Wireless connection/router settings/google chrome not working

Q: Wireless connection/router settings/google chrome not working

Recently I had a malware infection on my pc.I installed/ran malwarebytes in safe mode which fixed my immediate issue (recurring pup up windows/dialog boxes etc.)I believe that either by coincidence or via some new security settings, I cannot access my router settings (via pressing 192.168.2.1)I can surf the web with firefox and such with no problems, however google chrome wont pull up webpages (Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.)I also as stated before cannot access my wireless function of my network or my router settings in ANY browser. Also strangely my router has 4 hub ports and a 5th "modem" labeled ehternet port. When I plug my computer in directly to my modem internet works (on firefox) and also when I plug my modem into one of the 4 ports (not labeled modem) and then plug my computer's cable into another of the 4 ports. When I plug the modem into the "modem" port and then the computer into another port, my network has no internet access. I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This problem started right after I deleted a virus that infected my computer through a torrent I just downloaded.

Here is what I did:
I immediately closed all programs and ran SuperAntiSpyware and deleted the viruses.
I restarted my computer as directed by the SuperAntiSpyware program.
After the restart, I rescanned with both Malwarebyte's Anti Malware and SuperAntiSpyware.

Seeing as the results came out clean, I opened Skype and I tried to run my computer game, "League of Legends." Here is where it started getting weird. My Skype is working perfectly and I am talking to people as I type this but my League of Legends, Google Chrome, and Internet Explorer all don't work.

Google Chrome had this error: Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error.

I resetted my proxies and deleted my cookies. I also rescanned using the same programs. Still nothing.

Please Help and Thanks.

A:Google Chrome and IE don't work but Fire Fox does. Internet Connection is also working.

If you recently had a malware infection, then your lan proxy server settings could be mixed up:

-for internet explorer, go to tools, Internet options; Connections tab; LAN Settings; and make sure that the "Automatically Detect Settings" box is checked and everything else is not.

-for Google Chrome press the tools button (the wrench in the top right corner) and scroll down to "Options"; go to the Under the Hood tab and scroll down and click "Change Proxy Settings"; click on LAN settings in the bottom right corner; and make sure that the only box checked is the "Automatically Detect Settings" one

Also, your winsocket settings may be mixed up.
Click start and type "cmd" in the search bar.
Right click on cmd and select "Run as Administrator"
If a message box pops up, click "Continue" or enter the correct administrative password (probably the one you use to login).
After cmd opens, enter "netsh winsock reset" and press enter. then reboot.
hopefully one of these solutions helps!

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and it automatically changed my default browser on Google Chrome to Bing. The main problem is that when I go to change the settings it says that the browser is set to Google. When I first open it, it is on my Google apps but if I search something in the address bar, it changes to Bing. Also on the homepage, my account is not logged in and my account is not i the corner with the menu bar. This is bad because my life runs on Google Drive. HELP

I just switched from the loaded with bugs Firefox to Chrome and it's nice having a browser that doesn't crash every 30 seconds like FireFox does, but some things bug me:

1. I just lost a ton of work because I accidentally clicked the X on a Window with many tabs opened and unlike FireFox it doesn't ask to confirm when closing a multiple tabbed window, is there a setting to confirm closing a multi-tab window?

2. New tabs open to a useless page, is there a way to have new tabs open to my homepage?

There was something else but I forgot for now, anyway it's mostly issue #1 that's very dangerous as I'm going to keep accidentally losing work if there's no exit confirmation.

Thanks

A:Any settings to fix this in Google Chrome?

To answer #1 , after exiting re-open and look at the bottom of the display page there should be a Recently Changed and if you closed multiple tabs at once, it should say (#) tabs closed. Just click that link and it should open up the work.

I have an HP mini with Windows xp. I can't get them back. Also my taskbar icons are jumbled and in grouped in two different places. They are not in a line and to get to them I have to cursor down below the screen to bring them up. Ok, so I have been using this method forever and its really annoying me. Since google chrome is my browser of choice, I will also look for wallpapers on that browser when I want a new one. Unfortunately when I find one in chrome there isn't a "Set Background/Wallpaper" option when I right click on the image, so I find myself going to open IE and pasting the link just to switch my wallpaper and it's annoying.

