X1 Extreme new Bios and CPU performance drop

Q: X1 Extreme new Bios and CPU performance drop

Last Dec I received my X1 extreme unit: i7 8750H processor . After repasting and a little of bit of stable undervolting (-138,7 mV) I've got 1253 score in CPU CINEBENCH R15 under 1.15 BIOS. As the versions of X1E BIOS progress, I'm experiencing performance drops in CPU synthetic benchmarks. Now I'm hitting around 1150 cb using 1.21 BIOS, a 8% of performance drop from that showed under the stock BIOS. Are you experiencing something like this with your X1E units?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First of all my specs:
Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.10GHz
Memory 8GB , Corsair
GeForce 9800 GT
Windows 7 x64

I've had my computer for a couple years. I built it myself. I've had no "major" issues until this. I am a gamer and have never had issues running any game with my current system. Now all of a sudden I go from playing something like World of Warcraft 30-60 fps (ranging from idle to 25 man raiding) with moderate to high graphics settings. Now my fps is dropping to 5 fps with lowest settings and while just standing around. This isn't constant, its intermittent. So I can't tell exactly what the issue it. I recently did a reformat of my Hard Drive so everything is fresh. The problem started shortly after doing this. All drivers are up to day as well.

Download the latest driver from here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/62791. Chose the "Custom Install" option. Then check the box that says "Clean Install". Proceed with the installation.

Alright, I'll start off by warning you that this is a real head-scratcher. I've been working on this for a couple of months on and off, and I cannot seem to even determine the cause of the problem, much less a solution. Also, apologies if my post jumps around a lot, there's a lot of stuff and I don't know how to properly organize it.

Right, so the problem is this: In select games, moving the mouse causes an extreme FPS drop. Like, the game will visibly freeze until you stop moving the mouse. It doesn't seem to be a problem with RAM or the Video card, because as long as you're not moving the mouse, the game(s) run(s) perfectly fine with full FPS.

Two games I've noted the problem in are, Minecraft and Insaniquarium Deluxe (Wut? An ancient 2D game causes this? Obviously can't be a problem with RAM, then, right?) I understand Minecraft can be a resource hog at times, but I can run in any direction with no FPS lag at all without moving the mouse. The ... Read more

He there, I am using this machine since 3 weeks now and discovered a problem withing the CPU power limit while running a game or othter graphical demanding tasks. After running a programme the machine runs just fine, but then the power limit suddenly drops to 15 Watt and it becomes extremely slow. It does not matter which lenovo vantage power state I use. I observed it with MSI afterburner.  I saw youtube videos of the exact same machine just holing on to 30 Watt no problems. Is there anything wrong with my unit?Best regards

Over the last couple of months, my computer has slowly been declining in performance. I am running Windows 8.1, but got Upgrade media online (BIG MISTAKE). Anyways, I can't restore, refresh, or do anything for my system. Therefore, I need to remove the lag manually. The lag began a little while after my battery died (I didn't bother to get a replacement, maybe that's it?) and I have no idea what's causing it.

I've tried replacing my video driver, and when I restart the computer, it seems to fix the problem, but after restarting it again, the problem is back in full force.

When I check Task Manager, everything is fine, I'm using very little of my CPU, and my memory is less than halfway taken up.

So, what I really need is for people to ask me questions, I'm at the end of my wits and looking at buying a new computer, but I've only had this one for a couple years. It's a Dell Latitude with a second-gen i5 processor.

Thanks for the help!

A:Extreme Performance Decline

how do you know the performance is declining ?
what are the symptoms

Whats the LAG specifically

Have you removed the battery completely ?

when you look at taskmanger and startups - do you have a lot of unnecessary programs in startup ?

how much ram is installed ?

