Automating Microsoft Exchange Settings on client machines?

Q: Automating Microsoft Exchange Settings on client machines?

Hello,

Not sure if this is possible. Using DHCP or maybe even Group Policy. Can I set Outlook to automatically configure the exhange server settings? I would like not to have to go to 100 client machines to configure this.

Thanks,
Tony

Preferred Solution: Automating Microsoft Exchange Settings on client machines?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a shortcut to the Microsoft Exchange Server properties within Outlook 2003?

Usually have to go through TOOLS - OPTIONS - MAIL SETUP - "View or change existing e-mails accounts" - click "change" on next screen - then click on Next settings - THEN I am on the Microsoft Exchange Server settings....

Any easier way to get to this screen?

thanks !

A:Shortcut To Client Microsoft Exchange Server Properties?

Try going to the Mail applet via the Control Panel.

Start >> Control Panel >> Mail

That should bring up the Mail Setup - MS Exchange Settings applet. From there you have the choices to access the E-mail Accounts, Data Files, and Profiles applets.

Hi,

I'm not sure where to post this as it's not really a network issue due to the computers not being domained.

At the moment I am applying local group policy settings for each computer (many computers) manually on each machine (Taking about 20 minutes per machine due to the MANY settings that need checking).

Is there any way I can cut this time down by saving a set of policy options from one computer and applying that set to multiple other computers (via a usb stick etc?)

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Available here are the sample scripts described in the "Automating Exchange 2000 Management with Windows Script Host" white paper. They are WSH scripts based on Exchange 2000 technologies. These scripts perform automated management tasks in a Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and Exchange 2000 environment. The sample scripts are not supported under any Microsoft standard support program or service. You can, however, report issues and bugs by sending e-mail to [email protected].

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I figured that this is where I am most likely to get a response.

Here is my problem:

My website contains a simple form. When the user submits the form, I would like the information from the form to be automatically entered into a form window of a software client located on my computer.

I can make it so that when the form is submitted, I receive an email with the form information. So maybe the best way to go about this would be to create an automated process which copies the information from the email and pastes it into a form window of the software client – I’m not sure. The problem is I have no idea how I would create this automated process .

Does anyone know what I would have to do/how I would be able to do this or if there is a better solution?

Any help is much appreciated

A:Solved: anyone help with automating a process between web form and software client?

No, I would not do i that way. Any information entered into a web site should be sent to a SQL database, then you can retreive the information from the database from the client software.

Alternatively, you could use the Form on the web page to collect information, and when the user clicks submit, it will create an email with the information required and send it to a specificed email address e.g. you. Then you enter the information from the email into the client software.

Hi,

I access my exchange server mail with Thunderbird, connecting through exchange.mydomain.com - on Win7

I have recently setup exactly the same Thunderbird setup on a second computer (Mac OS x 10.6), however it's not syncing like I would ideally like...

For example, previous two days I was using Thunderbird on PC, and then this morning opened it on my Mac. The inbox processed, and displayed 33 new mail items - all of which were actually items since the last time I updated it on the Mac - so showing heaps as new, when I'd actually read and archived them on my PC.

The exchange server (when accessing thru web) has the mail as 'read' correctly, i.e. when I read through Thunderbird, it's updating exchange to make it as read. So I'm thinking that Thunderbird on the Mac is simply matching it's local inbox with what's on the server, and everything 'different' is new and unread...

Is there anything I can do to make them more synced, and for the second install of thunderbird to know what has already been read --- and also ideally know what has been archived on the thunderbird install on the PC --- so each account is identical all of the time?

Is that possible? I thought that was the goal of exchange, so fingers crossed...

Thanks in advance
Rob

Hi Anyone of an Excel Nature,

I have a question for anyone versed in using excel.

I keep a months records of my hours that I work as apartment manager for the owner on a single excel sheet.

However, the owner wants weekly time sheets and he wants them sent to him now.