Is there a way to set wallpaper using google chrome?

A:[SOLVED] Google Chrome: Wallpaper settings?

Open Chrome and go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/wallpaper

Click the 'Add To Chrome' button for the 'Set image as wallpaper (Windows)' extension.

If it doesn't work (I got an error when trying to load the page), see here for further instructions from the programmer: https://plus.google.com/116805285176...ts/SvKySb4u7S7

Hi All,

I am currently testing Google chrome and the group policies in work and there are a few bits that i have not been able to set / lock down which i need to and m not sure if it can be done or not.

The bits left that i need are

Omnibox search needs to be fixed to Google and not able to be changed

Privacy settings need to be set and not able to be changed

The "Users" settings ideally need to be disabled so they can not create other users.

This is for use in a school so everything has to be restricted and secure. all the other policies are working great. I have downloaded the templates that Google provide so have probably missed the options i need for the above settings.

Any pointers will be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi,I was recently infected with the Windows Repair bug and fixed (maybe its still there) it via one of the posts on the sites. So I'm thinking I might have had a couple of other infections that were dormant for a while or Malwarebytes or Symantec never noticed. After fixing that, I noticed Google Chrome stopped working. When I started googling in Firefox and IE i noticed the page would redirect. And then an the "Internet Explorer Script Error" with the URL pointing to apparent spam urls "http;//celebrity-gossip.net/ashley-tisdale..." as an example. So I updated and ran Malwarebytes AM, Symantec & Microsoft Defender to see what they would. Symantec found an bloodhound virus in an archived drive. And i cleaned whatever Malwarebytes found, forgot now since its been a 4 days.I've tried the TDDSkiller.exe and that wouldnt launch. I tried renaming it too, but nothing.I found another thread and tried cleaning with SuperAntiSpyware and Hitman.I don't remember the correct order I've ran these, but followed according to the threads, including safed mode, internet off, etc...Anyways, any help is appreciated. here is the log:.DDS (Ver_11-03-05.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Mikael at 21:35:05.37 on Thu 04/07/2011Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_24Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.2047.902 [GMT -7:00].AV: Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition *Enabled/Updated* {FB06448E-52B8-493A-90F3-E43226D3305C}.===========... All of a sudden Chrome and GMail seem to have changed their viewing resolution, giving me a much larger look to a page and it is sorta fuzzy. Also, when I open Chrome or Gmail, all the icons on the taskbar get much larger as well.

I swear I didn't do anything to it. Maybe something happened with an update on Windows 10?

Whatever happened also affected the icons on my desktop and another browser (Maxthon), but I was able to correct them back to normal. and they open properly.

I've tried to find some way to fix this problem using the settings feature on Chrome, but couldn't find it. I can set the zoom feature and that seems to help reduce the image and the fuzziness, but it still isn't right.

Thanks for your help. You guys are the best.

Cheers,

Hi! I am a heavy google search user who frequently uses google to: define ___, calculate equations etc.

But recently my google search results is changed to:

The top bar still appears perfectly normal when I am not in the search result page:

If it is related, bing has problem as well - it goes black screen:

The characteristics are:
One page itself:
- Words appear bigger
- It seems like I've log out but I am actually still logged in
- Google tips and tricks such as define, tilt etc all are not working
- Clicking "more" and "search tools" refresh the page and does nothing.
Others:
- In other places such as email, youtube, the functionality remains completely normal and unaffected
- I do not think the problem is related to the external internet settings as other devices are able to access these functions/websites without any problem.
- I have no problem accessing any other webpages.

