Change from multiple to single monitor setup

Q: Change from multiple to single monitor setup

Hi guys,

I haven't posted in a while, but I have a problem that is really beginning to frustrate me!

I was recently running a setup with dual monitors. This allowed me to move toolbars and menus out of the way to maximise working area when 3D modelling. Unfortunately, I've had to temporarily rever back to a single monitor.

The problem is, when I load the application and open the toolbars, they open off the screen, on the missing second monitor. I'm sure there is a quick and easy way of fixing this problem, but I can't find what it is for the life of me! I'd really appreciate it if somebody could help out.

Thanks very much.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This one has me stumped, hoping someone can lend a hand.
(The rig in question is up to date in my system specs)

I currently run a triple monitor setup, all the monitors were purchased at the same time, and are the following model:
Asus VS247H-P 23.6-Inch LED Monitor

The three monitors are all connected to: XFX DD Radeon HD 695X (Cross-fired with an identical OEM/Model/GPU) All three are connected to a single card (which was tested out of cross-fire beforehand, and each card was tested separately)
The monitors are arranged as shown below:
1-DVI ========2-Display port to DVI (active adapter)======3-DVI
With monitor one being the far left, monitor two the center display, and monitor three the far right display.

The best way to describe the issue: There seems to be a single blue pixel on display 2 that stays in the same place, but this pixel does not show up when the color displayed is solid white, solid black, or solid red.
To rule out the usual suspects:
-All cables have been checked with new replacements (on two different rigs)
-Both cards have been tested and work properly (on two different rigs)
-The cards are NOT overclocked
-The display that shows the pixel has been tested as well (the pixel does not appear on my test rig)
-Disabling eyefinity does not resolve the issue
-Removing the second card does not resolve the issue
My question: What am I seeing? A stuck pixel? Artifacting?
Could the active adapter be causing the issue?
If it turns out to be a... Read more

Is it possible to have 2 computers (or more) having multiple display on a single monitor? (not KVM, if you know what I mean?)

A:Multiple display on a single monitor?

Most certainly not without some very special hardware. What would be the point anyway? If you split a monitor in half, the resolution would be so low that it would be unusable with modern user interfaces.

Hi everybody!

We have a company organisation chart in a document by itself, but it appears in other documents. Is there a way to link/insert/reference the main document into other documents so changes made in one will automatically update within all?

I know you can insert a document by dragging into into another document, however when you update the original it does not seem linked like how I'd need it.

I have just rebuilt my PC and decided to make the jump from Windows XP to Windows 8. The jump has not been smooth, but it looks like I have ironed out my biggest problem (incorrect installation due to not creating a system partition therefore WIN8 = no DVD, no boot; rookie error).

Now I am stuck with an issue that is a real pain - windows detects my only screen as more than one. Sometimes it thinks I have two, more often it thinks I have 3 or 4. Installing the current nVidia drivers did not help.

What I have at the moment is 2 generic non-PnP monitors and 2 generic PnP monitors detected, according to device manager. nVidia control panel calls them Dell SX2210, VGA display, (i can't recall the 3rd one, I'm on my laptop now), and TV. Windows display setup calls two of the SX2210, and the other two are either generic non-PnP or PnP monitors. In nVidia control panel it looks as though I have a clone setup (2 screens enabled) with the Dell SX2210 and the VGA display. In windows display setup it looks as though I have a clone setup (2 screens enabled) with Dell SX2210 and generic monitor.

I have repeatedly unchecked the secondary monitors in both nVidia control panel and windows display setup, leaving me with what should be a single monitor arrangement and 3 disabled monitors. This works until I restart my computer, which then reverts back to what it was before. This is OK as a workaround most of the time, but sometimes when I boot up the computer it detects the wrong s... Hi there!

What I want to do: "...extend my desktop on a second monitor, but, my second monitor is compounded by 2 HDMI TVs and a VGA LCD stage monitor both used as Duplicate setup in Windows 7".

