Which BIOS for ENVY 20 AIO running Win 10

Q: Which BIOS for ENVY 20 AIO running Win 10

I have a ENVY 20 AIO (20-d034). It has the problem of a blank screen when trying to startup up. I keep trying to clear CMOS and then reboot. I got it to boot once after about 20 tries. It then would blue screen after booting into WIN 10 desktop. Could not get it stable long enough to install a new BIOS. Now the screen is blank again when trying to boot. I keep trying to clear CMOS and reboot and try to get it to post again and hopefully boot into WIN10 again. Anybody have any ideal how to make this work faster? If I can get it to boot and be stable, which BIOS should I use? Support for this computer shows BIOS 8.16 for WIN 8 and BIOS 8.15 for WIN 8.1. Info on BIOS 8.16 says it suppercedes all other BIOS and once installed you can't go back. Just wanting to make the right decision if I can ever get it to boot again.

Preferred Solution: Which BIOS for ENVY 20 AIO running Win 10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have posted a few questions regarding getting samsung 950 pro (NVME M.2 ssd) to be recognized quickly on boot by ENVY 750-170SE cto rom family id #2b4b and it hasn't been resolved.  I am pretty sure that HP will need to create a newer bios than the a.08 version that i have or the lower versioned number a.07 which is available from HP's website (even though it has a newer date than a.08 (this is really strange))  -  How do i go about getting HP to release a beta or final bios that shortens my boot time by 3 minutes?  Am i posting in the wrong area, if so where do i post?  I am not alone with this problem.  see SpearfishX post #21 - and i am unable to post in this forum, it needs to be reopened and addressed - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Envy-750se-capable-of-M-2-NVMe-u...

A:Bios Upgrade on HP Envy 750-170se CTO bios family 2b4b

@FrozenGamer? If your PC takes 3 minutes to boot in a factory condition then you should contact HP support. If your PC is less than 21 days old then quickly return it.  Without any modifications, your PC should be booting up in less than 30 seconds. I haven't seen any official HP posted information that supports NVMe m.2 SSDs.  Run the HP Support Assistant and see if it picks up a later BIOS update. HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

I'm looking on the support page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-phoenix-850-100-desktop-pc-series/8667923/mo... and there are 2 bioses listed. First is: HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B3A) A0.02 Rev.A This is what my computer is currently running. Next is: HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update (ROM Family SSID 2B4B) A0.38 Rev.A  with a compelling note that says "HP strongly recommends promptly transitioning to this updated BIOS version which supersedes all previous releases."  While running Windows 10, I downloaded the A0.38 update, and tried to execute it and it says the softpaq is a mismatch for the ssid. I made a USB drive, and booted into the uefi items to update using the usb drive. Once there, it said I would be updating to release 00.00 which didn't look right, and I stopped. Is the A0.38 update simply not for my machine? Do the different ROM Families represent different hardware revs?

A:Which bios is the correct bios for the Envy 850-150qe

Hello Very good question. I have looked at the motherboard specs for for PC. Your motherboard SSID is 2B36. The BIOS update A0.38 listed is for for SSID 2B4B. A0.02 BIOS is for SSID 2B3A. I think last identifier is a variable. Your board has xx3x SSID. A0.38 BIOS update is xx4x. Without knowning how HP does this I can only guess.  There must be a similar system with different SSID and motherboard or different chipset and BIOS ROM. GRzy

I had a strange set of circumstances today. I was trying to update my memory from 2 to 4g. My system would not boot with the new memory and the bios gave 3 beeps. After removing the new memory, the system would boot to XP but I had no video. I powered down and powered back up. I now had video but the system would hang. In Safe Mode, it would hang after the following entry system32/config/system. Note I never observed any windows error messages, just the hang.

I used the Recovery Console from an XP CD and did a chkdsk /r and chdsk /f
I also ran fixboot

None of these solved the problem.

I then ran fixmbr
Recovery Console displayed some kind of caution message that I had a "invalid" or something MBR and that it might prevent me from access partitions or something.

Well, I ran fixmbr anyway since i was out if ideas.

Now when I try to boot, it is freezing during the post process. When I hit F2 to enter the BIOS setup, it says "entering setup" but it never does. It seems to be hanging right after the drive detect process.
Note I have one standard IDE drive © and 2 SATA drives. Windows XP is installed on one of the SATA drives.

Any ideas? Let me know if you need any more info.

A:BIOS Hang, unable to enter BIOS Setup after running FIXMBR

This sounds more like a BIOS = hardware issue. Since you have been inside the case it is possible something got nudged loose. Re-seat your memory and video card if it is an add-on.