Solutions tried and still not working:
- Completely reset google chrome's setting
- Reinstalling google chrome

I too have the exact same problem. i have tried hard for a month+ on 100s of sites with no avail. this probably is some super smart form of malware/virus which changes your IE's lan proxy settings to "127.0.0.1:8080.proxy.pac", this seems to affect chome and IE while firefox looks ok. the only "visible" difference is with the google main page as you described you'll also notice that at the bottom of the page, the number of page results are limited to 10 and no more, you just cant see more results than that. I couldnt find any any solid fix to this (not even complete reformat) The only temporary solution(till next reboot) seems to be to go to internet options in IE - connections tab - deselect that proxy setting and select automatically detect settings though i personally use hola better internet extension which seems to fix the problem till its kept on. I want this dreaded issue to get some attention so that am actual solution is found :/

Recently I purchased a new wireless N router, and have moved the older wireless G router downstairs, where I hope to be able bridge a connection between the two. Google results, ironically enough, have suggested Googling instructions on setting such a thing up.

Connected to this computer (which is upstairs) is the new one, a Belkin Wireless N model no. F5D8236-4 Version 1. Downstairs the the old Linksys Wireless G model no. WRT54GS Version 6. I have a friend who works a lot with networking, who is skeptical of the idea, but Googling it has returned hope that it is possible. The main dispute is how.

Here's the setup: This computer is wired to the Belkin router, which is wired into the modem and is also currently hosting the house's wireless network. The Linksys is downstairs wired only to my Xbox 360. My attempts at even trying to find where to configure these routers have proved pathetic, so I've been driven here.

Could this work, and will it work with these two routers? If so, how do I go about it?

So, i recently upgraded from Internet Explorer to Google Chrome after a batch of virus problems that i FINALLY got removed from my computer and at the suggestion of many other people.

It worked fine for a week or two, then i noticed randomly it would decide that a website/page i was on either had too many cookies to load i'd get an "oh snap" this page isn't working because of "blah" error, (it had a little file folder with a angry face on it). usually closing the browser then opening it back up would fix the problem. Several times i'd have to go delete all the temp files/cookies etc for it to work right again.

Well tonight it started doing something even more weird, it wouldn't load anything.
Every site i tried to type up there in the http:// bar it would just forever be "searching" for the link then half of the time it would just say sorry "the page can not be displayed"

I tried going to google (my home page) typing in the site for instance "tech guys" and search, it would find a page full of websites, but when i clicked on the link (to any of the options) it would either a: pretend it was looking and just refresh the exact same search results page i was on, or be go into a forever loading process which usually resulted in it saying "the page can not be displayed." I used my phone to look up why this might be happening and people mentioned "disabling" the HTTP of which i had no id... Read more

hey,

Today i have a new problem with my adsl. The wireless was working at full 'advertised' speed last night, then today i noticed the wireless connection symbol in the task bar had changed from 54mbs to only 2 mbs, and a speedtest showed that it was a tenth of the speed it used to be.

Because i just installed my modem yesterday, i thought maybe this was just the isp limiting my connection until i register the modem or something. However, when i connect an ethernet cable between the modem and my computer, the connection works at full advertised speed. Does this rule out the possibility that my isp is limiting my signal, and suggest that the problem is with my wireless settings? Thanks for any help. The modem is a speedtouch 780.

Starting a new thread for a previous issue, because the problems in the title of my original thread are no longer ongoing - but I'll copy/paste my original post here as well, just for the sake of completeness:

Trying to help a young friend 'fix' her laptop. She knows it's old, but it's all she has, so I'd like to do the best I can. It's a second-hand computer for her, and I don't think she really knows what some of the programs are. She had installed a bunch of toolbars, which I've removed with Revo Uninstaller whenever I could find entries for them, and some trial programs that were supposed to speed up the computer. I have made a backup of her data, but as far as she's concerned, the computer can be wiped clean - there's nothing installed that she can't reinstall again if she needs to. I would be a very happy camper if she had an installation disc (Vista 64-bit, home premium), but she doesn't, so turning to you is my best option.

Hi,

Hoping someone can help.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows XP with a wireless connection to a broadband router.

Several weeks ago my laptop started dropping the internet connection randomly (I'm alos unabel to access email when this happens).