I'm running on a windows XPS M1730 laptop (the really really big one)

Running on windows vista Service Pack 1
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU, T9500 @2.60 GHz
4 GB ram
NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT Video card with which my drivers are all updated on as well.
(Any other specs needed just ask and I'll dig them up)

My performance when running games has been complete garbage lately. When I first got this laptop about a year and a half ago it could run games such as Company of Heroes, World in Conflict, Shattered Horizons, Left 4 Dead, Dragon Age with little to no issues. Little by little the performance has been decreasing, however. I can't watch videos higher than standard definition because the video freezes up as well. I'm THINKING it's a heat related issue and my hardware is just sort of decaying because my screen completely fuzzed out in pixles one night when playing a game (fixed after a restart).

This inspired me to clean my laptop out intensely. I virus scanned with AVG, spybot checked and cleaned up all issues. Deleted tens of gigs worth of old games I hardly play anymore, defragmented, disk cleanup'd etc. After this the laptop ran smoothly again, I could watch fight club in 720p and all my game were good. Now out of the blue it's back to running like crap and I can't figure out why. Spybot and AVG are picking up nothing, there's nothing on the disk to cleanup and I find it hard to believe that I need to defragment again after 24 hours. Any insight on what may be wrong... A:Performance Drop

When you did the Disc Cleanup did you delete all but the latest System Retore point (in the more options TAB)?
System restore points chew up large chunks of HDD very quickly so you have to do regular clean ups or reduce the System restore area size.
I'd also apply SP2, check the paging file size and run CHKDSK.
You could also download Treesize Free and check to see whta is chewing up HDD space:

I just formatted this computer a little under two months ago when I went on break from College. It use to generally respond instnatly, but now, opening programs can cause a serious delay in anything for up to ten minutes before reponsiveness returns. Aside from that, performance for just about anything (including games) has gone down. I tried a defrag and several other steps to check what was going on, but it still exhibits these symptoms.Aside from that, I'm not sure to what impact it is, but the GPU is constant at around 70-72 Celsius when idling. From research, isn't that usually suppose to be around 30-32 Celsius? Either way.. If you can't find anything wrong, I'll continue to try and check my hardware. I've done several scans of it, installed several programs (prior to the hijackthis log and to all the steps in the preparation guide.) to check my nvidia card. Edit: Also discovered internal temperature is at 105 Celsius if that has any bearing. However, this reading is from SpeedFan, and research says that this rather a negative reading method. However, being that the GPU is up at 70 Celsius average, combined with everything else..Basically: Performance has sloooowed way down. So I noticed this performance drop whenever I'm playing games or running programs such as Photoshop, iTunes, etc. Base speed 1.8, overclocked is 2.4 Ghz but this is dropping so hard at 0.7 Ghz and when this happens, audio from VLC or any music running at that time will be stuttering. I right-click desktop and hit refresh many times until it went back up to 2.4 Ghz. This is so annoying because when I'm playing games like LoL or CSGO, the fps will drop from 150+ to 20-30 fps, totally unplayable. Have to quit game and right-click desktop, refresh many times before speed comes back up. Any ideas/solution?

I've suddenly got a steep proformance drop that makes playing all my games pretty much impossible.
It usually states when I'm playing MW2. I turn on the game and have no performance issues. I enter a game and no performance issues. The game starts and no performance issues. It's only until around 5-10 minutes in that I experience the performance drop. When that happens, I can't do anything except to hope that the performance goes back up again. Reducing the resolution does not help. Changing my graphics card from quality based to proformance based does not help. Increasing my performance vs power saving does not help. I'm not running any other programs that are using up all the space (How would I? you can't even tab out of MW2 while you're playing it). Restarting the computer also does not help.

Worse still, this performance drop also affects everything else randomly as well.
I really don't know what I can do.
This has happened before, but not for this long.

