Preferred Solution: My keyboard doesn't work properly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I have an Asus R510D laptop, which originally came w/ Windows 8 installed. I downgraded to Windows 7, and the very first time I booted, everything was fine. Ever since then, after boot, at the login screen, the keyboard does not allow me to type my password. However, I am able to use the function keys, which is the workaround I've found for this issue.

After booting and reaching the login screen, I must put the keyboard to sleep, then awaken it, for the keyboard to function properly. I've tried updating the driver, but it doesn't solve the issue. I was wondering if anyone had come across an issue like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The keyboard on my Lenovo Yoga 3-1470 suddenly stopped working properly. It'll somewhat respond when I type - for example if I write a sentence then perhaps two letters will appear on the screen or if I hold down a key for around 15 seconds it'll also appear, but otherwise not. Do I need a new keyboard or is there something else I can do? Can it be due to a driver error or something?

I have no idea what my sister and her friends were doing on the comp for a couple of days that i decided not to use it, but now:

- a few programs take forever to load or don't load at all, but they do show up under the processes tab in the task manager
- after pressing Ctrl Alt Del, the task manager icon appears in the system tray, but the thing only shows up a minute later
- my system recovery is "not able to protect my computer," and restarting does nothing
- actually, when restarting or shutting down Windows, it stops at where it only shows my desktop background and cursor [which is still able to move] and nothing else after that, so i have to hold the power button and force it to shut off
- when I right click the desktop and click on "Properties..." [or something similar to this action] it doesn't show up at all, and whenever I try to open any application after that, they don't even load at all either

Things i've tried to get rid of these problems:
- Virus scan with avast!, a couple viruses found and fixed, but nothing changed.
- disk clean up, nothing changed
- registry clean, nothing changed
- CURRENTLY defragging my C drive, hope something changes..

Anyone know what the heck's going on!?
Anyone got any suggestions on what to do next?
Anything helps and would be greatly appreciated!

A:Apps not starting properly, sys. recov. doesn't work, can't shut down properly, etc..

no replies yet?

anyway, just stopped by to say that when shutting down, it takes forever to get to the "Saving your settings..." screen, and that's where I decided that it stops and nothing else after that.
Defragged my C drive, still no results besides the computer feeling a bit smoother-running o_o

Well I only noticed this now, when I tried burning the Windows 10 ISO on a DVD. The setup doesn't work, it returns an error. I also tried using Alcohol 120% to burn the image but it also fails with an error. I had a rewritable DVD lying around so I put it on my laptop, tried erasing it but that also fails.

Basically the only thing I can do with the laptops DVD-Rom/burner is reading CDs/DVDs and nothing else. This didn't happen before? I'm really bummed, as I don't know what could be causing this issue. Any help is greatly appreciated!

For the last month or so, every time I log off my account, the keyboard does not register at the Windows Log In screen. This makes it so I have to restart the computer and then it works fine.
There are three accounts on the computer, the casing has been half removed for the last 3 months, a DVD burner and driver recently installed 3 months ago and I am using a wireless off brand USB keyboard and mouse.
OS: Windows Xp Home Edition 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3
As for the second part, the computer requires several restarts to boot up, sometimes up to twenty minutes of turning on and off to boot up. Only started doing this a week ago.

A:My Keyboard doesn't work, and the computer turns on but doesn't start.

It sounds like something is wrong with your Windows XP drivers. Something like that happened to me while building my computer, and when I boot up the keyboard did not work because my copy of windows XP was bad. You could try reinstalling windows XP, and It might work better, but I dont have a definite answer to your problem.

Hi there
For a lot of people the ability to mount ISO's natively on a REAL (not a Virtual) Machine was a great addition to the basic functionality of Windows.

This worked really well on the preview edition of W8 (the one with the sideways fish at longon) but doesn't work properly on a few computers I've seen.

(This is also AFTER a brand new install -- so it's nothing to do with any user installed drivers / components).

It also only happens on machines that have an INTERNAL DVD drive too -- it doesn't happen on my Netbook for example which doesn't have a DVD drive - even when an external USB one is attached.

