Windows Live 9.0 won't sign in

Q: Windows Live 9.0 won't sign in

I've been having this problem for a few weeks now. After a mandatory update from Microsoft, I've downloaded, installed and tried to use Windows Live Messenger 9.0. But it won't let me sign in. I type my username and the correct password, the icon spins, then - nothing. No error messages, just nothing, the same screen.

I've tried un-installing it, re-installing it at least 5 times. I've tried re-installing and using my old version (Windows Live Messenger 8.1), but it won't let me use that, because it forces me to update to 9.0.

I've already checked a thousand times and it's NOT a problem with a firewall or internet connections or anything of that sort. I've already searched the internet for hours for a solution, but couldn't find anything. I'm using XP and Service Pack 2.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am having trouble when going to the c:\documents and settings\User folder it keeps coming up asking for me to sign into Windows Live ID. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before?

I cannot find any fixes for this problem.

A:Sign in with Windows live ID

Forget it I found the solution

Following recent updates to Windows XP, some users experience popups
asking them to enter their Windows Live ID whenever they browse to
their Documents and Settings/username/ folder, whether or not they have
such an ID or use those services. This can be prevented by deleting the
item "My web sites on MSN" from the NetHood subfolder in this folder,
which apparently causes this by trying to access the network.

This worked for me !

I set up a Windows Live account to get email on Windows 7 Home Premium.
I used my email account for my Windows Live ID.

Now, when I try to Sign In, it says "The Windows Live ID is incorrect."

What should I do? Should I uninstall Windows Live and start over?
Will it let me use my email address again as my ID?

Thanks, cb

A:Windows Live - Cannot Sign In

So you set up a Hotmail/Windows Live e-mail which you then entered into Windows Live Messenger (MSN)? Your WL ID is probably incorrect. Check for spelling/punctuation errors.

Hi all, just bought a new PC from Arbico in the UK. It is connected to the internet through my netgear router (wired). I have downloaded and installed Windows Live Essentials, but for some reason cannot sign in to WL Messenger. I get the "connecting" display, which eventually times out - usually to the error code 81000306, but not always that one. If I go to www.hotmail.com and use my windows live ID to sign in then I can access my hotmail, if I use the WL Messenger option in Internet Explorer I cn access my mail too, why is it then that I caano connect to Messenger the other way? I quite like having Messenger running in the background, that way when I am doing something else and I get mail, I see it right away. I am running Windows7 64 bit, IE 64 bit and the latest version of WLM. I have tried a couple of options posted be people in threads elsewhere (ie regedit, and deleting 2 key entries) but nothing seems to work. I have checked my windows firewall (and even turned it off briefly) and the firewall does not appear to be the issue. When my old PC is plugged into the same router I have no problems at all getting Messenger to work (using Windows XP), so that suggests to me that my router is not blocking it eitherRun out of ideas, if anone has any more worth trying please let me know!!(PS tried the fix suggested in these forums @ http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/20c89fa2-4fbc-4ed8-8737-c7612f591cbe/ but with no success ... A:Cannot sign in to Windows Live Messenger

Hi,There are a lot of things to cause the problems. You can try the methods below:1.  you can clear your cache file. The specific steps are below:Delete ListCache.datLaunch CMD and navigate to %appdata%\microsoft.CD %appdata%\microsoftDir /s ListCache.dat Decide if you want to delete the cache.Del /s ListCache.dat Restart your MSN Messenger.
2. Check your date and time setting. Is your time correct? In some case, if the time is correct, msn won’t all you to sign in.
3. Change the MSN settings.1. Open the tools and choose options.2. Choose connections and clear all HTTP and SOCKS information in it.3. Click OK.
4 Disable the Auto Tuning Networking feature on Windows 7.
1.Open Command Prompt as administrator.2.Type the following at Command Prompt and then press Enter to disable the Auto Tuning Networking feature.  netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled Try to connect to MSN Messenger. If you still cannot connect, proceed to the next step. However, before proceeding, re-enable the Auto Tuning Networking feature by running the following command at Command Prompt.netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
If you still have some problems, please post here.

I have seen complaints about this elsewhere. I thought to contribute my experience in case it helps. Or in case someone has already explained and will refer me to that. It concerns this error message:

"There was a problem that caused parts of the Windows Live ID Sign in Assistant to be disabled. You might not be able to sign in to Windows Live in some programs that were recently installed. For more information, please go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=144689"

Firstoff: I do not have Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant nor any other Windows Live software. Nor do I have Essentials which I've seen it suggested to reinstall it.

