P50 4k screen flicker and "bleed"

Q: P50 4k screen flicker and "bleed"

Hi,I have this annoying persistent flicker and bleed/stain on my screen and it is visible in any application. It is most visible in grey color background. I already updated bios and drivers but still have the issue. Anyone knows of any fix? I would want to have this brought in for repair via warranty, though that would be my least preferred option due to inconvenience. Hope anyone here could shed light on this. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This is my second HP Omen, the first one I purchased was returned within two weeks for the exact same issue. My laptops screen is flickering in a strobe light fashion and this is the exact same issue I fully returned the last laptop for. A reboot does not seem to have any effect leaving me to heavily believe this is a hardware not a software related issue. The screen will flicker and around the edges there are very distinct Red then Blue then Green color lines circling the outer edge. They are usually only clearly visible on dark backgrounds. After about 5-10 minutes the flickering will stop the color will fade and the laptop functions normally. Thankfully I caught the first one within the two week window to return it but I am JUST out of that window this time around so it looks like I'm out of luck for a simple solution. To top it off the reason I bought this laptop was to replace my desktop PC as I'm moving to Japan less than a week from now so there's no more time for me to be running around to stores and I didn't want to haul a full desktop setup with me although now I'm not sure this expense was a good decision. My phones camera syncs with the flickering so the video I have doesn't show much but the pictures I've taken of the color bleed are pretty clearly a problem. It was plenty that when I brought the first one in I got a replacement almost immediately after they saw them. Nothing that I've found yet will replicate the issue 100% other than time. I forgot to add, the first laptop I uninstalled all of the HP bloatware and I left the BIOS version at its default. This laptop however I did the opposite, I left all the bloatware on the machine and I updated the BIOS to the latest version supplied on the HP Omen 17 downloads page on the HP website. The only other thing I've updated thus far is the sound drivers as I'm also having an issue where using VOIP software my voice goes very robotic and the software has to be reset. This exact issue has also occurred on both laptops using a microphone that does not have this issue on any other device.

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Great that you have the picture specially if this would still show outside Windows on the BIOS screen and is not apparent on an external video.

You can call in Lenovo Tech Support for recommended repair .
They most likely be asking for the picture for emailing to attach on the service ticket too .

I just bought a brand new Pavilion X360 Convertible 15-bk193ms Signature Edition 2 in 1 and the bottom corners of the screen bleed from the backlight display. Is this fixable without losing my laptop for months sending it back for repair? I know it can't be solved with any adjustments that are available on board, and it can't be a driver or software issue. Here's hoping for a quick fix response but judging from other threads and posts I've seen that is wishful thinking. I believe in HP products and unlike most others I love Windows. Keep me feeling that way please and help me fix this. Thank you. (This is the 4th HP I've had and the first with problems)

just got my P72 with a UHD screen and it has backlight bleed on the bottom.I attached photos to show.. It's on the right side just off the corner and on the left side that has a hard edge of light bleed and its pretty wide. ( it also changes depending on viewing angle ) Whould like to know what the vets think as this is my first lenovo. After paying what i did, i would expect no bleeding at all. Not really wanting to send it back just to get another one with the same problem or have someone come rip the screen apart to install another one that might have the same problems. what you do guys think?Any help is appreciated!

A:My P72 UHD Screen Has Backlight Bleed

Yours is far better. Mine had more bleeding than this. Area to watch for is bottom left. Reported to Premier support. Waited three weeks, LCD was back-ordered, two times panels replaced, bleeding issued persisted. Now they are sending me new replacement. No point in calling for this, as my problem got worse. The replaced LCD part had stuck pixels. If the bleeding is affecting you and if you are within the return window return the laptop for refund/replacement. I am past 30 day return window, good thing about Premier Support is they escalated and they are sending me a new replacement unit.

This model has a major Screen Bleed issue.I got two replacements, but no good.It looks like this model has a common issue with its screen. Now I have no choice but to live with it. I owned two laptops previously from other vendors. None of them ever had such issue. This is the first time I bought a high end product. And guess what, I am disappointed.I wish you had a much tighter quality control at your end. You had cut cost in usb-c port. But screen should not be compromised. When you call it a high end product, you should not expect the consumer to deal with such basic issue. How can we trust you in future? Hope it reaches to the concerned department and they take some positive steps to amend their ways.

This isn't a small problem either, I've found multiple cases of this online. It seems to happen to the bestbuy laptops the most. I tried contacting hp support on the computer but they were no help and when they called me I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying. Great laptop, horrible screen.  Has anyone found a fix for this or has hp recalled these laptops? Since I got my laptop there has been a problem with screen backlight bleed in the bottom left-hand corner of the display. It is clearly noticeable when in a dark environment, showing dark content on the screen or when the screen brightness is turned up high, however, it is not that noticeable in normal use. Lenovo has offered a repair but I am interested in hearing whether people think this is worth it. I am worried that after the inconevience of backing up all my data and sending my laptop away, the repair will not make much difference to the issue, as it affects nearly all laptops so some degree. Does anyone have any experience with getting this kind of issue repaired and if so was it worth it?

