Audio combo jack ideapad 305

Q: Audio combo jack ideapad 305

Hi all, New to the forum and hopefully someone can help me out. I'm trying to setup a system that will allow me to record meetings. The setup has the mics and speakers going into a mixing desk. I can get the sound to come out of the laptop into the mixing desk and out the speakers fine, but when I try to hook up the mixing desk so that the sound is coming into the laptop using a combo audio adapter the quality is just unusable. What I need is:The ability to play audio from the laptopRecord audio on the laptop through the built-in mic isn't good enough quality. It will also be used for Skype so that people who are at home can join a call and hear the meeting. Anyone got any idea on what's wrong going wrong? If the audio jack isn't going to do it what are my other options? Thanks Alex

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need to record audio direct to mp3 on a regular basis on my Ideapad 510, which has a combined audio input/output jack. My signal source is a line output from a mixer. I have tried just plugging this in, but there is no input option on record other than the laptop's internal microphone. Although it does record, the sound is very distorted, presumably as it is only picking up from the internal mic.I understand the answer is to use a splitter to plug the line-in cable into - however there are many available, and they appear to be wired differently. Can anyone tell me the correct wiring for this combi jack, and does anyone know of a commercially available product that will do the job. I have looked at Headset Buddy website, but not sure which product would be the right one for this laptop. I know that a usb audio interface would also do the same job, but a splitter cable is a much cheaper alternative.

I am currently using an Asus laptop with windows 8.
The laptop only has 1 usb port and an audio combo jack.

I have bought several headsets with mics with either the combo audio cable or one with the 2 cables and used s connector to plug them in to the audio jack and the mic won't work. The headphones work fine and sound great but no matter what I do it will only pick up the mic that comes installed on the laptop.

This is not a problem if I use the usb port but that is no longer an option since the tracpad has stopped working.

I've tried several solutions I've seen posted on the forms and so far nothing has worked. Is this a lost cause for me?

How is the microphone jack on the front panel wired? I was told this jack works as Microphone and LINE IN. Is the jack a 3-pole stereo jack or 4-pole jack? If it is 4-pole, does it comply with CTIA standard wiring (Ring2 is common and Sleeve is microphone)?

I have just bought a HP Pavilion 15 n-278sa laptop. It comes with a single 3.5mm port which is used for both audio out and line in. The laptop will work fine when outputting sound through the jack and a pair of headphones. However when i try to use the same port as a line in to record sound from an external device i am having some problems. I am trying to connect my mixer to the laptop using a standard lead, red & white one end and 3.5mm jack on the other. At first I was not getting any change whatsoever under the Recording tab in Sound settings. It just says 'not plugged in' under the microphone. After doing some research I found that the lead I was using, a 3 section plug, would not work and that was the reason there was no change when i plugged it in. I bought a 4 section plug & eureka, the laptop recognised the lead & showed this on the Recording tab. I thought my problem was sorted but this was not the case at all. As soon as I plug the red & white end of the lead into the output on the mixer, the laptop screen displays the 'not plugged in' message again as though I have unplugged the lead at the 3.5mm jack end. This makes no sense to me whatsoever?!? How can it recognise the lead is plugged in with no problems but then go back to not recognising it as soon as the other end is plugged into an external output?! Surely there must be a way of rectifying this as currently its impossible to record any sound on the laptop from... I've just got a new 5567. As mentioned in other threads I do have the stiff jack issue but is fine once you get the knack. I had originally Disabled Waves MaxxAudioPro to reduce what was running but Enabled it again which means I get a pop up screen when I plug something in asking if it is say mic OR headphones. I have an external splitter lead which claims to handle both mic AND headphones. Is this feasible on this machine? Way round is a USB audio device.
For me the reason this is crucial is at my church. My old laptop had 2 jacks In and Out. We could say play a backing track which goes OUT to a mixer desk and then comes back In with vocals added for recording. Any other ideas?
Thanks

andrewdeacon51I get a pop up screen when I plug something in asking if it is say mic OR headphones
There is no option to select "headset"?
In addition to the popup, open the Windows Sound dialog, on the recording tab, and make sure that "microphone" is enabled and selected as the default device.

andrewdeacon51I have an external splitter lead which claims to handle both mic AND headphones.
The splitter is supposed to work that way, but very often the mic part of them won't work. It could be because laptop audio ports sense the presence of a microphone by its impedance, and the adapter could be interfering with that process.
andrewdeacon51Way round is a USB audio device.
A usb interface or audio jack would be a good workaround, because then you eliminate bothl the problem with the Realtek/Waves popup, and the problem of using an adapter with the combo jack.

