I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I got this today "Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality updates. Let’s get you back on track so Windows can run more securely. Select this button to get going"

I ran several command prompts including chkdsk,  got  a repair utility to repair registery... etc,  defragmented and everything  I tried every solution found online and  I still  get this error when useing updates.  I even updated my drivers. I tried everything,  s  I even uninstalled my antivirus and tried it again.   I gave up and tried to do a reset  and also tried to whipe everything and do a reset and can not. really odd.

Any insight will be appreciated.

Also on the microsoft website I saw a security update dated 09/25/2017 ( today)  and when trying to manually update it said it did not apply to my pc.  I own a Dell Desktop all in 1 64-bit operating system Product ID 00325-95873-11633-AAOEM touchscreen 24 inch all in one

Hey there,I was having an issue with my S3-392 whereby it would not shut down or sleep.  It would just stay half on whereby the screen was black but the fan would stay on and it wouldn't fully shut down.  I eventaully managed to shut it down but when I restarted it, it wouldn't load the OS.It's out of warranty so took it to a computer repair shop who said that the OS was corrupted and would need to be reinstalled.  I agreed for them to go ahead and do this.  Since I've gotten it back I have realised that the sound volume/quality is v poor.  Obviously seeing as the reloading of the OS (Windows 10) wouldn't have had all the original Acer software/drivers then the original sound software is now gone.  Is there anywhere I can download some decent sound drivers? Also, the laptop no longer recognises my wireless mouse.  Is there something I can do about that?  Or do I just need to buy a new mouse? Many thanks!

I have a G50-80 latop which was upgraded to Win10 quite a while ago. Recently it started having trouble with hardware and software that once worked not working any longer. I decided to use the factory reset option to take the system back to Win8.1. Before doing this I uploaded the more critical of my user files to a cloud service and created a Windows system recovery image to an external SSD connecterd via USB. I also created a system recovery CD. Once I felt all was safe, I pushed the little button and began the factory reset. It worked beautifully, the system came up in Win8.1. However, the files I had uploaded to the cloud didn't fully propagate, and I needed to restore the Win10 image to get them back. After many attempts to get the Win10 upgrade to work, I was finally able to boot Win10 and restore from the system image from the SSD. I found the files and more securely saved them for later access. Now, I needed to perform one more factory reset to bring the system back to Win8.1. But, the operations to do so resulted in the system rebooting back to the Win8.1 installation. It was not able to start the factory reset. Some reading on the internet indicates that if the HD partitions are written to by software other than the Lenovo OneKey tools that any attempt to use the factory paritions to do a reset would fail with the symptoms I was seeing. Using the Win10 disk management tool, I can see that there are 6 paritions on my HD. They are called "Reco... Read more

I have a Acer Win 7 laptop and when I bought it nearly a year ago I set up a homegroup on it. Let's call it Homegroup1. I was negligent and did not record the homegroup password, or, if I did, I don't remember where. I had some issues with the laptop and sent it in for warranty work, where they replaced the hard drive and required a factory reset. When I did the factory reset, I set up a 2nd homegroup as prompted. Call this Homegroup2. My husband joined Homegroup2 on his laptop and has the password there. And all went swimmingly until it became obvious the laptop repair didn't actually fix the problem and I had to send it back in AGAIN. It returned with the same hard drive and settings, but I no longer seem to be able to access or detect Homegroup2. I am, however, detecting Homegroup1, which has an unknown-to-me password and is basically being run by a nonexistent PC (since the computer running it got reset and now has a new name and identity). I tried to enter Homegroup2 Password and Windows rejects it as the wrong password.

I would like to delete ALL these homegroups and try again because this is ridiculous. But I can't get the "original" PC (the one I had to reset) to leave the homegroup and therefore delete it, because apparently to delete the homegroup all computers have to leave it. Is there some way to do this? Because it seems like I'm in a catch-22 devised by evil geniuses.

Also I am unable to "detect" the printer on the network a... Read more

So I recently installed linux on my Surface Pro, but decided to go back to Windows 8 since wifi doesn't work properly yet. I thought, restoring shouldn't be a big deal, just insert the recovery USB you made and factory reset it. Boy, was I wrong. Any time I try a factory reset, it fails around 97%-99%. Windows won't even start booting. I kept trying it until I decided to try installing Ubuntu on it then trying to reset it again, hoping that would fix something. Well, it helped a little. The reset still fails at the same point, but now instead of not booting, it says "Recovery: Your PC needs to be repaired." At first it was because an EFI file was missing, so I booted into the recovery drive again and tried an auto-recovery. It fixed the EFI issue, but it's still at the same screen with \Windows\System32\config\system missing. Can anyone help me get my Surface Pro working again? Thanks in advance.

A:Surface Pro Factory Reset Issues

Welp, I tried to reset it a few more times, but now the "Recovery: Your PC needs to be repaired" screen doesn't even show up. It just goes straight to the UEFI firmware menu. I'm thinking about replacing it under warranty, because I have a yellow spot on my screen in the bottom right corner anyways from the adhesive not being applied right.