You get the message "XXXX couldn't be mounted" or "Error in mounting XXX" -- can't remember the actual error as I'm typing this on an Android smart phone -- having a delicious Breakfast in a nice old fashioned "Greasy Spoon" place --before it gets replaced by those odious trendy "Trattoria" or whatever.

The Iso does actually get mounted by windows explorer on to a "Virtual DVD device" correctly and can be "ejected" when you've finished with it but the error message that appears every time is very annoying even if it can be safely ignored.

I REALLY LIKE this feature - also great when you'v extracted say two or 3 DVD ISO's to a usb stick --then mounting the DVD ISO's and playing the movies.

Cheers
jimbo

Hi!
I'm about to prepare some OEM computers and have made a simple unattend.xml-file with help from the answering file sample from WAIK, but I can't get it to work properly.

I have copied the file to the root directory of an USB drive and it seemes like the installation program is reading the file (e.g. I don't have to specify an computer name when finalizing the installation) but it's not as automated that I would like it to be. I have to choose wich Windows version to install (basic, HP etc.), the disk partitions listed in the xml-file is not automated (I have to choose wich drive to use for installation), I need to confirm the license agreement, choose date and time options.

What can be wrong? I would like a clean, working autounattend.xml-file that automatically installs and also temporarily activates the administrator account so I can install updates, drivers and such and then seal everything up with sysprep.

Can anyone help me with this?
Here's my autounattend.xml file (I've deleted the OEM info):

I have used a web site, an ils website, to communicate with others. On that site, you click the name, or 'call' button, and it calls the party with netmeeting. I have an intel PC Pro camera, and loaded an update of the intel software for the camera for Windows XP. When I did, it became the default video software, and the site no longer worked as it did. I removed the intel software and now when I hit that 'call' button I get the following pop-up:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel."
When I hit the ok button, I get another that says: "Internet Explorer cannot open this helper application for callto:ils (etc). The protocol specified in this address is not valid. Make sure the address is correct and try again."

Two questoins...1. Can I create an association as it says? or 2. How can I remove netmeeting from my computer and then download it again? This is a Dell 8400 Pentium 4 with Windows XP Pro, and I don't see anything on the netmeeting website to download to XP.

How about trying opening it in compatibility mode (click the little "broken tag" icon to the right of the address bar.

Hi. This problem affects my Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 computer.
Occasionally, when I log on the computer after locking it for a long time, the keyboard acts as if the Windows Key is depressed. (Pressing E opens explorer, R opens the Run dialog, U opens Accessibility Options, etc.)

This is fixed easily by entering the security dialog (Ctrl+Alt+Del). However, once I do this, the Windows Key appears to stop functioning.
Tapping it will not open the start menu (for the record, nor will Ctrl+Esc), and none of its combinations work except Winkey+L to lock.

Can someone explain to me why this happens and how to fix it?

I have also tried to instal USB 2.0 drivers, but with Microsofts Service Pack 2, it indicates that drivers for USB 2.0 do not need to be installed and it doesn't give me the option to install them anyways.

What should I do?

Hello to all,
I'm going to install Win XP on my computer (I had win 7 but had some problem with installing the HP printer on it and so I decide to install XP because that printer seems to be installed properly on XP). Now When I put the XP CD on the CD driver, it says press a ker to boot from CD and I press the Enter key, (now the keyboard works) after that, within installation time when that I should press Enter to install XP, this time the keyboard doesn't work. My guess is that the ps/2 port of the case has problem (it's old and somewhat has been broad). Now what is the solution in your point of view please?

My system manufacturer is "ECS" and the system model is "945pl-A".

PS: there are two black & white screens which mobo shows: First screen shows the amount of RAM, the model of CPU the IDEs and info like these which is common for first screen. But the here when I want to enter to BIOS by pressing Del key, it seems that keyboard doesn't work so it doesn't go to bios. The second black & white screen shows fewer info and it says "Press shift-F10 to configure) and when I press these two I can to enter to an environment that seems to not be the BIOS, the keyboard here WORKS!!! It has very few options! And apparently doesn't have options of manipulating the keyboard settings.

I have just bought a computer with a ASUS P5GDC-V Deluxe MOB with a P5 3.0. Hard drives are two Maxtor SATA drives configured in Intel's Matrix Raid 0+1 configuration with 1GB Ram.