That setup in combination with a combo jack is less than ideal. Even if you get the microphone function of the combo jack to work, it is still just a mic jack and would produce a mono recording. On your old laptop, the audio input jack might have doubled as a mic jack and a line-in jack. Most of the Dell laptops used to have that feature. Modern laptops no longer... Read more

My laptop only has one combo audio/microphone jack, and I can't get the microphone to work at all. I just bought a new headset that came with an audio/microphone splitter specifically for the purpose of using it on this laptop. While the output works fine, the microphone input is absolutely ignored.

I am 100% positive this is an audio/microphone splitter (and not just an audio splitter) as it has 3 rings on the end of it (indicating that it is compatible with using a microphone), and one of the input jacks even has a microphone icon on it. Realtek Settings are nowhere to be found in Control Panel, and I couldn't seem to find anything in the system sound settings that would help me either.

I've already spent money on this new headset, so as you can imagine I'm pretty frustrated that this is not working, and I really, really don't want to spend any more money. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am one of those unfortunate souls with a laptop that has a single jack both for audio output and microphone input. When I plug a lapel mic into it, the computer doesn't even notice it's there, and keeps making me use its crummy internal mic. How do I persuade it to check to see if maybe I have an external mic plugged in? If I had a dedicated mic input jack, I am fairly confident it would work.

I've heard a lot of people struggle with this single-jack thing. What do I do? Thanks.

Mine seems to be working.. I tested it with the Voice Recorder.  The volume levels did not show in the Recording devices dialog window.  If you have a specific utility, someone may have experience with it..
The Jack was a little hard to plug in, possibly first use but there should be not barrel of the plug showing.  When you plug it in the popup allows you to choose the Headphones and size then hit OK.  The system will sense a microphone is available.

I have a new laptop (and see specs) that I'm slowly learning to use and I'm having a problem inserting the 3.5mm combojack (CJ) into the jack's receptacle, has anyone ran across this?

I'm pretty sure I can't hear sound from the earbuds because when I have the CJ in as far as I dare the sound continues to play from the CD thru the laptops speakers and as long as I've been using devices like this, the sound stops coming from the main speakers when you plug in the jack and you have to use what you plugged in, in order to listen to what you're playing on the optical drive.
This is as far as I dare but it still sticks out a 1/16th of an inch; That's a wireless mouse dongle to the left of the CJ, that went in okay, a bit snug, but okay:

The power adapter plug acted the same way, went in 3/4 of the way but I had to use more force than I wanted to, to insert the last 1/16 of an inch, I know I'm going to have to use more force on the CJ than the power plug to finish inserting the CJ, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else ran across this before I made an attempt.

A:Earbud Combo-Jack won't fit.

The Lenovo site doesn't detail exactly what type of jack you have. It is listed as "combo jack". That could mean it can either be a headset OR mic jack, depending on what is plugged in. It could also mean it is the same type of jack that is on an iPhone that will take a combination Tip, Ring, Ring, Sleeve type plug for BOTH headset and mic.

As this is new, I would contact Lenovo support before going any further.

Well my jack is broken since a few months so no joy for me... I hate it now when I can't listen to my music on my 14 speakers in my room. (NO KIDDING LOL) And today I was thinking about... HDMI... Audio?! Yes, but - I don't want to cut my only one hdmi cable which my parents use. So, I thought maybe my USB 2.0 port can emit audio, I have some spare USB cables lying to throw out, could I make it possible to connect a 3.5mm jack with the USB to the white and green cables? (USB pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru) I don't care if it will be mono sound or stereo, I just want sound in my speakers again
Also I don't know If I had to post this in the Hardware & Devices section but I personally think this question fits better here.

P.S.: I think I'll need some software.. if yes: I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits SP1 on a Acer Aspire 5742G Intel i3 370m 2.4ghz , 4 gb ddr3 ram, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5470 512 M GDDR3, 2 free usb ports on the right side, 1 for the mouse on the left, HDMI Ethernet and VGA on the left side (+ power source adapter which also was broken but I've fixed it).

Edit2:
Btw, I don't want to(Well.... Can't) spent any $$$ on any adaptors now...

Edit3:
Well else I will have to get the screwdriver, openup the laptop and connect some wires to the laptop speaker... But that's the last thing I want to do. If nothing else will help.

Anyone knows if the microphone/headset combo jack on ThinkPad P50 is a TRRS jack (Tip/Ring/Ring/Sleeve)? What I tried to do is to connect ThinkPad P50 with iPhone 6 so that one side's output is the other side's input.  So I can record the audio. From my research, iPhone's jack is TRRS spec.  I can easily find TRRS splitter on eBay, for example, here's a splitter with female plugs: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371299679312 If ThinkPad P50 is using the same TRRS spec, I can just buy another TRRS splitter with male plugs. Thanks!