My wireless network icon in my toolbar shows the connection as 'Excellent' but for some reason both Internet and Email is not available. The only way to fix the problem has been to restart my laptop which is very frustrating.

I've noticed that this also happens randomly when I'm at home (using different wireless broadband modem) so I think the issue is my laptop not the 2 x routers/modems.

I'm running NOD32 for security as well (but have been for 4 years now with no problems till now).

(Sorry, I just edited this because I realized the title said Wireless Router, it's actually a gateway. Can't fix it.)

I have a Netgear CGD24G Wireless Gateway and a Gateway MA8 laptop with after-market Windows 7 (Vista got a virus, went ahead and upgraded.)

Now, when I download 100 MB files on my Xbox 360 (Which is wired to the modem) it will be downloaded in a couple minutes, or less. The other computers in my house (There are plenty, and even more that come and go.) get a blazing internet connection, and most of them are wireless. Now this computer, which had an extremely quick connection as well all of a sudden dropped off, while the rest of the computers remain fast.

I've gone to Speedtest.net before and after this occurred and my speed before was around 12 mb/s, and one time around 4 AM was even upward of 25 mb/s, all of these tests were performed multiple times on different server locations.

I JUST did the speedtest, and it came back with .4 mb/s, and the UL speed was 2.0. I honestly can't remember what I averaged with it prior to the problem, but it was definitely higher as well.

This started happening a little less than a week ago, and I've downloaded/changed nothing major with the computer, and have mainly used it for light browsing, and an occasional download.

Also, this is mainly just a hobby fix. I have a long enough cable to wire the computer straight to the gateway, so I really don't want to buy new hardware or anything of t... Read more

I have a Presario M2000 with Windows XP. I have been using a Linksys WRT54G wireless router for three years with no problems. Recently a relative, unable to find the Encryption Key, "reset" the router. It still works fine but it is now an unsecured connection.

I tried to secure the connection by running the Linksys installation CD four times. I called Linksys and was informed that my service contract, which I did not know I had, had expired. If I paid them $39.99 they would walk me through a new installation that I could make secure.

I tried to check out their website, linsysbycisco.com, but it seems not to exist!

I had no idea that I would not be able to change the security settings of the router after a certain amount of time! Is there anything I can do, short of paying them $39.99, to make the wireless router connection secure?

(I am a new member and posted this question twice as I titiled my first inquiry with my user name...sorry!!!! ....wont do it again!)

A:Solved: Reset wireless router now can't secure the wireless connection!

That is a pretty common Linksys router and you should just be able to download the router manual from Linksys's website and go into the Web Interface of the router to setup the Wireless encryption again.

You might need to check the settings of the ADSL modem, perhaps it has a Mac filtering option enabled which prevents another computer from connecting to it without first adding the Mac address in a list of authorized devices on the modem.

Also in the WiFi router's web interface, can you see the status of the Ethernet port ?

This is a busy day for me with computers. Another friend has called to tell me that his pc which connects through a high speed outlet and a wireless router is, upon booting, picking up all kinds of email activity through the wireless router. He tells me that the machine just starts sending emails right upon booting, or actually that his symantec software tells him of the email sending time and again upon booting, like hundreds he says. He thinks that there is a way to fix this by altering the encryption settings, but I don't know to much about this. Any help would be aprreciated.

This sounds more like a virus if the machine is sending emails he has not written. I would go to the security forum here on TSG and choose an online virus scan and do that first. You may also want to ask a moderator to move your post to security and you will get some answers from the experts who hang out there.

Hey all,

I have set up a wireless network between 2 PCís (WinXP and Win98SE) to share an ADSL connection through a router with built-in modem and firewall. Both machines can pick up the signal and connect to the Internet. I havenít got all the security settings in place yet so I want to be able to disconnect my modem/router from the Internet when not in use.

On my XP machine I disconnected from the wireless network but after rebooting, the computer couldnít find any wireless networks in range (despite the router being right next to it). The other machine (W98SE) was still connected so I used the web configurator to reboot the router. I reinstalled the network card drivers on XP and it then found the wireless network again.