Hello, I am trying to attempt a factory reset on a Windows XP Professional Dell Latitude D600. Unfortunately, the computer was previously owned by another company and has a login which I do not know the username/password to. The laptop does NOT have a CD drive and I am using a USB drive to attempt to fix the laptop. If the factory reset does not work, I will be trying to install Ubuntu. I do not have a Windows disk to repair/reset the computer.

On startup (without any other bootup USB drives), it would allow me to access the login screen but I would not be able to get through as I do not know the password/username. I have already tried using Ophcrack (no users would show when loaded), Offline NT Password & Registry Editor (no Windows installation was found), and Trinity Rescue Kit (no Windows installation was found). I have also tried to install Ubuntu with no success. I have tried to use Crtl + F11 / F11 to access a "System Restore" which did not work during startup. (Dell does not have this feature on some of its older laptops, not sure.)

Key Information:
- Windows XP Professional
- Dell Latitude D600
- Unknown password/username
- Password recovery software failed to work
- Failed to install Ubuntu, other programs failed to see hard drive as valid Windows installation (despite loading up as Windows normally)
- Factory reset option unable to be reached from boot menu

I will try to respond to any requests or questions as soon as I can.

Hello! I'm having some major problems with my laptop and I was hoping for some troubleshooting assistance. A short history, first. You can skip down to the bold if you don't think you need any context.

A few weeks ago I started getting regular BSoD (not the one I'm reporting now) on my Acer laptop, as well as errors when attempting to write to the drive, followed by the dreaded 'click of doom'. I knew I was dealing with a failing hard drive so I immediately purchased a new one and backed up data manually (I also keep a regular backup via Acronis).

The new hard drive arrived, I hooked it in and attempted to restore the full Acronis backup. No good, backup corrupt. Of course I don't have another one, that's way too smart for me. Fine, I think - I'll use Acronis' drive clone to copy everything over directly, since the failing hard drive still has some spins left. That didn't work either, as Acronis gets totally jacked up when it has to talk to bad sectors.

At this point I switched to Clonezilla, which 'worked' but did what I found out over another eight hours of troubleshooting was nearly irreparable damage to the MBR or file structure on the fresh drive. The only thing I could do with the new drive at this point was run Acer's factory reset from the recovery partition, which somehow arrived intact on the new drive.

So I did that, and miraculously it worked. I began transferring files back over from my manual backup, and reinstalling programs, starting with Steam and... Read more

Hi all -I know I am talking about a very old machine but I am hoping there is someone out there that would be willing and able to provide helpful  advice - some background -  in my dire need I purchased a 'refurb' Lenovo Thinkpad T400 from who now turns out to be an unreputable seller - I was silly enough not to worry about recovery disks or even a 30 day warranty - now I am paying dearly for my negligence.  This machine has had issues from day one that I thought I could work my way thru reading forums, Lenovo site etc. but nothing has worked.  My first challenge was trying to just get the right-click on touchpad to produce context menu - I searched and searched and reluctantly loaded 3rd party softwares to no avail.  I gave up on that only to discovered that when I loaded any antimalware program my cursor would not open that program nor would it open any other program on the machine. So I uninstalled the antimalware. So I can't really run to see if I have a virus.  To make a long story short right now NONE of the function keys work nor the THINKVANTAGE.  When I reboot and attempt to go to safe mode, bios utility I get nothing except opening up windows where sometimes the cursor will open a program or not and the trying to open programs from the start menu or the task bar is hit or miss same happens in the start menu and trying to open a browser.  I am running on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and would like to go back to factory settings, but ag... I reset my computer to factory defaults on my computer, because it was acting buggy, and I was afraid something horrible was going on.

I'm not a computer genius, heck.. I can't even say I'm close to it.

But I knew that the reset would help me get my computer back to the way I had it when I got it in February, and I can start from there once more.

Now.. with that being said.
Every time I log on now to the computer, it acts as if I'm hitting F10 still, and giving me three options.. The Factory Reset, the Total Reset (which is meant to be used when installing a new verision of Windows), and then "Q" which makes me exit.

After the reset, everything seemed to straighten itself out, which is the bonus for me. I know now that if I do something horrible to this computer, it'll fix itself. Other than for that.. I'm at a loss.

Now the question is, what do I do to get rid of this screen?
I'm running on Windows XP SP2.
Much help would be appreciated.

Product came with Windows 8.1 (not sure if 32 or 64 bit).  Am attempting recovery for a friend who is not technically capable.  Using HP Factory Recovery to do a full factory reset using the 5 DVD set created upon initial setup of the machine.  Have since upgraded to Windows 10, but that upgrade can be done again upon a full reset.  Am at the Factory Image Recovery Preparation page and have the Reformatting and Copying Files lines checked.  Progress goes to 12% with 18 minutes remaining and process freezes (multiple attempts and always freezes at 12%). After quite a long wait, an error message appears stating that the Destination Drive is not Connected.  Attempted to use an extrenal DVD drive as suggested in a tech forum, but this did not work as the system failed to read from the external drive. Is there a solution to this problem that does not require the disassembly of the machine to take the hard drive external as suggested in another tech forum?  Or is there a clean DVD image set that HP can provide that will not cause this problem.