A:X1 Carbon combo headphone/mic jack does not work

Hi Dave0888,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per your query we understood that you are facing the issue with Audio port on ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

Please set the default setting on Realtek High Definition audio application from control panel.
If you are unable to find the application or set the application, please download the driver from Lenovo Support page and install it.

Also please download ThinkVantage System Update utility and install it, and after installing it please run the application so that it will check for the latest drivers and automatically install it.

After installing all the application please restart the system and check it once.

Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hey guys, I've been looking everywhere for a solution to this: Headphones Working Fine, Mics aren't...But totally no luck. I can see that a lot of people are having this problem and posting it on various forums, without any valid solutions or workarounds.
The Problem: Asus Laptop with Windows 8.1 with only one audio input won't read any external Headphone's MIC.
Description:
1. The Internal MIC works fine and it works everytime even when I plug in an external one.
2. When I plug in external headphone (Headphone's got 2 jacks, black which is for sound and red which is for recording) into the Only ONE audio input there is, Windows gives a popup with its current Audio devices plugged in but it just wont read the MIC. This is what pops up when I plug in the external MIC or headphone.

3. Now, When I go to the lower right corner and select Recording Devices from the sound panel, it won't show any external or added device when I plug in the new device. It would just show my internal MIC and something called Stereo MIX, but not my Microphone.

4. Okay, Now when I check Device Manager, and try to update all the Realtek Audio drivers it would just say "everything is latest with latest drivers installed", which is obvious since Windows 8.1 has bundled everything with my laptop.

5. Now you must be thinking of a solution like since my headphone has 2 wires (the red and the black), why not use a Audio Splitter which looks something like this... , I even bought ... Read more

The splitter you show will not work with a PC. Its designed for an iPhone, PS4, etc. A PC plug is only Tip, Ring and Sleeve. The one you show is Tip, Ring, Ring, Sleeve. A PC microphone requires +5VDC, which is on the Ring connection to work.

Usually, PC's with only one jack, can be either but not both.

A:Audio jack stuck in PC input jack...?

You will need to get the broken piece out. Sometimes a strong magnet will dislodge it. Some RealTek's have a control panel that will allow you to reassign jacks, but I don't know if that will even do you any good.

If you have one it will be located in Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

Here is a snapshot of my audio devices - and as you can see the speakers and headphones are under one device so I can't switch between the two..

A:Audio jack stuck in PC input jack...?

There is a contact switch inside that audio port that switches the built in speakers off when a jack is inserted.
This is a physical switch so the issue is hardware. I doubt there will be any software solution for it.

So your mission is to remove that broken jack. If you are uncomfortable taking a laptop apart you might consider taking it to a repair shop.

A:how do I switch micro jack to a audio jack

Some, but not all, have the capability to reallocate jacks. If you have RealTek, the RealTek HD Audio Manager that is located in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound Panel is where its located (but not on all RealTek's). If you have some other on-board audio check to see if there is a simi;ar Audio Manager and the options.

If there is no jack reassignment available for your PC/motherboard you can use the rear Speaker jack for headphones. Some also have a "Line Out" and you can also use that for the headphones.

Does the "audio combo jack" on the Lenovo G710 conform to the CTIA or the OMTP standard? That is, is it left/right/gnd/mic or left/right/mic/gnd? And why is this information so hard to find?

Hello,

I use Audacity to record from various analogue sources, using the line-in capability of the combo socket.
With the latest Windows 10 update, this is gone.
Line-in doesn't appear in the recording devices list of the audio mixer nor the list in Audacity.
I have re-installed Realtek drivers and the drivers from the Toshiba site but the fault remains.
Has anybody else had the same problem and has anybody found a solution?
Thanks,
PCPlod

Hello,

I have just bought the above laptop and need to use a headset for talking to my colleagues. My headset has two separate standard microphone and headphone leads, but my laptop has only one socket. Whenever I plug either into the laptop, something called SmartAudio pops up asking if it's a headphones, headset or a microphone.

I don't seem to be able to get it to work so that I can use both the headphones/microphone together, even when I select headset.

Does anyone know what I need to do please?

Can anyone provide an explanation of how the Line-in/Microphone Combo Jack on the rear panel of the OptiPlex 990 USFF (actually the same on all 990 models) is configured?
See http://clascsg.uconn.edu/download/specs/O990.pdf  page 9 item #17 for a photo.
Is there a special plug that goes into this jack to split the 2 devices?
Is the jack stereo or mono?
Is it really just one input with a large voltage input range?

Thanks,
Terry Muskoff
