Bios Recovery, cant enter bios menu

Q: Bios Recovery, cant enter bios menu

Hello, i have a really annoying problem: Everytime i start my laptop, it wont boot up. The capslock button is blinking twice so i guess the bios is damaged. First i checked if there is a update for my bios on you driver/software download page but there isnt. So afterward i tried to recover and reinstall my bios but i cant even enter the bios update menu.In the bios recovery manual http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833 it says:With the computer off, press and hold the Windows logo key and the B key at the same time.Still pressing those keys, press and hold down the Power button on the computer for 1 to 2 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows and B keys until the BIOS update screen is displayed or until you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps). But this isnt working. It only blinks twice continiously but wont boot. Can anyone help me? I cant find further information regarding this issue. I start to get really really annoyed by the problem because sometimes it takes up to 15-20 times to get the laptop running. Best Regards

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I press f2 at startup and get put into a black screen with white letters. I can either boot windows normally or run diagnostics. I need to change the boot order. I am running windows 7 off mac OS X if that would make a difference but I do not believe it would knowing I can still enter the boot menu. Windows still works like a regular windows computer but I can't seem to find the windows boot order. Can anyone help me with this? I have used Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool to format the USB correctly and install the ISO files. I am not sure where to go once in the windows boot menu so that is what I am asking for. Direction to the boot order so I can change it. Thanks!

A:Why can I not enter my boot options when in my bios menu?

Hello jeplonski Welcome to the Seven Forums! The place to look would be in the user manual for either the system if premade or the board if a custom build to find out exactly which F key you need to press at post time that's right when first turning on the power or following a system restart when either the factory logo screen appears or doesn't if disabled in the bios setup program for the main board itself.

Often it will be the F4 if not F8 or F11, F12 keys that are used for bringing up the one time boot device menu. The Del key or another of the F keys will be assigned for entering the setup program right after the drives and other devices are detected at post. Once in the advanced section of the bios you will find the boot order for assigning which will be first as well as if only one, two, or three drives or devices will be set in order.

For installation from dvd in past years the dvd drive would be set as first often if there wasn't any boot device menu you could bring to select cd rom drive and see Windows installed. You had to go back in following first system restart once all the setup files had been copied from disk to hard drive to set the OS drive as the first in the boot order. Now we generally either boot from the dvd or a USB Installation Key made up using the one time boot option.

The boot device menu is not found in Windows at post time but an optional boot menu you bring up at post time. Typically you should be seeing the F key indicated right as the sys... Read more

My Dell Precision M6800 has been hanging and not booting sometimes on and off for a year.  I've managed to coax it into working before by unplugging everything and taking it out of its station.   Now it won't start up no matter what I do.  REMEMBER I CAN'T GET INTO BIOS.
What I've done so far
1. removed all storage/hard drives one at a time.  Primary, secondary, optical, mSATA
2. pulled memory, tried each stick by self.
3. unplugged coin battery with power plug disconnected and laptop battery removed.  Left unplugged for more than a minute.
4. cleaned everything with compressed air.
So now what happens when I press F2:
1. I briefly get the yellow "entering setup" on the upper right of the screen
2. Then I get two lines of text:
Initializaing Intel(R) Boot Agent GE v1.5.50
PXE 2.1 Build 092 (WfM 2.0)
The same thing happens when I press F12 except the yellow text changes to "Preparing one-time boot menu"
I've tried putting a freshly made windows 10 usb install media  in a usb  slot and the same thing happens

I had a strange set of circumstances today. I was trying to update my memory from 2 to 4g. My system would not boot with the new memory and the bios gave 3 beeps. After removing the new memory, the system would boot to XP but I had no video. I powered down and powered back up. I now had video but the system would hang. In Safe Mode, it would hang after the following entry system32/config/system. Note I never observed any windows error messages, just the hang.

I used the Recovery Console from an XP CD and did a chkdsk /r and chdsk /f
I also ran fixboot

None of these solved the problem.

I then ran fixmbr
Recovery Console displayed some kind of caution message that I had a "invalid" or something MBR and that it might prevent me from access partitions or something.

Well, I ran fixmbr anyway since i was out if ideas.

Now when I try to boot, it is freezing during the post process. When I hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, it says "entering setup" but it never does. It seems to be hanging right after the drive detect process.
Note I have one standard IDE drive © and 2 SATA drives. Windows XP is installed on one of the SATA drives.

Any ideas? Let me know if you need any more info.

A:BIOS Hang, unable to enter BIOS Setup after running FIXMBR

This sounds more like a BIOS = hardware issue. Since you have been inside the case it is possible something got nudged loose. Re-seat your memory and video card if it is an add-on.