How I have done this (and it works!):

-I have 4 diplay devices (2 HDMI TVs that are connected using a splitter and two monitors both on VGA);
-I also have two "video cards" (GPU): one Amd radeon hd 6570 (with VGA, DVI, and HDMI ports), and Intel HD onboard (aprox. 1GB with VGA output port).
-I have connected the TVs with a HDMI 1x2 splitter on amd radeon's HDMI port, and one of my VGA monitors (this one acts as a STAGE MONITOR for the singer / artist lyrics).
-The integrated Intel HD card has my "Control" monitor attached that I use as my primary monitor (the one that shows me the Desktop and the lyrics control application).

Software aspect of the problem: In Windows 7, I use my Intel HD video card as my primary display, then I can extend on a second monitor the desktop! (The second monitor is my VGA Stage monitor). The Third display that appears in the setup is the HDMI splitter, this one is a Duplicate of my stage monitor. I use: 1680x1050 resolution for my primary display, and 1024x768 for the second monitor... (I know, this resolution is too small for my HDMI TV's... Windows recommends me a 1900 x ... fullHD resolution, but my STAGE MONITOR does not support that much, so I need to use a small resolution).

Hello Everyone,

I am in desperate need of help.

Just started new business and wanted to setup 3 additional monitors to my current laptop. Bought 3 monitors and plugged in and to my surprise only two working. Did some research and found that my laptop only has the ability to set up 2 additional monitors and not 3.

Went to local computer shop and they advised to get a video card and that should help.

Before that I tried all the below option but nothing worked

1. HDMI to USB
2. VGA to USB
3. DVI to USB

What I haven't tried is the external docking station as that is bit expensive.

My laptop is Acer Aspire F - 15 F5 -572G - 77KY
Intel Core i7 with turbo boost
NVIDIA GeForce 940M with 4 GB Dedicated VRAM
16GB DDR3 l Memory

If my only option is Video card can you please suggest which one to go for and if that can be plugged into usb or something.

If there is any other option please let me know.

Hi,

I am trying to set up my Gateway DX4300-19 Desktop PC for dual monitors. The problem I am having is that the second monitor is not accepting the signal and or not getting the signal. I am not very tech savvy so I may be completely wrong with this so here it goes:

My video card is a ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated.

So this is how I'm trying to set it up and if I'm completely wrong please tell me what to do.

On the back panel of my desktop there is a VGA output and a HDMI output. I have the VGA going to my desktop Monitor its a gateway.

And Im trying to use the HDMI into my LCD TV as it is hung above my desktop anyway.

Am I doing something wrong or will it just not work?

I would like to setup three or four monitors on my computer. I want the screens to have individual properties but also be connected in a panoramic fashion. Can I add more video cards or should I get a ready made unit that supports several monitors? If so, where's a good place to look for one?

A:How Do I setup a Multiple Monitor Computer?

The Three main Hardware based ways to Setup Multiple Monitors

1) You can get a USB to VGA Adapter, or USB to DVI Adapter that will allow you to add an extra monitor to your computer via any USB2.0 Port. You can also add multiple extra monitors by using multiple adapters. This is a great option for viewing documents, surfing the web, using Microsoft Office and many other business tasks. This is not a good option for intense graphical situations such as HDTV, Blu-ray, Gaming and 3D / CAD Workstation applications. For those types of scenarios, it is highly recommended that you purchase a high-powered multi-monitor workstation or a Matrox Dual or Triple Head2Go.

Multi-Monitor Adapters

2) You can replace or add an extra video card to your existing computer, depending on how many monitors you wish to support. Although this sounds easy enough, this is a rather complex solution for a beginner, especially when trying to find a compatible graphics card. For this reason, I am going to write an entirely seperate post on that topic and will link to it here, very soon.

Multi-Monitor Video Cards

3) You can buy a pre-manufactured multi-monitor computer. The best place to purchase a multiple monitor computer is at: Multi-Monitors.com.
They carry a multi-monitor computer line called SUPER PC that can support from 2 to 16 monitors.