What I have seen: Three months ago, when Microsoft did its monthly update and then tried to Restart, it restarted twice before it finished. Immediately, I got the above message. Now, every month after the regular update, I get the same message. I have also gotten it a few times on other occasions but not often.

Since I do not have this and am having no problems, I just let it ride.

So, is it possible that, three months ago, one of the updates was for Windows Live or Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant and it is simply reacting to the fact that it could not find this?

One more thing: I have seen others complaining that they get the same message and they do have this program. One person said he had to keep reinstalling it and it only worked once each time.

A:Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant

Hmm, no idea if this is relevant but here it goes...

Open IExplorer and Tools-Manage Add-ons, see if you have:

Windows Live ID Sign-in Helper

File: WindowsLiveLogin.dll
Folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live

Disable and see if it helps. Maybe you can trigger it by uninstalling one update and manually checking/installing.

Hello, recently for the past 3 days or so I cannot sign in. I have to keep on trying and trying, then eventually it signs in, but I can make it keep on signing in for hours and nothing happens. It seems as though it tends to sign in, but doesn't show that it signs in and keeps on at the same screen, but if someone tries to message me or anyone who signs on, on my computer, right away, then a message comes up saying "could not start a conversation with _____" or something similar to that. I've also got Error Code 8100030d, but it doesn't always pop up. When I searched up the error code, most results had to do with older versions of WLM or MSN Messenger, and some said that ZoneAlarm is sometimes the problem, but I do not have that on my computer. What I'm wondering is that, I have AVG Anti-Virus Professional 8.0 installed, which I just recently installed since it's the newest version, and I'm just wondering if AVG Anti-Virus Professional 8.0 could be the problem, because I've had AVG Anti-Virus Professional 7.5 installed on my computer for years and never had a problem related between WLM and AVG. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling, even downloading the installer from the website just to make sure I wasn't at a lower build and when I try to install Messenger, it goes through succession and then I still have the exact same problems.

Also when I get that error code it signs in when I click Retry, then it signs bac... Read more

Hello all,
This evening I tried to sign in to my Windows Live messenger account but each time I did, I was kicked off. A pop up window read that I had been signed out because the version of messenger I am using does not allow for me to be signed in at two locations. This started tonight when I tried to use a MSN app. on my IPHONE...I've since removed the app., but I thought I should mention that. Anyways, to fix the problem I first changed my password but the same message popped up and I was then kicked off. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the program, the problem persists. I've scanned for malware/spyware and nothing shows up. At the moment, I have windows live messenger uninstalled, but the lame, ancient version of windows messenger is still on my computer (the problem occurs when I use this version, too). I even made a new account and added my old one on MSN and it shows that my old account is signed on...But the ~person~ isn't talking to anyone, isn't sending out any emails and they haven't even changed my password on me. I've changed my password a billion times and this keeps happening. What's going on I've had my account for FOREVER, and do not wish to get rid of it.

Options>Connections>"Stop Signing In". But if you don't sign in, your contacts and the way they are organized into categories, won't be backed up at the contacts.live.com website. (You can still export your local contacts to back them up but it won't save the categories, just all the contacts in a long list.) You also won't be able to use Photo Email (i.e. using SkyDrive to avoid sending very large attached files).

I tried changing the cookie settings but it doesn't seem to work. also using different browsers but nothing.

I saw a couple of posts about Windows Live Messenger or something. Do i need to install that on my dads computer? (not sure if its on either.. sounds like it should be on both)

Therefore no security on my PC to stop anyone accessing my emails!!

A:Cannot sign out of Windows Live Mail .

It's probably just a Windows Live Mail's setting. It is enabled by default to keep you signed in for convenience. You can turn this off by:
1)Opening Windows Live Mail
2)Click on the Accounts tab
3)Click Properties up at the top
4)Click the Servers tab
5)Uncheck the Remember passwor check box
and your problem is solved!

I installed the whole Live Essentials just to help you, so I hope it worked (and that you haven't uninstalled it yet)!

Heres an odd one for you all.

I'm running Windows Vista Home premium and have had no problems at all. However in the past 2 weeks or so, Windows Live Messenger has developed a signing in problem.

I have Norton 360 installed and the Firewall has allowed Messenger to do what it needs to, but it still won't sign in.