My laptop has no problem before. Recently I try to install Windows XP. First attempt fail, so I change SATA at BIOS from AHCI to Compatible, success. However the partition that I want to install*Windows XP to is not available.*

So just to test I choose my Windows 7 partition. Since it want to format the partition, I cancel the installation. After restarting windows, it stuck at bios. I restart again and change SAT to AHCI. Restart, still stuck at bios. This time I cannot enter BIOS, recovery or change boot media. Assuming the boot sector has corrupt, will reseating the cmos battery will fix this *problem. Please help. Thanks in advance.*

A:Windows 7 Stuck At BIOS Cannot Enter BIOS or Change Boot Media

Somehow with guidance from Lenovo Community, I solved the problem.

For future reference:
1. Take out HDD, battery, plug off ac power.
2. Restart, change SATA Controller in BIOS to compatible, restart.
3. Check whether the SATA Controller is Compatible or AHCI. If Compatible, force shutdown laptop.
4. Put back HDD, boot with Windows 7 Recovery CD or Installation Disc.
5. Choose Autostartup Repair.
6. Restart.

my guess is that your cmos battery died and it wants you to set day/time.  There is no backdoor password.  The choices are remember the PW or replace the motherboard.

Hi Guys
I restored an image created with Macrium Reflect on my wife's computer (Custom build with Asus P8Z77-V LX mother board) and everything went fine until rebooting when i got to the "Please press DEL or F2 to enter UEFI BIOS settings" then everything stopped.
I have tried F2 DEL F8 F12 just about all the F combinations and nothing works, I have two SSD drives one with Win7 Pro and one with Win10 Pro (not connected at the same time) and neither of them will boot up.
I have tried changing the jumper pins from 1 and 2 to 2 and 3 for 10 sec to clear the RTC Ram in CMOS then returned then to 1 and 2 and tried rebooting...no change so i removed the battery and repeated the jumper pin swap then reinstalled the battery and still no change, cannot get passed press DEL or F2 to access the BIOS settings.
I even downloaded the latest BIOS and updater as shown and put them on a USB flash drive together and tried the Macrium Rescue disk, and still nothing happened and it will not open the BIOS maybe i got it all wrong ?
I was hoping someone here might know how to put it right, i am out of idea's and any help would be greatly appreciated.

So a few days ago, I had the smart idea to update my Bios. I had brought up System Information and saw I hadn't updated the Bios since 2011 (it's an older computer), so I downloaded the 2013 Bios, and ran the windows installer. Everyone seemed to run fine.

But afterwards, the computer would restart at the Bios screen multiple times. Given enough time, it would sometimes get past the Bios screen and load Windows.

I tried pressing F2 to bring up the Bios menu, but it would restart before the menu popped up. After probably 4-6 resets, I could bring up the Bios menu.

I tried using an USB with the 2013 Bios on it to install it again, but it didn't fix anything.

I've heard of different things, like pulling out and putting back in (reseating) the CMOS battery to reset the Bios to the original version. I haven't tried that yet because I wanted to see if there were any other options.

Thank you for your time.

A:Computer Restarts at BIOS, often can't even bring up BIOS menu

I am not aware that reseating the CMOS battery will cause the BIOS to revert to the original version.  Nevertheless, have you tried re-flashing the 2013 version again?  If that doesn't solve the problem, maybe you could try flashing the 2011 version?

Hello all, I've been messing with and Googling this problem all day and am stumped. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My laptop:
Toshiba A105-S4134
XP SP2
MCE 2005
Intel T2400 Duo Core
2 GB RAM

1. Two days ago I had a glitch - a bunch of browser windows were open and the system just sort of froze up. I ended up doing a hard restart. The PC then took a longer than normal time to boot back up.

2. That made me nervous, so yesterday I made True Image images of both partitions on the HD, that is C: (OS and apps) and D: (data).

3. This morning I decided to run a memory diagnostic disk (I had memtest86+ and Windows Diagnostics CDs on hand). I set boot priority to CD/DVD ROM using Start > All Programs > Toshiba > Utilities > Toshiba Assist > Optimize > Toshiba Hardware Settings > Boot Priority

4. When I restarted the PC, I heard the CD Rom drive spin for a few seconds, but the screen stayed lack and didn't boot. After some time passed with no activity, I hit control/alt/delete a couple of times and XP then booted form the HD.

5. I unsuccessfully tried multiple times with three bootable CDs (that worked on another Toshiba laptop), including the Recovery and Apps disk that came with the laptop. Same result. I re-checked boot order a few times and the setting priority was still as I had set it.

6. I then found that I was unable to get into either safe mode or BIOS, or to get the PC to boot from the CD ROM during startup using any of F12, F8, F2... Read more

when she booted up the PC it gave a message "Operating system not found", after a quick google search i found that if i boot from a USB installer and repair the PC, or go into bios and change the HDD location etc. I could fix it.
This is not the main problem, the main problem is i CANT get into the BIOS after everything i have tried and the only way i can fix this PC is if i enter the BIOS, anyone know either how to fix the OS not found without BIOS, OR, how to get into BIOS without windows.