I can not get the integrated soundcard on the Intel 915G chipset to read the microphone. I have to nearly swallow the microphone and yell for any flicker on the meter to register. The MOB came with the C-Media 3D sound driver and software programs.

Also, and most likely related is the fact that when I tried to install and configure a US Robotics internal FAX, Data, Voice modem that the computer would lock up.

Can you help me understand what to is going on and how to fix this problem?

A:Microphone and Modem doesn't work properly

Hi,

Two things.

First of all delete all sound card references in Device manager and reload your sound drivers. Most ASUS boards require that you load sound drivers last for best operation.

The modem Issue:

Give this a try:

To to the modem manufacturer's website and download the latest and best drivers. (forget the disk that came with the modem)

Go into Start, Control Panel, System, Harware, Device Manager and remove ALL references to a modem.

Shut down and physically remove your modem and place it in PCI #3 (third slot down from the AGP port)

Enter BIOS setup menu and make sure the PnP is set to DISABLED>

Save and Exit

Reboot and when it finds the modem force feed (Don't listen to the XP message that says the best drivers are loaded) the drivers you have downloaded.

This should get you going.

I have a Samsung R580 laptop and the trackpad button doesn't work quite right. The button is a single piece button. The right clicking works just fine, but when I try to left click, it doesn't always work. I'll have to press really hard to get it to work. This has only started the last couple of weeks. I know that I probably shouldn't, but I take a thin knife and stick it in the crack surrounding the button and slide it back and forth a few times. This seems to fix the button momentarily, but only for a few seconds. After which, it goes right back to hardly working. I have no idea of what's wrong. I can use a mouse, but it's much more convienient to use the trackpad button. I can also use the trackpad it's self to tap which will do the same thing as clicking the button, but I keep clicking things I don't want to. Any ideas ? I don't know that the keyboard being dirty is causing it, as every other button works perfectly.

Good Morning.

First of all excuse me for my English, but I am Italian.

I am tryng to install Norton Goback Personal Edition, but I have some problems.

Untill two weeks ago I couldn't use this software because of a Linux Installation of my disk. Recently i have bought a new and larger disk that I have installed as the master one, installing the older one as slave. Then I have copied all the partition except the ext2 partition on the new disk. Now on my primary disk i have 3 primary partitions (Win 98 on fat32, Win2000 on NTFS5 and another NTFS5 partition) and an extended one which contains 4 other partitions (3 with FAT32 filesystem and one with NTFS5 filessystem).

Now let's talk with my problem: when I install Goback with the proper dual-boot installation method, Goback tells me that there are unsupported partitions on my primary disk: the installations finishes without problems, but Goback protects every partition exept the ones containing the operative systems: obviously this renders Goback totally useless for me.

I can't uderstand where is the problem: all the partitions on primary disk are FAT32 or NTFS5, which should be totally supported, but Goback doensn't agree. The disk is a Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 whith an 80 GB size. I know I could repartition and reformat the drive, but I would take a lot of time and I would prefer to avoid it, if possible.

Has anyone ever had a similar problem before? Is there any solution?

Thank you in advance and good... Read more

Hi,

I have run into a frustrating problem with my computer, I hope you can help:

After a failed installation of software (installer failed to edit the registry because some components were being used by other programs), I reboot the computer. After the reboot windows logon suddenly asked for a password, which never existed.

My account name is "user" and I have no password, so I simply pressed enter and Windows logged on.

The first thing I noticed was the fact that my network connections were gone, and so I am communicating with this forum through a different computer.

I decided to simply use System Restore to see if that would fix the problem. I am generally very organized, and before every software that I install, or any changes I make, I create a restore point. However, when I went to select a restore point, none were there! All the restore points I have created were gone except for one "System Checkpoint", which was created a minute before I rebooted the computer after the failed installation. Trying to restore to that point also fails. I have disabled Norton 360 before the restore, but the problem persists.

I have checked my memory settings for system restore, and it is set to maximum, 12%, 9600 MB. I don't realy know what System Restore stores in that dedicated space, but I don't think that thats the problem.