I bought a ThinkPad X1 Extreme and I've been using it since nearly two weeks now. However, it doesn't feel so.Cold boot (restart) takes usually from 15s to 20s. Normal boot (Windows fast start-up) is taking from 10s to 15s. Wake up from sleep also takes long, nearly 10s. The screen needs 5s to go from black (with the power button led still flashing) to login screen and from there it takes another 5s to activate biometrics (fingerprint and Windows Hello), verify identity and then enter desktop.Word and Excel need 2s to open (wich is 1s more than a 4 years old ASUS laptop I was using before, with way worse specs).Matlab R2106a requires an outstanding 40s to open, while on an old MacBook Pro only needs 15s. VirtualBox needs 7s to open and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS from VirtualBox took nearly 1 full minute to show the login screen. Plugging the AC cable does make some difference, however not so much for heavy software like Matlab (30s with AC). And all this was with max performance mode setted within Windows and also Lenovo Vantage utility software.  I don't think it's something hardware related, since Cinebench is giving me 1365 cb with Windows increased battery mode and 2178 cb with AC plugged in and max performance mode. I've been told that there are some new "ultra-fast" drives now available based on the Flash solid state technology.

One example is the Patriot Extreme Performance Warp 64GB SSD 2.5" SATA I/II V2, 170MB/s Read, 100MB/s Write

I've been told that these drives are limited in size - for example this one is only 64GB but it reads at 170MB/s and writes at 100MB/s.

Is this really much faster than a normal 7200 rpm SATA hard drive? I love speed and would be happy to pay the $200 CDN price they are asking despite the small size if it really is all that much faster.

But the specs I see for ordinary 7200 rpm SATA hard drive (approx 500GB) list their speed around 100 MB/s.

So, what's going on? Are these new solid state drives really much faster than the SATA 7200 rpm drives? If they are approx twice as fast or so, then I'd be happy to buy one. But if they are only slightly faster, then I won't bother.

Can anyone give me the lowdown on these things?

A:Looking for help with Patriot Extreme Performance Drives

From what I've seen and read, they are about the equivilent of 2 WD raptors running a RAID 0. If you have the 500GB seagate with 32mb cache Ive seen benchmarks that score those higher then raptors in some instances, but I still think raptors are faster for everyday use. The nice thing about the drive is that since it compares with having a raid 0 on the fastest sata drives available, you could have the performance without the worries that are involved with a RAID 0. I would suggest watching a couple videos and making up your mind based off those. Don't get tricked by the ones that have it running against 5400rpm drives on laptops though.

might sound like a really dumb thing to check but is your sata cable ok? some boards come with different cables for sata 3 connections for example asus come with a black and white cable that has sata 600/ sata 3 on them.

i'm not sure how much of a difference they make if any but just a thought.

Also installed nvidia experience and updated the driver there, ran all windows updates too. Still same very bad performance. The keyboard and mouse was so bad im just going to trow it away.. Other than that the x1 looks extremely good, and feels really premium, the thinkvision screen looks awesome as well. i guess im going tro try and install a few games next, too see if it is the gfx card making the problems. I did not try updating the intel gfx card, but i guess windows update should do this? anyone got any ideas? best regardsMolteberg

Hi All,

In desperation I've had to post here.

Since the first install this Windows 7 I have installed has been doing crazy things.

The mouse icon goes about 900 x speed, which I thought was weird, but it turns out everything clock related also goes at 900 x speed. Such as system clock, those animated gifs to my right, or any animated type stuff.

The clock itself in the bottom right goes increbily fast, and my system goes to sleep mode if unattended for like 1 minute. It's crazy! I've spent ages on google looking for fixes and the best it's thrown up is disabling HD AUDIO which I have done!!!

It's driving me insane and I've spent a large amount of cash on this machine! Arrgh! I suspect it may have a hand in not letting me connect to a wireless network as well!

Its an Athlon2 triple Core AM3, 4gb RAM on an ASUS motherboard.

Hi, All those processes are normal and correspond to applications or drivers you are using....Kaspersky Internet Security, for one....things you need.

I am not sure why you cannot access msconfig to change startups, maybe it was a benefit as you can do some damage turning off things without any idea what they are....
You have had a Norton (Symantec) program before, possibly Norton Antivirus....I see the Live Update from it is still listed....does any Norton program still remain in use on the computer?

If not, I suggest Uninstalling Live Update in your Add/Remove programs list from the Control Panel....see if that works.