Did u ever send it in for repair? I got 3 of the 710 laptops and 2 have really bad bleed but the 1 I kept is a lot better with just a little bleed in the lower left. Same boat as you. Lenovo offered repair but I'm hesitant it might come back worse.

Hey guys, joined this forum to see if anyone can help me out. I'm not too tech savvy so hopefully someone that know what they're talking about can help me. A couple of days ago I bought a new laptop after my old one died. I use this for school and personal use. I love the laptop. It's great. I bought it from Walmart so since it's new a couple of days old if I need to return it I can. But I just wanna see if this stuff is normal or not and if I'm being way to picky. I spent a lot of money on this and if something's wrong with it I wanna return it and exchange it while I can.So the problem I'm having is the screen. This is the first time I've owned an HD laptop screen and especially one that's this thin. It's an IPS screen and a touch screen. Well i had some time yesterday to sit down and mess with the laptop and changed my wallpaper and it's a black wallpaper well I noticed the top left and right corners of the the screen there is some fade to yellow or white at the corners. So would this be IPS glow or back light bleed? I tried to take a good picture it's a little more noticeable in person but this is close. Also another question. This is a pretty thin laptop, the thinnest laptop I've ever owned and I noticed when I close the screen down when I'm done when my hand touches the metal lid on the back of the laptop while closing it the screen ripples, is that normal? I know usually when you touch a screen it ripples but I'm touching the back of it so just wanna be sure that's nor... Read more

I just ordered a Dell Inspirion 15 7577 on the black friday sale (11/24/17) and, before anything, I'd like to say that Dell did a fantastic job on this model. Great thermal management, stunning graphics and highly solid and durable chassis. I am in love with this laptop.
But unfortunately, my screen did come with some backlight bleeding from the start and some clouding. It is not noticeable when gaming, except when I go into a dark area. But it is there and I cannot seem to ignore it.
I have ran the color tests (power button + D) and they are not noticeable then, but are very noticeable on a black screen.
What are my options and next steps?
Many thanks.

P.S. I am attaching a photo of my screen. The bleed is in the upper-mid section of the screen. And the clouding is most apparent on the upper-left and upper-right corners.

You're probably best off asking for a replacement system.  The other option is to have the screen replaced.

Hi there,

Sorry about the title I wasn't sure how to put it.

My newly built computer seems to have an issue with either the graphics card or the monitor or both and i am not sure which. The three problems I have are the windows aero animations have gone into slow motion as if the GPU can't handle them (it is the same for games) Also the monitor sometimes randomly goes blank while I am using the computer (most often when something graphically intense comes on screen) When I say 'go blank' I mean the desktop dissapears off the monitor but the monitors back-light is still on, I think is the computer crashing but can't tell because the monitor isn't showing anything. Finally the colors sometimes bleed in certain areas. Here is a demonstration of the bleeding. http://i41.tinypic.com/jkc183.png

What confuses me is that my monitor has different issues when plugged into my mums mac but still doesn't work properly. Also my mums monitor works fine in her mac but I still have all the same problems above when it is plugged into my pc.
Here is my PC spec:

Intel Core i5 2500 @ 3.30GHz
ATI Radeon HD 6870
MSI Motherboard H61
8GB RAM (all being detected correctly)
Corsair CX500 PSU
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
LiteOn IHAS124 24x
Here are the drivers I have:

My monitor (Novatech 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor Full HD) - I can't find any drivers
Mums monitor (Dell SE198WFP) - Driver version 1.0.0.0
ATI Radeon HD 6870 - Driver version 11.12
Thanks in advance
Thomas

A:Blank Screen, Slow Motion and Colour Bleed. GPU Failure?

First thing to check is to make sure that the GPU is properly seated all the way as well as the rest of the hardware. Next would be to make sure that you have both 6 pin power connections connected and seated all the way. Thirdly, making sure that you have the latest driver installed and finally checking to make sure you that have the native resolution set correctly.

Only when I switch back to EXTENDED display the laptop screen returns to extreme flicker but NOT the external monitor. That seems to display just fine no matter what's happening on the laptop.4. When I do a screen capture of the dialog box displayed on the laptop screen, the image that I captured on the screen is fine when I paste. Hi, when I tilt my screen forwards and backwards (not really when I rotate it in its frame) I get a flicker and the screen goes black for a second. It feels like it might be a hardware issue - I just wondered if it was common and there was a cheap fix? Or if it is a software issue is there something that can be installed to remedy it?