I have at least half a years monthly time sheets that he wants in a weekly format.

I would still like to keep my records of my hours in a monthly format so that I can see what I've done at an entire month's glance.

So, my question is does anyone know of a way to automate the excel monthly sheet so that when I enter data into the monthly sheet that it automatically duplicates itself in the weekly sheets?

It is kind of a lot of copy and pasting other wise.

If you don't know maybe you know where there might be an answer?

Thanks.

John

A:Microsoft Excel: Automating Entries Between Sheets?

Yes, but not having used Excel in this way for about 5 years I can't recall the exact details.

It has to do with linking sheets. Here's how I seem to recall doing it:
- go to the new sheet and select a cell and type "=" (without the quotes)
- go to the old sheet and click on the cell that has the data that you want on the new sheet
- go back to the new sheet and you'll see that it has the Sheet number, an !, and the cell reference from the old sheet. (my Excel screwed up the Sheet number so I had to change it manually).
- press Enter and you'll see the sheet's contents reflected there (there may be some difficulty with the cell formatting tho')

Once you've achieved that you can use it to start new calculations.
There's also a way to enter the calculations with the cell reference embedded so that the data from above isn't needed on the sheet (but that'll take some research to do).

Hi,

Current setup is Windows Advanced Server 2003 setup as the Domain Controller with Active Directory, logging into that are up to eight Windows XP machines.

What I am after doing is having all 8 XP clients take their time from the Server (regardless of the user that logs on) rather than running their own times, to ensure they all stay in sync. Can anyone tell me how to do it or if it can even be done?

We have client machines on IE11 that cannot connect to common websites using https (Facebook, Reddit etc.) because they do not have the Trusted Root Certs installed.
Until 2014 Microsoft released updates to Trusted Root Certificates via KB patches.
Since then they have advised customers to rely upon the process of Windows Update connecting to Microsoft servers to process the CTL (Certificate Trust Lists).
Question 1: Are clients sitting behind a proxy server able to download and process these lists? Our client machines clearly show that they are not able to resolve the update servers, so I assume not.
According to this article from 2014 - https://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dn265983.aspx

"The list of trusted root certificates is available as a self-extracting IEXPRESS package in the Microsoft Download Center, the Windows catalog, or by using Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). IEXPRESS packages are released at the same time as the trusted
CTL."
Question 2: Where can I find that/any of those packages?? They are not easy to find, evidently I am searching for the wrong thing via Google/Bing/Windows Update Catalog
If the latter does not/no longer exists, how do we obtain new/replacement Trusted Root Certs, and how should we distribute them around our estate?

Developers who use the official Git client and related software are being urged to install a security update that kills a bug that could allow attackers to hijack end-user computers.
The critical vulnerability affects all Windows- and Mac-based versions of the official Git client and related software that interacts with Git repositories, according to an advisory published Thursday. The bug can be exploited to give remote code execution when the client software accesses booby-trapped Git repositories.
"An attacker can craft a malicious Git tree that will cause Git to overwrite its own .git/config file when cloning or checking out a repository, leading to arbitrary command execution in the client machine," Thursday's advisory warned. "Git clients running on OS X (HFS+) or any version of Microsoft Windows (NTFS, FAT) are exploitable through this vulnerability. Linux clients are not affected if they run in a case-sensitive filesystem."

We have (as in develop and publish) a Java Telnet/TN5250 client that works beautifully on most systems. And so far, we've found nothing in it that could be causing the problem at hand. (And we've driven ourselves nuts trying to find something).

It seems that two particular machines, one being a test box, running Win2k and the latest Java 1.6, the other a customer box, running (I think) XP and the latest Java 1.6, have a problem if this program is talking to a particular AS/400 (the customer's). At some point after the initial connection is established (sometimes in the protocol negotiations, sometimes after the TN5250 session is established, and the user is signed on and trying to do useful work), the machine will go into a mode where it oscillates between seemingly normal responsiveness and total nonresponsiveness (with a frozen mouse pointer), typically spending a few seconds in each state. Eventually, WinDoze becomes responsive again, but can no longer access anything (and I do mean ANYTHING; no Internet, no shared folders on our LAN, NOTHING) through its Ethernet connection.

