Solved: Last Access file date attribute worthless?

Q: Solved: Last Access file date attribute worthless?

With any file management tool I've ever used that attempts to show the date/time of the last file access, all I ever see is the time I used the tool to view the last access time stamp. In other words, checking the last access time counts as an access. Duh! What good is that?

Is there any tool or trick to allow you to determine the last access date/time OTHER THAN the time you access the file to ask the question?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is it possible to check the archive attribute on a file with DOS?
I have a series of directories that need to have their files deleted once the archive attribute has been removed i.e. in Windows Explorer under the Attribute column the 'A' has disappeared.

How would one go about checking. I can gather a list of the file names in the directory. I assume that it would be the command

Code:
If not exist [archive attribute] (
delete file)
However I may be barking up the wrong tree.
Has anyone any experience with this?

Hi Tigers!. . .

Welcome back to the Tech Support Forum!

I like that name "directories" - Good Stuff!

I may be missing something here, but why do you first ned to remove the -A attribute prior to deletion? Or are you trying to delete all files without the -A? If so ... what about -S, -H, etc...?

I have a folder that contains profile backups for a bunch of users. It's a fairly simple file structure:

E:\Users
E:\Users\User1
E:\Users\User1\My Documents
E:\Users\User1\My Documents\file2.file
E:\Users\User1\My Documents\file3.file
E:\Users\User1\Pictures
E:\Users\User1\file1.file
E:\Users\User2
And so on.

What I'm trying to achieve is that the folders for User1, User2, etc. have Date Modified attributes that reflect the most recent of any file or folder within it. Currently, I have a number of User folders that have a modified date of sometime in 2008, while its respective subfolders have modified dates much more recent than 2008. I just want to be able to take a quick glance at the top level folders and see what the most recent date modified is for any of its contents.

Is this possible?

Thank you very much.

I have a Date/Time field that I need converted to just a Time field.

It comes back with 2/11/12 0:00:00

I need just the 2/11/12

I thought about changing it to a text field but I think there will be an issue with the month because it does not bring back a 0 in from the months with only 1 digit.

This table that I am creating is being sent to a txt file and that is where I see the issue. It looks good in Access, but not the txt file.

Any suggestions?

I have this issue that it's quite important for me.
In Windows 7 my downloaded files get different timestamps than in WinXP.

For example, let's assume that on 1.1.1970 I add a a file to eMule's download queue. eMule creates a temporary .part file, stored in "Temp" folder.
Let's assume again that the file has been completely downloaded on 2.2.2010.
The downloaded file will be saved in "Incoming" folder.

In WinXP, the downloaded file would have "2.2.2010" in the Date Created field, but in Win7, it would have "1.1.1970".

This would seriously mess up my files, especialy that I have thousands of sorted pictures.

Is there anything I can do about it?

A:Win7 vs. WinXP - "Date Created" Attribute

All the information is there it is just being displayed differently. Windows XP displays the date the file was last accessed, and Windows 7 displays the date the file was created. You can adjust what you would like Window 7 to display and get the same results. Change Windows 7 to display last accessed.

This is particularly noticeable with audio and image files - but I often have identical file names in different formats or sizes.
Is there a way to make the .wav or .mp3 etc suffix visible and more importantly - can I edit it and sort by type?

Hi catstevecam and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes you can display the file extension. In explorer select Organize->Folder and search options. On the view tab uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
If you right click on an empty area in a folder you can chose sort and grouping options. Type is one of these.

You can change the attributes of some file types (Music & Videos) in the properties details tab.

Hello to all and Happy New Year,

I have very strange problem, I have found virus on my USB stick which my Mcafee antivirus succesfully cleaned. Is there any other way to change this "hidden" attribute?

Several months ago I got a new laptop with Win 7 Pro SP1 64bit. I have done numerous backups on this machine but I've noticed that the file attribute 'archive bit' (a) is not being reset as it was on Win XP. (NOTE: backups were full backups not incremental or differential.)

Does Win 7 treat file attribute bits differently than XP?

I also have noticed that 7 displays various attribute bits that were not used in XP; where is there a description of all attribute bits?

A:File Attribute 'Archive' Bits not being reset

Are you on a homegroup by any chance?

I've read some MS answers that flat out say that the archive bit is no longer available in windows 7 (but I think they mean reliably usable rather than not available in the strict sense). To others saying that the homegroup networking is using it for it's own purposes (probably for it's own built in backup) and it interferes with other people/programs using it.

Personally I have not looked into it though.

I believe that the base "dos" attributes are the same as always though: Read Only, Archive, Hidden and System. Of course NTFS itself has (and has always had) a much more extensive access control system in place for all folders and files...