So if I move a window from my 144 hz monitor to one of my 60 hz monitors it gets laggy. I have also noticed that if I fullscreen a window on my 144 hz monitor that I will get some strange tearing in specific places when I scroll up and down. If I revert the 144 hz monitor down to 60 hz it goes away. It also goes away by switching to windows basic instead of aero? Does anyone else have experience with this? I am pretty sure it is a windows problem.

I looked it up and other people had a similar problem as well. Sadly not many people use monitors beyond 60 hz so I doubt that this will be patched anytime soon.

The firm I'm working for is extensively using flexible workplaces.
Most desks are nicely equipped with an additional monitor for use with my own laptop.
This is very convenient when the additional monitor is setup to "Extend these displays".
However, every time I connect to a new monitor, it is setup by default in the mode "Duplicate these displays".
This wouldn't be such a hassle if it weren't for the rearrangement of my windows and desktop icons due to the different monitor resolutions.

Is there a way to change the default "Display setting" to "Extend these displays"?

Thanks!

Hello,
I am looking to setup a preview panel on a 2nd monitor which will show the contents of each open window on the 1st monitor; similar to how you can preview the window by scrolling over it on the taskbar.

1st monitor is at 1080p and the 2nd closer to 720p. I have my desktop set to extend displays so they display at their native res.

My situation: I have 4 maximized windows for projects I work on, all open and maximized at the same time. It's a bit tedious to switch back and forth between them in certain instances when I'm just looking to see what % a process is at, for instance. As a result I'm looking to use my 2nd monitor as a means of seeing previews of these windows. I would like it divided into a 2x2 grid where each quarter of the screen is a preview of 1 of the 4 windows.

If this is possible, how would I go about doing it? Would I need 3rd party software?

Cheers!

Hello..I am running the Windows XP home ed. OS. I physically connected a Samsung SyncMaster 750S monitor to my Dell Latitude C800 laptop. Upon booting up, the 2nd display monitor displayed an exact duplicate of what is on my laptop screen..

The problem is, I would like to have the laptop as the main monitor, followed by an extension using the Samsung, extending the horizontal field. I went into Help in Win XP and it told me to
click Identify on the Settings tab in Display to have a large number displayed on each monitor.
The Identify button or option does not appear though, so I can't set it up the way I want.

The video card in the laptop is supposed to be able to handle this kind of setup, so I suspect it's an adjustment in XP's control panel...any help would be gratefully appreciated...thanks,

I am writing about printing on an HP 1410 All-In-One. The problem is this.
I have a Word 2003 .doc. I then insert a jpg from a file. I locate it in the document where I want it and size it accordingly. For example: let's say the picture is 2" x 3" on the printed page. The document appears correctly in the program and in print preview.
However, when the page is printed, the jpg is printed twice, one over top of the other. Note: they are not superimposed. However, there are two images (2" x 1.5") and the perspective is "squashed."
Any suggestions if this is a Word 2003 problem, an OS problem (Windows 2000 Pro), or a printer problem?
Thanks for your help.

I purchased a MSI K7T266 Pro2 version 2.0 Socket A Motherboard DDR KT266. I had an AMD 1900 Palomino in another computer, so I know it is fine. So I decided to experiment with Raid 0 on my i7 system to see if it had any impact on video encoding performance using two 500Gb Green Caviar WD HDD's. Specifically, I encoded a 700Mb AVI to DVD. Unfortunately, it took almost 3 times longer over a single HDD setup.

Prior to this, I installed Vista Ultimate (non-Raid mode) on 5 different 500Gb HDD's and a Velociraptor and ran the same test above. Keep in mind that the video file and the software were always on the Main Drive and there were no jumpers on any of them.

Here's A summary:

WD 500Gb Green Caviar 16mb Cache = 13 mins
WD 500Gb Green Caviar 16mb Cache = 36 mins
WD 500Gb Green Caviar 16mb Cache = 13.5 mins
WD VelociRaptor 150Gb 16mb Cache = 12.5 mins
Seagate Barracuda 500Gb 16mb Cache = 39 mins
Seagate Barracuda 500Gb 32mb Cache = 37 mins
Raid0 WD 2 x 500Gb Green Caviar = 34 mins

So is this AAM related causing such dramatic variations?