It's only known to happen on those two machines, and only with a Telnet connection to that particular host.

Our most recent theory was that our Telnet application was getting into some sort of argument with something else running on the machine, and so we tried getting rid of everything known to have a background task on the test box. Now, instead of only crashing TCP, it crashe... Read more

Okay heres the skinny.

We run Exchange 2003 but we only run it internally for a small number of employees. The rest of the employees just use a hosted email solution. ALL of the users have the hosted email that get downloaded into Outlook 2000, XP, and 2003 via POP but a small few (about 75 out of over 400) also have an exchange server account that the downloaded emails from the host then go into their mailbox and are stored on the exchange mail store.

Now that you know whats happening here, let me explain the problem. Essentially the problem is only the 75 people with an exchange account and a mail store are able to get the GAL which contains ALL of the users emails (even the ones that don't have a local mail store). In order to get the users not attached to the Exchange and without a mailbox to get this GAL list we worked on setting up a VBS to export first name last name and email address from AD for us to then send out to update for users to then import this list into their clients.

Well this is a drawn out function that 1) alot of users don't want to use (or don't know how to use it) 2) has a big drawback is each time there is a change to the GAL they have to download a new list and then they have to delete their old contacts out to ensure the ones that are missing from the list disappear from their contacts. 3) This is something we have to run each time someone wants an update.

Is there ANY way to export the GAL into an address book then to "push... Read more

Hi everyone,

I have an issue that just started with the install of Outlook 2003 (part of Office 2003 Pro). We are running Exchange 2000 SP3, most clients are using Outlook XP for their email app.

Problem: Outlook starts normally with a POP3 account in a POP3 Outlook profile. However, I have a work Exchange account which I configured using instructions yesterday. Worked fine. Yet today, Outlook crashes - fails on opening Microsoft Exchange Account. Hangs and then forced exit produces Microsoft error report. On restarting, Outlook says that "outlookaddin.dll" caused a serious error and has been disabled. Disabling it means that Outlook no longer pulls down emails from Exchange. Re-enabling it causes the crash again, Catch-22.

Versions:
Dell XPS M1210 - brand new.
Microsoft XP Professional SP2 (fully patched)
Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 SP2 (fully patched)
McAfee SecurityCenter pre-loaded by Dell.

I configured the Exchange profile yesterday and it worked fine. Changes -- possible cuplrits? -- in the meantime:

1. A large McAfee patch was installed semi-automatically.
2. Attempted to install Treo 650 Palm Hotsync. This did not complete successfully. Hung while hotsyncing to Outlook. Then uninstalled successfully.

What I've tried, but which does not fix the problem:

a. Detect and Repair run within Outlook completes successfully.
b. Disabled and uninstalled McAfee Spamkiller.
c. Remove the Exchange profile through Control Panel > Mail, and create a new one with a different name.

Suggestions very gratefully received!

A:Outlook 2007 (Exchange client) will not save contact email address

Appreciate that you have correlated the problem to Office 2007 SP2. I am having the same problem with an XP Pro PC using Outlook 2007 connected to Exchange 2003 over Http/RPC. There are two accounts: Exchange and one POP. If I take the Exchange connection "off line" it is possible to add the new email address to the contact. THEN, I can send the email via either Exchange or POP. Also, I cannot send an email to an address that is not already in "contacts", or apparently never sent an email to a particular address. So, same work around. Take Exchange offline and then send email via POP account. With Exchange back online, it is now possible to send to the new email address.

I have transferred Excel's Personal.XLs,, Outlook''s Contacts and Address Book and Word's Templates to the Win 8 machine as well as Excel14.xlb. All 'took' except for the xlb. The menu, ribbon and QAT remain as they were installed. I need to get that straightened out as well as transfer all the Win 7 Options for Word, Outlook and Excel.

