the password and start the game. Now, it doesn't do that anymore and I have no idea how that happened. I have all my gaming and work and other stuff on this user, which is separate from the admin one. Since all of my things are on this user, I wouldn't want to have to switch to the admin user every time I try to play a game.

Long story short, is there a setting that makes your computer automatically prompt you for the administrator's password when required on another user?

Just in the last day or so, I noticed that when I download something, like a zip file for instance, I am no longer prompted to save or Save As. It just starts downloading to a temporary folder. When it's done, WinZip opens and I'm forced to extract the files without being able to just save the zip file. I can right click and "Save As", but I long for the days of convenient downloading...
Thanks for the help!
Btw, I did check the options for both IE5 (runs on Win98) and WinZip (ver.8) and didn't see anything that seemed to apply to the situation.

Hi guys I am wondering if there is any way that I can have my computer require a password after it has been woken up from sleep, or after the screen saver has been on, while I have auto login enabled. I have auto login on because I am too lazy to enter a password every time I start up my computer or switch between partitions. But I still would like the security of requiring a password after my computer has been woken up from sleep, or if my screen saver has come on, is there any way to do this?

I have Vista. I am trying to set it so that when I put my laptop to sleep it will ask for a password to log back in when I wake it up. Under "PowerOptions > SystemSettings> Power Protection On Wakeup" I have it set to "Require a password."

However, when I wake up my laptop it does not ask for a password but instead loads right back up to the desktop. When I leave the computer idle for a long period of time and it locks itself/hybernates/whatever it does ask for a password, and I do have a password saved on the computer.

Is there something I am missing here? I'd like for the password prompt to start working.

I'm using IE 10.
I'd like to disable the prompt "Open, Save or Save as". Each time I tried to any document (ex. DOC or PDF file), IE will popup the follow prompt: "What do you want to do with ..."

Thank you!

A:How to disable "Open, Save and Save As" prompt

Each time I tried to any document (ex. DOC or PDF file), IE will popup the follow prompt: "What do you want to do with ..."

You might be able to add Open with... to a right-click menu.   But that will probably only help for files which are local, e.g. don't need to be downloaded.  I think the reason for the prompt is essentially to help route the download and notify
users of the fact that if they just try to open it they will be opening a temporary file.  E.g. it typically always goes into the TIF first.  You could probably confirm and refine these ideas using ProcMon, e.g. looking for tests of registry
values and writes of files.
For example, I just did a BING search for  filetype:doc, did a right-click Open (as one of the other thread's responders had suggested) and still see the above prompt, because the file has not been downloaded yet.  That's IE's job so that's how
it does it, with a prompt.  But then since there is a filetype association for the .doc extension when I choose Open no more intervention is required (although as the prompt notes "The file won't be saved automatically." so if a user tries to update it,
e.g. a Word document or a spreadsheet, anything they do would only be preserved if they did a File Save As... or whatever those applications provide for that use case.)
In fact, that warning is probably the main reason for the prompt when such an explicit Open command... Read more

It's happening in IE, but the solutions I've seen on the net all say it's a windows registry issue so I wasn't sure if I should post here or in the windows help forum. I tried to search these forums and came up with a "Fatal error yada yada yada".

How do you disable the prompt "Do you want to open or save this file?" I need to listen to a lot (dozens) of small audio clips (mp3) on the web and it would go a lot faster if that dialog box didn't come up every time I clicked the link to the mp3. I want it to just open the file when I click on it instead of asking what I want to do.

Thanks ahead of time for your help. I have a project to complete and having to click Open every single time is just slowing me down so much.

I understand there have been a few people who have asked this, but I can't seem to find a definite answer on this.
1. Can this be disabled?
2. If not, why not? What is the security feature or concept behind this prompt making it not possible to to be turned off?
3. If this can't be turned off, what do Microsoft recommend to customers in enterprise environments who have this requirement?  An e.g. is, a SAP database user who regularly has to download numerous pdf/docx files, but this prompt only
makes the user environment worse. It sure is very much understandable that regularly downloading files from a particular link, becomes annoying to the user if he/she has to click this prompt every time.
Thanks & Regards,

A:IE9 : Do you want to Open or Save this file prompt

What I observed is when IE8 is upgraded to IE9, this issue is not experienced. In IE8 There used to be a key called HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\AttachmentExecute\{0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
which stored the File Types that could either Auto-Open or not. This Key is not created in IE9, likely so as to support the policy of not auto-opening any file extensions but I believe is migrated along when IE8 is upgraded. This Key can be added
to the registry and IE9 still reads and applies settings associated with it.
Whichever File Type you need to Auto-open, simply add a Zero Length Binary value by its name. I have added AcroPDF.PDF and AcroPDF.PDF.1 with Zero Length Binary values to auto
open PDF files. These key values can either be manually added to the registry OR deployed using group policie preferences, and then the user is able to Auto-Open the PDF documents in the browser in this example. the same can be applied to .docx,
.ppt file types, etc.
Hope this helps many who are searching for this solution.