So what I want to know is Ė can I disconnect the router from the Internet as you can do through a USB ADSL modem without losing all my settings? Also, is the firewall on my router (Draytrek 2600g) good enough so that I donít have to install a software firewall on both machines? Thanks for your help.

If you are using a Windows based device, probably the most simple way to secure your network is with a free program developed by Linksys called LELA.

Download it for free by clicking here and follow the prompts to install it;

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/10972467

LELA will basically help you setup your network, secure it by setting up a passkey and allow you to find and monitor any device that tries to access your router which you do not recognize so you can take action. It is probably the most simple solution for you if your not sure how to navigate properly through the router settings using 192.168.1.1.

You can see an overview of how it works here;

Hello All

Personal preliminaries: non-tech, microsoft office, webservices.

After moving to a new country, we purchased a wireless internet connection (the problem started there - we could have gone for a wired solution). It comes out with a PCMCIA card and a software to run it. It connects to my laptop which has a PCMCIA slot. After purchasing a PCMCIA slot adopter for the desktop PC, it can be inserted to my desktop PC also to connect to the internet.

We have a wireless router (3Com) that we used before to connect our wired broadband connection. In our previous posting, we used to connect all our laptops, PC, and Mac computer, and the printer to the home network.

Here, though the PCMCIA card connects to laptop and desktop individually, we could not create a home network. The connection doesn't seem to go through the LAN configurations. The LAN wired connections between the laptop and PC show each other but cannot share the internet connection. The new PCMCIA solution won't run on the Mac-Mini because neither the software nor the hardware is compatible. Each time we shift the PCMCIA card to either the laptop or desktop PC to surf. We shift files through USB to print via the desktop PC to which the printer is connected. You know what a pain it is.

Switching to wired connection plan is not possible currently because of the annual contract we have signed (fine prints!) has a penalizing clause with a couple of hundred dollar penalty.

a little obscure;

I assume you have something like

Code:
modem---wifi.router
and two systems which flip-flop the PCMCIA adapter to get Internet access
(which means only one at a time can be online). Apparently you want TWO
PCMCIA cards and the ability to have both systems online and accessing each other.

q1: Can you connect the WiFi PCMCIA to the router and get online at all.
Usually we need a wired connection to the router to reconfig the
SSID, Channel, and encryption keys. Reconfiguring can not be done with the
WiFi connection.

I was wondering if it is possible to run a Cat 5 cable from the back of the router straight to my computer, there is 1 connection available on the router, and If this is possible I want to make sure it won't interfere with him getting on the internet and doing whatever he does while I'm on-line. I restored the factory settings of the router...i still cannot access the settings, the network is unsecured,as i cannot set a password and this drives me crazy.Tried google-ing all about it,still nothing...no matter what internal IP am i trying to use for this,my browsers still cannot display anything.I disabled Comodo Firewall,un-ticked all the checkboxes from LAN-Internet Options...(i must say that i have another Belkin Wireless G Router Model F5D7230-4,for which these steps worked just fine and i accessed its web interface imediately by typing 192.168.2.1 in my browser).I already tried cmd and then "ipconfig"...and then tried with the IP,nothing.I tried with all 3 of my browsers,360 Chrome,Palemoon and IE 11,the web interface of the router still remain hidden for me.Tried to connect the laptop directly to the router, still nothing...I'm on Windows Ultimate x32 and a Acer 5450G laptop.

I have a wireless G router from Belkin (F5D7230-4 V9000). I've been having some internet issues when restarting my laptop. Would require I reset the router every time in order for me to have net. I think I have found a solution to that problem but to do so requires I log into the web set up for the router. I don't remember the password and have attempted several times to reset it to factory settings using the reset button on the back of the device. I've been told that the power light will blink and then go back to steady when reset has been done but I can't even get it to blink. I'm not sure if something is wrong with the button and if so is there any other way to go in and reset the settings so I can stop walking through the house every time I need to get online? It would also be nice to change my WEP key because there are people that "borrowed" connection that I no longer want to have access to it but that also requires logging into the web interface.

