Thinkpad Yoga S1 touchpad and trackpoint completely unresponsive and backlit keyboard doesn't work.

Q: Thinkpad Yoga S1 touchpad and trackpoint completely unresponsive and backlit keyboard doesn't work.

I was having responsiveness issues with the trackpad for a while, then, i open my laptop one day and it's completely unresponsive, as well has the backlit keyboard not working (the hotkey still pops up that it's "lighting up" the keyboard, but no actual lights) and the trackpoint being completely unresponsive too. I've tried:- Restarting computer- Using Lenovo's various "fixing" softwares- Looking for a keyboard firmware shortcut for enabling/disabling trackpad, (doesn't exist on this computer)- Re installing drivers (Ultranav driver refuses to install manually, "driver installation failed")- Booting on a non microsoft OS (Booted on a linux Mint installation and it still doesn't work)- Booting into BIOS and looking for "enable/disable trackpad option", That option does not exist for me.- Opening up computer and checking the physical connection, All plugged in fine. When i open the device manager in windows there is no entry for the mouse whatsoever. The touch screen and the pen both work fine. I think it all points towards a hardware issue, i can pick up another trackpad on ebay for pretty cheap, but obviously i'd like to make sure that it would actually solve the issues. The major confusion for me is that why would faulty trackpad hardware stop the backlit keyboard from lighting up? How are the two linked? Any ideas appreciated, Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Thinkpad Yoga S1 touchpad and trackpoint completely unresponsive and backlit keyboard doesn't work.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

After using the ThinkPad Yoga 260 for about two weeks, both the trackpoint and touchpad are now unresponsive. I've tried updating the drivers, rolling back the drivers and uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest one. None of it works. I managed to get it working once with a BIOS update but as soon as I put it in sleep mode, both became unresponsive again. Under Mouse Porperties the TouchPad option is grayed out and the TrackPoint option is sometimes grayed out and sometimes not. Regardless, it is completely unresponsive when enabled and disabled.

Hello community I have this old  thinkpad, which i am very fond of. However, recently the touchpad and trackpoint are acting up.Both right-buttons have stopped working. If i right click on the desktop, nothing happens - until i left-click... then the context-menu keeps popping up until i click on something else. Eventually both left buttons also stop working. I then have to press ctrl alt del and move the mouse over the on-screen-buttons initially they do not respond. after a while they become active again. Then the left button works for a little while until it starts over again... have tried updating drivers, removing the touchpad and trackpoint,  reinstalling windows 10 and flashing newest BIOS without any improvement. External mouse works flawlessly,,, Suggestions are most appreciated :-) Thanks, Kasper, Denmark

I tried to move touchpad, track point and mouse, moreover, typing keyboard, nothing happens. but when I turn it off, into sleepying mode, and turn on. Then it works. Is there any solution to this issue?

My Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 keyboard has not been working. It does not work at all, even when logging in, and I have to enter my credentials either via touchscreen or via external keyboard plugged in by USB. I've checked to ensure my driver's are up to date, and I've run the diagnostic software on Lenovo's online support website, which confirms my drivers are up to date and it claims there are no hardware problems with my keyboard. My computer appears to be recognizing the keyboard on the device manager as well. This had been giving me troubles on and off for years, but I don't remember how I used to fix it (usually a reboot would solve the issue, although sometimes it would take multiple). Any help would be much appreciated. I'd really like to avoid a factory reset, as I don't have all the software easily available to re-install.

Hello, I have a ThinkPad Yoga S1. The keyboard sometimes becomes unresponsive, while the external keyboard still works fine. The keyboard revives after going to sleep mode. I have had this issue since the beginning (2 month ago). The fact that it still works fine with the external keyboard incriminates the driver. But all drivers are up to date. (I made all the updates I could find.) And in the device manager, the status reads  This device is working properly . Anyone else having the same issue, ... and its solution? Thanks,JC

Hi Jc-createlli,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with keyboard not working when system is on sleep mode on your ThinkPad Yoga S1.

Go to device manager and under keyboard adapter uninstall all the adapter and restart the system and check.

Run ThinkVantage system update utility and update all the drivers and application from that.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

Hey everyone, I've upgraded my ThinkPad Yoga S1 (20CD) to Windows 10. I was up to build 1607 before I started encountering issues with the onboard keyboard and touchpad losing power once the laptop gets past the BIOS load screen. Once into Windows, the fn key seems to still function, but nothing after that. Here's what I've done so far for troubleshooting:Verified drivers are current from Lenovo System Updater and support website (all drivers and BIOS are current).Checked the manufacturer's website for newer drivers for the keyboard and mouse.Brought Windows 10 up to current version 1809.Clean boot for Windows.Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.Ran hardware troublshooting tools for keyboard and mouse.Removed the screw near the audio jack as I had read on some forums that the pressue was messing with the sensor near there.Checked the ribbon cables on the motherboard to verify they are seated correctly.Disabled sensor services (this seemed to work for a bit on Windows 1709).Tried running start up repair.Ran sfc/scannow. I'm running out of ideas, other than to go back to Windows 8, but I'd really rather not. Any suggestions/items to try that I'm missing?

