I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello , I have a Dell Inspiron 530 running Windows Vista Home. I am trying to access the system BIOS and it has a red password log in screen. I tried to guess and enter several log in passwords including  the word DELL and none of them worked. I didn't want to enter too many wrong passwords because I didn't know if the system would lock me out. Can anyone help me by pass the BIOS log in password or some how disable it ? I have a VN7-572G. The presented BIOS settings are sort of lackluster for a gaming laptop and I know what I'm doing enough to tinker with more advanced settings. I've examined the BIOS for this laptop and there are a ton of locked-away settings. Unfortunately, there is some sort of BIOS security implemented that prevents me from just flashing a modified BIOS onto this laptop. Is there perhaps some sort of way to officially access more advanced settings or any way of requesting one from Acer?

Hey folks,I got my T61 last week and been very happy so far. I installed Windows yesterday and did all the updates and driver installation with the automated Matrix program (not sure what it's called). One of the updates was a BIOS update.I tried to access my BIOS afterwards and it asked me for a password (it has never done that before the update). I never set one, so I just tried to hit enter and to double check also my usual computer password (I set that for Windows but not for BIOS, I just wanted to double check). Now I can't access my computer nor my BIOS anymore.Any idea what I can do? I am sure I never entered a password and so I am pretty frustrated. Thank you. Robert

You need to provide more information before one could suggest anything concrete. However, here are some generic suggestions. Is the machine totally dead?Take it to service. It starts up and then acts up asking for password. If you have set up password recovery in ThinkVantage Security Solution, you could recover the password. You may have to use ThinkVantage Blue button at the start up.Have you made Windows Password Recovery disk? This would help you recover windows passwordAs last resort try to set to factory setting and re-install to original setup. But before that go to service, particularly if the machine is under warranty.

Hello all,

I've read a lot of similar threads, all of which either failed to work for me, took me to the incorrect screen(s), or were way over my head in computer terminology. I am trying to find a way to alter my BIOS and increase the Dedicated VRam for my Graphics Card so that I can meet the Recommended requirements to run The Elder Scrolls Online MMO. Here's where my problem starts:

I am unable to find the correct key or key combination to access my BIOS files. I am able to access the Boot Menu via pressing the DELETE key, and the CMOS menu by repeatedly pressing the Space Bar. The former menu is blatantly incorrect, and the latter menu does not give me the ability to change what it is I'm looking for (or anything to do with the memory, for that matter, save voltage and frequency). What's more, there is NO "Press this key for Setup" or any variation of that during my boot-up. And, yes, I've checked it frame-by-frame using a fast-paced select/deselect sequence of the Pause-Break button. It simply isn't there.

Is this a fool's quest? Is CMOS the best I can manage with my current computer? My current desktop specs are listed in my profile section - I added them immediately to ease this process. My computer is barely a 2 year old, and it set me back over $1100 when I had it made; I would hate to have to start over so soon!

If anyone can help me with this, please, do so. I'm no programmer, by far, but I am capable of following detailed instructions, so ... Read more

A:Difficulties Accessing BIOS to Alter Dedicated VRam

I don't think Nvidia GTS 450 is an on-board GPU, and I can't see anything in motherboard support site either. You won't find any way to change dedicated memory in BIOS.

Check your motherboard manual's BIOS section for which key to press to enter BIOS.

You can just get a newer GPU like GTX960 which will be a good upgrade. But I will let others to comment.

Edit: By the way, these are the minimum requirement for Elder Scrolls Online

Quote:
Minimum System Requirements
Operating System: Windows XP 32-bit
Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor
Memory: 2GB System RAM
Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
Video Card: DirectX 9.0 compliant video card with 512MB of RAM (NVIDIA? GeForce? 8800 / ATI Radeon™ 2600 or better)
Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

Your GPU should be able to run it. Try reducing the graphical options.

Hello everyone, how are you?I was wondering if anyone knows how i can increase the VRAM, of my PC. Apparently, to run some applications ( and games ), i need more than the default 32MB VRAM. I was happy to notice that I can do some computation intensive work rather comfortably with this machine but a little depressed when it couldnt run a few applications that Laptops with 4gb ram and about 300GB hard disk space could run with ease. My graphics card is about 4gb, i think, 1TB disk space and 32 GB RAM but the computer lags when running some games and does not open some games and applications at all. I find this rather strange. Any solutions or suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello. I'm hoping this is the right forum for this, so here's my question. How do I increase the amount of shared video memory on my pc? I have an HP Pavilion sv5 Notebook.AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile ZM-80 2.1 GHz4 GB of ramVista 64bit I have an ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics Card with 256 MB of dedicated memory. The PC specs under properties say 1918 MB video memory is available. I of course don't want to raise it quite that high, I just want to increase the video memory to 512, doubling the dedicated amount. I followed a few walkthroughs on using the BIOS interface to increase the allocated video memory, but the interface screen I was getting and the screenshots on the walkthrough were slightly different, and I couldn't pinpoint the method. Could anyone assist me on this? Perhaps I'm going about it the wrong way with Vista64. Any help is greatly appreciated.

A:Increasing allocated video memory through BIOS?

You cannot do anything with it and you do not need to. Your video system permanently grabs a specific amount of system memory for video (say 256 megs) and then it can pull additional memory from Windows as needed up to some silly amount as you say. So if you ever are doing anything that requires filling up 512 megs with video data, your system will do it on the fly. You likely do not need 512 of video memory very often, if ever, even if you are trying to play games. The onboard video just is not powerful enough to pump pixels through the system fast enough to need such a big reservoir (video memory). Consumers still seem to equate the raw amount of video memory with video performance and it has gotten way more complex that, but manufacturers still try to dazzle and confuse with claims of large amounts of video memory as if that makes a gaming system. No matter how much memory you give it, an integrated or onboard video system is still vastly inferior to a true dedicated video memory system.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... No, that is NOT the fastest computer to game on.  Here is a little primer ... E series devices are 'Entry level' products, designed for the casual user who wants to do the basics at a reasonable price.  These models are not targeted at heavy users like gamers, photo editors, video makers, etc.  For big time gaming power, take a look at the Predator line.  Now THAT is a gaming platform!