This is my maven repository site(used in application development). If I hit this in browser, I am getting response from this site. But the URL while accessing in command prompt(application) i am getting connection refused.

When i analyses the situation; I found only this particular site, HTTP port(i.e. 80) was disabled. If telnet for the same site. I am getting "Connection refused" error. like telnet repo.maven.apache.org 80

If i try with other site with port 80, say for an example; telnet google.com 80. It works. i am getting positive response.

In home network(open internet), everything fine. No issues.

So why this particular site alone HTTP port was blocked only command prompt NOT in entire system? Is that possible to block alone in command prompt ? what would be the root cause?

A:Unable to access internet site in command prompt.

You really need to contact the corporate IT staff about this. Only they will have the knowledge of the network necessary to understand the situation.

Good evening, everyone.

I'm not sure how I did it, but it seems I've accidentally disabled the prompt to save attachments that appears when double-clicking them in an e-mail, and am unable to re-enable it.

I've scoured the internet for a possible solution, and I'm at a loss.

My computer runs Windows 7, so the method using the Folder Options > File Type tab is not available.

I've also tried editing my registry to no avail.

If anyone knows of another method to re-enable this prompt, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

A:Re-enable save prompt for attachments (Outlook 2010)

I have seen this before, someone clicks the do not show this dialog again, and it is gone. Getting it back was easy in XP, but in Vista and after I always see (often different) instructions for registry edits. Which is no doubt what you tried?

Ask again before opening | MSOutlook.info

Launch Registry Editor (Start >> Run >> regedit.exe)
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ Shell \ AttachmentExecute \ {0002DF01-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Delete any registry values that exist
Re-launch IE and test – you should now get prompted to open or save for all file types

If no success, and not an answer, but a workaround, right click the attachment will get you the options you seek.

So I supidly pressed the tick box where it asked me whether I wanted to, be each time i opened a rar file, be asked whether to save or open the file. Now everytime I open a .rar file it bypasses the 'do you want to save or open file?' and automatically saves and opens the file using the rar program thing. Only I dont want to buy it, and as I've exeeded the 'evaluation' period this screen keeps appearing asking me to by it blah blah. So my question is:
How do I restore this option?
Thanks a bunch!

A:Restoring the prompt 'Do you want to save or open this file?' box option

Open any folder with Windows Explorer or open My Computer, and then click on Tools in the menu bar and subsequently Folder Options in the drop down menu. Alternatively, go to Control Panel and select Folder Options.

In the Folder Options dialog, select File Types tab. This tab lists every file type associated with Windows and may take a while to open.

Locate and highlight (select) the file type or extension that you want to revert back the file download behavior to ask for open or save confirmation and stop the automatic opening or saving of downloaded file.
Click on Advanced button. You have to log on or login on user account with Administrator or Power User privileges to use this function.
In the Edit File Type window, clear (untick) the Confirm open after download check box.

Click OK when done.
Repeat the procedure for other filetype and ext that you want to change back to normal default.

Whenever I try to save my BIOS it prompts up saying "Do you want to save & exit BIOS? Y/N" Like usual.

However, when I press enter to do so, it just hangs.

I've tried everything I could possibly think of; Rebooting, clearing the CMOS jumper, switched the CMOS battery. Nothing.

A:BIOS/CMOS Save & Exit prompt hangs.

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Please would you take a few moments to read this post. A message for all newcomers. Thanks.

What are you trying to change in bios? Does this problem occure no matter what you change?

Does your computer boot into Windows ok?

Have you considered flashing your bios to the latest version?

You can get the flashing software from your mobo manufacturers website. If you decide to do this. Make sure you follow the instructions exactly.

Ok, so I had this annoying problem with firefox 8, and upgrading to vers. 9 still didn't solve anything...I haven't asked about this till now because I'm usually quite patient about this kinda stuff, but now I would really like this matter to be done with!