Post back if it does not show in that list or you cannot make it Uninstall.
also, please do this:
Open Hijack This and click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button.
Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.
Click the "Save List" button. After you click the "Save List" button, you will be asked where to save the file.
Pick a place to save it then the list should open in notepad.
Copy and paste that list in a reply.

Hello guys, I'm new here

I have an Acer VN7-591G Aspire V Nitro Black Edition, and for the past years, I been having a problem with CPU fan that triggers randomly (while playing games or in idle) and when that happens CPU performace drops drastically (becomes almost inusable). Might add that I have a cooler and it shouldnt be because of overheat issues.

The Laptop is 3 years old and I never did a clean up or anything.
I sent it to the store where I bought it (one of the biggest tech sellers of my country, Worten - I live in Portugal).

After 1 week of waiting they told me the problem is caused by the OS and of the clean up, and wants to charge me 150 euros for both.

But as a geek and a computer enthusiast myself, I'm pretty much scheptical about the OS part, since the problem also happens when am on BIOS or when I boot from a pendrive a Linux distro.

Should I trust them and pay for their cleanup + OS chance? (Also considering putting a SSD), or they are just trying to play me as a fool?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for long post or if I didnt follow any particular rule.

So my Windows Vista seems to getting a performance drop every minute or so. At first I thought it was the infamous 'Vista trying to find a better wireless networks' but I've tested it wired, with the wireless card disabled and the service disabled. I try wireless/wired/offline and still I get the performance drop. Next I try and see if anything is hogging the CPU&memory but when the lag occurs there isn't any significant change.

So now I try and kill any unnecessary processes and services to see if anything was slowing it down.. I managed to get down to the bare essentials (Heh, not even having sound or explorer.exe) but it still manages to lag on half life.

I made sure my powerplan was set to high performance (Tried it on balanced/powersaver, same result)

I scanned for viruses using Avast! but nothing came up.. perhaps I should try it with another Anti virus :/

I really don't know whats happening.. whatever it is, it's stopping me from playing games, watching films and all sorts >.<

Help please? :)

Hi, I have a very frustrating issue on my PC. Games performance drops whenever I play it for 10-20 minutes. It varies, e.g. when I play watch dogs, it stutters after playing for 15 minutes. GTA IV lags and stutters after playing for 10 minutes. However there are also games that do not experience lag, or the performance drops very little. For example: Battlefield 4 (ultra settings), ARMA III (when i adjust the view distance slider all the way max, it lags after playing 10 minutes). During the lag moment, for games that lag, when i set the resolution from 1080p to 720p, they don't lag before 5 minutes. After that, they lag. So please any help would be appreciated, and thanks

I just purchased the 120 GB hard drive a few days ago and decided to do a complete wipe of my old hard drive and instal the OS on the new one. I did this and everything works great. I have all the current drivers and such but I have one huge problem. The system can barely play games at the level I could on the old HDD. I got a 939 in PCMark 06!!!. It is riduculous. I found a link to a thread with people having problems with this board and AGP cards. However I followed their instructions but to no avail. After looking at my PCMark 06 test results I saw that it listed my videocards core clock speed at 10mhz, yet the actual clock speed listed in the nVidia tab is 325mhz. I'm wondering what could be wrong...

A:Horrible drop in performance

did you check to see what AGP speed your card is operating at? also if the board has had alot of problmes then it is very likely there are bios updates available that address those problems.

I have been struggling with this problem for a while and now I am at my wits end about it. For a while now my computer has had major drop in performance to the point of freezing up. Usually I notice it when gaming so I thought it was a hardware problem. I no longer think that is the case.
I have checked the temps when the problem occurs and they seem to be good.
The funny thing is that these drops always seem to happen on the hour. I don't know if it is every hour but it does occur several times a day.
Anyone have any thoughts on what this could be?

A:Performance drop on the hour

Do you have any applications such as Antivirus or Antimalware apps running that do hourly updates? On the hour slowdowns sounds like you have some sort of 'polling' application running that 'calls' home. That's my initial thought without additional information.