Can someone tell me how to do this?

Thank you.

hello,

We recently upgraded our servers from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010. One of major issues is the syncing of mail on our Droid phones. Many of use the Touchdown email client. The older Touchdown clients failed and once upgraded to the latest version, it works fine. However the native email client on android OS is not working at all. I have tried unchecking "use a secured connection" and unchecking "verify certificates" Also since we carry many different models of Droids, different OS's don't seem to make a difference either.

Anyone on exchange 2010 ever encounter any issues with Android.

A:Exchange 2010 Upgrade Caused Native Droid Email Client To Fail

I had some issues when we switched over. I was just using the native andriod client as opposed to Touchdown. I would check some of the android forums and just search for outlook. there were several threads on those boards and something i found there ended up correcting my issue. sorry don't have my droid anymore and can't recall the settings.

Hi All,
I am having a weird issue with my Cisco 7200 router. From the router I am able to ping and reach out to the internet but from the client I am able to reach out to the internet but unable to ping I am not sure where is the issue but when I traceroute to it my packets are dropped at my routers interface. All my pings from the client time out. I checked the Access list to make sure ICMP is not blocked.

A:Can ping from router but unable to ping from client machines

I am able to reach out to the internet but unable to ping Click to expand...

ping is not required to have connectivity - - it is only a test & traceroute tool.

From the client, get a command prompt (or in Linux a Terminal) use nslookup google.com
If it returns the IP address of google, then you can ignore the ping problem

Hi!!!

I have Windows Vista Enterpriser 64 bits Edition with 4 GB RAM. I Have
installed Visrtual Server R2 64 bits edition and then I?ve installed the
virtual machines of MOC 6451A- Planning, Deploying and Managing Microsoft
System Center Configuration Manager 2007. When Im trying to start a virtual
machine, i received the error "Not enough memory to start virtual machine".
That?s not true, because I?ve got 2,5 GB free. Anybody can help me?

I can?t specify the memory, because virtual server, for Microsoft Learning
Machines is only the engine. When I?ve finished the installing of the microsoft
virtual machines under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Learning\6451\Drives I can
see the *vmc and *vhd files and I have an executable file with name
"LauncherApplication.exe" inside of C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Learning\6451\Data that launch a Window of Microsoft Learning with a little
windows where I can see the name of the diferent machines with two buttons to
click in "Launch" or click on "Reset". I can reset the machines bacause the
machines are only for academic purposes. This is a characteristic of this

Microsoft Releases New Windows 10 Virtual Machines

Microsoft has released new Windows 10 virtual machines on the Developer Center, providing us with an updated arsenal of tools to code without the need for a license.

Specifically, the new virtual machines, which are available in Hyper-V, Parallels, VirtualBox and VMWare versions, come with an evaluation license for Windows 10 Enterprise Anniversary Update that will expire on May 21 this year,.

The new evaluation pack includes the aforementioned Windows 10 image, as well as Visual Studio 2015 Community Update 3 (Build 14.0.25425.01), Windows developer SDK and tools (Build 14393), Microsoft Azure SDK for .NET (Build 2.9.6), Windows UWP samples (Feb 2017 Update), and Bash on Ubuntu on Windows.

The company is also offering a non-evaluation version of the Windows 10 image, but this requires a license for the operating system, so additional costs would be involved. The pack has approximately 20 GB in size, and completing the download takes some time, and so does installation.

The UWP effort
Microsoft?s pack of virtual machines and developer tools are specifically aimed at those who want to join the universal app platform effort and create apps that can run on all Windows 10 devices. This is actually part of Microsoft?s push to bring more developers to Windows 10, as it wants universal apps to address the lack of apps in the Windows Store and thus tackle more than just PCs at the same time.