When I get home tonight, I plan to run a program that's supposed to disable AAM.

I have several sets of folder trees, each with multiple sub-folders, each sub-folder containing multiple files. I would like to merge all of this into a single folder tree, retaining the same sub-folder structure and each sub-folder containing a single set of files, eliminating all of the inevitable duplicates that will arise from the merging.

Doing this manually with Windows Explorer is both tedious and time consuming. I have to select all of the files in one of the sub-folders, then drag the selection to the corresponding sub-folder in the main folder tree, choose 'move and replace' and tick 'do the same for the next x conflicts' and repeat this process for each of the many sub-folders.

Although I did an online search before posting this plea for help, I have only seen utilities that will merge all files in multiple folders into a single folder, I have not seen a utility that will do what I need.

I'm hoping that someone will know of a utility that will save me doing this manually for the next many years!

Thank you in anticipation.

I have several folder trees each containing many sub-folders, say A, B, C, D and so on. The names of the sub-folders are mostly the same between the various folder trees, although there could be an X, Y, Z in one folder tree and not in others, or only 20 sub-folders in one folder tree and 40 in another.

Each sub-folder contains many files, most of which are the same as those in other sub-folders of the same name. For example, folder A in one tree may have 50 files, 40 of which are the same as sub-folder A located in another folder tree.

What I am trying to achieve is a single 'master' folder tree containing all of the sub-folders in each of the existing folder trees, each sub-folder containing all of the files in all of the sub-folders of that name, without any sub-folders or files in each sub-folder duplicated.

I can achieve exactly this by manually moving files to the corresponding sub-folder in the 'master' folder tree, clicking 'move and replace' and ticking 'do this for the next x conflicts', but it is tedious and very time consuming.

Thank you in anticipation that someone will know how to automate this otherwise laborious process.

Hi guys! I've been coming across an issue lately and wanted to get some insight as to what exactly is going on. I'm guessing it's the video card, and all my drivers for it are up to date, but I want to make sure.

The first time this happened was on 5/31/2014(see attached screenshot). It's happened a total of 4 times in the past two weeks and always at the same instance. I have a single monitor plugged into my video card(HD 6850) and also have my TV plugged in as well for when I want to watch movies and such. Typically I am running my PC in dual monitor mode(duplicate screens) even when the TV is off but when I turn to TV on these past 4 times, the screen flashes black as normal, but instead of both screens appearing again in tandem the TV is blank and my pc monitor now has a GSOD. I've attached another screenshot as well from 6/4/2014.

It does not happen every time but as I noted it's done this 4 times. As instructed I've also attached my zip file with all the info from DM Log Collector. Let me know if I'm missing anything else that you need. My pc specs are in my profile as well.

If I do not need a password, how do I set it up without one? If I do that, will it complicate being the administrator? Thanks for any help!

EDIT: I will be using Windows 8, Home edition

A:Setup-single user account with no password?

Hello JoGirl, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes. You would just need to set it up using a "Local" account instead of a "Microsoft" account. Only with a local account can you leave the password fields blank to not have one.

The only issue with it being an administrator account without a password protection would be a security issue of everyone being able to use the account since there is no password they must type before being allowed to.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I have an option to swich PC's. Currently I am running an Intel Celeron 566 overclocked to 850 running rock solid. 320 MB RAM, GeForce 2 GTS. Here's my options... Dual socket 370 mobo with 2 - 933 MHz. Intel P-III's, 256 MB PC-133 SDRAM, No AGP slot - so, probably a Voodoo 5 5500 or something. Or, a Thunderbird 1.33 or 1.4 GHz., 256 MB DDR RAM, GeForce 2 GTS. Each would run Windows 2000. Without money being a factor, which would be a better system? - Faster? Also, take into consideration that the dual mobo can only go up to 1.0 GHz. while the AMD one probably could go to... well, I actually haven't looked at them yet. The AMD system would have an ATA-100 7,200 rpm hard drive. The Intel would have a SCSI 7,200 rpm Ultra 160 hard drive. I might be forgeting something, so just let me know.