I know how to fix the winlogon password issue, but I will still be left with no network connections and the dilema of the Syste... Read more

A:Solved: After Logon XP Doesn't Work Properly

Hi,

I managed to solve this problem, by merging my registry backup with the current backup that was giving the problems, and this instantly solved the problem.

After completing a scan with Norton, (which I had disabled as I was installing the program, as I always do to avoid problems...irony..) I found a Trojan and a bunch of programs that looked innocent. The culprit was an infected version of WinRAR, that program edited the registry.

The moment I completed the scan with Norton, it immediatly pointed and quarantined the version of WinRAR as well as finding the Trojan.

Anyway the problem is solved, and from now on I will never disable Norton or any anti-virus while installing programs!

I am not sure if anyone has experienced same thing, but it is very weird to me.

I am using a Lenovo T43 laptop, and recently my both Ctrl buttons are not working properly. When I am at the desktop interface and hit the Ctrl button, my desktop will refresh. It seems that it shut down the explorer.exe and restart it.

And if I have a file explorer window opened and hit Ctrl button, the window will be closed immediately, so I can't use ctrl+c or ctrl+v to copy and paste in the file explorer. It is really annoying.

Can anyone help me on this issue? Thanks!

Hi guys,

PS: When I what to enter to BIOS, (on the top of second black and white screen it has been written that "Press shift-F10 to configure) and when I press these two I enter to an environment that seems to be the BIOS but it has very few options! I'm not sure is it BIOS, or how to go into BIOS in that motherboard.

Hiya mate ... Do not think the BIOS is going to be any help .. Read the Link below its a very long shot fourth Post down ..

Hi all, Currently i am using laptop HP Probook 450 G3-X4K55PA, i need to use Ubuntu for my work, so i installed Ubuntu 16.04. My laptop doesn't work well with this OS, when i plug a monitor via HDMI port, my laptop hangs, it can't work anymore, so i must turn off the power. When i put my laptop in sleep mode, it can't come back, it is hanged, i must turn off power to take it back. I tried to install different Ubuntu version many times, but it still has the issues. I install WIndows on my laptop, it works well. Please help to solve the issues with Ubuntu. Regards,Han.

A:My laptop doesn't work properly with Ubuntu

Hello, Welcome to the HP Support forum. Thank you for your post. I am afraid this PC officially supports Windows OS only and Linux-based like Ubuntu are not officially supported. Therefore, you may experience certain issues while with Ubuntu due to the lack of proper drivers loaded there (in the Kernel). Ubuntu 16.04 uses Kernel 4. You may try older Ubuntu versions such as with kernel 3.13/3.16/3.19 - Ubuntu 14 LTSYou can also try to post at the Ubuntu forums where Linux/Ubuntu gurus may be able to provide you with specific advice about the problem >> https://askubuntu.com/>> https://ubuntuforums.org/  An alternative option would be to install Windows as a main (host) operating system but run Linux Ubuntu as a virtual one from inside Windows using free software like Oracle VirtualBox >> https://www.virtualbox.org/>> https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Screenshots

My laptop is being a pill.

About a week ago, I tried to disable hiberation so that it could finish a defrag session without stopping in the middle. (It's set to defrag once a week at 1 am and I don't see how it ever can if it hibernates when I close the lid.) It desperately needed some clean-up, so I spent an entire day checking for viruses, malware, defragging, running CCleaner, etc. Sped it up and fixed a whole lot but in the process, I messed up some settings, apparently. Ever since I did that maintenance, when it goes into hibernation, the keyboard and mouse will NOT wake it up. The power button wakes it, sometimes, but the power button in this computer is tiny, doesn't stick up very far and it a pain for me to press. I want the mouse/keyboard to do the job again so I can save my fingernail. (Why did HP think it needed to be soooo freakin' tiny anyway? LOL! Yet another reason my next laptop will be a Del.)

I've been all over the internet looking for answers...the official Windows help pages were somewhat helpful but I'm still missing something. Yes, in the properties, it's set to allow both the mouse and keyboard to "wake" the computer but neither will do it. The help pages say to contact the manufacturer if only the power button "wakes" up a system. Weird.