Hi, The machine originally shipped with Windows 8.1 64bit ( Home ). If you wish to order a replacement set of Recovery Media for Windows 8.1, you can do so starting on the link below. http://support.hp.com/us-en/mediaorder/hp-15-g000-notebook-pc-series/6545564/model/6761879/softwareitem/819421-001/step1 An alternative option, if you're intending to upgrade the notebook to Windows 10 again, would just be to perform a clean installation of 10 - as the machine has been previously upgraded to 10, a hardware profile ( Digital Entitlement ) will have been recorded by the activation servers. As long as the previous installation of Windows 10 had activated Ok after the upgrade from 8.1, you can just create your own installation media and perform a clean installation as detailed in the guide on the following link.  Note: At the activation screen, select 'I don't have a Product key' - Windows will activate automatically once the installation has completed. http://www.howtogeek.com/224342/how-to-clean-install-windows-10/ Regards, DP-K

Unfortunately, i cant delete any of those files. I want to factory reset but i cant because i dont have the CD. However i have a Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate CD Key. Any suggestions on how i can factory reset or remove the BSOD problems? Thanks in Advance.

A:HELP i cant factory reset.

By 'factory reset' I assume you mean format and re-install from scratch.

I suggest you purchase a Genuine Windows 7 CD to go with your Genuine Windows 7 CD Key. Beyond that I am unable to help as this forum does not support cracked/illegal software, while you may have a valid CD key you are still using a cracked version of the operating system.

I attempted to perform a factory reset on my Compaq Presario CQ56. The system got stuck on 15% for 6 hours. I shut the system down and turned it back on. All that appeared was this message. "AN OPERATING SYSTEM WASN'T FOUND. TRY DISCONNECTING ANY DRIVES THAT DON'T COINTAIN AN OPERATING SYSTEM. PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL TO RESTART." OTHER THAN THAT I CAN ONLY ACCESS F1 SYSTEM INFORMATION. F2 SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS. F9 BOOT DEVICE OPTIONS. F10 BIOS SETUP. F11 SYSTEM RECOVERY. I INITIALLY HAD WINDOWS 7 OPERATING SYSTEM

A:Factory Reset

How did you start the factory reset ?

If you tap F11 just after switching on do you get a menu ?

I am new to this forum and this is my first post... In light of recent events my computer has a ton of malware and spyware for the second time now... The first time I was able to go in and just go to control panel and factory reset it by clicking the option... now it no longer exists and It says I need a point to go back to... but I just want it clean and wiped, I went back to before I got the virus and it was still there after I restored it to that point so it was unsuccessful... How do I go about doing this with a complete system restore without using a point, I do NOT have an original disk with my OS because it came pre-installed with Home Premium... Any help would be appreciated!

A:I could use some help with a factory reset...

Welcome to the Forum.
A restore point probably would not help because it is probably infected also.
We need some information to start off with.
What infections were found?
What programs did you run to remove the infections?
What anti virus programs do you use (Active)?
---------------------
Could you do this to give us some more information.

I'm having issues with a MSI CR 600 with windows 7, I saved all my photos and files that I wanted to keep. I then proceeded to do a factory reset and the counter is still counting at just over 600 minutes. I don't have a boot disk for it, I'm just wondering if it normally takes this long or longer? Any help would be appreciated.

I was factory resetting my PC because I downloaded some stuff that probably gave me malware because adds we're popping up from nowhere all over my desktop. Then all of a sudden, half way through the reset, it stopped. I tried continuing on my PC or I just restarted it I don't fully remember. But when my PC was on, It wouldn't pass the Acer start splash. Now it won't restarting and still won't pass the splash... Does anyone know who I can fix this?

I did an F8 to do a factory reset. There is no Factory Reset Option available.
No OS disk provided to me by Dell.
My warranty has expired.
Dell said they can do the factory reset and no longer provides disks, if I bought a one year warranty for $250.
Is there any way to do this using MS Dos?
I see my system showing there is a recovery section.
Thanks.

Hi everyone. I have had an Hp G60t-200 laptop for about 5 years and I want to do a factory reset. I have way too much stuff on it and would like to just start out with a clean slate again.

There is a problem. It orgionally came with windows vista pre-installed without the OS disks. I got the Windows 7 upgrade disks when windows 7 came out. I do not have the full version of Windows 7 OS nor do I have the Vista disks, which I don't think would be much help anyway.

My version of Windows is Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit Service Pack 1. I do have all the partitions in the recovery drive, but I'm not sure if they can help. Also I never made a system image at the time, because I was like 10. I do have a system recovery disk, but so far they have been no help. I do not want to keep any of the files and I have backed up all the important files, pictures, videos, etc...

Please help. None of the forums I have gone to had a solution. Thanks.

A:Need help with factory reset.

You can download the ISO of windows 7 OS - bit version you have and burn to a disc. Then do a clean install with that. Making sure to use current Product Key. If you can't find it, use Belarc to show you.