Just yesterday I noticed that my Windows experience index scored my processor at a 2.9 when it has always been way higher than that. It caused me to investigate and download a program called CPUID to see how my processor was actually running, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it to go higher than 800MHz. As of recent my laptop has been getting extremely hot and sometimes overheating and shutting down (even though I can hear the fan running)... Is it possible that my computer is running so hot that it's attempting to protect itself from overheating by locking my computer to run no higher than 800Mhz?

So I upgraded to Windows 8 64bit a month ago, and my gaming performance has dropped ever since then. I have a gt650M, so I know that isn't a problem. I didn't do a clean install; I did the upgrade via the assistant. For instance, Just Cause 2 stutters, whereas in 7 it didn't. My nVidia drivers are up to date as well. This is really irritating me. Any suggestions?

A:Windows 8 Performance Drop

Have you updated all your mobo drivers and your BIOS, sometimes this helps especially with the BIOS update. Windows 8 recommends updating your BIOS before installing the OS.

Hello. Yesterday I upgraded my laptop (win7, 4gb ram, intel 1,8HZ) to windows 10.
After update I feel great performance drop. Not only it works slower, but also has troubles with things that run smoothly on windows 7.
The biggest problem although is my touchpad. It became less responsive. Originally it didn't work at all. I had to install latest official driver.
Any suggestions to improve it?
I expected that performance would drop but not that greatly. Currently my old pc with 1 Gb Ram and 7 boots up faster. I tried disabling many services and it helped a little. Could someone give me a list of services which are safe to disable?

A:Performance drop after Update

Is it 32-bit or 64-bit? 64-bit edition requires 2GB RAM for smooth performance.Edit: Sorry, I looked only at the specs of your old PC. Did the performance drop occur just after the upgrade or after you started using it i.e. installing new applications et cetera?

I have a trouble with my computer performance.
First time i bought my Notebook, my processor subscore is 6.3
about 4 month past i rerun my WEI and the score become 4.6
What happen to my computer?
Did my processor broken or something?
Now my notebook is reaaaaaly slow...
It takes up to 8 minutes to boot up

A:Performance + WEI Subscore drop

Hello Darkshadow, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It could be a number of things that affect the WEI score. Here are a few ideas that I hope may help:Did you leave the computer idle with nothing else running or opened while running the WEI score update? (most common cause)
Did you update your chipset drivers?
Did you flash your BIOS with a new version?

Hi guys,

Past week I did a manual cleaning of my whole cabinet, and also the processor's stock fan that was making a constant sound that fans generally make.

I pulled out the lever for detaching the fan, and did a thorough cleaning of the fan.
After that I blew away the excess dust inside the motherboard, which I regret.

And after fixing it back, without new thermal paste was happy that the sound was gone.

But, now the sound has came back again, which is quite annoying, but can be ignored.
Strangely though, I am experiencing a general performance drop, and slow response of my mouse (Razer Death Adder).

And also the loading time of webpages has increased.

I wanna know if this is happening because of the thermal paste not applied or is it something with my OS ?
Should I apply thermal paste again ? Its been about 2 years since I bought the machine.

You certainly should have cleaned off the old paste and reapplied new paste.

Are you having any temperature issues?

Are you POSITIVE that the fan is responsible for the noise you hear?

I wouldn't expect what you did to affect the mouse or performance unless your PC is now throttling due to heat issues or unless you accidentally did something else.

Recently I have noticed a very significant performance drop in games. Doom 3 runs at least a full 10 fps slower, F.E.A.R. sp demo lags like crazy, Swat 4, which I used to run at absolute max specs on everything, is now jumpy. ***!!!??? Sorry...I'm just a bit pissed that my investment seems to have gone to crap...