My families vista system got infected with malware(Antimalware doctor) and (as the computer had already been restarted twice by this point anyway) I elected to attempt to remove the offending files from safe mode. I deleted the registry keys first with relative success but had more trouble hunting down the offending files. In the end I found the filepath in a shortcut but found that the folders in question were hidden. After making the hidden files visible folder by folder for I while I decided to accelerate the process and told it to make all hidden files visible. As this was the case with my own computer, I didn't anticipate any problems but after a 3 min long "attribute change" suddenly all the files in the relevant users account had disappeared, rather than being joined by a few previously hidden folders.(In fact, aside from a previously open window, the account as a whole had disappeared). According to the windows accounts page, the account in question is still there and using a sizable chunk of hard disk space, but I can find no other evidence of it or the files.

My only two theories right now are :
1. Somehow I accidentally made all of the contents of the account be listed as hidden files - I consider this one very unlikely, as one vista dialogue(which I have used many times before) would probably not be capable of that effect.

2. Some self-defense action of the malware. The malware has already prevented use of the internet or the running of any progra... Read more

Can anyone give me a hand with this? I have imported some data into Access with dates written in the form mddyyyy (for Feb 14, 2005 it gives 2142005 and for Dec 25, 2006 it gives 12252006) i.e. they can be 7 or 8 digits long and are not formatted. The field is [date needed].

What I would like to do is show the records containing the date on a form sorting them in reverse chronological order. I set up a query to get the data from the table and set up my subform and then it seems I would have to dissect the date into year, month and day portions and sort each of them. [Maybe there's a way to handle dates like this built in but I do not know] It's easy enough to get the year with the right function as in Year: Right([date needed],4) but the days and months are a little more difficult since the leading month can be either 1 or 2 digits. Note that the days are always two digits i.e. 01 for the first of the month. If the month is 1-9 then there are 7 digits in the date and the month is the first character and the days are characters 2 and 3. If the month is 10, 11 or 12 then the month is the first two digits and the day the second two.

My question is whether this is the right way to do it and can a query field use some sort of if/then/else statement with the len function. What would it look like? If this could be done then I could use the Left function to get the month (i.e. first digit only when len = 7 and first two digits when len=8) and the mid function for the da... Read more

Office 2003 SP1 with Access 97 SR2

When opening a certain Access database a user is recieving this error:
Function isn't available in expressions in query expression '(((PRODUCTION.DATECREATE)=Date())'.

This only happens on a specific computer. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office, Access, I've even tried just installing Office 97. I also went through and reinstalled all the ActiveX controls that have to do with the date (MSCAL.ocx gives us trouble sometimes).

I'm not that familiar with the programming for the database, it was done quite some time before I got here, but I know enough to understand what is happening. I think the problem lies with the Date() function (this still happens as admin on her machine so it isn't a permissions error) but I have no idea how to fix it.

I remember reading something not long ago about a similar issue that had to do with differing versions of library files for VBA. I was going to try and replace the library file containing that function on her machine with one from mine, until I found that it apparently isn't stored in a file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at my wits' end with this thing.

Hi there

I know how to do add a criteria to a Query. For example in the QBE pane in design view in the criteria row I enter this statement: Between [Start Date] And [End Date]. This is a database that will be used by multiple users, and one of the fields is called "Date last updated". I have imported the data and locked the fields that shouldn't be changed (thanks to a reply to a previous post on here). I thought it would be straightforward just to add =NOW() to the field on the form, but that doesn't make any difference. I have also tried setting the default value of the field in the original table to =NOW() and "binding" the field in the table to that. Doesn't work either! Does anyone know how I can do this?

I also have another question for you....see my other post!!!

Thanks

Ed

Is it possible to have a comment field in a form so that after a comment is made an after update procedure would insert the username and date on the front end of the comment? Something like "username, 1/16/11: Comment......"

If new comments are made then it would be added and a new username and date would be added so that all the comments would be tracked along with username and date?

That way if multiple managers make a comment it would denote who made them and not just whoever did the last comment as I have it now.

My field name is MGR_Comments

Thanks, Joe

Hi there people.
Im having (yet another) Ms Access issue.
All the dates on my DB are just showing as a row of hash symbols, untill i click on the field, when it will then show the date its supposed to.
But as soon as you click away from that field it goes back to showing a row
of hash symbols.
Any ideas how to stop this?
Thanks alot!

For tracking sales i need to get the following formula for Access.

Example:

Nov 20th sales end date. I need the sunday after this date. So Nov 20th becomes Nov 24th. Then I need to take today's date and compare against this date. (which i can do <Now()-14)

But how do I get Nov 20th to become Nov 24th? and for this to work for all dates?