My Envy 23 has no video no bios. The fan starts and cd starts but no lights on the keyboard. I have seen alot of messages about this on this board lately but no solutions. I took the hard drive out to back it up and it was slow and getting some bad sectors. so that may be the problem. after the scan I was able to back it up on another machine.  I have tried all the other suggestions about hitting f10 and windows+B but the keyboard lights are not on and that is not likely to work. Can I get a real answer from a technician who has seen and fixed this problem. There are too many of these on this board and no one is getting a real answer.

Last night, I was updating my HP Envy M6 bios. As, I was updating the bios, my laptop suddenly shutdown. Afterwards, when I powered on my laptop, it didn't work. I tried many times but failed. The warranty of my laptop is over. Then, I went to local laptop reparing shop. The repairer said that, "We will install the new bios in bin format on the eeprom chip inside the laptop. We download the bios bin format files from  http://www.laboneinside.com/hp-envy-m6-bios-bin/ After installing the bios bin on the eeprom chip your laptop will start working properly". Hi, I'm running Windows 10 64bit Creators Version on an HP Envy 17. I noticed a Bios upgrade available (file name 79747.exe) and went to install it, but the program doesn't update the bios. Everything seems to work fine as far as the program extracting and then preparing itself. It says "restart required" to complete the process, but when the computer reboots, it does so normally...in other words, there is no update process, it just goes to the Win 10 load screen and everything boots up like normal. I have verified that the bios version has not been updated. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am talking about normal Bios and not the UEFI. I recently updated to Win 10 anniversary Seen an upgrade to my Bios http://support.hp.com/my-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-envy-750-100-desktop-pc-series/8499646/model/8819...which was A0.16 Rev.A. Installed it and it reset my settings. I need to get back in there to turn back on my Virtual Technology. Otherwise I can only create 32 bit VM's in VirtualBoxhttps://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/how-to-access-BIOS-to-enable-th... Cannot get back in to normal Bios. I tried Tap the ESC which worked before, screen hangs and I hit enter and the HP logo comes up, tried hitting and also tapping F10. All these as I turn power on. I have a Logitech K800 wireless keyboard which worked before. I have tried a plain usb keyboard making sure they were on the USB 2.0 port. F2 will bring up the UEFI bios from a cold boot. Them Win 10 things don't get me there Settings, Recovery, Advanced. Tried all of them I was hoping HP had fixed the getting into Bios thing with that Bios update so installed it. This thing has been a pain as far as that otherwise I'd be a happy camper with this PC, how come you can't fix this HP?

A:Cannot get into Normal Bios on the 750-124 Envy

BIOS and Windows 10 are very different things. You have a UEFI BIOS, not "normal", as you call it. I suspect you may mean what is called a legacy BIOS. You cannot access legacy BIOS because it is not present in your desktop PC. BIOS is firmware and an operating system is software. If this issue in getting to the startup menu happened after you updated the BIOS, then I suggest that you enter the PC UEFI Diagnostics  menu (with the F2 key) and use the Firmware Management section to rollback to a previous BIOS.

I have two Envy 23" systems, one rarely used and one often used. Rarely used one starts getting 100% disk utilization. Wasn't being search indexed, Windows defender wasn't the culprit, checkdsk checked out, and virtual memory wasn't a problem. I spent a lot of time trying to find what was wrong with no luck. I didn't use it much and noticed some days I would come to office and it would have reset in the night and had a No Boot Disk error on a screen of black. I would push power button to turn off, then turn it on and it would come up fine, but still have problems with high disk utilization. One day I pushed the power button to restart it and it never came back on. No BIOS post or anything. Fan whirs, light near power plug displays, but no BIOS. I looked for answers and tried pushing F10 and F5 to get into BIOS blindly and reset, no luck. I tried the WindowsKey+B to recover the BIOS, no luck. I finally broke down and got approval to buy new PC. Then a week later my coworker who has the same exact system I do starts to have disk utilization issues. Then the No Boot Disk messages. Then he couldn't get it to POST or enter BIOS. So now we have two dead Envy's and corporate won't buy a second box. I have a feeling the hard drive died, but I have no idea why I can't get into BIOS. Anyone have any ideas? --John

Greetings, I recently purchased a HP Envy 750-427c as an upgrade to my older HP desktop. It comes with Windows 10(64 bit).  I went to check the HP Support Assistant for updates and found that I have 3 Bios updates. Thinking that the Bios updates were for my specific computer, I went ahead and updated the fist Bios listed( I should have written down the Bios description). The update went on smoothly. When I attempted to update the second Bios, it stated that the Bios is not a match for my system( not the exact wording but close). I cancelled the update when I saw that. Now my question is why the 3 Bios updates? Should I continue the updates even though it states that it is not a match? Thanks

My laptop runs really HOT !.