Thanks,

Cory

I recently purchased a Dell laptop with Win 7 Home Prem. installed. I've been unable to discover if you can set it up to open files, etc. with a single as opposed to double-click of the mouse. I remember for sure that you could do this with Win XP. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,

I have an ethernet connection running from a router to another room and I wonder if I could use that single connection for multiple devices (computer, game systems, etc). Will a hub work for a connection coming from a router?
Is it possible to have them all up and running simultaneously or does it have to be one device at a time?

Thanks,
~mark

A:Single IP, multiple devices

If it's a standard SOHO router, and not a switch or a modem, you can have up to 253 devices attached. (There are 256 addresses available, but you can't use the first or last address, and one is reserved for the gateway--the router itself.) Note that the 253 addresses includes wireless devices.

hello,

my old system with 2 RAID 0 disks crashed, now i've put a single disk in place. its in the harware compatibility list (hitachi deskstar 7K1000C). its connected on the SATA1 connector on the motherboard. no matter where i connect the disk or DVD drive on the MB, they are never in the first or second IDE slot. might this be because the system still expects the RAID 0 volume here? DVD is connected on SATA3.

when starting up, i get a black screen with blinking cursor, no text input possible. when starting up with the winXP64pro cd, it loads for some minutes and then hits me with the good-old blue screen with an 0x0000000A error, irql_not_less_or_equal.

my best guess is i have to delete the RAID volume first, but in my bios i have no RAID settings, and the RAID-setup screen (ctrl-I) i can' t get to before hitting an error.

its an ASUS P5W64 WS motherboard, American Megatrends v02.58 bios.

thanks in advance for looking in!

mike..

When I am pressing a F4 key (which is used for wireless screen connection mode selection) for one time, it is being pressed for multiple times. I called support team and my laptop is under the warranty even as per the online warranty check tool of HP. But the supprot team is saying your warranty has been ended and they also told me to upgrade the BIOS which I had done already even after that I am facing the same issue. Could anyone please tell me what should I do to solve this problem?

I am working with a spreadsheet for invoicing.

(I put 3 attachments of all the docs I am utilizing)

{ this is what I figured could work. If anyone has an alternate way of doing it, I welcome suggestions}

I am trying to find a solution that takes every person's reservations and puts them across one row, I am doing this for an email merge to pull all of the data into an invoice to email each client.

I have an extremely long column data sheet, so I am not sure what exactly you will need.

I have two worksheets in 1 workbook

The Spreadsheet One is Where I am Pulling Data From:
My Columns Are:
Full name Reservation Type Rooms Date Start time Length Finish time cost cum hrs Mo Pkg Cost IPC_Rooms Date Start time Length Finish time cost cum hrs Mo Pkg Cost
This column has multiple rows of the same name showing every room reservation they have done for the month. There is up to 30 rows of reservations.

All of the other data I am using is pulled from other resources.

The Second Spreadsheet is what I have developed to use for the email-merge its columns are This:

Name Email Outstanding Balance Private Locker Thrive Workshop TP Reward PI Comp Coupon Monthly Pkg Mo Pkg Rate IncChg_Type_1 IncChgDay_1 IncRm_1 IncLngth_1 IncRate_1 IncCost_1 IncChg_Type_2 IncChgDay_2 IncRm_2 IncLngth_2 IncRate_2 IncCost_2 Res Type_1 ResDate_1 ResRm_1 ResStart_1 ResLength_1 ResCumHrs_1 Res Type_2 ResDate_2 ResRm_2 ResStart_2 ResLength_2 ResCumHrs_2 Res Type_3 ResDate_3 ResRm_3 ResStart_3 ResLeng... Hi Folks,
After wasting a bunch of my time, I discovered that Windows easy transfer cannot be used to move user data from a 64 bit computer to a 32 bit computer. Upon discovering this, another question came to mind;

I partitioned a 500GB external USB drive into 4 partitions, and created an image of my 4 computers, each to its own partition. The partitioning was done on a 64 bit machine. Am I able to put a valid image from a 32 bit machine onto one of the partitions created by the 64 bit machine?