Before you start typing about "about:config" and browser.tabs.warnOnClose, browser.warnOnQuit, browser.showQuitWarning (also browser.warnOnRestart)...I'd like you to know these preferences are already set to true as you can see for yourselfs:

What am I missing here? thanks.

A:[SOLVED] Firefox 9 still doesn’t prompt to save tabs on exit

ok, I don't know if this is important... but as it is now, when I hit the close button (red x) firefox closes like any normal window but when I reopen it i find all my previous tabs, (just like they were before closing)...so basically it does save them when I close, but it just doesn't "ask" me if I want this or not. Hope this helps.

I sometimes copy/move multiple files + folders within WinExplorer by Drag&Drop to another folder
where these files & folder already exist (as an older version with the same name).

Then always a popup prompt appears aksing me if I want to
- replace the old existing files
- cancel the operation
- rename the new files/folders

More annoying is this little checkbox at the lower left corner which needs to be ticked when I want to apply this rule to all current file+folder operations.

How can I ALWAYS automatically let the checkbox be enabled BY DEFAULT for all future operations?

I do not think that there are any settings within Windows 7 that will check those boxes by default.

You can install AutoIt3 from here:
Right click on the desktop and select New > AutoIt v3 Script from the context menu.

Then right click on the newly created file and select Edit Script from the context menu.

Copy/paste the info below into the newly created file:

Save that file.
Move it to the Startup folder.

Is there any way to Auto save passwords for sites in IE without having to click the remember button? Like, is there a way to configure my IE to just autommatically save user/pass info for every site that I log into? I have yet been able to figure this out, and I have accounts for tons of sites and never remember to click the "remember" button and constantly have to reset my pass, which makes it even harder. If there was a way to auto save, so when I go to a site, I can look it up in a password protected folder, that would be great. Is that possible?

FYI-No one else uses my pc, and I live alone, so no one elses passwords would be being stored.

Whenever I boot up my pc I get a prompt to update my windows 7 codecs, which when I click yes takes me to http://www.windows7codecs.com/. The site was listed as unsafe a few days ago (not anymore though), and attempting to download the .exe file still causes chrome to auto-cancel it saying it might be malicious. Is this malware? Whenever I tell the update prompt to not remind me again it just pops up the next day again, which makes me think it is, but I've scanned with Microsoft security essentials, malwarebytes and adwcleaner and none of them found anything.

Use CCleaner to remove Temporary files, program caches, cookies, logs, etc. Use the Default settings. No need to use the
Registry Cleaning Tool...risky. Pay close attention while installing and UNcheck offers of toolbars....especially Google.
After install, open CCleaner and run by clicking on the Run Cleaner button in the bottom right corner.
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
Open CCleaner and click on Tools. Choose Startups. On that page you will see a list of Windows Startups and at the top you will see tabs for your browsers
and Scheduled Tasks. At the bottom right you will see a button when clicked will allow you to Copy and Paste the list of Windows Startups into your next post.
Do the same for Scheduled Tasks after clicking on that Tab.

I have looking at my network shield in Avast! Pro. I've noticed that whenever I open save file prompt I see spike.
It does not indicate infection and just goes on, is this stuff normal?

Malwarebytes doesn't see anything wrong. I generally get a spike precedes the 127... spike

Avast boot scan also finds nothing
Typing into Run gets "Bad Request - Invalid Hostname

HTTP Error 400. The request hostname is invalid."
Can anyone else on Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit try this for themselves?

Open a save file prompt and look at your network shield at the same time and see if that connection or a similar connection shows up.

I don't seem to have any weird issues otherwise.

I have attached the DDS stuff

I have two problems with Word 2003.

First, regardless of any changes made to a document, when I close the application I do not get a prompt asking if I want to save the changes.

Second, I cannot open more than one document at a time. If I have a document open, and I try to open a second document, it flashes the second document on the screen briefly and then closes it, leaving me with my first document open. There are no windows minimized to the taskbar, and there are no documents (other than the first document I opened) listed in the Window menu of Word.

I have installed all updates and service packs (both for Office 2003 and for Windows XP), and I am not using any 3rd party add-ins. I even tried uninstalling all Office related applications and reinstalling. No dice.

This has been going on for quite some time now, and I cannot find ANY information that seems to relate. I am begging for help here, so anything is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

. o O (I was having the same problem with 2007, but I uninstalled it. I'll get 2003 working properly FIRST, then wrestle with 2007.)
