Q: Requesting a english-french dictionary software for Win XP~~

Preferred Solution: Requesting a english-french dictionary software for Win XP~~

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Issue since moving from IE9 to IE11 in the office

I've changed the Language Preference on IE11 to add both of them, English by default
Microsoft Office is already set to use both language

Although using Internet Explorer, we are having an issue where it only seem to spell check one language, giving errors when typing words in the other language.

Read on the internet some people that added both language in the keyboard layout, but that's not an interesting solution because first the French keyboard layout does all the English keys and second people tend to accidentaly switch language while typing
using shortcut or whatever

Any help regarding this issue would be appreciated

I am considering implementing an algorithm to solve a combinatoric puzzle involving word lookups in a dictionary, so I need dictionary software on my computer (WinXP Pro SP2 | Linux) that supports a programmable C/C++ interface for lookup of English words and either returns a successful lookup or a result indicating that no such word exists.

Ideally the dictionary should conform to Merriam-Websters 11th Collegiate Dictionary in terms of the words contained within the dictionary (don't know how may words or how big that is) - but that can be for a final release of the software, so initially, I suppose almost any available freeware dictionary software of a reasonable size (>50,000 words) would probably do to develop a beta release.

Anyone know of any such software out there?

-- Tom

P.S. There are approximately 1.3 million possible lookups, of which, I estimate there are probably less than 1,000 actual words that would result in a successful lookup - and due to the constraints on the problem, at least an order of magnitude or less of which could solve the puzzle.

So I just installed Microsoft Office 2007 (minus Outlook because I use OE) on my new laptop and because of a screwup by M$, the spellcheck in OE can only use the French dictionary! Wah--?! I've tried changing the default to English only in Word, but it didn't matter. I looked it up and found this option:http://www.outlook-tips.net/archives/2006/20061228.htmIf you install Office 2007, spell checking in Outlook Express may not work as expected, unless you want spell check in French. This is because Office 2007 uses new proofing tools and OE can't use them because it's designed to use the older tools. It's easy to fix: install just the proofing tools from your previous version of Office (using the custom install option). You can get them from any older Office suite or application - including FrontPage, Publisher or standalone versions of Word, Excel, or Outlook. To install just the proofing tools from Office 2003, run Office setup and choose the custom option. Uncheck all programs in the list and add a check to choose the options at the bottom of the programs list. No the nest screen, set each top level item to be Not Available (red X icon). Expand the Office Shared Features branch and locate Proofing tools in the list. Expand proofing tools and choose English, setting it to Run from my computer. Finish the installation.Once installed, restart OE - go to Tools, Options and verify Spelling is configured to use the correct English dictionary.I still have Office 2003 on... Read more

A:Oe Can Only Use French Dictionary For Spellcheck From Office 2007

I have office 2007 professional completely installed including Outlook. I still use OE and have no problem with the dictionary at all. My solution to the problem is I also have word from office XP installed and OE uses the proofing tools from that. The 3rd party spell checker you have should work fine. If you want to fix it without using 3rd party software install word from office 2003 that you have and use that instead of word 2007. You don't have to uninstall word 2007 for this to work just don't use it as the rest of office 2007 may need word 2007 to function.
Anyway, if you fix it my way or additional spell checker way, It'll be fine.

Hope that helps!

For reasons I am far from clear about, my Microsoft Outlook is currently stuck on using French as the default for the dictionary spellcheck function. Looking under the Tools option under Email shows the dictionary, but shows French as the only language option. On my version at work, the pulldown shows about a half dozen selection options - including the option for English.

I saw at least a couple of other postings that directly or indirectly reference this same problem, however the solutions posted do not really address the underlying cause of the poblem, but instead reference readers to the think about using the free SpellChecker for Outlook. I've got no problems with this as an alternate solution, but I was just wondering if anyone had trailed up into a possible solution at the primary software application level?

A:Solved: Outlook Dictionary Stuck on French

Is this Outlook or Outlook Express? If this is Outlook Express this is a known issue for which Microsoft has decided not to fix and your only solution is indeed to install a third party spell check. This happens when you install Office 2007. The spell newe check is incompatible with Outlook Express.

A:installing english xp on a french xp pc

Hi soapy

You will need to reformat unless there is a large enough unpartitioned space on HD and you want to keep the french version. Since the default on install is the whole drive, I doubt this would be the case. A clean install is the best option and is not very difficult. Remember that doing this will wipe the HD clean so if there is anything important on the drive you will need to save it, and make sure it would work with english version. Just follow the steps Here under Perform a clean install of Windows XP.

A:Switch Windows XP language from French to English

The problem is that there is no ?switch? to change the language. You can change the keyboard layout but not the language of Windwos itself. In such cases you have to make a new and clean installation of Windows using installation disk.

I don?t know what notebook you have exactly but all drivers and tools for your Toshiba notebook you can find on Toshiba homepage.

By the way: If you install XP, I would recommend Service Pack 3. It contains important security updates.

We are having a strange intermittent problem here. We have XP Pro, and Office 2003, with templates created for our people to use with Word. These are basic templates for faxing, letters, etc. but with our very plain text logo on them. Everyone uses them, but for a couple of them, their spell-checker comes up in French. This only happens on the company templates and not to everyone. I've checked all the language settings and made sure they were set to English, but it still happens. I open the same template on my computer and all is fine. So it seems to be machine specific problem. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Thank-you, I've learned a lot from reading here. It's a fabulous resource!!!

Hi Redsox2004,

Word documents, and different parts of a document, may be set in a different language (Tools / Set Language) than your default .

If you have copied from other documents then the copied text may be in another language.

You can set the text to not check spelling if it is causing you a problem, e.g. if you do not have the dictionary loaded for the language required. (same Tools / Set Language option).

You can see the language any text has been set in by looking in the status bar at the bottom of your screen.

hi,i'm looking to make a dictionary, or rather a math dictionary and would like to have any input on some good software that would be able to do this.first prize would be if it was free but all suggestions are good.and maybe i'm dreaming but would like it to be able to take in words and definitions then automatically split the word list into pages. AND if we go back and add a word, the program would then automaticaly adjust all pages accordingly.thanks in advance

A:Dictionary Software

I am not sure precisely what your requirements are. Does the programme perform a search of something, understand what it is looking for, and then automatically include it in the dictionary? What form(s) would the potential output to take (how would it be used)?
If you are willing to manually imput the word and the definition, and are not overly fussy about the output's form, for example, any database or spreadsheet application, if properly set up, should be able to hold these two fields, sort the data alphabetically upon demand, and then format the information to a second file or to a document for end-use.

I've got an electronic dictionary which is supposed to a) sync with my PC so I can sync outlook and b) connect to my PC via USB so that I can download updates direct to the dictionary.

I am running Windows XP, have installed the driver for the dictionary and installed the PC Sync software. However, when I try to run the software, I get an error message saying 'Fail to open database', so I can't acces the dictionary from my PC.

When the dictionary is connected to my PC, it is recognised as an electronic dictionary but not as a removable drive.

As well as trying to run from the CD, I have also downloaded the software from the manufacturer just in case it is more up to date - but it still doesn't work. It is supposed to be compatible with English Windows XP.

Does anybody know how I can fix this problem - or am I being really stupid???? I have already asked the supplier and also asked the manufacturer and am getting pretty frustrated.

I've attached the link to the software.