The spec of my laptop is quite high, and when I initially brought it I did so in mind of playing
medium level games. The spec is:

2011 Envy 17 2101ea
HD6850M
i7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz (8 CPUs)
6144MB RAM

The issue is and has always been it runs hot, which by reading various forums is a problem with this machine.

So I have given up gaming and just use for work and videos (if I can without over heating).

However it even runs hot just watching You Tube or twitch, right now in CPUID Hardware monitor it is running (while watching twitch) at between 70 to 85 degrees. I have used compressed air to keep vents clear - but with no real help).

The machine has switchable graphics, between on board and the HD6850M.

So I really need help in considering how I can investigate further, of course happy to upload further info as instructed.

Thanks !

A:HP Laptop (Envy 17) running hot

A cooling pad might help some but there really is not much you can do for a poorly designed laptop. HP has had several including the DV-6000 series for which they lost a class action suit.

After a Bios update through the HP Center, the laptop (HP Envy 15 CTO notebook, model 15t-j000, product C8P48AV, running windows 10) won't start fully, with nothing displaying on the screen. The power button lights up, along with a quick blink of the caps lock and the wifi orange light on F12 lights up. On the side of the laptop, the power led is on, and the storage light is on when used. The cooling fan initially spins up, then down, and comes on again a little later. There are no beeps that I hear. Things seem fine, except that nothing comes up on the screen at all. It also doesn?t work with an external monitor off of the HDMI port.  I have tried following the info at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01997899 by making a recovery Bios USB drive with F.68 Rev A (I believe this is the version the HP Center was updating the machine to), and holding down win-B at boot, but there's been no change. (similar bios recover info is at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02693833 )  I have also taken out the battery for a hard reset.  Any suggestions? This machine was working fine before the update, and I don?t have any reason to think it is a HW issue. I now have a windows 7 machine working to make recovery drives or connect to it directly, if that would help. And I have other Unix/Mac systems. Thanks

Hi, I have a HP Envy 17 j199ez wtih (latest) F.68 Rev.A Bios. Is there a whitelisting present in the BIOS preventing installation of non-preapproved mPCIE cards? Hi I have just today updated the Bios from F.25 to F.26 HP Envy M6 1178saRunning Windows 8.1    Link for Drivers below:http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-m6-1100-Notebook-PC-series/5296045/model/531... The notebooks powers on, but doesn't boot. Just a black screen... No error messages, justa few ticks and you can hear the fan going on then off. I bet the Bios is corrupted as I am unable to boot from any other source. USB or Disc. I also have the Caps Lock button flashing slowly. Any help will be appreciated!

A:Recover BIOS on HP Envy M6 1178sa

Solved!!! 1.) Disconnected HDD, Cmos Battery, RAM, and DVD drive. 2.) Drain power by keeping the power button in for 20 secs 3.) Then restart the Notebook again. (all still disconnected) 4.) You won't see any changes... Power off - Notebook after a few seconds. 5.) Reinstall RAM and CMOS battery. 6.) Power on Notebook. message on screen: "Request to install HDD with OS" (Already an improvement) 7.) Install HDD and DVD drive 8.) Restart notebook. 9.) Notebook starts same way it always have.  *******    Don't update the BIOS unless you are prepared for potential issues.  *****

Hi. I have HP ENVY 17 j152-nr. It has UEFI BIOS Insyde F.65, 20.11.2014. Also it has Wireless module rt3290 that works very bad last time. I want to replace it on newer module. My question is: does this BIOS has whitelist of wireless cards or I can replace it without problems?

A:HP ENVY 17 j152-nr BIOS whitelist

I can speak directly to this. I had the 17t-j029nr HP loaned me a few years back which is an even earlier model and I can speak from experience that it had no whitelist so 100% sure yours does not either. You can install any wireless card of the same form factor.  Mine had 2 antennae and I think yours does too but you will want to check that before trying to install a dual band dual channel card.  Post back with any more questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Am trying to use the BIOS update for windows 8.1 to my Envy (Windows 10) to F.36 Rev.A. Everytime I launch the executable downloaded from the site (SP66863.exe) it wants to backup the existing bios config to a flash drive and never gets to installing the bios upgrade. How do I get past this to install/flash the actual BIOS?

I was able to find an image which shows where the clr cmos\password jumpers are, but I do not know where the jumpers should be moved.  Take a closeup digital photograph of the section above the SATA portys and post it here please.