This is what I want and no necessarily in this order:

1. If I close the lid, I'd like a user password prompt. (There isn't one now, as I somehow disabled it when trying get the compu... Read more

I realise this subject has just about been done to death, e.g. by Lithium on 07-06-2011, but I just have to let off steam somehow - it really doesn't seem to work! Let me explain.

I recently acquired an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop computer, with Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium pre-installed. While I was excitedly making my first investigations of Windows 7, I created another partition, labelled A:, and moved all my documents to it from C:, using the Location tab of My Documents Properties. I do this in order to have data in a different partition from the system files, in case the OS partition gets trashed for any reason.

Eventually, I needed to find a file which I knew existed amongst a certain group of folders. I was astonished when Search failed to find it, and I eventually had to track it down by hand. Since then I have established that Search will not find any files on my A: partition, no matter what folders I specify in the Included Locations on the Indexing Options dialog box. Indeed, if I select Advanced, to go to where I can force a Rebuild of the index, when I come out again Indexing Options will remove any additions I made to the search locations, and reinstate the original (not very useful now) defaults of Start Menu and Users. Even if I do a search from Windows Explorer while sitting in a folder on A: just above where I know a specific file is, Search will fail to find that file.

I have looked through stacks of forums and other help sources givi... Read more

Hi there,
Sorry, I'm not a native speaker in English, but I hope you can understand my problem.

In W7 I used programs made with Macromedia Projector Skeleton without any problems.
After the upgrading to W10, the programs made with this, have a cracking sound and some parts are only to view after moving the mouse over those spots. So, I start with black, by moving the mouse the picture shows.
I don't think its a problem with drivers: I can view and listen YouTube and it sounds normal.
So, in my opinion the problem is Projector Skeleton, but I don't know what to do to run these programs properly, as I can find no upgrade. I know that Macromedia is now part of Adobe.
Who can help?

Hi guys,

I use the Vista Home Basic, SP2 with HP EliteBook 6930p. After several months of working perfectly fine, one day the computer started working really badly. Firstly, it either took ages to logon successfully or the computer just stopped at the logon screen. One day, it suddenly worked fine until now (I have no idea why). Secondly, once the logon is successful, the computer cannot work properly in normal mode. The computer often stops responding during start-up. If the start-up is fine, the computer stops responding after several minutes or if I try to open any program.

Now, I can only use in safe mode. It's really annoying.

Can you help me?

Thank you very much.

Hi

Since upgrade to Windows 7 64 bit I can't turn the volume all the way down by using the volume control at the front of the notebook. Worked fine under Vista 32 bit.
The volume control still works but no matter how far I wind it to the left there is still sound coming from the speakers.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Warren

A:Tecra P5 - Volume control doesn’t work properly

As far as I know volume control in the past was mechanical but now it works on different way and it is controlled by specific tool/utility.
To be honest Tecra P5 is not known to me but obviously it is Australian notebook model and according to Australian support page this notebook model is not supported for Windows 7.

That doesn?t mean you cannot use it but this means there is not software package designed for Windows 7 that can be installed so I think there is no much you can do about it.

I know it is annoying but for volume control you can use Windows option placed in task bar.

Hello,

i currently own a Toshiba Satellite L755-1ED and sound is not working as it should for some weeks ago. When i try to play an audio file or a video, offline or online, sound works well for the first minutes and then suddenly disappears. I use Windows 7, and when that happens, sound is still being recognized for the system as you can see it in the volume control, but any sound comes from the speakers. However:
- If i pause the video and replay it in like 30 seconds, sound usually comes back. Also if i go to Sound Settings in +Hardware and Sound+ in the +Panel Control+, and then try to check if it works, it usually does after the first or the second attempt.
- If i use a headset sound always works perfectly.

I've already installed the last updates of my sound card and i don't know where the problem might be. Some help would be welcomed.
Thanks a lot and sorry for my English (it's not my native language).

That?s very interesting. Speakers port has small switch inside that helps notebook to ?recognize? that headphones are connected and when you connect headphones internal speakers will be disabled and sound comes through speakers only.

On some machines it is possible to switch between internal and external speakers manually

When you open control panel is there ?Realter HD audio manager? available or maybe ?Smart audio??