Recent things that have happened that seem a bit suspicious but I dunno how they would be linked to this: 1. I changed some bios settings and when I restarted my computer, it did nothing, so I had to reset my bios manually to get it to start. Then ZoneAlarm gave me hell about not having a proper root certificate, so I had to go through a long process of unistalling that manually (believe me it was hell). 2. I recently bought a Zalman VF700 cooler for my 6800 ultra, which keeps the temps about 7 degrees cooler. 3. I flashed my bios.

my system specs:

3.2 Ghz P4 w/ HT
6800 ultra

Ok well first off I have attched a DxDiag and two hijackthis files. The first Hijack this file is when most processes are running and the second is when I have closed as many things on the taskbar as possible without it becoming inconvenient.

Now here is the problem, when playing World of Warcraft I normally run at about 120 frames per second. I am not sure if the computer specs I entered when registering show up in this post so I will just add that I have a 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 4 gigs of ram, and an 8800GTX.

Now this should be more than enough to run WoW at max settings comfortably, and it usually is. The problem I am experiencing is at seemingly random intervals my computer will become extremely bogged down. The frame rate will drop to well below 30fps sometimes hitting as low as 5fps. This will happen even if I turn the settings all to low. When this first started happening I thought that perhaps my virus scanner was turning on during game play but this wasn't the issue. I have tried closing any and all programs running in the background and it doesn't seem to fix the issue.

Usually the only way to temporarily fix this is to restart my computer as even if I restart World of Warcraft the problem persists. Once the computer has been restarted the game usually runs fine for a few hours though sometimes it happens again right away. I recently cleaned out my case to make sure it wasn't over heating as well.

Now this isn't a problem I have always had. W... Read more

I use this laptop exlusively for veterinary school-related things, and have been having problems ever since I ran a prophylactic chkdsk earlier this month. We recieved the laptops from the IT techs local to the school, who "set them up" for us. Network performance has dropped, speed has taken a massive hit, and it seems to lock up way more than it ever should.
I am not positive it is anything malware related, but I would like to remove the possibility.
I have attached an HJT log along with the DDS log requested.
I am relatively experienced at computer maintenance and intricacies, but I really can't find anything wrong with the laptop. I will be hapy to provide any extra information needed.

Extreme performance degradation over the past few hours, on an otherwise long-stable Windows 7 machine.
Symptoms: Resource Monitor shows 90%+ CPU utilization by svchost.exe (netsvcs) ... but the Services pane (again, within Resource Monitor) does not show any CPU consumption by services (in that process, or elsewhere)... and interactive use doesn't seem to be affected (including posting this message)

AND now ... literally as I was typing the above... the CPU utilization dropped down to near zero. (!?!)

Cue Twilight Zone theme...
(I'll poke around to see if there were any noteworthy changes in the filesystem, of course.)

I had a hard drive diagnostic virus that generated fake warnings, fake hard disk scanner and then offered a solution for only $20 etc. I followed the bleeping computer removal guide which worked. My system is working again almost as good as new. However, I've still got a browser redirect (not just google any engine) and general performance seems slower than usual. The hard disk diagnostic and the browser redirect started at the same time so I have assumed they're related but obviously might not be.

Internet explorer seems to be affected more than firefox. It's the same as many other posts. You do a search, the results come up as normal but if you click a link the browser redirects to random unrelated websites. Also the websites it diverts to ar enot trying to sell anything, most of them are redundant or no longer in use.

I can stop the redirects from occurring either by pushing up the security settings as high as possible (which obviously causes some problems with most web sites) or by frantically clicking a search result link which eventually gets past the redirect. Also selecting the cached version of a web page bypasses the redirect. Once you've made it to the site you wanted it seems ok, although the increased security means that just about any content is blocked, so you have to drop the security a little and then things start to go wrong again.