Default login IP is 192.168.2.1
Open internet explorer, type that in the address bar and hit enter.
The router ships with no default login password,so you should
be able to login leaving the password box empty, after a reset.

Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm very computer-dumb...
My internet was not working last night or this afternoon, so I called Comcast to find out if the problem was on my end or theirs. They did some troubleshooting with me by phone, and I realized that when I disconnected by Belkin wireless router and plugged the modem directly into my laptop via the ethernet cable, the internet worked; when I hooked the wireless router back up, the internet went out again. Comcast gave me the number for Belkin support; they told me that the problem was probably settings in Windows (I have Vista) that had gotten messed up, and that they could fix the settings remotely for $40.

I really don't have $40 to spend right now, and I would really like to fix my router (or the settings causing it not to work right). Does anyone have any advice on how to do that, or on something else I could try to get my router working again?

Thanks!

I was having trouble with my wireless connection dropping and I kept having to unplug the router (Belkin Wireless G Router) and plug it back in. So I searched online for some solutions and decided to play around with my router settings.

Firstly, to outline the problem, I'm using Vista and I'm on Virgin Broadband. In 'Network Connections' it used to pick up Belkin54g and connect no problem. Now, it picks up 'Unnamed Network'. I try to connect and it says 'Connecting is taking longer than usual' or 'Connection unsuccessful'. Then I see another 'Unnamed Network' appear in addition to the first one which is also apparently my network.

Here are the things I changed on the recommendation of some forum post I read:

- Channel changed from 11 to 3 (I already changed it from default to 11 as I read this was likely a clearer channel)
- Changed WPA passkey to a much securer one with 21 characters
- Turned SSI broadcast to 'off' so nobody else can attach to it without a sniffer
- I added a MAC address filter, entering the WAN MAC address on the back of my router

To be honest, I should have left the MAC address filters because I'm not familiar with them, so maybe this is the problem? My question is, if I can only connect to the internet through a cable and not my router, and assuming my router settings are the problem, how can I change my settings back? Or might there be another problem?

Any advice welcome,

Hello. I'm trying to get my DSi online and the help from Nintendo instructs me to "If the router is not listed on our pages, or has no suggested basic rate and transmission rate changes, log into the router, and check likely areas for the basic rate and transmission rate. (e.g., "Wireless Settings," "Advanced Wireless Settings," "Connection Rates") Change the basic rate to "1-2." Change the transmission rate to "2." (Make the change even if only one of those options is available). Test the connection."

But after going on the router page (192.168 etc.) there is no option to change neither the basic or transmission rates.

I have a Belkin N1 Router (Model no. F5D8231-4 Version 5000uk)

Any help?

Thanks,
James

Try changing it to 802.11g only or perhaps even 802.11b only and see if that helps.

Any idea why it does that? it usually happens when I first try to enter a website, it gives me this message in the lower corner of the browser and it only enters the site after 10~ seconds or so. The site then loads for the next several hours(if entered continously) and then it 'forgets' the site and does so again.

It also happens when using IE(except it doesn't display the message due to the browser's UI, it simply takes several seconds before loading said site).

This started happening after I format my pc.

Hi, I am running Windows 8, and I have WEBROOT as an anti-Virus program. I usually use Google Chrome for all my needs, but for the last 4 weeks or so every single time I log on I have to reload because the page either does not load fully, or little squares show up in the middle of the screen. I have Yahoo as my default and 8 times out of 10, when I first sign on, I have to reload the page, and then every website after that the same thing happens. When I use IE10, this doesn't happen, and when I do use IE my WebRoot doesn't show-up in the upper right hand corner of the page as being active like it does on GC. I have done everything except restore to a previous version, which I truly hope I don't have to do. I've tried adjusting my WebRoot Firewalls but that doesn't seem to do anything, I have cleared all history, cache, everything! And still nothing works. Can someone please help me with this issue? Thank you very much.