A:Solved: Access - need to find the next Sunday after a date

I got this to work in excel with A1 being the date entered =A1+(8-WEEKDAY(A1)). I assume similar could be coded in access.

Hello,

I'm relatively new to access and need a bit of help (more like a lot).

I have a table that lists record id's, inspection purposes, and inspection dates (looks like this):

1234 Routine 3/30/2013
4567 Investigation 1/20/2013
4567 Routine 2/20/2013
7890 Approval 12/21/2012
7890 Routine 1/12/2013

I want to recover the maximum date for each record id (without duplicate records). I want the result to look like this:

1234 Routine 3/30/2013
4567 Routine 2/20/2013
7890 Routine 1/12/2013

Can anyone explain to me how this can be done?

Thanks much!

Hi,

I believe this is a really easy thing to do but i can not get it to work,

I have a table that contains a name and the dates that they are on holiday. i am wanting to have a query that will show me everyone who is on holiday in February.

I thought this was simple but i have not been able to get it to work, i think i am missing something really really simple.

I have attached a copy of the table, the table is part of a college project and all data is fictional.

The attachment is zipped so it could be attached

Thanks
James

A:Solved: Access 2007: date Query

James, to find all dates for February can be done in 2 ways, you can use from the 1st (startdate) to the 29th or 28th (eneddate) and then type in the Query Criteria Row
between 01/02/2008 and 29/02/2008
or you could use the Date part or date Format to extract February form you date and then compare it to February, but that only works if you have one years worth of data.
I can't help with your zipped file as I do bnot have Access 2007.

Hi
I have a situation where the date could be null, when this occurs I want to populate it with todays date. My code is
If Minutes = 0 Then ' no minutes found - shout at them !
date1 = pdb!lateminutesreminder (declared as Dim date1 as date
MsgBox "LATE MINUTES REMINDER NO 10" & date1
If pdb!lateminutesreminder Is Null Then
MsgBox " is the error earlier or later? "
Set pdb!lateminutesreminder = "#" & Date & "#"
Else

I get an error on date1 = pdb!lateminutesreminder (i put this in to see why it objected to my if statement. I get error 424 object required on the if statement - if the date is null I want to populate it, if it is not I want to check the next date - the fact that it is NULL is valid. What am I missing here? I've tried making a value called mydate with todays date in it, but the error is with the database field that is null.

Is it possible to design a query so that it prompts the user to enter 2 dates (eg: a start date and end date) in order to retreive data entered between those dates for a report?

This will retrieve payments made in between two dates, in order to prepare a deposit. It will never be a set time period, which is why I need to prompt the user for this information.

I may have to look into flagging payments as deposited, if thats not too complicated (say the secretary did a deposit at 3pm and people came to pay after 3pm). Is this possible?

Is there a way to verify a date entry before it is added to a record in a table?

For example, here is a typical record entry in my table "GH-11/25/2008". However, I have had entries that look like this "GH-011/6/2008".

Is there a way to verfiy the format before the entry can be made into the table? Would I use the validation rule option?

Hello,
I'm new to Access (2000), and I'm having problems setting a criteria.

I need to be able to run a report based on a licence expiry date entered onto a form.

I need to be able to run a monthly report which will tell me who's licence is due to expire in 4 months time. Currently, I am using the following:

Between#03/06/2009#And#03/10/2009#

but I have to amend the expression to extend the date range each month, rather that it automatically "counting back" from the expiry date.

I hope this makes sense and you are able to help me!!

Hi to All!

I have a database of vendors. 2 of the fields are "Exp_Month" & "Exp_Yr". The data for "Exp_Month" is entered as "JAN" etc. The data entered for "Exp_Yr" is "01", etc. This was uploaded from a program called ADPICS and imported into Access.

I am trying to generate a report that will give me all vendors who will expire in 90 days. I was tying to make this happen in a query then would base my report off the query. But I'm having trouble with proper syntax for the date and year.

Will someone please help me??? THANKS!!!!!

Hi.
On a Access form, I'd like to have a control that identifies how long the database has been in operation.
I'd like to be able to say that today is so many years, months & days since a specified date. Better yet, would be to include hours and minutes, or hours to 2 dps.

At present I can only count days, using:
=Date()-#13/02/99#+1 & " days"

I know I can use the DateDiff function as an alternative, and then I can specify the interval, e.g. I could specify hours as the interval and it would return the number of hours that have passed since that date.
But is there a way to specify multiple intervals?
I want it to return:

2 years, 1 month & 6 days

but certainly not:

2 years, 25 months & 761 days

which I imagine it would, if I entered all arguments into a single text box, using yyyy,mm,dd.

Someone on the Access Programmers site said that I should use DateDiff and then compute what I want from that result.

Does this mean I need to do separate controls for each interval?
And how would I 'compute' them?