So far Spyware doctor, Kaspersky and Malwarebytes haven't picked anything up (apart from ... Read more

With no changes made to my computer, it has suddenly begun to produce low frame rates in games, flash movies, and visualizations. I have installed drivers for my video card, updated directx, cleaned my registry, run spyware and virus programs, and tweaked the page file options. Very few processes run in the background, and haven't had any more added since i've encountered problems. There is an odd thing that happens when playing a game or watching a youtube video; low frame rates are encountered for about 1 and a half minutes, and then the video runs smoothly at a high frame rate for about 2 seconds, then returns to dragging. My computer used to do this a while back, but resolved itself after watching or playing for about a minute. I have installed no new programs or anything during the time it began having slow rates continuously. I also rolled back media player, but the video and visualizations are still under par. I can get a better rate if i lower the setting in games, but i know my computer has more juice, i just can't find out where its being diverted to. I appreciate any help on this subject, as it is vexing me to no end.

Hello all, I recently updated my laptop from Windows 8 to 8.1. Before updating, I was able to play all of my games just fine, particularly Skyrim, on high or even max settings. After updating though, the first time I loaded a save game it took nearly between 5-10 minutes to load (compared to normal 1 at most). After that they are better, but still much slower than they used to be, and I can also barely even run Skyrim at the lowest possible graphics settings. I know that my computer has the capability to handle higher settings. Did the update change some setting in performance that I am not aware of? Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks!

OK, so after posting this, it occurred to me that Nvidia may have released new drivers after Windows 8.1 released. After updating my graphics drivers, I am back to my old high quality settings! Thanks anyway!

Hi,  I've been using my TP 460 (Win 10) everyday just to study (Word, EndNote, Chrome... that stuff.) Just one week ago, my battery was performing just fine---it gave me 6 to 7 fantastic hours of fine work. However, now it only gives me 3 hours at its best. I know that batteries drain slowly over time (this is not my first ThinkPad,) but I'm pretty sure that this process doesn't happen in 24 hours! I repeat: just a week ago it gave me 6 straight hours ---seven days later, just 3 all of a sudden. There was one incident that I recall. About a week ago, the battery icon in the taskbar (Win 10 Pro) has gone: nor hidden, nor shaded---just gone. When looking at "Select which icons appear on the taskbar", in Settings, "Power" is on. When looking at "Turn system icons on or off", the "Power" button appears shaded, with no possibility of turning it on or off (even though it appears as "On"). I tried to clear all static from PC. So I removed the AC cord and the battery, and prepared to push the power button several times, you know... I didn't know that my TP had an internal battery. So, to my surprise, the computer started... and kept working for almost two hours. I waited until the power got drained. I put on the battery again, and the AC cord, and continued to work normally. After several restarts, the power icon returned... but my battery now lasts only 3 hours. What is happening? Any ideas, please? Details: -TP 460-Bought ... Read more

So i have a Lenovo Ideapad z510 laptop i5, 6Go Ram, Windows 7 Pro 64x about 5 years old.

Last week , i started having a problem with the battery, the laptop is plugged-in , it says charging but the battery percentage won't go up , stuck at 0%, i tried couple of things like disabling and uninstalling the ACPI Microsoft and the Microsoft adaptor and enabling them again, i tried discharging the pc , but that didn't fix the problem, i guess the battery just died , if you guys have a solution for that , i would appreciate it.

Now i only mentioned the battery problem to give as much informations to help you understand what is going on with my pc.

My major problem now is , that after coming out of sleep mode, the pc become slow and it's like the processor isn't performing as it used to be, for example , can't watch youtube/twitch in 1080p or higher, it doesn't buffer but it lags (stutter) . It only get fixed if i restart the pc. But now the problem is even worse, if i start the pc it works perfectly fine , but after like 10 minutes the lags and stutters beggins, i didn't put it to sleep mode, it just starts becoming slow and when i want to watch high quality videos online,it stutters. I was playing a video game and was having like 130 fps which is normal to me, but then all of sudden it became 20 fps .

After booting ,the computer works perfectly fine, i can watch high quality with no problems , the processor seems to be working fine, i ca... Read more

I have an about 2 weeks old HP Pavilion m9066.sc*, games have worked fine on it until now.
Yesterday I disabled some of Vista's services and after rebooting I started getting low performance in all of my games. My framerate would drop drastically when there's more than a few player models in my view and my average framerate has been about cut in half. I re-enabled the services but that didn't fix it! I doubt that it even caused the problem in the first place, but I honestly don't remember doing anything else that would explain this.