All input welcome, and TIA.

Partitions are not Bit specific. You can transfer, read, write from one to another.

I saw a code for a macro but it doesn't work in this case:
"Sub test()
MainSheetRows = Range("B" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
For Each Cell In Range("B1:B" & MainSheetRows)
x = WorksheetFunction.CountIf(Range("New!B:B"), Cell)
If x = 0 Then
y = WorksheetFunction.CountA(Rows(Cell.Row))
Cell.Offset(, -1).Resize(, y).Copy Sheets("New").Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Offset(1)
Else
y = WorksheetFunction.CountA(Rows(Cell.Row)) - 2
z1 = Application.Match(Cell, Range("New!B:B"), 0)
z2 = WorksheetFunction.CountA(Sheets("New").Rows(z1))
Cell.Offset(, 1).Resize(, y).Copy Sheets("New").Cells(z1, z2 + 1)
End If
Next Cell
End Sub"

Hi, i'm new here, already tried to search the site for help but can't find what i'm looking for. I have 3 computers that I have already reinstalled Xp on them. Problem is they wont validate because the disc that I used came with another computer and i'm using the product key off the computers that I was reinstalling XP on, and when I go to validate them the product keys obviously dont work because they are suppose to be used with the OS that they came with. I did not know this until it was to late. So my question is, is there a xp disc, software that I can use to put on my computers and then use the product keys that are on the case to validate. I also just bought a win7 full version, both 32 and 64 bit disc that I have put on my laptop. So could I use the Win7 disc and just buy the product keys if the the xp option doesn't work?

A:Using Single Xp OS disc on multiple machines

Welcome here.

I couldnt get you clear in your previous post.

You installed XP with the same key to 3 machines and when you went to validate, it isnt validating.You would buy a new win XP but still not willing to reinstall the XP. you are looking for a software so that you could just update the key on the already installed xp rather than installing all over again and validate. If this is what you want, give a reply, will let you know the solution.

hey all,

just a quick question whilst I await a HJT diagnoses I read in the CC Cleaner tutorial and was not aware that if you have more than 1 user profile on a single machine you have to run CC CLeaner on each user account????? does this also apply to any/all Anti virus, malware, and spyware removers as well?? thanks

A:Multiple profiles on a single machine

Most, if not all, malware/anti-virus scanners will scan all user profiles. CCleaner is annoying because, yes, it has to be run on every account.

Hello again everyone. I'm trying to make sense of broadband download speeds. I use Speed-o-Meter for a ballcourt data download speed. I have recently transferred to an ISP who say that my line is capable of 2MB broadband bandwidth. OK so far. On an average day a single download will show an average 'speed' of around 750Kbs. I discovered that, if I set up another concurrent download - a large file, say, speeds on the meter treble, quadruple, even go off the 8MB scale.
So, can my highish spec PC with XP Home be tweaked to receive those high speeds on a single download? How does it work? I accept variability during the day due to demand etc.
Any and all information will be welcome.

I have an HP Photosmart printer connected via USB cable. I have noticed it will make printer entries in the control panel (like HP Photosmart 7200c Series then HP Photosmart 7200c series Copy 1). One is listed as connected via USB001 and then the other by LPT1 (parallel). Only one is listed as being online and seems to switch randomly.

Another issue is there seems to be a 333kb file trying to print that is listed as being sent to the printer three months ago. I have to restart the pc and power-cycle the printer every time to get it to work and change the default printer to the one listed as being Online.

OS is Windows 7 64-bit.

Any ideas as to why it would be doing this?

A:multiple entries for a single printer

The LTP1 one is an error, you should delete it. Cancel all print jobs in the queue first.