Hi dear yoga fellows. After tossing and troubling with how to fix my black screens and flickering that mostly accured on battery mode when the laptop is dissconnected from the charger, i have finally found a solution that actually WORKS:1st thing, either contact lenovo online/via phone and ask to be emailed all the latest drivers for you machin, including the latest Nvidia and Intel graphic drivers available. (you can also use intel's website for that matter and lenovo bridge)2nd, once you have all drivers ready, install one by one and with each install finished RESTART MACHINE. yes, little hustling but im prevents software conflicts.3rd, Once done with all the driver install and reboots, go to intel graphics control panel by clicking right mouse click on your desktop. there, go to POWER > ON BATTERY and DISABLE Panel Self Refresh. By now youre suppose to have your flickering and black screens fixed.  if that is not the case than go ahead and tap windows button and type "edit power plan" > "change advanced settings" > "display" > "enable adaptive brightness" and turn off on battery or for both. Hope this solved your problem - please comment and let me know  SHIRAN

I just got Windows 7 Home Premium today and installed 64bit edition. I must say, I'm over the moon. Great OS.

Have a very small annoyance issue I was hoping someone could tell me is a result of a feature that I can turn off that isn't a major.

So here's what's happening

In Windows Explorer / My Computer when it's maximized "full screen", when I double click a folder and navigate around the directories, the screen changes brightness to bright then back very quickly to the original level (it basically flashes). If a folder only has a few other files inside of it, it even changes brightness when I hover over the icons. It's not a major and doesn't do it when it's not fully maximized. Even if I make it the size of the screen by dragging the corners when it's restored down it doesn't do it. Very weird, and kind of hurts my eyes, especially when it's getting late at night and I should be in bed already.

When I disable visual themes, the problem goes away, but then it looks like rank, and I want to have all the flashy things that are unique to this version of windows, so....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi Lamda09a, and welcome to sevenforums, you'll like it here,

i had a similar problem back in my brief vista days with a samsung monitor - it didn't like any program going fullscreen - especially movies, it would flicker like crazy.

a visit to the manufacturer's webiste and a quick driver/profile download sorted it out - the one and only time i've needed to download a monitor driver ever, i think. luckily the same monitor has no problems in any of the 7s that i've tried.

hope this helps, if not, come back here!

I'm not sure if this is where I should be posting this. I have a laptop and whenever I take it to class, it is running off of the battery. only when it is running of the battery do I get this random thing on my computer where the screen goes black twice for just a split second. It's almost like it is blinking. It usually only does one set of two "blinks" each time that I unplug it and go to class. I wasn't sure if this is something I should be worried about or not. It never does it when I am plugged in. It is not an issue of low battery as it can happen when I have 80-90% remaining or it can happen when it is low around 20%. It does not happen every time. Any ideas or thoughts about this would be appreciated.

And I also have this thing when I turn my computer off (Again, not every time) where sometimes it will say it's shutting down something called Shell Icon hidden window...is this a bad thing to see?

hi you say it only happens when the settings in the ccc are ticked to overclock? i have seen this problem from other users/forums and they all UN-TICK the overclock box and then the flicker stops. so if you don't really need this function on when using the pc don't use it mine is turned off and it does not affect my games when i am playing them.

Is it the monitor doing something weird? This happened to my neighbor a few weeks ago. It turned out to be a bad monitor. Also, what cord are you using to connect your display to your desktop? (Displayport, VGA, HDMI, etc)
Is the cord twisted? I doubt it's a twisted cord. Maybe a setting in the game itself or it's just part of the game and you just never noticed it. (Again, I doubt that's the cause too.)

What's the game you've been playing?

First, check your monitor's refresh rate; make sure it's set to the highest available value.

Failing that, update your video card and monitor drivers from HERE. Ideally, this should have been carried out prior to the SP3 install, however, as you've had no major issues, you seem to have got away with it, so give it a whirl now.

Hey all,

I have a Packard Bell PIII 450MHz PC running Windows 98SE that I've recently been making a few amendments to (wireless network, addition of RAM - originally 64MB, another 256MB added). I don't know what has caused it but the screen will flicker very badly and I think the monitor might be near its end. The PC has an inbuilt graphics card and is installed with another one (Hercules) but I don't think this is the problem as it ran fine for a long time with both of them in. I recently tried changing the refresh rate to 75Hz AFTER the monitor started to flicker but that didn't make any difference. It seems the top of the screen is worse than the bottom and its starting to go a yellowish colour at the top. Doesn't sound good I know. Do you reckon I need to change the monitor or could it be the graphics cards? Thanks for your help.

Hi guys!
How's it going? Recently built a new rig for working and gaming but I've noticed that there is some slight screen flicker when I load up a game and sometimes even if I'm just on a greyscale webpage- the machine doesn't crash or anything though. There's also no "System information" in my DX Diagnostic so slightly confused why that is as well- I did a scannow scf thing for it and it seemed to repair something but don't know what. I'll write how I built the machine and perhaps that'll give a clue.