I have tried reinstalling my video drivers (tried both ForceWare 169.13b and 163.75) and cleaning with Driver Cleaner Pro. I've shut down all but necessary processes before gone in game. I've done spyware & virus scans. Vista is up to date and I've installed the hotfixes from Nvidia. DirectX won't update using End-User Runtime so I suppose it's up to date aswell. None of my components appear to be overheating either.

I really wouldn't want to have to reinstall Vista for a fix to this, perhaps someone here can help me? I'll try anything!

I am experiencing a recent and dramatic drop in performance on my Compaq Presario 1800 running Windows XP Pro SP2.

I have been running XP Pro on this computer for nearly a year without difficulty. For some unknown reason however, my system is NOW running EXTREMELY SLOW... sometimes 20-30 minutes to boot and several minutes to start a program.

I use ZoneAlarm, AVG, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, Counterspy and Ad Aware and have run complete scans detecting nothing.

I have also performed a disk defrag and run chkdsk to detect any problems.

Any suggestions?

Have you installed anything just prior to the slow down? Just a shot in the dark here but my sister just installed a new HP printer. After that her computer would take 10-12 minutes to boot up. I did some checks and found that the computer was looking at all of the card slots (for digital cameras) as drives and was trying its best to check them before completing the boot process. Don't know why the printer causes that problem and the Epson that her husband uses, also with card slots, has no problem at all. HP's only workaround so far is really unsatisfactory to me, but she is living with it. Having to keep the USB cable disconnected until after the computer boots up would drive me bonkers!

A couple of days back, I began to notice a drop in my computer's overall performance and consequently downloaded both Avast! and Malwarebytes and ran scans with both...both of them found threats which I took care of but neither scans were fully completed. I have tried over and over again but both stop at a particular point (avast when it is 66% complete and Malwarebytes when is has scanned around 50000 objects). My computer's performance is still absolutely shocking and nigh on unusable, with slow, ten minute response times making it virtually impossible to defragment or cleanup my drives etc. I am not very technically minded but I've has it up to here with it's performance and am tempted to just wipe the hard-drive and take an axe to it.
The files I quarantined and deleted were all PUP.OPTIONAL files with different company names, eg: PUP.OPTIONAL.WAJAM and some were PUP.IMMINENT files.
I honestly don't know if I'm infected or not, but I'm sick and tired of programs not responding and literally having to reboot the thing every ten minutes (not an exaggeration)
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, so last night I took out my old motherboard, 3gb of ram and 2.6ghz dual core processor and put in an ASRock 970 Extreme3, AMD FX-4100 3.6ghz Quad Core, and 8gb of new RAM. I kept my Radeon HD5670.

I turned on my computer and booted up windows. Everything seemed nice, snappier than usual and after some messing around all my stuff loaded faster and everything seemed in order.

So I booted up Far Cry 2 and the first thing I notice is that something seems wrong. Fraps is reading the framerate at only 5-10 FPS when I used to get 20-30 even on ultra high with my old 2.6ghz dual core. So after some messing around I figure out that It only does that in DX10 mode. When I set it to DX9 it runs buttery smooth.

After some testing I've found it does this in a bunch of games but it's not always related to Direct X (for example, Saints Row in Direct X 11 mode runs perfect.)

So now after my upgrade games like Just Cause 2, Prototype, Saints Row 3, Bad Company 2 and others I've tried are all running excellent and smooth on max or almost max settings, but games like Metro 2033, Mass Effect, Deus Ex: HR, Far Cry 2, and others all run at a consistent 5-10 FPS. What gives?

I made sure I installed all the drivers that came with my motherboard and made sure to get the updated ones, then I upgraded my video drivers and nothing seems to make a difference, I really can't think of what might be causing this.

Any suggestions?