Hello,
I am having problems with direct booting into Windows 8 installed into a VHDX file.
This is a four-partition UEFI boot on a GPT drive. EFI files are residing on a second partition of disk 0 (the ESP partition) in the EFI folder. The boot virtual disk is residing on the fourth partition of that disk 0.
When I turn on the PC, it shows black screen after the BIOS POST screen. No Windows 8 boot menu, no other information is displayed. However, if I press Shift+F12 (or F12) to start Dell BIOS Boot Menu and choose Windows Boot Manager from the UEFI part of
the boot menu, Windows 8 starts to boot without difficulties.
How do I make Windows to boot automatically without having to select Windows Boot Manager in DELL BIOS boot menu?
I believe I messed up with boot sector somehow... What needs to be fixed provided that Windows 8 will boot into VHDX file?
Thank you.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... Ive been gradually morphing the system in my sig for about a year and recently decided to tweak the oc up alittle more after getting a top notch heat sink.

1st boot after changing sink reported Windows file missing so just for the hell of it I entered BIOS and relaxed RAM settings on a hunch and it booted fine.

Everything runs fine, including a 6*C drop in load temps (thats another 6* of clocking then ;] )

EXCEPT: hitting del during startup no longer enters BIOS, it goes straight through to windows.

I have a USB keyboard which I suspect, however I was in the BIOS only 4 hours ago with this kb to change the RAM timings after the 1st unsuccessful boot.

All ive done since the refit is zipped a few big files to check load temps, surfed a bit and gamed for half an hour. At no point did temps rise above 45*C.

Odd...

I dont know where to put this... Mostly becuase I dont know what is wrong with my computer, but I am trying to fix a PC and give it windows 10.

I have all the parts I need, and I have an OS disc, but my computer won't boot it.
Nor only that, but it wont let me open the bios to change the boot source...
I googled the key I need to press, f2, and spammed it from thr second I turned it on, to the time it told me to "reboot and select proper reboot device"

Please help?
Edit: my son's birthday is in 2 days and I need this as quickly as possible!

Hello Everyone!

My first post on these forums, I am looking for help with a specific problem. I have a Lenovo G40-30 laptop which does not boot up the BIOS. Pressing the BIOS button on the laptop and selecting the BIOS gives me a black screen with a still cursor in the top left hand corner. The only part of the BIOS I am able to enter is the boot selection.

I have Windows 8 running on the laptop, but I occassionally get a BSOD which is why I have been wanting to enter the BIOS and format everything and get a fresh, clean install.

My question is how can I reset the BIOS? I am unable to reset the CMOS battery because it is soldered onto the motherboard, unless taking it apart and re-soldering will reset it?

I am looking for any ideas/solutions to my problem.

Many thanks!

A:G40-30 - Can't enter BIOS?!

Hi Akuto ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Depending on the model of your machine, initially best way to start is to perform power drain.

Turn off the pc and remove the battery and unplug the ac adapter charger .
Press down the power button down for 15 seconds.
If possible to remove the harddrive to prevent fast boot .

Place back the battery and charger.
Turn it back on using the Lenovo button and choose BIOS set up .
F9 should load defaults and F10 to save and exit.
Any BSOD  without the harddrive?

Turn it back off and place back the harddrive .
Start back with the same Novo button for the BIOS set up and check if the harddrive is detected  and restart .

It would be helpful to have the model and machine number so that we can check further but you may also refer to the user guide and hardware manual downloadable from the support site.
It would indicate the same process for a Factory reset  for your machine accessible thru the same Novo Button.

System Recovery will delete everything on the PC and reimage it back the way it was from out of the box .
One Key Recovery from Inittial backup is the hidden factory partition on the same harddrive.

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hey guys i have a huge problem and have been on every other tech website praying for answer but none have came. I have recently built a PC with a friend and once we finished building it we plugged it in to the monitor pressed delete and everything worked fine at with his keyboard and monitor. I brought it over to my house and plugged it into my old HP w1907 monitor and it take 2 minutes after i turn on my computer to finally show on the monitor! After that i try entering the BIOS with a Logitech mk 345 wireless combo and its almost as if it not even plugged in, i have tried everything from buying the brand new Logitech keyboard to plugging it into USB 2.0 instead of 3.0. The keyboard i tried before the Logitech one was a PS2 HP keyboard. Its came to the point where i am almost giving up on the whole build. Hope you guys could help!
My specs are:
MSI Geforce GTX 960
AMD FX 8350
MSI 760GM-P34
Kingston 8GB of RAM
1 TB Hitachi Hard Drive
Rosewill FBM-01 case
If i forgot anything just let me know thank you guys!

A:Cant enter BIOS!?

Well it could be that you may need to use a PS2 keyboard to initially access the BIOS setup, then consult the mobo manual as to where to enable the USB functionality you may need, such as legacy. As far as accessing the BIOS with a wireless combo, that might not work at all depending on the type of USB receiving unit. That would explain why it takes so long for the video to fire up your monitor, the PC is probably looking for a keyboard and mouse and not finding them, eventually it gives up and completes the POST anyway. Just a theory.

A:Cant Enter Bios?

When booting your PC before the Windows XP screen, there is text displaying boot menu and bios information/hotkeys.