As the title says, my trackpoint, keyboard backlight and touchpad have stopped working. The problem happened a few weeks after I updated from windows 8.1 to windows 10. I have tried updating ultranav drivers, resetting windows 10 (which was a bit of a pain given that I will now have to reinstall all my software) and then reverting to windows 8.1 after none of the above worked. Fortunately my touchscreen and mouse support is still ok, but I can't work in low light conditions without my keyboard light. Can anyone help? I see that some Yoga 12 users report similar problems after a fuse fails. Does anyone know if this occurs on the S1 Yoga?

I bought a used W530 with 24 gigs ram, i7 cpu.  I've installed all the latest drivers on lenovo's support.  Everything seems to work great except the touchpad (touchpad did the same thing before I updated anything).  When sliding my finger across sometimes it just stops and the cursor won't move again until I firmly tap twice, almost like the cursor is frozen in place and the taps wake it up.  Other times the cursor will jump to the other side of the screen when scrolling.  Sometimes it clicks with the slightest touch, and other times I have to firmly tap. I've read most of the issues on this forum but they don't sound like this problem.  This feels like a flakey touchpad.  I see on ebay you can get the touchpad sticker/cover, the entire palmrest with ribbon cables, or the touchpad sensor board.  If I can't fix the issue with software, is the problem most likely the palmrest piece or the sensor board?  I'm assuming the sensor board is what the palmrest plugs into somewhere by the motherboard, but I'm not sure as I haven't torn into it yet and the maintenance manual doesn't show that sensor board. I'm going to attempt disabling the trackpoint in the driver as I just found that suggestion on the forum and see if that fixes the touchpad.  If that solves the problem, is there a hardware fix for the trackpoint or is that just getting a replacement keyboard?  I doubt that will be the issue since the trackpoint and all... Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

Hello, The left button on my Synaptics Touchpad doesn't work when I'm pressing a key on the keyboard. Initially, I thought it was a PalmCheck problem, but that feature was already disabled. The right click works fine and so does the touchpad itself. The only problem is the left button. I tried reinstalling an updated driver, but that didn't fix the problem. I tried the generic Synaptics driver and both the HP Windows 8 and 8.1 versions. They all worked fine for all touchpad functions except for the left button which still doesn't work when I'm pressing a keyboard key. I tried using a wireless mouse and the left click worked fine so the problem is only with the touchpad.

I have a ThinkPad Yoga 14, which has a keyboard backlight that can be turned on and off by pressing Fn+Space. Recently I've found that if I turn it off, it sometimes stays on. In this state it will flicker when the computer is tapped or bumped, or just moved around, and when placed at certain angles it will stay off. If I turn it on, it stays on consistently ? it's only when it's set to off that it doesn't work right. It seems like there must be a loose connection in there or something. Does this sound like something that can be easily fixed?

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Got a nasty surprise today - unlike the other major manufacturers, who offer one year free tech support, Lenovo does not. $179 for a contract or $89 to cover a single incident. Thanks, guys. :-/ Here's my problem. G780, bought last October. Upgraded from Win7 Home Premium to Win8 Pro.A few days ago, the built-in keyboard stopped working. It works in the BIOS, but when you boot into Windows, Windows doesn't recognize it. There is a PS/2 keyboard driver and a HID Keyboard Device that show up in the Win8 Device Manager. I'm assuming those are the drivers for the built-in keyboard. If I plug in a USB keyboard, it shows up in the Device Manager as an additional HID Keyboard Device. Through trial and error, I discovered that the keyboard still works fine when the Elan touchpad driver is not installed. The problem with THAT: I can't disable the touchpad unless the driver is installed, and if the touchpad isn't disabled, it'll screw me up because I accidentally brush my hand up against the touchpad while typing. I've also noticed that sometimes, the touchpad icon in the system tray shows up with a CAUTION icon overlaid on top of it (you know, the little yellow triangle with the exclamation point). I can't figure out why, and I can't figure out what changed on my computer that caused the keyboard to stop working properly. I've tried uninstalling the Elan touchpad driver, downloading the latest driver from the G780 support web page, and reinstalling it. No... Read more

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Are you also able to type your password on the login screen but after that the keyboard gets disabled? If this is the case, check this article as it's similar to the keyboard issue.

My touchpad and trackpoint disables after short usage. Max working time is about an hour, typically much less. Sometimes the keyboard has some delay but usually it works fine. The touchscreen works always. Occastinally the pointers come back for a while. So far I have tried:- Updated everything possible from Lenovo support page- Updated BIOS- Removed Synaptics driver 19.3.4.202. It reinstalled automatically.- Uninstalled every software I could- Disabled startup programs- Compared processes, memory and CPU from task manager when workin and during the issue- Reinstalled Windows- Checked that a bluetooth USB mouse works fine- There is no difference if running on battery or with a cord- Disabled either the touchpad or the trackpoint Seems to me like a driver issue. One anomaly in the drivers. The installed driver 19.3.4.202 date says 16.1.2018 but the support page gives the date 8.2.2018 for the same version.

My touchpad and trackpoint disables after short usage. Max working time is about an hour, typically much less. Sometimes the keyboard has some delay but usually it works fine.