I have even disabled the firewall, but to no avail.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Messenger, still no good. I check the tools settings in Messenger and it shows that it is connected via my Router's wired connection.

Today I dumped Vista, formatted my drive and did a fresh install of Vista, and fresh install of all software, still I get the same sign in troubles.
I enter my user name and then my .net password, and it just says signing in, then after 5mins, sign in failure. My friend tried her ID and .net password, still the same.

Yet I can sign into the MSNetwork and my online 360live account no problem. Any ideas?

Hey, you're problem isn't with compatibility i'm on vista too and Windows Live msngr works fine... A few things to try;

- Using Webmessenger
- Using Pidgin (downloadable alternative, which i think connects to an alternate server to connect)

Who's you're ISP? i used to have problems because of my ISP... do you have any other connection issues (when browsing the internet)?

Well, I am having some issues installing "Windows Live Essentials" update and "Games for Windows Marketplace". I have found that the cause of this is from "Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant", (wllogin_64.msi) which I am unable to install.

Things I have tried:

Removed every live related application with the windows cleanup tool. Tried to install wllogin_64.msi as administrator. Tried to install wllogin_64.msi in safe mode. Restored from an earlier system point. Ran chkdsk. Ran a virus and spyware scan.

For firewall block:

1. To configure Windows Live Messenger through the most common firewalls, visit http://spaces.msn.com/messenger-support and look for steps under "How to enable Windows Live Messenger through a Firewall" on how to enable Windows Live Messenger through the most common firewalls. I had a problem signing in into WLM. Every time I sign in into the current version of Windows Live Messenger, I stay in for a few seconds and then there is an error message after which Windows Live Messenger shuts down. I use XP.
The error message is as follows:

"Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The error details are the following:

AppName: wlcomm.exe
ModName: kernel32.dll
AppVer: 14.0.8098.930
Modver: 5.1.2600.5781
offset: 00009eda

I tried to look up the file kernel32.dll and it seems to be legitimate. Is this a spyware/malware problem or is it something else?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Please help! My windows live messenger is currently having severe problems. Whenever I try to start it, an error icon pops out and says "Windows live messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close". I have tried system restore, uninstall and reinstall, windows live sync and numerous other fixes but they have all failed miserably and my windows live messenger will not work. I suspect this is an old problem, but please help me quickly, thanks.

A:Unable To Sign Into Windows Live Messenger

* The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock and verify that the time and date are set correctly.

* If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the correct case (uppercase or lowercase).

* Change your password at Sign In to something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.

* Even though you disabled your firewall, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).

* Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then click the Delete Files and when that's completed click the Delete Cookies button.

* Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSl 2.0' and Use SSL 3.0 is checked. then click OK.

* Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:

regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK
and do the same for the following:
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

I finally installed the latest upgrade to Windows Live mail. I really hate the change, lack of normal menus and such, but I can get used to that. I'm using it with a pop3 account on my own domains.

The problem I have is that when I Click in Picasa to send a photo with Live Mail, it brings up live mail and tells me to sign into my Windows Live Mail account, and it appears it want to upload the photo to an album. Can I get rid of this request to sign in, I don't want a windows live account.

I just want my photos to attach to the e-mail as it always has. Is this possiable anymore or is it time to switch to a new e-mail client?

Thanks very much;

In order to download Windows Live Essentials, you had to have a Live account but you don't have to use it. When you open WLM don't sign in and set the connection option in WLM to not sign in. However Microsoft has added a feature to WLM called "Photo Email" which uses your Sky Drive as a storage place for your photos while WLM sends only a thumbnail link. Obviously, you need to sign in for that. To avoid signing in, never use Photo Email. Instead just use "attach" or "insert" for photos and decline the offer of "Photo Email".

Hi everyone. I am getting error code 80048820 and extended error code 80048439 every time I try to sign in to Windows Live Messenger. My password is correct. I ran the Troubleshoot utility but to no avail. It shows that there is an error in my hosts file so I had the Troubleshoot utility to clear out the hosts file... it still doesn't connect. I'm at a loss as to what to do. Please help!

It just refuses to sign in.

I keep getting the error message

"We were unable to sign you into Windows Live Messenger, possibly because of a problem with your internet connection. Please try again later.

To let us try and trouble shoot the prolem click the trouble shoot button.