Today, we have updated the Microsoft Edge Dev site with major fixes and new features, including Windows 10 virtual machines with Microsoft Edge and a faster, clearer platform roadmap. With these features, we are excited to remove the ?Beta? tag from Microsoft Edge Dev, and will be redirecting modern.ie to our new home.

Test your site in Microsoft Edge with free Windows 10 virtual machines

Windows 10 virtual machines are now available with the latest updates to Microsoft Edge and the underlying web platform. With this release, we have automated the process we use to create the virtual machines, so future updates will be available more quickly as the platform is updated. By popular demand, we?ll also be supporting new formats for VMs, starting with Vagrant boxes (with VirtualBox) and QEMU. You can expect to see these starting in the coming weeks.

We have also updated RemoteIE to use the latest Microsoft EdgeHTML rendering engine inside Internet Explorer, which gives a very similar rendering experience to testing inside Microsoft Edge. RemoteIE continues to leverage Azure RemoteApp to enable cloud-based testing across platforms without the need to download virtual machines. We are also continuing to work on making Microsoft Edge available via Azure RemoteApp and will provide further updates as we make progress.

Bug fixes and improvements

This release includes substantial improvements to accessibility, including improved markup to make the site and tools work better with ass... Read more

Hi there

Great stuff -- I'll see if I can convert one to VMWARE format. I used QEMU years ago -- thought it had "Died the death" -- when VMPLAYER couldn't CREATE VM's but only PLAY them QEMU was a great free tool in being able to create new VM's for VMPLAYER to work with.

Edit -- VMWARE format IS available in the download. !!!!

Anyway I'll post results of messing around with this piece of software if I can get it to work.

And -- Ms have images as well as for Windows - but MAC and LINUX TOO !!!! So Ms does believe that there is life outside Windows.

Cheers

It is unknown at this time why it's affecting some machines and not others but many users are experiencing BSODs with machines becoming unbootable after installing this update.

This workaround, which in effect uninstalls the update, is mostly quoted from here:

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/73cea559-ebbd-4274-96bc-e292b69f2fd1
Boot to the Recovery Console. For instructions on how to do that:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/307654

Once in the repair screen run these commands, pressing Enter after each one:

2. Type this command: CHDIR $NtUninstallKB977165$\spuninst

3. Type this command: BATCH spuninst.txt

4. Type this command: systemroot

Type this command: exit

It might be a good idea to set updates to notify and not download automatically so you can put this one on hold until an official fix comes out. Note you will need this update as it is critical so please don't postpone it indefinitely and be sure to get it once the problem is fixed.

In the meantime, you can get the protection this update was patching without installing the update by running this fix:

A:Microsoft update KB977165 linked to BSOD on some machines

Update:

Here's the latest MS blog indicating that the TDSS (referred to as Alureon) rootkit was indeed the cause of the boot failure after applying this update.

http://blogs.technet.com/msrc/

Anyone who had this boot problem after installing the update and only uninstalled it to get their machines back to a bootable state should be sure to check for this rootkit. I suggest seeking assistance in the Malware Removal & HijackThis Logs forum.

Once the machine is clean you need to redownload the update in question or if you don't want to do that then apply the workaround mentioned in the first post (KB979682).

Hi, I have a mixture of Windows 7 and Windows 10 machines on my work network all Intel. Today they started to install the Microsoft Spectre Patch for Windows 7 KB4056894 and
Windows 10 KB4056892. All the computers the have installed on sart to display that the copy of Windows is not Genuine Windows, I reboot them and then it goes to the Windows Startup repair and t can repair the computer at all. Also the Reset feature in Windows
10 won't even reset. I've had to disable Microsoft Updates via GPO, but even when I did that it still installed! I've had to disable the Microsoft Update Service using GPO also to counteract this. It's turning in to nightmare, does any one have experience
with this as I need to advice so I don't has to go to all machines around my sites and re-image them. All help would be most appreciated.
Thanks