I installed all parts in the case as directed and set up. I ran Windows 7 but since I couldn't find my original CD key I couldn't register my copy (I assure you it's all above board- I got my copy of Windows 7 via the Academic Alliance my University has with Microsoft) so with it installed I used the upgrade function of Windows 8 to upgrade and do a fresh install. Once completed I ran the NVideo 310 driver for the GPU I've got. It seemed a bit buggy so I did a complete uninstall of it (unstalling through Device Manager then deleting the NVidia Files in My Programs (realising it was a Beta driver) and replaced it was a slightly earlier WHQL Driver- which is far less buggy. However, this has not fixed the Screen Flicker issue.

As with the lack of "System information" in DxDiag I have no idea. It doesn't seem to register anything but the GPU in one of the latter info sections but there is noth... Read more

What is the exact system model? What is the current OS installed on the system? Does this happen with or without the adapter connected? Is the adapter frayed? What applications are you using when you notice the screen flicker, while using the keyboard to type?
Connect an external keyboard and check if the screen flickers while using the external keyboard.
Connect an external monitor and check if the issue is seen there as well.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.
Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG
While running the tests above, use the keyboard and press any key, although the keypress would not come into effect on the display, check if the screen flickers while in this mode.
Also, run a custom test on the keyboard through Support Assist and check if the screen flickers at that point - http://dell.to/1NEc1Y4
Based on your response, we could isolate the source of the issue.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

having a problem with my lg 700s studioworks monitor, it wasn't flickering that much before i got this registry mechanic download, i clicked tune up, and i tried the recommended and minimal options, and then tried to restore it the way it was, (didnt even think about the monitor acting up) but i still have the problem now, and am without the cd, so i forget what the default settings are for this monitior with this hard drive, just wondering, what can be done about my problem to make it flicker less/ none perhaps..lol..could there be any default info somewhere for this setup?...(like i said it could be a problem specifically somewhere in the registry, permanent damage or something..not 100% sure if its a registry issue tho either) any help would be a plus!

thanks!

not sure if this is where i post, but my screen is either flickering, or not working at all when I start windows in normal mode (not when in safe mode). it just started yesterday after installing napster the day before and itunes the day before that. i tried deleting the programs, and when that didn't work i tried a system restore to about a week or two prior. nothing is working - in fact it seems to be getting worse. can someone please help me?

I've been having an issue in Windows 7 since last night.

Every game I attempt to open, and some application windows, are giving me flickers as though the screen is trying to minimize and maximize repeatedly in rapid succession.

I was recently using Advanced System Optimizer and I'm guessing the problem stemmed from my brief stint with it. Unfortunately my computer wasn't set to take a restore point, or this could've been avoided.

I'm using the most recently updated version of Windows 7 Home Premium right now, and I'll gladly provide any other information you all might need.

Ideas? Anyone?

Recently my screen has been flickering every so often. I first noticed it playing some video games, but I thought it was a graphics setting. Now it seems to be happening while reading on Firefox. Is this a problem with my graphics card? It's a Radeon HD 5500.

Try changing your graphics card refresh rate. Make sure that your monitor and the card are within eachothers' compatibility range, ideally as close as possible.

It just started today. Windows XP Pro, office 2003, Firefox three, lots of RAM, plenty of hard drive space, Dell precision 390 about one year old.

The image on the screen flickers like it's being reloaded several times a second. Additionally, the mouse is not responsive.

After using Alt F4 when I reload the program (Outlook or Firefox) it is stable for a period of time.

Where should I begin to locate the source of the problem?

Thank you

A few months ago, I had a problem where the screen would lightly flicker for a while. It got longer over time to the point where it takes 5 minutes to get to the Windows 10 boot up screen. Any advice?

Crysis, what kind of video card do you have? I ran into a similar situation with my AMD\Radeon 6700HD after I used the included software to overclock. I even let the software pick the settings, but shortly after I started getting screen flickering. Especially when moving the mouse around. I would make sure these settings are OFF or Default. If you don't see anything in particular, I would remove all the video card software, not just drivers, and install from a fresh download.

Good day,

Although this is something minor, it's starting to annoy me a lot. Recently, I noticed that every time after I log into Windows 8.1 with my password, the screen flickers for like a second. I did not have this problem before and have no idea what might have changed to cause this. I haven't installed anything new before the problem occurred.

I do remember that I was fiddling with some display options (changing items sizes) but I did restore them back to the default options. Just updated my nvidia drivers but that didn't solve the issue either.

Win. 8.1 Pro x64bit
i5 3570K stock speed
nVidia GTX 660Ti with 340.52 WHQL driver