Error Code: 80072745"

when i click troubleshoot i get the little green tick next to IP, Default gatewat, Hosts File, DNS, Proxy Server and Key Ports.

The only ones that dont have anything at all next to them is IE's offline setting and Wireless.

So from what i see there everything is fine, so i have no idea why its not signing in.

Thanks for any help

A:Windows Live Messenger Wont sign in!!

Hi Antony

Is Live Messenger OK now? If not ...

1) Sometimes its just a problem with the servers, not your PC. Check with others & see if they are having the same problem.
2) Of course, make sure that when you click on the "Tools" icon in your Vista IE7 toolbar that "Work Offline" doesn't have a checkmark next to it -- if it does, uncheck it.
3) If you have broadband, reset a) your broadband 'modem', and b) your router. Then reboot Vista, and try your sign-in again.
4) If you have a software firewall active, make sure that Live! Messenger is set to "always allow" (or similiar settings).
5) Virus activity can also cause such errors - so make sure to scan for malware.
6) Make sure your Vista Cryptographic Service is "Started" and is set to "Automatic". You can also try stopping & restarting the service.
7) Some users report that enabling the UPnP service can help.
8) Check in your EventViewer logs to get more details that coincide with the Live Messenger error.

There are other suggested fixes, but since the error is fairly generic & can be due to several different things: it's best to try the simplest cures first.

Hopefully you're OK already, and I've just been practicing my typing.
Best of luck
. . . Gary

A:How to print GBP sign from Windows Live Mail?

What Font are you using? I use Times New Roman in Wordperfect and the Alt + 156 keys to get the GB Pound Symbol and it prints. Also work for Ariel. Both are in my Windows 7 Fonts Folder [Control Panel].

The boxes suggest the Font used in printing is missing or not the same as the screen Font, either on your computer or the recipient's computer. Or it may be in the difference between languages if they are not the same.

A:Windows Live Messenger Sign In Problem

Hello joshhammond,
This is one fix from MS,

To troubleshoot the problem on a Windows Vista-based computer:

1. Click Start, type control timedate.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

2. In the Date and Time Properties dialog box, confirm that the date and time settings on the computer are correct, and then click OK.

Here is another one.

MSN Messenger - ERROR 80048820 FIX

Click Start icon (Start Menu)Type "regsvr32 softpub.dll" (without the quotes)

In what will seem like a split second, literally 1/100ths of a second you should see a new window pop up as per below.

You should now be able to log into MSN.I hope one of these work, good luck and post your results.

Hi all, I recently installed Family Safety on our laptop for the safety of our grandsons. Now when they ask permission to visit a specific site, and I need to allow that site to be visited, the only ID option which comes up is our regular email address not the ID option I entered upon registering for the account. Can anyone advise me on how to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance for any help!

A:Windows Live Family Safety Sign In

Hello rose, a big welcome to you to Sevenforums!

This is the live family saftey website: https://fss.live.com/safety/default.aspx
You will need to enter the same user name and password that you use to log in to hotmail for your email, and it has to be the same one you signed up the live saftey accounts with.

This is what it looks like. You can view the activity of each member you sign up. There are more settings on the left hand side (after you click a family member) that you can change to add more security to your child.

Don't forget the settings you can change in parental controls, including adding children to the list

I logged in today, to receive a message from [email protected]

"Windows Live(TM) Messenger Service Staff says:
Important service announcement: As part of a recent system enhancement, we need you to change your e-mail address to continue signing in to the Windows Live(TM) Messenger Service.

To ensure that your access is not blocked and to learn more, go to http://support.microsoft.com/gp/Messenger/en"

And it asked me to go to the link provided. So I went, and read it. And I want to know WHY I have to change my sign-in. It said nothing about it in the supposedly Frequently Asked Questions.

It doesn't really bother me to change it, I just wanna know why.
Can anyone tell me?
Thanks alot

Hi there,

I'm actually trying to solve a problem my grandfather is having with his windows live hotmail.

He has not made any changes to his computer and for some reason started having trouble signing into windows live hotmail. When he puts in his password he gets this error message: You've tried to sign in too many times with an incorrect e-mail address or password.

He has tried to reset his password but it's not accepting any of his "secret question" answers.

He can't have reset instructions sent to him because the email on file is his hotmail email and he of course can't sign in to that account.

I have sent an email to hotmail support through the HELP website with no response.

If anyone has any suggestion for how we can fix this I would greatly appreciate it.
